Change LG G2 with G3? Help guys. - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys I have a question for you. I have a LG G2 32 and my friend has LG G3 16gb. He wants to change the phones. He also wants my old Google Nexus aka Galaxy Nexus. I actually want G3 because it has more chance to become future updates but I know it has overheat problem. It becomes easily so hot. I'm OK with my phone but is it OK to change it and take G3. What you guys think? Is it a good deal? Is it possible to fix overheat, I know it's because of CPU but can we fix it with updates? Also will it get M update?
I need advice from you guys.

Take the g3, the overheat issue i have personally had no issues with. There are a lot of methods on the forum that can help counter the heat issue, i suggest searching for a few to read up on them. While the Android M update is not 100% confirmed, especially for all the variants of the lg g3, it most likely will happen and it is rumored that LG will skip the android 5.1 update, and work on bringing us Android M instead once released.

I would not do.
Some References Says LG Skip 5.1 And Jump To M, But Some References Says LG Update 5.1 Soon... So Confusing

Yeah do it bro, the heating issue is easily over seen because the G3 kicks so much ass

I took the G3. Thanks guys. I hope i will be happy with g3 and use it without any problem like g2.

I have had both and I really loved my G2 but my new G3 is a better device and although I could still be happy with my G2 my G3 rocks! I have both of them rooted and running cloudy rom's which is a must have for both phones in my opinion.

Same here had both g2 and now g3 both are most def worthy phones in there own ways i also only run cloudy on both and once again on both my g2 and g3 just about perfect all issues are and were outweighed by the kickassness of what u can pull off with either youll be happy

LG Gx - same device with jelly bean - Rage

i read an article that LG is gonna come out with a new device called LG - Gx wich has the exact same specs as the LG g pro with a little less PPI (401ppi) but with the new jelly bean OS ,
this is more than enough for anyone who has respect for his money to say no in the future to any LG cellular device,
money hungry company who gives a crap and puts even more crap on their costumers over time.

Too early to opine, personaly i take it with a grain of salt......would be surprised that they made a device with the same spec then 2013.....

I'm just hoping it has dev support and we can somehow rip the ROM and run it on the G Pro seeing that most of the hardware is the same.
well it look like I was not right......it seem that lg have made the same phone then the g pro....
http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_gx_goes_official_in_korea_with_55_screen_and_snapdragon_600-news-7375.php
to be honest I don't understand much why the lg x have the same spec then the g pro?? the positive point is that we gonna problably be able to port his newest rom in our g pro.. otherwise it not gonna be in the category of "flagship" especialy in 2014...
Hopefully LG will update the G Pro alongside it when it releases, although it is weird that lg is releasing the same phone with just newer software...

They're saving a fortune on software updates since they never update anything. Probably cheaper to just release another device and hope the public buys it. After all, we bought the OG Pro, didn't we and knew full well that no updates would be released.
We can only hope to port its stock rom onto our phone.
Just read that moto G is already receiving the 4.4 update. And v r still on 4.1.2 :banghead:

I just want my G Pro to have the same vanilla stock kit Kat nexus rom like my n7 and n4 have. This stock LG rom sucks up too much memory.
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda premium
The LGOGP has 2GB RAM, it's more than enough for running it lag free (mine running very smooth). With Android 4.3< things will be even better thanks to the new Trim function. From my experience 98% of the time the best rom for any device is based on its official release.
LG making a mistake in the long run not updating their devices.

Is G3 a good buy now..?

Hello Guys..This is my first post in G3 forum and I need some advice from u guys.
I have been using Xperia SP for the past 2 years..Now Looking to buy a new handset.
My main requirement is 3GB RAM.I have looked through many phones with 3GB RAM. But my mind is sticking with G3. And my budget is very strict. So,I can't go for G4.
I need to use this mobile for atleast 2 and a half years from now.
The only thing which is nagging my mind is that G3 is already one year old. So will it be able to survive the next 3 years..?
And my next considerations are Xperia Z3 and HTC One E9+.
Should I go with G3 or those above phones?
I had before buying the lg g3 ( sony z2 and samsung s5)
And i have to admit... Both of these phones were faster than my lg g3 in terms of speed and multitasking...
Im running the 5.0 on my g3 and there is some lag here and there...
So i wouldn't recommend getting the g3 ...
Go with the sony z3 my friend ..
Only consider LG if you can think google have stoped developing android.
Right now I would go to OPO, price tag is the same but development and battery life are way better

Thank you all for your valuable replies..
Currently these things are confusing me...
1.LG G3- Already one year old...So it's a doubt that it will be able to survive next 2-3 years..
2.Xperia Z3- Same reason as G3. And I am already using a Xperia SP.Got bored with Xperia's design.
3.HTC One E9+ - My favourite phone within my considerations. But GSMArena review says that Graphics performance is very poor. And GSMArena user's comments are very poor for this phone.
4.OnePlus Two- Ready to wait until it's launch. But really worried about Snapdragon 810's heating issue. Company says heating issues has been solved. But it's not actually solved. They are just hiding the issue by underclocking the processor. They have not actually fixed it.

