SlingPlayer (Slingbox app) stopped working? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

SlingPlayer stopped working on all three of my FireTVs. Two have very old firmware. One has the newer one rbox released. They are all version 1 fire TVs. Anyone else having problems?

My dad just called and said he has the same issue on two of his Fire TV's. Something going on there for sure

I found this thread on their forums: https://community.slingbox.com/message/150715
If you google "slingplayer fire tv" you will get the link to the app on Amazon, but if you click that link, it says it's invalid. I have the feeling it got pulled from their appstore! I hope this gets fixed, because I NEED that app to work.
EDIT: Here's the response from Slingbox on their twitter site: https://twitter.com/Slingbox/status/746057507462733824

I saw an update from someone in the thread that this is Amazon's fault. It makes sense since the app page is gone from the Amazon website. You can still get to it if you google it and get the app details page.
I think what's causing it to not work is some kind of license verification in the app. I think it's checking to make sure it's valid, but it's failing because it's no longer in the Amazon app store. I tried experimenting with a "patcher" to get it to work, but it still closes right after launch. Anyone have any recommendations to patch the license check? BTW, this is not a paid app. Nobody is stealing it. We can't get it to run on the hardware it's supposed to run on.

Just spoke to Amazon. The tech support team indicated they have officially dropped support for the Slingplayer app. Fortunately I purchased my M1 and Fire TV stick 29 days ago so they are both on their way back to Amazon. Very, very disappointed. Amazon used to be a great company. Now they seem to no longer give a damn about thir customers. Sorry for the bad news. First Boxee, now Amazon. I'm done with Slingbox for good after this.

This is insane. Is there anything similar to a slingbox? There's gotta be some live streaming hardware I could leverage.

New post from Slingbox on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Slingbox/status/747472537190170624
FireTV/Slingplayer: we plan to release an updated, working app for Slingplayer/FireTV tomorrow at the earliest. Thank you for your patience!

Just downloaded 3.0.9 and it works on my older OS Fire TV. Should work for them all.
EDIT: You may need to uninstall 3.0.8 from the Manage Installed Applications screen under settings. The regular uninstall doesn't get rid of the old version sometimes. I think it may be due to me attempting to sideload 3.0.8 after it was pulled from the appstore.

Amazon Instant Video App?

I'm wondering if this will have an app for Amazon Instant Video since it is one of the advertised features. If it does, would it be possible to port it to other Android devices? Right now the only way to watch Amazon Instant Video on an Android device is to spoof a desktop user agent and use flash player. While this method works, it would be a lot easier to have a native app, especially with flash player being discontinued.
APK (ATVAndroidCleint.apk) is Posted:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19409230&postcount=10
Works on unrooted Gingerbread devices and force closes on Honeycomb/ICS when you try to go to a video's page. On rooted devices you'll need to install OTA Rootkeeper then force close and re-open the video app. You can also freeze/defrost it with Titanium Backup.
Option #1 to Log in to Your Amazon Account:
Open the Amazon video app and find a video you want to watch. Tap the orange box to buy the video and log in with your Amazon account. Once logged in the prices in the orange boxes should adjust if you have Prime and you'll be able to watch videos. If you get an "Error Linking Device" proceed to option #2.
Option #2 to Log in to Your Amazon Account:
From a Kindle Fire ROM dump obtain and install MyAccount-unsigned.apk and com.amazon.dcp.apk. The files in this post should work even though its not a complete ROM dump. Now you can associate your Amazon account with your device just like you would a Google, etc account. From Settings, Accounts you should be able to add an Amazon account. Now go back into the Amazon video app and you should already be logged in and able to watch videos.
If you still get a "Your device is no longer configured correctly to play Amazon videos" error try restarting your device after you temp unroot with OTA Rootkeeper. Some devices, usually running CM roms have had issues with the error even after temp unrooting.
My understanding is that it will play instant video, although idk what app will do it.
Soon after mine arrives, I'll update?

Its built into the device.. so I doubt it.

When flash is discontinued, you won't lose your ability to view video. more than likely, they will replace it with HTML5. As long as thy don't go to Silverlight, you should be OK.
Ditto, though about the native app. Why hasn't amazon released this type of app?
Yeah, popped over to see if there was an apk for it to try on other devices. Would definitely want to give it a shot.
There is a native Amazon Video app on the Fire. The apk installed and ran fine on my Nexus S (although the layout was a bit wonky). The problem that I encountered is that there is no way to sign in to your account from the app.

