LG Gx - same device with jelly bean - Rage - LG Optimus G Pro

i read an article that LG is gonna come out with a new device called LG - Gx wich has the exact same specs as the LG g pro with a little less PPI (401ppi) but with the new jelly bean OS ,
this is more than enough for anyone who has respect for his money to say no in the future to any LG cellular device,
money hungry company who gives a crap and puts even more crap on their costumers over time.

Too early to opine, personaly i take it with a grain of salt......would be surprised that they made a device with the same spec then 2013.....

I'm just hoping it has dev support and we can somehow rip the ROM and run it on the G Pro seeing that most of the hardware is the same.

well it look like I was not right......it seem that lg have made the same phone then the g pro....
http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_gx_goes_official_in_korea_with_55_screen_and_snapdragon_600-news-7375.php
to be honest I don't understand much why the lg x have the same spec then the g pro?? the positive point is that we gonna problably be able to port his newest rom in our g pro.. otherwise it not gonna be in the category of "flagship" especialy in 2014...

Hopefully LG will update the G Pro alongside it when it releases, although it is weird that lg is releasing the same phone with just newer software...

They're saving a fortune on software updates since they never update anything. Probably cheaper to just release another device and hope the public buys it. After all, we bought the OG Pro, didn't we and knew full well that no updates would be released.

We can only hope to port its stock rom onto our phone.
Just read that moto G is already receiving the 4.4 update. And v r still on 4.1.2 :banghead:

I just want my G Pro to have the same vanilla stock kit Kat nexus rom like my n7 and n4 have. This stock LG rom sucks up too much memory.
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda premium

The LGOGP has 2GB RAM, it's more than enough for running it lag free (mine running very smooth). With Android 4.3< things will be even better thanks to the new Trim function. From my experience 98% of the time the best rom for any device is based on its official release.
LG making a mistake in the long run not updating their devices.

[Q] LG Optimus G Series Dev Support

Hi LG guys,
I have general concerns with the amount of dev support that the LG OG series receives. Currently, I am using a Motorola Atrix 4G and I just RECENTLY unlocked the bootloader and rooted it this past weekend and felt a sense of great accomplishment when I completed these tasks after hitting several road blocks. I have to say, I was rather impressed with the amount of relevant information, help, and guides floating around on the Internet a good 1.5 years after its release. I was also impressed with the fact some developers are still working to improve builds.
Unfortunately, I feel a compelled to upgrade my phone since the Atrix 4G does not support LTE. I've been looking at viable options and refuse to go with Apple because I have always loved the Android OS and its possibilities. In fact, I'm even more in love with it now, after being able to put JB on my Atrix.
I did little research and narrowed down my desired upgrade choices to:
Samsung Galaxy S4
LG Optimus G Pro or G2
To be honest, I was set on getting the SGS4 this coming April, however I recently learned that it's likely the S4 will have minimal CM support (if any) and I just can't imagine working with buggy builds for an extended period of time. (I hear the SGS3 still doesn't have a stable CM based build)
So aside from the babble, I was wondering:
1. Is the LG dev community well developed and established? (Might be stupid question to some people, sorry)
2. Does the LG OG line have a stable CM based build?
3. Does LG support the dev community or does it take a Samsung approach (asshole approach) ?
4. How has development and support been for older phones?
5. Does LG commonly make two versions of their flagship phone(s)? [I.E. Samsungs ship with either Snapdragon or Exynos] And which version usually receives a greater amount of developer attention?
6. What's the build quality like on LG OG series? Plastic like Samsung or what? Personal opinions are very welcome.
If anyone else has any info that they feel would further allow me to make a well informed decision, please share it. I know that smartphones are released frequently these days, but I'm still in search for a smartphone that can last me at least 3-5 years (silly I know, but I had a Moto RAZR flip phone forever and loved it). I have yet to find the one ;/
1.The community is given by the users.I guess there is no point in developing for no one, right? So, if there will be many G users, the devs will come too. Right now there a few guys working(thanks for that),but the G(at least the E975 i have) is quite new and it takes time to start things.
2.No, CM is not officially implemented yet.It depends somewhat on 1.
3.Can't really answer that, but,as far as i know, LG is more open to devs than samsung.
4.Why don't you look yourself?Search button is a miracle.
5.No, LG makes only 1 flagship, with differences only in camera, storage and lte modem. There is G with 8mpx,16gb storage+microsd slot and G with 13mpx camera,32gb storage and no micro sd slot. But the CPU/GPU/RAM is identical.
6.G is way better than Samsung's plastics.