Help me decide LG G4 vs Oneplus 2

Hey guys,
I need to decide between the LG G4 and the Oneplus 2. I really like the expandable memory and battery life of the G4, but the Oneplus has a great processor and lots of development. So I'm interested to know what you like and don't like about the G4. What should I know about the phone in considering it? There isn't much ROM or Kernel development from what I see here, how do you like what is available? How easy is it to root compared to Samsung, HTC, and Oneplus? How customizable is it? Can you simply OV/UC?
Any feedback is appreciated!
I had the same choice has you. I choosed G4 two weeks ago for a lot of reasons. (I had a Note4)
Problem : Touch default which will be correct in the next update
I prefer G4 against Oneplus2 for : Expandable memory, battery removable, more stable CPU/GPU, great screen, great photos/videos. Good battery.
I haven't root the phone actually, but I have downloaded the bootloader unlocker key on LG website. In fact root seems very easy.
Root is pretty simple and with an unlockable bootloader coming for most if not all variants the g4 development will be booming soon...i love the camera and the overall smoothness of my g4 and plan on keeping it for a long while

Unlockable bootloader...usually draws devs as a workaround is not needed to install custom roms/kernels...also root is an easy process...also i owned the original optimus g the g2 g3 and all had great developement...i will probably be an lg mobile buyer for life...plus an unlocked bootloader on such a powerful device just screams for attention
I highly doubt there'll be much development for the g4. And obviously there'll be way more for the op2. So if you buy a phone to flash roms all day long I think the decision is simple. For me the g4 with root and Xposed is perfect. I wouldn't flash anything else than stock on it if I got payed for it.

I dont flash ROMs everyday. Before my OPO got stolen. I hadnt flashed anything in about two months. I just want to make the phone run the way I want. Why do you think there wont be much development? And how do you think it would compare to g2 and g3 development?

It has been a long time since I used Xposed, but if I remember correctly you cant really tweak the voltages, clock speed, governors, io scheduler, Etc. Plus I'm concerned about development after LG ends support

Agreed.
The reason we used to flash roms daily was to fix faults and improve things which usually broke other things...
G4 on latest update seems pretty much perfect.
More time spent doing fun stuff now.

That's great, for now. But when Lg stops supporting the G4 in about a year, I'd like there to be continued dev.
Additionally, there are things I'd like to tweak to make the phone more suited for my use (gov/io, clock speed, processor voltage, wifi seek interval, etc) that I dont think I can do with xposed or with stock.
How much customizability is there with lg stock? What about the Kernels already available?

I'm happy leaving voltages etc alone. It works great as it is for me. Maybe check the dev section for progress but sounds like one plus 2 might suit you better.
The plan I'm on allows a new phone yearly so so fading dev support was never an issue.

