Looking to buy a Tab and need your help :) - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I would like to buy a Samsung Tablet, and i have several questions...
1) Which is currently the latest and Fastest Tablet? Tab A, Tab S or Tab Pro?
2)Which is the most recommended Tablet/Model - doesn't have to be Samsung, looking for something good...?
3) Lastly - if I buy a 4G (Unlocked - International) model can it be used as a phone? can I make and receive calls without an internet connection? if yes - which model and variant can do this?
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Fastest: tab s2 but won't be out for a month. Tab pro and tab s are about the same speed but the tab s has an ambled screen and smaller body. The tab a is a low end model that has no point but to transition Samsung to 4/3 screens
Most recommended :depends on your needs. I have a tab s 8.4 and have recommended it (and would recommend the 10.5). If I were a pure gamer, the Nvidia shield is faster but bulky. If I didn't need micro SD, the Nexus 9 is very good. I also had the Xperia z3 tablet compact which was water proof.
Either the 705/805 international models support voice calls. Don't get the us LTE versions as they don't do voice.

Thanks, that was a good start, so I will go for the TAB S or TAB S2 the only other i was considering was the Sony Z4 Tablet that look pretty interesting... The site bellow helped me out also,
https://www.androidpit.com/best-android-tablets
I wanted to confirm - If i bought the TAB S 8.4" or 10.5" in Europe and Unlocked with sim card support (4G/LTE) than it will definitely allow me to use the tablet as a phone - make and receive calls, sms, mms ect without any issues or restrictions?
Any chance someone knows if the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet can also be used as a phone?
THANKS AGAIN

If you browse the internet or read books, anything with a white background get an tablet with an lcd screen as oled uses twice the power of lcd when showing white, you can use browser or apps with what is called night mode where white becomes black, then oled uses less power than lcd then, also it great for viewing in the dark.
If you watch video`s more than browse or read, then oled is the screen type you should buy, as it uses less power than an lcd screen when viewing video.
Oled or as Samsung calls it Amoled looks the best of any display technology, the colours are amazing .
John.

As far as I know all European models are unlocked, so calls, sms, mms are all possible. Mine certainly is.

An ear piece? It has speakers and a head phone jack.
It has everything you would have on a normal phone.

Now is a great time to NOT buy a Tab S imho. Wait a few weeks and you'll have the S2, or a few weeks more for the next Nexus tablet.

You're comparing apples and pears.
Some people prefer the ratio of the tab s over the s2.

I wonder if the smaller battery on the S2 means it will have less battery life than the S1, or will the smaller display, more efficient oled display, more efficient soc 20 nm vs 28 nm make up for the difference.
when is the S2 getting released.
John.

Agreed am waiting for my 32gb 10.5 lte to arrive. Tab s2 has lower and smaller screen quality, so its a no no for me. Would take tab s any day. If you want apple likeness then might as well buy an iPad.

Nexus? I thought I read that they weren't coming out with a new Nexus tablet until next year.
I have a Tab S 8.4 and a 10.5. I have been thinking of getting a Nexus 9 to tinker with, but I could wait on that if I knew a new Nexus tablet was coming out soon.

There's already a review on a russian site, if Google translator doesn't get it wrong, it's going to have worse battery life than the Tab S. As expected, really, since the reduction in battery capacity is quite significant.
http://xdrv.ru/articles/tablets/330/4

According to the review, the difference between the 9.7" S2 and 10.5" S1 is only slight the S1 gets 82 and the S2 gets 79
But the 10.5" they tested had an snapdragon soc, not the xynos

Their review of the original Tab S used an Exynos 5420-based tab for the test:
http://xdrv.ru/articles/tablets/273/full
Or am I confused and we're talking about different things?

I am talking about the comparison of battery runtime between the S1 and S2 see link in my post above, they use an T805 with an Snapdragon soc
The review you just posted is an T800 Xynos review by itself.

[Q] Upgrading from Nexus 4 to Galaxy Note 3 Neo. Should I?

