Slow camera saving? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just noticed today that the camera has become very slow (1 second or more) for saving pictures. Did not see that before and I've tried both internal storage and SD card for saving, with the same result.
I've factory restored my phone and it went back to normal until all my apps were installed / updated.
Is anyone experiencing the same?
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk

Update: when not on wifi things are normal. I suspect either Google Photos or my WD automatic backup. Will try to uninstall both and report back when I'm on my wifi again.

Try disabling HDR mode in Camera settings.
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

HDR isn't at fault here. I tried with and without it as well. Also I'm not in manual mode with RAW saving. I'm quite sure it's related to the wifi backup processes but I'll try to confirm that later.

How or where are you experiencing this lag? Is it taking time to display the preview on the camera screen? Are you switching to Google Photos or the Gallery app and not finding it?

Let us know your findings. I encounter this as well. No idea what to look at. Thanks

Must be an app causing the issues.

I thought that when I took a picture the other day... I noticed someone said about disabling google photos... and that it doesn't happen when not on wifi.
I'm running google photos too, and also by default it only backs up over wifi.... things are beginning to add up now.
I might disable the google photos auto backup and see if there is any difference...

Only when on wifi. It's taking time to display the preview in the camera screen and during that time the shutter button is unavailable. The picture gets recorded, it's just taking an aweful lot of time.

I'm definitely suspecting Google Photos, but I read that even after uninstalling it the pictures keep getting backed up so there must be another process that does it. I haven't had the time to do more tests yet but as soon as I have I'll report back.

Was having similar issue as the OP on VS986 after changing DPI. Reverted back as it was in a boot loop of sorts. Booted into stock recovery and did a cache wipe and now it's back to normal. Not sure if this will work your you, but you have nothing to lose.

Instagram Problem.

For some reason, I was trying to put up a picture that I recently took from my S4, but it kept getting messed up, one was with black background and the whole picture was black. that's all. Then one was white so it was pixelated. So I told my friend to put it up and i Sent him it and he put it up on my account with no problem. Are any of you guys facing this problem? And if so any solutions?
Just sent a picture I took earlier through, came out fine for me. Did you use the instagram camera or the built in one?

There is an update, but I think it was more so for international users mostly. When in doubt, delete app and reinstall, that would be my suggestion, reboot if needed first.

Try another pic of the same or something black, see what happens. If it happens, maybe something wrong with color recognition, doesn't this device have a setting for RGB in there somewhere? Too new now to know of common problems, good thing for warranty and forums like XDA !

Sorry I couldn't be of much help, if it is just isolated to Instagram only, it may be app/device incompatibility would be my bets guess. However, with it running 4.2.2, that almost makes me think it is on the apps dev side. An update from Instagram may resolve it, or email dev of app.
Ever since update I'm getting the same thing

Can you two provide a pic? I am on 4.2.2. (mind you, also on a SGS2), and I updated IG and I am not experiencing this. It may be device related, ruling out 4.2.2, but again, I am AOKP, not TW. Root that bad boy, the devs will have great ROMs for this beast of a phone.

Rebooted, of course. Wiped cache. But that's about all you can do. I thought there was a calibration process in Settings but, if there is, it eludes me. I can't even get the S-pen to calibrate. I suppose I could do a factory reset and start from scratch but its not worth the aggravation.

Actually, I haven't been able to recreate this problem since I posted this. I'm wondering if it was caused by the cover I used to use which had a very strong magnet. I'm now using the Samsung light cover.

Got another update Monday - not sure what it did but it was there - and it seemed to fix the issue for awhile. Now it's back the way it was. Oh well.
Gave up and went to Opera. Fixed all the problems so the issue was Chrome not working right.

Lag on Vzw HTC OnE??

Hey guys I just got my HTC One and I have read forums and articles where they say that the HTC One doesnt have any lag. Well idk if I got a defective phone or something but my One has definite lag sometimes especially on the launcher. Does anyone else experience this or is my phone F'd up?
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk 2
Now and even when I was on the stock rom, the day it launched, I never got any lag. It might be caused by an app you have running in the background. I wouldnt be surprised if some of the verizon/htc bloatware is causing the lag.

Go to Settings > Apps and slide the screen over to "Running" in there you can see what is currently being used by your phone. It will also show you how much RAM is currently being used.
It might also help uninstalling some of the apps you do not use, like facebook, g+ or whatever else is something not in use. Once we get the write privileges fixed you will be able to remove things like HTC Car and other apps that are installed to the system partition but not actually required for the phone to function.

I'd definitely exchange it. Are you using the car app? If not, it shouldn't be doing anything. And every review says this phone has no lag. The only time i see lag on my note 2 is when play store is updating crap in the background. Always slows things down.

Aw that sucks. It took a few extra seconds to open an app(which varies in time to open since it's loading content which is up and down at any given millisecond).

seems the apps that take a while to launch for me always shows a gray screen first for quite while then the app loads .
but like i said it seems to launch slower over time. and restarting is the only way to get it back to open faster.
i tried killing apps in background and freeing ram still opens same.

Selfies with the heart rate monitor only works if you are using Selfies mode for the front facing camera.
Selfies for the 16m camera is automatic in backfacing Selfies mode as you have to try and guess where your face is and it's pretty difficult. Though it foes beep to let you know when it sees your face.

If you're not willing to reset the phone, then you won't know if its a software or hardware issue. It will wind up being your loss when you can't exchange it for a new phone before the return date is up. Reinstalling some apps and re-entering some basic info isn't rocket science.

Reinstalling 230 apps and configuring these apps is tedious, and resetting the phone should be the last resort, not first one. If I wanted to reset the phone, I wouldn't ask the question here on XDA; I would have called Samsung support.

Then you should have called Samsung support. You have PHYSICAL and SOFTWARE functions that sound broken from what you've explained. I'll say it again, you provided us with an issue, icexshinigami provided you with information which you verified. If all of that is correct and your device is still not working correctly, you're either doing something wrong or you have a faulty device.
You got answers. Whether or not you liked them isn't my problem or anyone elses. Also, technically a restore is a fix. Samsung will tell you that over the phone after you verify everything you've already been told and they will either have you restore the device or return the device if you refuse to restore it or the restore doesn't work. How do I know this? I just went thought this with samsung and they did all this. Guess what? It was a FAULTY DEVICE.
Either take the time exhausting ALL your options, or don't ask for help at all. Man if reinstalling all "230 apps" is your biggest problem then I worry for you.
It wouldn't surprise me that after I post this everything gets magically fixed and you come with an explanation (if you even follow up) that wouldn't work anyways. Not trying to be rude but it sounds like you wouldn't own up to something you did and not the device.
And you have another thread on here asking questions about a problem on your phone. 2 and 2 together. I'm saying bad device. It happens.
I have the same problem. I've done a factory reset to diagnose a different problem (which helped, btw). It didn't help in this case though so it very well might be some hardware issue.
I should also state that when I place my finger on the heartrate sensor in the selfie mode, I do see it light up. It just never seems to vibrate or anything. Or perhaps it's just having trouble finding my face. Perhaps I'm just that ugly xD
Update:
Quite interestingly enough, I toggled between both regular selfie mode and the wide selfie mode and right back to regular. It's working now.
The only thing I can suggest is, when you place it in selfie mode and you press the heart rate sensor, is it lighting up? If not, then have you also tried the built-in fitness app to at least verify your heart rate sensor is functional?
1) Backup with Kies
2) Factory Reset
3) Restore with Kies
4) Try your selfie again with H/R sensor, if it fails you have 1 of 2 problems
a) You're not touching the H/R correctly
b) Bad device
Simple Enough Logic for OP?