Where is the apk?
Can you post the apk. Myself and others would be interested even if it doesn't work yet. Perhaps there is another app or service needed to get you logged into Amazon similar to porting android market to devices that don't have it. I also read that Amazon is releasing their source if that makes things easier. You'd think they would release Instant Video as an app but it is a selling point of the fire.
The apk is in system/app, and is called "ATVAndroidClient.apk"
here is the ATVAndroidClient.apk......havent tried it yet.
FC's when trying to watch movies, or view help. Must be due to sign in as mentioned previously. May need the accounts and sync apk installed.....
Looks nice though.
fwiw, post-rooting, myself and a couple others are no longer able to instant stream a video...

Sweet, and it works on the Droid 3.
What I did was tapped on an orange $1.99 button to buy an episode of a show. This brought up the Amazon login window and I logged into my Amazon account. Now that I'm logged in, it knows I have Prime Instant Videos for free so it lets me view everything.
There are some messed up parts of the GUI due to it only supporting the Kindle's resolution. I also noticed that once the on screen controls disappear during a video there is no way to get them back. I have to press the back button on my phone to exit back to the app, but luckily the app keeps your place, allowing you to resume.
Overall it is good enough to be usable, I watched a few minutes of Top Gear and Lost on it just fine. Both the Droid 3, Bionic, Razr, etc and the Kindle Fire have TI OMAP 4430, not sure if this has to do with anything.
EDIT:
Doesn't appear to work over 3G. You can browse videos but get the error "Playback over cellular network is currently disabled"

Yeah, I tried it on my Inc 2 and had more success....my first attempt was on honeycomb.
Wasn't able to log in. network error. Will try on wifi....
Definitely looked better on my tablet, so probably ideal for gingerbread tab.

It won't work over 3G for me, it wants wifi. It will be better on a tablet I'm sure, some of the things like the search box, etc feel a little small on a 4" screen, but its still a lot easier than using a browser.
If you got it working on your Incredible 2 then it may not actually be GPU sensitive. Maybe this will end up working on a wide variety of devices. Makes you wonder if Amazon will release a version to the general public.

Yeah, got it working on my A100, but agian...honeycomb. FC's arent unfamiliar. Inc 2, I got as far as the login screen, but got "an error has occured, please try again" on wifi and 3G. Could be an account issue though.
Hopefully someone that knows what they are doing can get it to work properly.
Glad you got it working.
I can install but when try to purchase I get this. I am rooted maybe that why.

That was what I had experienced on the Xoom w/ the Google Market for Movie Rentals.
It let's you rent them and they show up in Videos. But you can't watch them if you're rooted. You have to watch them through a browser.

Apparently this app checks for root and gives this error even on the Kindle if rooted. The solution is to temporarily unroot with an app, details at this link:
http://phandroid.com/2011/11/16/rooting-kindle-fire-breaks-amazon-video-and-how-to-make-it-work/
I installed on my Bionic (currently removed the root while waiting for that update to show up) and it looked ok, a few graphic issues.
I tried to login, but it came back with a message to check my WiFi connection.

NFL Sunday Ticket Tablet App

Can someone please test drive the NFL Sunday Ticket Tablet app for me on FireTV. I have the opportunity to pay to upgrade someones Sunday Ticket to MAX in exchange for their login. However I want to make sure I can use it on FireTV otherwise it is a waste of $100.

Unfortunatly I won't be getting the login unless I pay him to upgrade to Sunday Ticket Max. I am not going to pay for the upgrade if I can't use it so I am kind of stuck.

Worse comes to worse, you use the app on your phone or tablet and cast it / mirror it to the Fire TV or other set top box

So you side load the Droidmote server on the FireTv and run that in the apps, then exit, and it runs in the background? I too would like to get Sunday Ticket on my FireTv.

You and me both. I ended up just buying it. It's not without its shortcomings, but it's actually quite nice. One time the server complained that it wasn't a registered license, and I had to uninstall and reinstall it. But it's been solid since. And for the client I'm using an old phone which disables wifi when it enters standby and the Droidmote software doesn't auto reconnect. I have to manually do so, which is such a drag. I contacted the author and he doesn't appear interested in fixing this, even though it'd be rather trivial to implement that auto reconnect functionality.