Hi friends.
I currently own a Nexus 4 and I have loved this device for a REALLY long time. However, now I think its time to upgrade. My upgrade is due to the following 4 reasons ONLY.
1) Screen Size. I want a bigger screen size than my N4
2) Available Memory. 16 GB. Every now and then its full. Cant expand. I take lotsa pictures and videos.
3) Camera. MAJOR REASON. Oh I hate my phone whenever I open the camera app. The camera itself is just plain pathetic. It just cant focus AT ALL. The pictures are 95% of the times blur. No my hands are not shaky. But this phone requires your hands to be trained on a snipper perhaps. And the pics are always dull, without life.
4) Battery. Need to charge it quite a lot. Although I am not a heavy user at all. But KitKat has ruined the phone. Moreover, I do NOT play games at all and never use data. If it had a removable battery, I would have easily charged the extra battery and use it on the go.
Earlier I was thinking abt LG G Pro but now I am thinking of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo. So picking SGN3Neo for the following reasons:
1) First and foremost, Price. It has dramatically slashed. It now costs $380, unlocked.
2) Camera. I dont know but have read in the reviews that it's not on par with S4, however it miles better than N4. I mostly CROP images and stuff, so it is good for cropping? How's video/pics in night? Blur? or Clear?
3) Battery. Again, tech site and customers reviews say it is awesome. And ya, its removable. Lets say if it fails in a couple of year, i can easily buy one and replace it.
4) It's got a micro SD card slot upto 64 Gig. So memory shouldn't be a problem.
5) I think 720p should be fine, considering it has AMOLED display.
6) OTG, for even more space.
Prices of other phones in my country.
LG G2: $440
LG G Pro: $280
Galaxy S4: $450
OnePlus One: *ock Teaser (not interested)
As you can see, almost all these phones are priced quite above Neo 3, so I am toooo inclined towards the Neo as it has decent specs. Moreover, I don't much care about Android updates. But still would want to know, have you guys gotten KITKAT? As MANYY users are reporting firmware issues and other day-to-day issues with the phone. Like: phones shows full signals, regardless sim is inserted or not. Or, screen flickering issues. etc
I would request you guys to let me know how the camera is. The camera is very important for me, so please tel me your experiences. And is there any other flaw you guys found with the Neo 3 that you suggest me not opting for it?
And ya does ti lag badly? Say like S3? (The only reason I have hated samsung phones is, LAG. Please tell me does it lag after a while?
, once the phone is filled with lotsa apps and media?
TL;DR... Want to upgrade from N4 to SGN3 Neo. Please suggest.
1. Got mine for around $360 unlocked, great value.
2. The camera is great. Video is superb. Low-light is excellent too. Having a little difficulty focusing on a macro scale though, well it's same for most devices too. The front camera is good as well, even for a 2MP.
3. Battery. 74HR Endurance Rating on GSMArena. Excellent!
4. Yep!
5. 720P S-Amoled. What looks bad on paper, actually looks great, in my opinion. I don't notice much difference having used a N3 before. Lower res = better battery life. S-Amoled means excellent viewing angles, deep blacks and good saturation!
6. OTG. Expansion much?
go for it. You have your concerns covered.

Thank you bro.
By the way, Samsung has just launched Neo 3 with Snapdragon 800 CPU and a subsequent GPU. Currently available in Korea only. I am sure it will make it to other countries too. Do you think I should wait a little longer and grab that one? It's available in Korea since Mar 3rd, however, I couldn't find even its model number on internet, so that I may ask the store here in my city to get one. Plus, its not even mentioned on eBay or Amazon :s

They will. I mean all these phones, regarldless of their region of release, make it to almost everywhere. But I was wondering, is QS 800 THAT good than the Exynos Hexacore that I should wait?
If there is a difference of lets say, 20% even, I am pretty much OK with it.

The Hexa Neo is a workhorse. The Snapdragon might/might not reach you. If it does, just pray it's bands would be supported. Also, the firmware might be least updated, and compatibility issues with the roms/tweaks/root that might be available.
It's your call though. :fingers-crossed:

I own a N3Neo and came from a Nexus 4. Pretty much everything you mentioned is a pro for the N3N3o against the Nexus 4. I love having access to a SD card again since I can load it up with music (I don't use the cloud since I listen to music on my commute to work and there are dead spots for cell service for me). Regarding the display, 720p o a 5.5 is perfectly fine.

