[Q] Registration issues - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've recently just fired up my AFTV after about 4 months sitting to one side. It looks as though it's been auto-updated to the new version automatically (I never put in place any of the update blocks).
I went to start Netflix, and it says it needs to be updated. I then tried to update and it said that pricing was unavailable and there is no way to install it that I can see from the built-in app store. Assuming this is some type of enhanced geo blocking on Netflix's behalf, I found another user that mentioned deregistering and re-registering the device allows the new Netflix version to download and work. However, once I de-registered, it now won't let me register with my Amazon email address and password. I've confirmed that the credentials are definitely still working fine on Amazon web and 3 different device running Kindle, so I know it's not an account problem.
Has anybody else had issues not being able to re-register their device?

[Q] Can you register to an account with no SIM?

I was hoping to just use this as a mini-kindle for the next month, is there away to register to an Amazon account without a SIM card? It's throwing a server error when I attempt it.
I did tests with the UK and GER release of FireOS 4.6.1, both times I was able to login with my Amazon account and use their services.
I have a netlocked device, never inserted a sim card, flight mode on / off doesn't matter.
I set mine up as well, w/o a sim.

Hmm, I haven't been able to sign in to the amazon account. The browser works but I can't use any of the services.
What's the exact error / message you get when the login fails?
Version of FireOS installed? (hopefully 4.6.1)
Have you made significant changes on the device, that may interfere with account settings?
Did you buy from Amazon directly, if so, try contacting them as well.
As you can see from the responses, it usually isn't a problem to login with an existing account.
If anything else fails to resolve the problem: re-install FireOS, but we can talk about that later...
I have in the US.
My first fire phone came already registered. Well, that one broke, and I got a replacement, but Amazon apparently failed to register the phone to me before they shipped, and I was not able to register, whatever I tried.
If you have to go through the registration process yourself, I suspect that Amazon doesn't have that phone's id or whatever on their server. Talk to the customer's service.

I doubt that.
Every Amazon device comes preconfigured, if you buy it directly from them, that's standard procedure (if they don't miss one ^^).
(It's true that Amazon saves the device info on the account, when you log in, but you can delete them as you like, no questions asked.)
I had multiple devices from other people and used them with different accounts (during customization & testing).
Kindle HDX / FireTV / Fire Phone / FireTV Stick: reset / restore the device, re-install OS, it doesn't matter:
If the OS is working correctly, you can log in with any Amazon account.
you should be able to, when I first got the device It was not set up or attached to my account(since I did not order it myself), and I was able to use it without a sim. I also did a factory reset recently and it didn't pick up my service but I still got in the phone(had to do setup all over again).

Hmm, I don't know exactly what they are, but there are several things that Amazon has to put on their server, and in the case of my replacement phone, they obviously forgot about them when they shipped. I was not able to log onto their services until they fixed the problem. And even after that there still were a few things missing from their server, and I had to call them again and again to have the problems fixed.

Stagefight-Detector-APP from Google Play Store!

Hi all the Happy Fire Phone users.
I thought that all Amazon Fire Phone users would like to know that Zimperium, the company that discovered Stagefright, published a simple app that checks if the device is exposed to any of the several vulnerabilities that make it up.
Simply install it, tap “Begin Analysis,” and the app will show which vulnerability affects your phone.
Unfortunately, the app does nothing else, so it’s up to you to look up what each code means and what you can do about it...
After installing on my two Fire Phones (with Latest FireOS 4.6.3) this "Stagefight-Detector-APP" (from the Google Play Store), fortunately I always get the following message:
Congratulations!...
Your device is not affected by vulnerabilites in Stagefright!!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zimperium.stagefrightdetector
So it could be true that Amazon has totally fixed, this Stagefight problem in their latest FireOS 4.6.3 for the Fire Phone!!
Curiously, none one has mentioned on the "Android Comunity" (Latest Android News, El Android Libre, etc), that Amazon has been the first company that has corrected this annoying problem!!...
But it does not surprise me, Because Apparently all these Android News Sites, Has Always mentioned Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony and other Big Brands, not the Amazon Fire Phone.
I Really do not know if this APP is reliable or not, but at least works Flawlessly with the Fire Phone and also gives us a Fast Diagnosis of the "Stagefight" problem.
Edit: Today Lookout has Released a Stagefright Detector App, that it also works with the Fire Phone, and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout.stagefrightdetector

Can you turn off "auto-retrieve" in the messager settings on Fire OS? I'm on CM11 now, so I can't check.
This article show how to turn off the vulnerability: https://www.avast.com/en-us/faq.php?article=AVKB230. You can still be vulnerable afterwards if you open a malicious text message.
No, you can't switch off auto retrieve with stock sms app. I installed a different sms app because of that.

Luckily the Amazon FTV App is in a different update cycle then the PlayStore's. No problem with playback on my Rooted FTV1 so far. Watching the new NORM MACDONALD Comedy Special to test it out ... :good: (He still got one of the best unique deliveries)
False alarm. Just a coincidence. Still need a new streaming solution with locals and DVR. That's not asking for much.
Mind if I ask how you fixed this error?
Ever since installing the latest pre-rooted on my Fire TV gen 1, netflix just comes back with ui-error-800-3
Everything I found on the net to try and fix it has not worked. It works fine on my non-rooted Fire Stick, just not the Fire TV.
Thanks.

