I get a constant notification in the notification bar about an OTA update, but never updates my phone.
Another issue I noticed is that I can't take a selfie using the heartrate monitor, the way it's supposed to work.
Anyone knows what's wrong?

Selfies with the heart rate monitor only works if you are using Selfies mode for the front facing camera.
Selfies for the 16m camera is automatic in backfacing Selfies mode as you have to try and guess where your face is and it's pretty difficult. Though it foes beep to let you know when it sees your face.

I said a factory reset is not a fix because it doesn't fix the issue without causing a lot of work resetting the phone.

If you're not willing to reset the phone, then you won't know if its a software or hardware issue. It will wind up being your loss when you can't exchange it for a new phone before the return date is up. Reinstalling some apps and re-entering some basic info isn't rocket science.

Reinstalling 230 apps and configuring these apps is tedious, and resetting the phone should be the last resort, not first one. If I wanted to reset the phone, I wouldn't ask the question here on XDA; I would have called Samsung support.

Then you should have called Samsung support. You have PHYSICAL and SOFTWARE functions that sound broken from what you've explained. I'll say it again, you provided us with an issue, icexshinigami provided you with information which you verified. If all of that is correct and your device is still not working correctly, you're either doing something wrong or you have a faulty device.
You got answers. Whether or not you liked them isn't my problem or anyone elses. Also, technically a restore is a fix. Samsung will tell you that over the phone after you verify everything you've already been told and they will either have you restore the device or return the device if you refuse to restore it or the restore doesn't work. How do I know this? I just went thought this with samsung and they did all this. Guess what? It was a FAULTY DEVICE.
Either take the time exhausting ALL your options, or don't ask for help at all. Man if reinstalling all "230 apps" is your biggest problem then I worry for you.
It wouldn't surprise me that after I post this everything gets magically fixed and you come with an explanation (if you even follow up) that wouldn't work anyways. Not trying to be rude but it sounds like you wouldn't own up to something you did and not the device.
And you have another thread on here asking questions about a problem on your phone. 2 and 2 together. I'm saying bad device. It happens.
I have the same problem. I've done a factory reset to diagnose a different problem (which helped, btw). It didn't help in this case though so it very well might be some hardware issue.
I should also state that when I place my finger on the heartrate sensor in the selfie mode, I do see it light up. It just never seems to vibrate or anything. Or perhaps it's just having trouble finding my face. Perhaps I'm just that ugly xD
Update:
Quite interestingly enough, I toggled between both regular selfie mode and the wide selfie mode and right back to regular. It's working now.
The only thing I can suggest is, when you place it in selfie mode and you press the heart rate sensor, is it lighting up? If not, then have you also tried the built-in fitness app to at least verify your heart rate sensor is functional?
1) Backup with Kies
2) Factory Reset
3) Restore with Kies
4) Try your selfie again with H/R sensor, if it fails you have 1 of 2 problems
a) You're not touching the H/R correctly
b) Bad device
Simple Enough Logic for OP?

When I was using my phone today, I noticed that a long press on the power button was shutting down the phone instead of bringing up the menu. Then, I realized that I had also lost my lock screen, which I really hadn't noticed because I don't use the pattern lock. Turns out, even if I enabled the pattern lock, password, or PIN, using the power button still took the phone straight into the home screen.
I don't know if it was an bug in a random app, malware, or what... I spent a lot of time searching for an answer on what might have caused it, but didn't find anything really helpful. I started deleting all my recent apps, but couldn't get the lock screen back, so I ended up restoring the phone to factory settings and starting from scratch.
The only reason I'm posting about it is that I'm not entirely sure what caused it... I'm debating the possibility that it could it could be a touchwiz bug. Anyone else ever run into this?

Ah, that would explain it... I was tearing out my hair trying to figure out what I had done. Funny thing is, I don't even *like* having a lock screen. I was just bothered by the fact something was wrong...
How did you find out that it's a known bug? I must have been phrasing my search poorly, because I couldn't find squat about the issue.
Still, whether I like the screen lock or not, I think this is a pretty decent security bug, considering it removes the ability to lock the phone...

I know because I seen it under "list of known issues". If you scroll down a few post you'll find it. The downside to not having a lockscreen is that if you receive a text message your phone will automatically unlock and you may accidentally dial someone if the phone is in your pocket.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH THE LOCKSCREEN ISSUE I ADVISE USING A 3RD PARTY LOCKSCREEN. I AM CURRENTLY USING "AGILE LOCKSCREEN" (WHICH CAN BE FOUND IN THE ANDROID MARKET). I AM USING THE PRO VERSION, BUT THE FREE ONE WILL DO THE JOB ALSO.

Mine's gone too.... Now that we have root I've a nandroid backup which I believe still had the lockscreen and will try restoring from that. If that doesn't work then I guess I'll do a master reset and restore from Titanium Backup. Hopefully Clockwork Recovery will survive the master reset...
I thought that was just me yesterday so I did a master reset

Just put the phone in your pocket with the screen facing AWAY from your body.

I found a few apps that tracks your phone down or even takes pictures of the person trying to unlock it, but like the title says, is there any app that blocks hard reset? It's kind of pointless if your phone gets stolen if they can just shut the phone off and do a hard reset to it and sign in with there email,
Thanks :-D

I guess in theory you could place an app like Seekdroid in the system folder and then do a hard reset. Usually a hard reset won't affect system apps.

Since AndroidLost.com allows you to send texts, I have setup a tasker profile which waits for a text that says "androidlost" and if it receives it, it enables GPS.

Rebooted, of course. Wiped cache. But that's about all you can do. I thought there was a calibration process in Settings but, if there is, it eludes me. I can't even get the S-pen to calibrate. I suppose I could do a factory reset and start from scratch but its not worth the aggravation.

I am so glad someone else is having this issue I've spent most of the day trying to resolve it. Ok, what I know so far:
It only happens on WIFI calling. I've cleared the wifi calling app no dice.
Customer service is unaware of the issue. They said use a different email account. UH NO I've had my gmail since it was in Beta.
I've reset my device twice it comes back after I re-install gmail I think it comes with the restore function I've tried stopping the restore function but it keeps coming back
Let me know if you fix it. I had a note two there may be a correlation

I have a thread on Google + it is somehow tied to wifi calling and to Google contacts sync. Anyway you have to clear the cache partition. Hold down volume up, home and power keys until you see Samsung note 3 then release just power until you are in recovery then chose volume down to clear cache and power button to select then restart you may have to factory reset the device
It seems fixed on my phone but a friend is still having trouble

So my camera seems to have stopped working properly. I don't believe it's a software issue. What happens is I fire up the camera and the screen will either remain black (while still being able to navigate camera options) or the camera will pop up and then the viewfinder will stop after a few seconds.
At first I figured it was software so I cleared the cams cache and data. No luck. Then I decided to flash a different ROM. I tried CM, and Dans GPE rom and no luck. Anyone got any ideas?
You could try replacing the back facing camera.
I did this on my last s4. (Ordered an oem part off a different s4).
It didn't fix my problem, however. At the time people were telling me it was a software problem.