I own the Hong Kong version and I haven't had many problems with the phone. The stock 4.3 firmware is excellent. The only major issue I have is sometimes the radio doesn't pick up a signal when I go from a dead zone to a non-dead zone - turning on airplane mode and then off fixes it. Not a major annoyance.

Oh I can't tell you how much I am loving this BIG screen. It's like I just bought myself an aeroplane haha. And that S-pen! Gosh it's a KILLER. No doubt the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo is an amazing amazinggg experience. Moreover, I don't understand the hate people have against TouchWiz. Coming from a Nexus, I know how it feels. You go crazy and jump around, when you get an android update and in real life usage, what you get IS, a new interface of the dialer, which apparently is a knock of of Windows UI. Nexus, always left me with desires... the desires of MOST simplest things which Google doesn't care much about.
BDW I am still getting those blurry images even after disabling the Image Stabilization. One of the biggest problems with Nexus Camera (apart from insanely pathetic cam quality) was, I had to keep my hands ROCK and STEADY to take a clear pic... else pictures used to come out blurry. I am seeing this somewhat in this phone too. Samsung has the best cameras in cell phones since ages. Wasn't expecting this. What's your firmware? Let me compare with mine.

I don't really have a problem with TW really in normal usage - I keep things simple on my phone. Three home screens, a few widgets and the quick toggles when you drop down the notification shade has everything I need quick access too. The button that brings you to more toggles I rarely use. I feel like keeping it simple helps when "migrating" from stock Android to Touchwiz - just don't bother with all the extra doohickies Samsung bundles. My only gripe is the unnecessary complexity of Settings, but thankfully there is a search bar to quickly search for setting that's buried somewhere.
On the Neo, TW barely lags if any which is really odd since playing around with the US version of the Note 3, GS4 and GS5 I noticed lag in touchwiz on demo models in stores (maybe cuz they're on for so long and people play around with them?). But, even so, on my Neo, a whole day of using it, no lag.

The "blurriness" I was talking about was when smart stabilization is on and I quickly move the phone while the phone is processing the image the resulting picture is not what I took, but mid-motion. I just tried out taking some photos with smart stabilization on and off and the photos are noticeably blurry with the setting off. I'd say keep the stabilization on, take a picture with somewhat steady hands and then wait for the phone to finish processing the image to get best results.
Regarding firmware I am on N7505ZHUAND2 which is the latest firmware for the Hong Kong version - that's the region phone I was shipped.

[Q] Looking to buy G3, questions

As title states...
I'm the primary account holder and bought my Galaxy S4 out right. Well I'm thinking of using one of the lines that has jump and swapping it out for the LG G3 for myself (and give the S4 to the other party).
1.) How does the T-Mobile variant differ from the international version?
2.) Does it have FM included in it?
3.) How easy is this thing to root/flash recovery? Does it come with a locked bootloader? If so, how do you unlock it? I'm coming from owning Galaxy and Nexus products and all had no bootloader problems so I'm a bit leery going to another manufacturer.
4.) How's battery life on this device? I've just about had my fair share of TouchWiz and Samsung (even with AOKP on it as we speak). I really enjoy my fiance's Nexus 5 the way I had it set up but my biggest pet peeve is the battery is small and limited on that device
5.) Most important question, does anyone have any experience with the Xperia Z2 as well? This was the phone I really wanted to get but I can't justify spending $600 on eBay with no warranty on a device versus basically a free upgrade (I pay for all the lines on the account). Any thoughts on the camera on the LG G3 compared to the other flagships (e.g. Xperia Z2, Galaxy S5, Lumina, iPhone)? I use the camera a lot and some reviews I saw said it can be washed out and isn't the greatest.
Thanks for the help. :good:
If you like the Nexus then you'll love the g3. Its the big brother of the Nexus. I say go for it.