Delete Cache, Data, Uninstall, Reinstall

I just wanted to throw this in there because I had the exact same problems with a brand new device, not rooted - Samsung Galaxy S8+ kept giving me the error "Sorry, we cannot reach the Netflix service. Error (-1001)." I looked and looked for answers and couldn't figure it out, and finally I found VPN apps. I downloaded Turbo VPN from the Play Store and installed it and started it. I then started Netflix and it actually opened. I tried to watch a show via streaming and it said that I had to uninstall my VPN app. I thought "great, now it's over". But it wasn't! I turned off the VPN and restarted Netflix and it actually opened like normal (without any errors!) and now I can watch my shows. I don't know if this was a block by Samsung or AT&T or whatever to make us use their DirectTV Now service, but this was how I fixed the issue.

New 5.2.6.0 update blocks all free app content on my Fire TV

The new 5.2.6.0 update was pushed out to my FireTV on Saturday morning and I've been unable to run YouTube, PBS, NBC, and Amazon Prime programming since then. All my paid apps are running fine so far - Hulu, Netflix, HBO Now - but when I try to load anything from the free apps, I get kicked back a screen or two and nothing loads.
I have one of the original Fire TV boxes as I bought it in April 2014 and it's worked great since I bought it. I was on the phone for over an hour yesterday trying to get some help from their techs but nothing worked including a complete factory reset. Something in this update is blocking access to my free apps programming.
I understand that I'm supposed to be seeing more advertising but that's missing too. I was told at the end of my tech support conversation to buy another box because the warranty has obviously run out, but of course, they stopped selling the boxes several weeks ago and I'm stuck with a box that only works for half of what we used to watch.
Any suggestions for my next step? TIA!

I'm not from the US, but I'm pretty this is sounding like some sort of cache bug.
Try going to each individual app in settings and clearing cache and data; if this doesn't solve it, then I would remove the app and reinstall it.
If this doesn't work, I'd try deregistering your Amazon account in settings with the applications stated removed; then registering again, this may refresh the app store's data.
Lastly, try a factory reset of the Fire TV; this is a last resort.
Ok so i have same issues the main one being allcast i cannot stream to tv from phone or kindle hd the firestick just tells me to install allcast on firestick... i have also factory reset and still the same issues telling me to install the app... tryed on my old firestick not updated to 5.2.6.0 and all app are working fine
Uk user
Um. For those of you with the app store problems, does syncing your Amazon account fix this?
This is if you cannot download applications
Go to: Settings > My Account > Sync Amazon Content
What if you install the app from the browser interface on your laptop.

Try to install it remotely from the Amazon site, and choose to deliver it to the Fire stick you want. If it doesn't try to sync your account.
I doubt the application being installed is at issue, I believe there is some sort of configuration issue for you with the app. I don't use AllCast, so I can't help you there
This application has stopped working since the 21st September on newer released firmwares, the application developer will need to fix the issue with newer firmwares for AllCast.
This could be correlated with the issues others have; I doubt there has been major API changes.
Ok thanks i appreciate the reply regarding allcast app guess i just have to wait for an update and try it again..

I did all of this during my phone conversation with tech support, plus I had removed and reinstalled those apps prior to calling in with my problem. We did the deregistering/reregistering my account and then we did a full factory reset, which also didn't work. Is it possible that I have a corrupt install of this update? And could tech support remove the new version and knock it back to the previous one?
Interesting questions. I've had YouTube freezing after a few minutes, since the update. I'll do a clear cache/data as see if that resolves it. If not a new YT install.
I spoke with tech support last night because I reported this issue to them about 10 days ago and I wanted an update. The guy told me there was a master ticket in the system regarding this issue. It sounds like the new update triggered an hdcp error in certain apps. Like the OP, all my payed apps work but non of my amazon or free apps.

I ended up buying a 2nd generation unit from Best Buy that arrived today and is working just fine. Good luck with yours - I hope they get it fixed for you.

Registering to Amazon is broken

I know lots of people (or probably most) still using Fire Phones probably flashed a newer custom OS to it, but I am still using the last Fire OS which I kind of like. Today, without me doing anything, the system seems to have "broken." The phone became de-registered from my Amazon account, and I learned how much the system was dependent on that registration (that's kind of like registering any Echo or Kindle device, etc). Now all my GUI settings are gone (the way I arrange my > 100 apps into folders) and worse, none of the apps that I got from Amazon's app store work.
And the settings for registering my device do not allow me to register to my existing Amazon account. I get an error message when I try to do it.
The only maybe-unique situation for me is, a few months ago I changed my Amazon password. Maybe for some reason the system needed that and it no longer matched. But a new registration is blocked. So others may not notice any issue if they have been using the same Amazon account including same password, since they first set up the device years ago.
The only fix I can think of is flashing a new OS on it, but in my mind that kind of defeats the purpose of having a Fire Phone. You can have the flashed OS on many devices, but only the Fire Phone can have this weird but kind of nice OS. I mean, making use of the bizarre extra cameras and all. It is a relic of a brief moment in time when Amazon sold its own phone....
This is not my primary phone. I just liked it for reading with the Kindle and other apps, and calling, texting, checking email, twitter (using the Talon app from GP store). Which reminds me, I should mention, only Amazon Store apps are not working. The apps I got from GP and F-Droid are fine.
One thing I'm thinking of doing is disabling the Amazon App Store and installing a side-loaded version that is meant for other androids. Then maybe when I sign into that, my Amazon apps (some of which I paid for....) will work again.
Just curious if anyone else had this issue, and if there is a way to salvage Fire OS on the phone, or if I should flash (and make use of all the hard work of people who worked out how to do that, etc). I'm not tossing this phone. It is very nice hardware that should work perfectly fine for basic things.
