Hi,
i found a Note 4 from at&t for a good price and want to buy it. What i am wondering is how will the phone work if i am using it with a Canadian carrier? I'm with Rogers in Canada. Will the phone still get OTA update from AT&T or will it follow Rogers' s update schedule?
Can there be any issues or loss of features?
You won't get any updates AT ALL.
Since its an ATT phone, it can only receive ATT software updates, but ONLY if you have an ATT sim card inserted. Since you'll have a Rogers sim inserted, the phone won't be connecting to the ATT network, thus won't get ATT updates. It won't get Rogers updates either since again, it's an ATT phone, not a Rogers phone.
The ONLY way for you to get updates would be through Odin, but ONLY if someone is able to upload the latest ATT update.
And no, you won't be able to flash a custom rom or the firmware from a different Note 4 version. And sim unlocking it won't fix the updates either, it'll only allow you to use the phone, as-is, on the Rogers (or any other) network.
All of this has been asked many times here, but involving different carriers. I'm griping about you not searching or anything, just letting you know that these past posts are where I'm getting my info from.

so i just got my SM-900W8 for Wind mobile today, had to buy it with two months service, but then was able to send half of the money i put down on that service over to my old account, switch the sims, and now i have my same old number and plan on my new note, and i'm only out an extra 20 bucks (still bull****, i know, but i wanted it today and wasn't going to deal with waiting, for any reason.... maybe too impatient lol)
anyways, after i bought it, i stopped by the bell store and asked what model they sell... they showed me the box and it was the exact same model number... SM-900W8. i then went to rogers, same thing, and telus i presume will be the same since bell and telus share towers etc
so, my question is, if i unlocked my phone, could i simply go get a bell rogers or telus sim card, and throw it in, and have it work? the region issue is a non-starter for two reasons - first i didn't even have that region lock sticker on my box, but second, the robelus sims would all be the same region, so it shouldn't matter in the least. what i'm wondering is, would the bands be the same, or at least some of the same to the point of working? i know that wind uses AWS bands and robelus does not, but since they are the same model number, is it possible that they have radios that are compatible with all four carriers in this phone?
if not, can someone explain to me how to find out what networks this phone would work on? i mean, it sounds like people are unlocking their tmobile phone and using it on att, and from what i remembered, att is not aws, and i thought that rogers and att phones worked together... ARGG what gives here?
also, are the tmo phones the same model number as mine? or did they use different phones than wind this time around?
finally, if i'm looking to root this or put a rom on this, am i looking for the tmo roms and other stuff like i was with my sgs3 or am i looking for something else with this new phone? where can i find this info... i haven't been able to find much about this yet, i guess not many people have this phone on wind yet
W8 model also has AWS HSPA and LTE.

Thanks for the answer, but I don't know for sure what bands the big three use, can anyone tell me if this phone will work on those big networks?
Also, any answers to my other questions ?
Rogers, Bell and Wind all use the SM-900W8 variant probably with just a different modem / QCP file.
So does this mean that there is some chance of, in the future when things get cracked, of flashing a new modem etc onto it our something

to answer my own question, yes, i unlocked my n900w8 from wind with an unlock code, and i was able to see whatever networks were attached to the sim i put in it. rogers, bell, telus, koodo, virgin, fido, wind, probabaly chatr if you really wanted to use this device on that dumb ass carrier
so yes, you dont even need to flash other modems... it just works
i did try flashing bell/rogers/puerto rico roms on my device and all had the same result, it all worked, and it all worked fine
Samsung galaxy note 3 SM-N900W8 from videotron (canada)
Hi, i have a Samsung galaxy note 3 SM-N900W8 from videotron (canada) and i unlock with a code to use it with fido and the phone show only the 3G internet, is there a way to enable the LTE? when i go to setting mobile network, network mode show me only 3 options WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) or WCDMA only or GSM only. I tried to root the device to do like this forum said ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2489766 ) and when i root it it says pass but it stuck on rebooting and something red is written on the next line and samsung logo is there too. anyone can help me to enable the LTE network?
Ok ive never tried unlocking my phone yet but if i were to do it are there any other benefits other than being able to switch your sims to those of other phone companies? like if i were to switch to a verizon sim would i be able to flash verizon roms or is the phone restricted to tmobile based roms?
Always flash ONLY those items built specifically for your model device.

Unlocking allows you to use that device with other Carriers. With VZW, given that this is GSM Device and VZW is CDMA, Inherently they are not compatible. However people have reported success using VZW S3 on T-Mo. So who knows.
As Doc said, you still won't be able to flash VZW Roms, Modem etc.
unlocking a T999 won't do anything for you if you stick with T-Mobile services. It's beneficial if you keep the same phone and switch to ATT for example. Or in my case, ship the phone overseas to family members that can use an un-locked phone on one of their cell phone services
Dear Devs/ Friends.
Having a serious issue with a lot of N900T on Stock Ml7 . After rooting through Chain fire and unlocking through region unlock app Most of the N900T we have are not recognizing "Mobilicity" Canada Sim Card. it keep saying "No Sim Present". and with WIND Mobile it recognize the sim card but only data works and it keep on saying searching in network. and even we manually searched for networks . It see all networks but it will not register.
It does work with Bell, Telus, Rogers, LTE, 2G 3G perfectly.
Initially it is from TMobile USA. And interestingly it started happening recently as we been unlocking these note 3 from couple months now and they were all fine. I do not know if it is the OTA update or something else.
Can some one please help.
Any update guys? i am really stuck here. none of the Note 3 N900T from tMobile seems to work with AWS Carriers in Canada. even though they have the same frequencies as Tmobile AWS. They were all working a few days back and now they are not. It does not seems like a OTA Upgrade or anything which disabled it somehow. is it our unlocking ( Chaifire rooting, + RegionUnlock Aways) which is causing it?

Did you solve your problem?
Hi guys,
I have option to buy n920a in Europe, but is there any chance I can update phone without active AT&T sim card? Phone is brand new and unlocked, perfectly working 4g in my country, but only problem that worrys me is software update.
The ATT updates can be done without an ATT simcard, but the updates received to the ATT model are soo slow. You should just buy the international model, since they are rootable, and samsung updates them w.o the ATT bloat.
I have an LG G8 at&t and I can only update with the operator's sim card, but where I live there is no coverage. Someone has tried to buy the sim card and use it when roaming. Or does anyone know another method to update? Thank you

hi, did you find any solution for this?
Following to this thread. I really need to update my phone to latest update so i can view my netflix in hdr already
No, I heard that the only way to update the AT&T variant is to be in the U.S. and actively using an AT&T SIM... or you need to go to an AT&T store to get it updated manually. What a horrid company, why even lock away a mere software update ?
EDIT: There is a way to get updates outside the USA as long as you have an activated AT&T SIM with data roaming enabled... will attempt this here in Canada once my SIM arrives

Before you update, can you join the telegram group? I think there is a fairly easy way to get the link of the update download if you manage to update in the first place. This can help others update, but only if they are on the right pie firmware to begin with. If you aren't on the latest pie yet, it would be great if you could try and get the link for every single update, so everyone can update like they did for the sprint beta
Looks like the activated SIM method won’t work for me as the phone hasn’t detected any updates for a week. On Airplane Mode and off Airplane Mode. Sucks for me