1. WiFi calling, you don't get an antenna(only works on korea), unlocked bootloader, and you don't get headphones nor a spare battery in the box like the korean version. I think the international phone brings headphones.
2. It's incredibly easy thanks to the developers. Root/recovery is available for T-Mobile. Root is available to everyone except sprint(coming soon). Only T-Mobile has recovery so far.
3. Everyone's usage is different but I love the battery if this phone. I easily get 16-20 hrs of standby and 5-5.5 of screen time.
4. I have no experience with the Z2 but I really like the G3 camera. There are picture threads on the T-Mobile and regular g3 sections that you can take a look at.

No FM, not sure which phones even have it since it's not a feature I look for.
Battery life is much better than it was for me with the N5. I used Greenify and Lux brightness to keep it low on the N5 and I would still be under 15% at night with maybe 1.5 hours of screen time, at the most.
The G3 has been much better. I went to bed last night with 22 % left after 12 hours of use and 2.5 hours of screen time. I had never achieved that on the Nexus 5. I have a ton of apps that wake up the phone: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Hangouts, SMS, Google Music runs often. I even spent all day off of work's WiFi. Today I have turned it on, so we'll see if battery life improves. I had also turned off WiFi when screen is off due to the privacy bug, but today I enabled it again to see how much impact it has on the battery.
I am not a fan of Samsung devices and dislike Touchwiz. The skin on the G3 is pretty decent. It's not very intrusive, and even though I miss some of the N5's icons and cleaner notification drawer and status bar, the G3 has a pretty clean interface without having to disable everything.
The big advantage of the Tmo version is we already have a recovery, so we should be able to get more tweaks in ROMs soon.
I have been unable to get tethering to work (without the usage counting towards your tether bucket), and there are reports of international roaming issues.
Phone is running 4.4.2, and I'm not sure how good LG will be with an L update, but I don't think they'd be too bad. Hopefully a GPE version comes along and we can convert the phone to that.
The camera is pretty good, much better than my N5. The built in camera app does a pretty sh**ty job at auto White Balance in low light, but it is fast. I haven't used a Z2 in person, but the Z1 I tried a while back didn't blow me away in terms of camera quality. This one doesn't blow me away either, but it's an improvement over what I had before. I always had to use HDR+ mode on the N5, which meant photos took a long time, but they came out pretty good. I do miss HDR+ for low light photos.
You can use hdr on the g3 camera app.
so to be clear, no locked bootloader correct? Just run ADB to obtain root and flash a recovery?

You can, but it's not nearly as good as Google's exclusive HDR+ I keep forgetting to see if someone has ported the feature over to another device.

Yup, all done for you in a script, or you can do it manually if you so desire. I did it on mine and I have TWRP (it looks funny because it only takes about two thirds of the screen) and root.

1.) As noted above, the T-Mobile G3 has does not come with earbuds or a spare battery. It does support Qi wireless charging, if you have the right cover.
2.) No FM radio.
3.) T-Mobile G3 bootloader is unlocked out of the box. Rooting is brain-dead simple, thanks to PurpleDrake.
4.) Battery life is above average, but not exceptional. My old Note 2 went longer between charges, but my G3 always has >20% left at the end of the day, so I can't complain. It really depends on how you use the phone. You could completely drain it playing heavy 3D games or watching Netflix all day, but that would drain any device (except perhaps a Droid Maxx)
5.) I have no experience with the Xperia Z2, so I cannot comment about that.

Not necessarily. If you like the "vanilla" android experience of the Nexus 5, then you might not care for the LG UI. It is less laggy than Touchwiz, but it's still there. People that are used to no-frills style of AOSP might be turned off by the LG UI. Of course, that will change once the G3 gets cyanogenmod support, but that is down the road.
YAY! Phone rocks. Got it rooted and whatnot. Don't see much out there yet for development. Anyways, how do we go about getting wireless charging? I noticed it doesn't come with anything out of the box stock.

You can get the quick case, it replaces the back and has wireless charging. If you don't like the flip cover (I don't), you can get a back cover with wireless charging. There's a Verizon version that has been confirmed to work with our D851.