According to lgs website the g2 is about to get 5.1...they may even get m...the support from lg is pretty amazing for an oem...i also had my g3 break out of warranty but it was a known issue and lg fixed it free of charge...thats why i stick to lg
I got a private message that really helped me a lot from Zilol. I'm posting it here for others who may be considering the same thing, with Zilol's permission of course
I would choose the G4 if it was overall experience and stability. But root and everything about KDZ is horrible if u are used to nexus-like devices, the G4 is way more trouble and all about being careful and a lot of more work as well. TWRP got erased and if u boot into recovery (stock), it automatically does a factory reset with wiping media too (I didnt know neither of those 2 factors) and I lost my internal storage. I was so mad, I gave the 1+2 a shot. Well, compared to the G4 the 1+2 feels like a unfinished buisness. The battery life isnt really above average. I would guess the SD810 to be the culprit but thats not the case. Its something about standby time, not OST but I guess that could be fixed by a software update. OxygenOS feels like an unfinished buisness, lacking several important features and a certain degree of stability. When I updated to 2.0.2, I lost the search bar in "recents" and "clear all apps" was gone as well, which just makes no sense, since u dont have an option to activate it, at least I didnt found it. The next thing is camera. On short distance its fine and compareable to the G4 but under low lights its another story. the photos arent as sharp as on the G4 when zoomed in but that could be the difference in megapixel count. but the biggest problem (just discovered like 2 mins ago) its just bad when it comes to distance shots. Because the infinite focus doesnt seem to work. When I manually focus, there is a short period where its sharp but when the focus is fixated its not sharp at all. I like in the 27th floor with a whole city to my feet and the picture quality differences speaks for themselves, especially at low light. otherwise the 1+2 cam is fine but not to take picture in the distance properly is an issue, maybe it will get fixed through an update.
I recommend the G4. I like stock android but in my opinion the LG UX was good to go. Its really not that much of a big deal. The cam is great, the battery life fair and u can swap battery and expand storage. The 1+2 does better at flashing and u dont loose warranty through BL unlock, only time will tell. Once they fix fingerprint for CM roms or until M is out and FP becomes native, I cant recommend 1+2 over G4. Or atleast they have to update oxygenos bc the current state is problematic, maybe CM roms are better but right now they lack laser-autofocus and fingerprint so thats a no-go for me. On the other hand OOS 2.1 will be out by the mid of the month, so maybe its worth the wait since its a 2.1 bigger update. Im positive 1+ will give their best but at the end of the day only real life performance counts even if they put much effort in it.
When it comes to build quali I prefer the 1+2 over the G4. The leather back is awesome but the chrome finish on the sides isnt my thing. both feel really good in the hand tho but the alu sides of the 1+2 makes it feel more premium. If u choose the 1+2 btw, be aware of the style swap covers. I bought it in china in the experience store, so Im talking about oem accessories. I bought the rosewood and kevlar back but they are thicker and make the phone more bulky. The standard sandstone covers finishes with the alu sides but the others stand out a little bit. Could be an aestethic problem.

Should I buy it? (v400)

Hello guys and thanks for your amazing support and development... I have a question.. I am planning to get LG G PAD 7.0 the WiFi edition (v400).. I guess it's the best in its price in my country.. and I heard that if it came with Lollipop I am no longer able to install TWRP and Flash custom ROMs??? because this is a very important thing for me.. and in general terms.. is it good in performance and everything? thanks a lot in advance

It's a nice budget tablet. I've had a V410 for over a year; its the lte version but otherwise the same tablet.
The screens don't have the greatest quality. Mine is a little spotty and has some backlight bleedthrough around the edges, and I've seen enough others complain about that to think it is a common problem. The 1gb a RAM is pretty limiting for multitasking. Don't expect fast switching between apps, they'll usually have to reload, and on rare occasion I've had the active task stopped by the low memory killer. This is somewhat improved on custom roms over the stock LG firmware, but still present.
The lollipop bootloaders are locked. Actually the kitkat bootloaders were locked too, but there was an easy exploit that allowed us to sign our own boot images.
If the new tablets are shipping with lollipop you'll have to use a kitkat kdz to downgrade the bootloader to run custom recovery and roms. Others have successfully downgraded the lollipop bootloader as long as you can get your hands on a kdz.
Personally if I was looking for a new (or lightly used) 7" tablet I'd probably favor a nexus 7 (2013) over this one. The nexus 7 has a little more powerful chipset, 2gb RAM, and a higher resolution screen, but if the price is right the g tab isn't so bad. G tab has microSD going for it over the nexus.

New Rom or jump ship ?

hey guys, my LG g3 was just replaced under waranty and i just got a new unit.
Now i am undecided whether to just sell it and jump straight away to the G5 or s7 or whether it´s smarter to stick with it for a little longer.
Also i am wondering what the best custom Rom with ( 6.x) currently is , i have noticed there are a great many available already !

if you can get the new G5 then why not I still have my G3 because I still find it fast and have a pretty sick set up. Plus, with Fulmics ROM and G3 tweaksbox you can change anything! For it being an "old" phone the G3 still holds its ground. But then again you can't beat the new camera and better specs of the G5,hmmmm......
BTW the S7 sucks in my opinion
like what Still_living714 said, if you can get it then definitely go for it. I just jumped from Fulmics to G Plus 2.4 ROM (you should check it out if you're interested in stock lg rom with aosp look). The devs here at xda keeps me satisfied with my G3 and I'm not jumping ship anytime soon

Hmm yeah , i am kind of disapointed in the g5 because they ended the rear mounted audio buttons and i am not 100% convinced of the "modular" nature of the device.
that´s why i was concidering the s7.
but i think i´ll go with the Fulmics rom ^^
Fulmics made my g3 like a new device, really fast and stable. Only reason I switched to a nexus 6p was because the screen was so much brighter, the g3 is awesome in low light situations but poor in any kind of daylight compared to more modern displays.