I purchased iit and installed it from the Play Store (which I had side loaded). There's a setting to have Droidmote server start in the background which works well. I believe you need root for it

I can confirm that DirecTV Sunday ticket app works fine on the fire TV. Side load it and it works fine The problem is that it is entirely a touchscreen app so the fire TV remote will not work and you cannot watch anything. Droidmote fixes this problem, but requires root. If you don't want to root, just plug in a mouse to the back USB port. I have all the games up now! Good luck.

I side loaded Sunday Ticket to my AFTV, and can login and see the list of games. But nothing happens when I click on "watch game"...
Have you gotten a game to actually work? If so, which version of the Sunday Ticket app are you using?
PS: my iPhone 5S mirrors directly my Apple TV for the games, but it's choppy over wifi. AFTV uses Ethernet.
When I open the app it tells me, "current app version is less than minimum version". Then when I click 'accept' the app just crashes. Anyone else have this problem? I have a valid password but cannot access this . It is the version of the app listed by the original poster.
Thanks!

I had the same problem at first but then I was able to install it on my tablet and snag the apk out of /data/app folder. Both the phone version and the tablet version install fine on the firetv and even the game info updates however I can't get it steam a live game so far. I am trying to do it via the browser now but so far I know Chrome won't work.
would there be any way for you to post that apk you snagged out of your /data/app folder? Is that against forum rules?
I'm sorry I just don't have another android device to get it from.

Thanks a lot for posting that! It worked just fine - no errors like last time! I did notice it's one point version back from the version that's currently in the play store.
Anyway, I started it up, highlights, stats, work fine. However, I tried to stream a live game and got this error:
"Due to NFL rules, local broadcast or non-sellout games are not available to stream on your device."
It was towards the end of the 4pm games... so maybe I'll try again tonight and see if i can get it to work.
Any progress for you? Did you get the same error?

I saw that message as well on the Dallas game. I was mostly trying to get the redzone channel working. I gave up for this week no luck with either app nor any browser. Luckily the games I wanted to watch were in my local market this week. The tablet app works fine on my hp touchpad running ICS.

This version looks like the tablet version, WAY nicer than the phone app I tried before on the AFTV
The Sunday Ticket games are over for the week, but I was able to watch some replay highlights, and did see errors about games not being a part of the Sunday ticket package. The highlights played in full screen, and with Ethernet had better quality than Airplay from the iPhone.
When I tried to click the Red Zone channel it showed a loading circle and said "activating" and never loaded. I'm not sure if it's just because all the Sunday Ticket games ended, but neither red zone or fantasy some currently load.
The big question mark will be next week... Will we be able to get a live game to work? fingers crossed.
Also - did anyone else notice the "record" button...? How could that possibly be useful? Lol

Is NETFLIX Being Blocked on Rooted Devices

Read here:

I seem to have lost it but maybe just a glitch. getting error:
Sorry we cannot reach the Netflix service. Please try to restart the Netflix application (-114)
A big ouch if true. Looking for alternative streamers anyway. Recommendations?

Luckily the Amazon FTV App is in a different update cycle then the PlayStore's. No problem with playback on my Rooted FTV1 so far. Watching the new NORM MACDONALD Comedy Special to test it out ... :good: (He still got one of the best unique deliveries)
False alarm. Just a coincidence. Still need a new streaming solution with locals and DVR. That's not asking for much.
Mind if I ask how you fixed this error?
Ever since installing the latest pre-rooted on my Fire TV gen 1, netflix just comes back with ui-error-800-3
Everything I found on the net to try and fix it has not worked. It works fine on my non-rooted Fire Stick, just not the Fire TV.
Thanks.

Delete Cache, Data, Uninstall, Reinstall

I just wanted to throw this in there because I had the exact same problems with a brand new device, not rooted - Samsung Galaxy S8+ kept giving me the error "Sorry, we cannot reach the Netflix service. Error (-1001)." I looked and looked for answers and couldn't figure it out, and finally I found VPN apps. I downloaded Turbo VPN from the Play Store and installed it and started it. I then started Netflix and it actually opened. I tried to watch a show via streaming and it said that I had to uninstall my VPN app. I thought "great, now it's over". But it wasn't! I turned off the VPN and restarted Netflix and it actually opened like normal (without any errors!) and now I can watch my shows. I don't know if this was a block by Samsung or AT&T or whatever to make us use their DirectTV Now service, but this was how I fixed the issue.