No one knows whether Samsung will update the first generation Tab S series with Android or even from the current v5.0.2 to 5.1.1 but there are already some custom ROMs including CM 12.1 at the 5.1.1 level. The issue with custom ROMs on a brand new device, unlike a Nexus device, is loss of warranty. It is possible to root a SM-T805 without tripping Knox by following a guide posted in the General section.
Note that the second generation Tab S is supposed to be announced very soon maybe before the end of the month. It is supposed to have a different screen aspect ratio (4:3 like iPads). A priority for my Tablet is watching video so I bought a SM-T800 just so I could have the AMOLED screen at a 16:10 aspect ratio.

DON'T BUY IT FROM A CARRIER. I made that mistake and I'll regret it for the next year and a half. My bootloader is locked and root is essentially never going to happen for me. This would be an awesome tablet if I could unlock everything it's technically capable of.
The screen is as breathtaking as everyone says. I won't even put a screen protector on mine because no reputable brand makes a glass one for this device. Unfortunately (if you buy the locked, branded versions from the cell carriers) you're locked into using TouchWiz so you're stuck with this fugly iOS-looking BLINDING white color scheme. Apparently with an AMOLED screen, white uses less power than black (I have no evidence to back that up; it's what I heard) but I'd gladly sacrifice battery life in exchange for not having my eyeballs blasted out every time I use it.
My advice: get the Nexus. Because why not? It's everything this is for probably a little less money and you'll never, ever have to worry about bloatware or the vendor sneaking ridiculous nonsense in with an OTA update.

which model do you have and hows the performance and also are there any 5.1.1 rom with no bugs or minor bugs maybe
What it really comes down to is, what do you want the tablet for?
If you are a media consumer (love watching tv/movies/reading magazines/ect....) then the screen on this tablet is amazing and the processor/ram is nicely setup to allow you to do so very smoothly.
If you want to play games this is jot the best choice as the Nvidia shoeld tablet has a lower resolution and better hardware for games allowing for higher framerstes with more bells and wistles turned on for the same price or close to it.
If you just want a simple web browsing tablet for email/facebook/(insert social media app of the month)/light word processing (light because android is not the ideal platform for that.), then this tablet will work great but you could probably save a good amount of money going for something else cheeper.
As for what roms run on the tablet, any major device release wil probably have enough enthusiasts (cough *xda* cough) to make up for it not being a google product and sometimes the enthusiasts will one up stock android. So unless you buy an unpopular value brand you should almost always find some rom development.

I havent rooted mine yet
Mine is T800 Wifi Version
The main reason i bought this one is for media consumption like watching movies, TV Shows n all so havent thought about any customizations
There was this offer on flipkart 2 months back, 10.5 LTE for 22K. Tht was a steal, missed that
And recently a week back, they were offering 10.5 WIFI version for 23k so i bought it
I would suggest you to wait for a while if price matters, Wifi version will be offered for the same 23k or even less very soon
It`s black that use less power than white, virtually zero , I would kill for a really good amoled friendly browser.

[Q] Galaxy Tab S or S2 ?

Hi Guys,
My 2012 Nexus 10 is showing its age and I am desperate for a new tablet. I waited so long for Galaxy Tab S2, but I am kinda disappointed with its spec. old 5433 SoC and 4:3 screen with downgraded ppi and resolution ! so I am thinking about Galaxy Tab S, what do you think about it after lollipop update ? I heard many users complained about its lags and underpowered SoC, would you recommend it ? also how is the custom ROM community for it ? I can see there are a couple custom ROMs but are there stable enough to for daily usage ? I remember exynos had very limited developer support, so there was not many great ROMs for exynos devices out there, what do you think ? Galaxy Tab S or S2 ?
The S1 is a masterpiece the S2 is a frankenstein monster, 4:3 spit, virtually mono sound spit, so looks plain jane spit, no camera flash spit, no if-red spit, portrait design spit, I though it was an Galaxy Tab A by the photo`s it looks so cheap.
Exynos version has loads of rom`s, snapdragon version hardly any, If you want stability stick to kitkat, if your fine with flashing have fun with different roms.
John
But what about the lags and stutters on kitkat ? I heard lollipop fixed that. is it true ?
I have had no lag or stutter on my 10.5" kitkat , I had it running continuously for 160 days, I never shut it down or restarted it, I only did a restart to re-calibrate my battery but i had no problems with the battery, it was just maintenance.
But i am not a gamer, I mostly watch video`s and browse the internet for at least an hour every day, but white on an oled display eats the battery, if you do a lot of browsing use night mode or get an lcd tablet.

hmm. hard question. I personally would not get either right now. The s2 looks like a step backwards in the key areas, the darn screen.
the s has the lovely screen, but unless you can get a decent deal, its too long in the tooth to spend out a lot for.
its so irritating as there are no tabs which tick all the boxes. the experia z3 is good, but the res is lower, but everything else is up to speed.
dont get me wrong, I really do like my tablet, but who knows what is coming out in the next few months, or will be announced. I hope finally there is something which is progress in all areas.
The Tab S2 has a lower resolution screen than the Tab S (both resolution AND PPI), a significantly smaller battery and a marginally upgraded processor.
I'd wait for the true successor to the Tab S - which will likely a more upmarket SAMOLED tablet, priced higher than the Tab S with a full metal body (Like the Galaxy Tab A) and more of a competitor for the iPad.
I prefer plastic to metal, metal is cold and when bent or dented it does not spring back like plastic also it blocks radio waves so you have to have non metal sections to let the waves in and out, Samsung are masters of durable plastic, you can bend the battery cover of their phones almost in two and it will spring back without any damage try that with metal.
John
So I bought my Tab S around a month ago and I have to say I'm in love with it! After seeing the specs of the Tab S 2 I knew straight away the device for me.
The tab s in my opinion tick pretty much every box the only thing I wish was better is the GPU for gaming (not that it plays games badly - they play well enough) but I can be quite picky and if I'm not getting the max FPS from a game I feel upset! Everything else on the tablet is perfect and I'm the kind of chap that sells his devices every couple of months for the latest better version but this is the first device I've come across that I've not even looked at replacing, well worth the £300 I spent for it. The xperia z4 tablet is now out and it's specs are majorly impressive but it's thick bezels I think make it an ugly design, I love the thin sides of the Tab S, another tablet I've been looking at is the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 but again after seeing it in the shop I think it's quite ugly and put a Bluetooth keyboard, mouse and hancom fine with my tab s and it's replaced my laptop, which I'm selling on eBay at the moment as it hasn't been used since I bought my tablet.
I'm a network manager at a school and have used my Tab S for a hell of a lot including connecting to multiple servers and writing 30 page policies. It's a great little device.
I upgraded to Lollipop but I'm using IronRom instead of stock and I have to say it's very stable and very fast. No lag. On antutu I got around the 4100 mark with all my GPU and CPU over locked it's just as powerful as an S5 phone. I'd recommend it to anyone and already multiple family members and the girlfriend have ordered one after seeing mine.
Sorry this was long but I hope it helped
Comes down to a few questions:
Do you value performance. The Exnos 5420 is a 2 year old processor. The 5433/7410 is a 1 year old processor (though it is a 20nn version of the 7420 in the S6)
Do you value battery life. The Tab S2 8.0 has a battery that is 20% smaller than the original tab. It may be that the 20nn processor and smaller newer screen are more efficient but I don't expect better battery life.
Do you value longevity/updates: The Tab S2 is a year newer so it will have its updates discontinued later than the Tab S.
Does display ratio matter to you: If you mostly read, the Tab S2 may be a dream come true. If you mostly watch videos, it's a disaster.
Do you value internal storage: Other than a best buy limited edition model, the Tab S has 16gb storage. The S2 has 32GB.
It seems like the Tab S2 is a Galaxy Note 4 (international) turned into a tablet. The Tab S was the Galaxy Note 3 (international) turned into a tablet.
This is a tough question for me. I re-bought the Tab S 8.4 for 190 (ridiculous deal best buy had a few months ago) after leaving it late last year to try other tablets (The Xperia Z3 Tablet and the Venue 7840). I also bought the Tab S 8.4 on day 1 last year (great deal, $350 for the tablet, Samsung cover, and 16gb sd card) to replace my Tab Pro 8.4 that I bought on day 1. I'm leaning towards getting it if the same deal is in play.
I have asked basic maths for help:
smaller side of t800 is 5.87 inch and of t810 is 5.82 inch...
So I do not see any advantage for browsing in new generation...