New 5.2.6.0 update blocks all free app content on my Fire TV

The new 5.2.6.0 update was pushed out to my FireTV on Saturday morning and I've been unable to run YouTube, PBS, NBC, and Amazon Prime programming since then. All my paid apps are running fine so far - Hulu, Netflix, HBO Now - but when I try to load anything from the free apps, I get kicked back a screen or two and nothing loads.
I have one of the original Fire TV boxes as I bought it in April 2014 and it's worked great since I bought it. I was on the phone for over an hour yesterday trying to get some help from their techs but nothing worked including a complete factory reset. Something in this update is blocking access to my free apps programming.
I understand that I'm supposed to be seeing more advertising but that's missing too. I was told at the end of my tech support conversation to buy another box because the warranty has obviously run out, but of course, they stopped selling the boxes several weeks ago and I'm stuck with a box that only works for half of what we used to watch.
Any suggestions for my next step? TIA!

I'm not from the US, but I'm pretty this is sounding like some sort of cache bug.
Try going to each individual app in settings and clearing cache and data; if this doesn't solve it, then I would remove the app and reinstall it.
If this doesn't work, I'd try deregistering your Amazon account in settings with the applications stated removed; then registering again, this may refresh the app store's data.
Lastly, try a factory reset of the Fire TV; this is a last resort.
Ok so i have same issues the main one being allcast i cannot stream to tv from phone or kindle hd the firestick just tells me to install allcast on firestick... i have also factory reset and still the same issues telling me to install the app... tryed on my old firestick not updated to 5.2.6.0 and all app are working fine
Uk user
Um. For those of you with the app store problems, does syncing your Amazon account fix this?
This is if you cannot download applications
Go to: Settings > My Account > Sync Amazon Content
What if you install the app from the browser interface on your laptop.

Try to install it remotely from the Amazon site, and choose to deliver it to the Fire stick you want. If it doesn't try to sync your account.
I doubt the application being installed is at issue, I believe there is some sort of configuration issue for you with the app. I don't use AllCast, so I can't help you there
This application has stopped working since the 21st September on newer released firmwares, the application developer will need to fix the issue with newer firmwares for AllCast.
This could be correlated with the issues others have; I doubt there has been major API changes.
Ok thanks i appreciate the reply regarding allcast app guess i just have to wait for an update and try it again..

I did all of this during my phone conversation with tech support, plus I had removed and reinstalled those apps prior to calling in with my problem. We did the deregistering/reregistering my account and then we did a full factory reset, which also didn't work. Is it possible that I have a corrupt install of this update? And could tech support remove the new version and knock it back to the previous one?
Interesting questions. I've had YouTube freezing after a few minutes, since the update. I'll do a clear cache/data as see if that resolves it. If not a new YT install.
I spoke with tech support last night because I reported this issue to them about 10 days ago and I wanted an update. The guy told me there was a master ticket in the system regarding this issue. It sounds like the new update triggered an hdcp error in certain apps. Like the OP, all my payed apps work but non of my amazon or free apps.

Android 7 on 2020 - Stream problems on Netflix and Amazon

Hello guys,
I'm having problems using Netflix and Amazon Prime, I'm currently on Resurrection Remix 5.8.5 which is working fine, smooth and stable. But I can't find a solution for these two stream platforms, I mean, yesterday I was able to configure Netflix using an add-on on Kodi, I found one for Amazon too, but it doesn't work for me cuz of the 2FA (I know, I can deactivate the 2FA to be able to login, but I was wondering if there's a solution for this).
The problems are:
Netflix: Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it stops and say error: 5.10, which following the solution from Netflix support, which is cleaning the cache and restarting the app and, doesn't work.
Amazon: This doesn't work at all, it shows the movies but when I select it to play, it loads but go back to title selection.
So, my point here is more like, what should I do to fix it? In the past I found some people saying that using an old app works, I tried today getting the apk versions made exclusive for Android 7 (API 25) and both doesn't let me even try, I get the message at the beginning that the app is outdated.
I tried both Netflix and Amazon's support, and basically both said: "You need to buy a newer Android device if our solutions doesn't help you", I understand that my tablet may be too much complex to get a newer Android version, since was not ment to it, but my tablet works fine, I never had a problem with it (other than this), and I'm struggling to believe that there's no way around it.
Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to give as many details as I could.
Thanks in advance for any help or ideias.