Unfortunately yes he is right here as the Tab S processor is a year older, though I find it very quick and non-laggy when using IronRom on lollipop. As stated above the one thing I'd change is GPU performance but remember you always have over clocking when you root!

Best thing about android is that you can flash a custom ROM so updates never bother me as I can always flash a latest build of Cyanogenmod if needs be.

I have 16GB internal storage on my Tab S including a 128GB memory card. Everything including apps is stored on my memory card thanks to the app "foldermount" you must be rooted though, I don't think the Tab S 2 has expandable storage but I could be wrong.
Good Point the S1 beats the S2 in both horizontal and vertical resolution, so the S2 is not really better for browsing, though you have to turn the S1 10.5" to portrait mode as it`s an landscape tablet while the S1 8.4" is an portrait style already.

Thank you all for your responses and opinions, I guess I would go for a Galaxy Tab S. but I will wait until S2 is released so I can get a good deal. I expect galaxy tab s gets a discount when s2 is released.
S1 - just bought my third for the household, was holding out for the S2 but so glad i did not wait for a iPad Air copy.
This morning I read that the S2 comes with Android 5.0.2 and started to laugh. Seriously 5.1.1 has been out for months including on a few Samsung devices. At the glacial pace that Samsung updates their tablet OS versions Android M will have been out for at least three months before the S2 gets v5.1.1, what a joke.
That on top of an older processor makes you wonder why they even bothered. I'm very happy to have bought my S 10.5 at almost $70 less retail, a few months ago, rather than this laughable new flagship tablet. Samsung's advantage of the best screen technology in the industry is getting sabotaged by very odd engineering decisions. It seems like the tablet division is run by their B team.

Frankly speaking, I would never buy an S2 over the Tab S. At the moment on the Tab S you can have Lollipop, Xposed, custom kernels with F2FS, and the tablet flies, literally.

Well, the advantage is that is almost the same viewing area but in a smaller and lighter package. Also, much more natural than the awkwardness that 16:10 is in portrait on such a large tablet as the tab S IMO. YMMV.

That video sure did nothing to change my mind that the S2 is a step backward. Especially the comparison of reading the magazine which showed nothing visually while the video playback did demonstrate the smaller picture and unused screen black bars. Is Samsung going to pronounce, to video watchers, that the black bars on video playback is actually a way to extend your battery life? Which maybe needed as the thinner design and aspect ratio has reduced overall battery size. It is going to be tough to polish a turd and sell it at a flag ship price.
After reading the S2 details I'm still amazed that the OS is v5.0.2 and it does not have the same processor that the S6 phone uses. What were they thinking?

[Q] LG G3 for 2016?

Hi guys, thinking of purchasing a brand new LG G3 since I'm not happy with the Zenfone Selfie (looks better on paper but lags).
Would like to know/get some feedback from long time users regarding this unit. How has it been for you?
I will not be regularly flashing roms (I no longer have the time for this), but I will flash the most stable rom around (doesn't matter even if its kitkat )
I need good GPS (i use google maps for work, daily)
I need dual sim. (id have gotten the nexus 5x.)
is the g3 still good for 2016?
I don't play games but I multi task a lot. Facebook messenger (unfortunately need it for work), Facebook pages manager, Maps, Calls, text messaging, viber. On my zefone selfie, I get lags. My nexus 7 actually runs smoother!
Thank you! id appreciate any reply.
* I am afraid to buy the G4 because of the bootloop issues.
* g5 is out of the budget
honestly that depends on the price you're paying for the g3... if you can root it and flash fulmics, then you'll get better performance than stock kitkat.

that depends.. if you want a better camera, removable battery, nfc, a 2k screen go with g3.
if you want excellent battery backup, fingerprint scanner, better gaming performance, then go with redmi note 3. but if you're not a fan of miui, then you might wanna root it and go with custom rom path...
redmi note 3 also has excellent developer support imo.
dont buy better go with one plus one ... 2k display in this device ruined the true potential of the chip ... it drains battery and gaming performance also gets down as GPU has to render on 2k display ,,, OPO has same spec with 1080p display .. which is better .. battery backup is awesome .. but camera is no better than G3 ...
Thanks guys for the suggestions.
I'm not much into camera or gaming. I almost never play games. looking for a unit that can handle mutli tasking well (sms/facebook/viber/maps).
Will look into the other
will definitely flash a custom rom, and get as close to google (no other stuff) as possible.

I was choosing between G3 and Redmi 3S and i went for G3 (because i had experience with Nexus 4 and G2).
I am happy with my G3, however the Xiaomi phones are excellent. You should try them out first before making the decision.
I have a G3 with 6.0 MM v30N stock firmware ( 3 GB ram) and I have to say that if you use a lot apps like Google Maps with gps always on and using 4G too you will have a big battery drain due to 2k display also considerig that you use also socials like Facebook and Messenger a lot, so I don't know if G3 is the best choose for you right now cause I think you wouldn't be able to cover all the day with your use of the phone. I hope I have helped you and sorry for my english
G3 is a great phone but it is really great for taking pictures !
At the time (2-3 years ago) it was considered as the best of its class ... with similar or better perfomances than Apple & Samsung for quality pictures and clips.
Speaking of camera, the only thing nicer in G4, the follower to G3, is that it supports camera2 api (useful for manual settings). But then, there were so many problems of "motherboard giving boot loop issues" that the G4 is really useless or rather a bet on money (except if your mother board has a serial starting with numbers 505 up to 508 ...., then you are sure you pulled the wrong number and will have bootloop issue and death.
Beware, every "new" phone, though really expensive, comes bundled with deadly issues ! G4, for sure, but Samsung as well ... like S5 (the equivalent of G3, or S6 = G5 or S7 ... A search for "common problems" is really creepy !
Back to G3, a nice thing also, it that the back is not "glued" as in Sony Z1-Z2- etc. or Samsung S5-S6-S7 or plenty new phones. So, ok, you cannot take a bath with it or take pictures underwater, but so the battery can be taken away and changed easily (a plain second battery .always charged ... is a nice thing).
For the rest, all 2-3 years old top phones ( handle quite well everything common such as calling, surfing, playing, etc ... (same thing as with PC). Except if you are a gamer, dont get fooled by power !
Development for G3 will decrease quite rapidly because it is already an end of life product and it will be only occasionally developped by developpers who really love new things and new possibilites (Think of Nougat coming out these days)
Launched with KK android system, fully supporting LP it handles quite well MM (=Marshmallow)!
There's plenty to say yet, but everything really depends on your needs and the money you have.
This is just as buying a second hand car .... AND DON'T FORGET TO GOOGLE for " xyz COMMON PROBLEMS" where xyz is replaced by G3, or ... G4, or Gç, or S5, S6, S7 (for Samsung)
Have a nice day !
i had galaxy j7 2016 and i switched it with LG G3 , really happy with it
There's some catch imo: Cracks shows up in sides, back cover is easily cracks.... But mostly great phone for office worker, nice display, loud speaker, easy to handle, double tap to wake is nice, like in meeting, having it on the table, double tap doesn't distract as much as having phone in hands, and double tap to sleep... As multitask use is decent, but more ram might be needed, I think. Switching from one to other apps is good too. Now some custom roms have dual-screen options (two apps in one screen), but I can't remember which one...
One plus 3.......
The best phone with 400 bucks

Kinda wish the G3 had Oneplus 3 stats.
It would easily be the best phone of 2014 again and 2015 and 2016!

" loud speaker " ... as you say. And the G3 got it !
And I even set all volumes to 64 with LG G3 Volume Booster mod !
with the amount of tweaks you can make the G3 depending on the version out perform a lot of the other flagships
It is still relevant in 2016, or even 2017. G3 is on the list that will get Nougat.