I thought about it, but I wanted to get as much feedback as possible.
Personally, if I was going to get any phone right now, I would get the HTC one, with the optimus as my second choice. It will likely have more users and more developers due to greater availability. It has superior specifications, a better screen, better build quality, and supposedly better software. Our phone is great too, just not as new or popular. The glass feels great.

One and optimus are different categories.full hd display vs hd display.compare the one with g pro,s4,xperia z.optimus is top android at medium price.at least here at orange romania, the 975 comes with a super docking station included(LG ND5521).only the dock costs 120 pounds(more than 200 dollars).i payed for my g 300 euros, which a great deal.i could've get the s3 cheaper, but you can't compare them.
I think lg got an unfair bad reputation, since the time lg made phones like chocolate,shine...they were crappy phone, always having issues.but google made the right call and let lg make the nexus4.
Basically,our g is an improved n

I think you should include in your basket HTC ONE (M7) and Xperia Z.
Apart of that.
1. Is the LG dev community well developed and established? (Might be stupid question to some people, sorry) (Not yet, there is a few phones on the market, maybe in the future - People dont like LG, )
2. Does the LG OG line have a stable CM based build? (Not yet, but it will)
3. Does LG support the dev community or does it take a Samsung approach (asshole approach) ? (Neither of them does, but LG seems to be more open about it)
4. How has development and support been for older phones? (Its a market dependent, so, if your phone have been sold a lot, it'll be supported here in XDA, if not, dont expect too much from LG)
5. Does LG commonly make two versions of their flagship phone(s)? [I.E. Samsungs ship with either Snapdragon or Exynos] And which version usually receives a greater amount of developer attention? (LGOG has a lot of model, but basicaly they are pretty much the same, all of them has same processor and screen)
6. What's the build quality like on LG OG series? Plastic like Samsung or what? Personal opinions are very welcome. (My girl has a SGS3 and I'm used to handling it, LG for sure has better built material)
cheers

I wont answer all of your questions individually but If I was to buy a phone in the next months, I would go for Sony Xperia ZL. Sony was named OEM of the year for developper support by XDA staff. They have a decent track report of supporting 2011 onward phones.
I also came from a Atrix. It died from the infamous wifi-bootloop-bug-of-death. The LG Optimus G Pro is a Phablet and it might be too large for you. The S4 will likelly get poor developper support since most Cyanogen staff lifted their nose at it.
As of now, the Optimus G dev community is ok but since the phone have yet to be released in Europe, Not many people are working on it. There also is lots different versions of the same phone with some incompatibility. We have CM for the Canadian version but it's not official. Far from it.
Good luck
As some owners says, the new xperia good on paper and terrible in life.
Crappy screen, performance, battery life, a lot of bugs including auto bricks.

It's time to say good bye to OGP...

It has been a wonderful experience with my OGP for last 8 months.. had bought it via Ebay from US.. TBH one of the best hardwares I used... Enjoyed flashing roms, luckily didn't have much bricks.. .. I'm gonna gift this one to my brother in New Zealand.. I'm not sure if I'll come back to LG again.. but being my first LG phone, it was a great overall (Except battery) experience.. I'll really miss my OGP.. Thanks to all the devs here...

http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2014/10/android-be-together-not-same.html - i hope magicans from XDA are going to port it or smth - its almost same device as Nexus 4 IMO.
It means we should have better port's for our G.
Don't expect an update from LG because that isn't happening.

You didn't but I also wasn't being rude writing that.
Writing can't express many things.
Sorry if i sounded rude by saying that ?
Easy man
From now on, our beloved optimus g, has died with android KitKat, now the life of this device depends on the developers, I have a feeling that the community optimus g will be more active from android lollipop output, this device will still is much war, as their specifications in my opinion are excellent even for these dates.
Long live optimus G
Sorry my bad english.
I mean, if someone does multi device rom port for Nexus 4, it shouldn't be hard to port it to Optimus G as it is almost same device. I even saw tutorial that changed your Optimus to Nexus, but idk if it is still working, maybe i'm wrong
I'm almost sure that all Optimus G variants will get working Lollipop ROMs all within due time.
From what I'd seen I actually don't doubt of it getting an official update around next year. Tho i bet that if it happens, it'll have less features of LG software than a g2 mini.
LG would show how different they are if they St least help officially with a aosp project as Sony does often.
I can dream, right? Lmao
Heeeeeeeeey, We don't need to port anything. Devs can build it from source. Kernel wise good efforts by devs are in action now. Don't worry. We've always been a step forward and we will be. N4 sucks
I am not expecting any official update coming for e975 from lg for Android L. However relying on xda developers to port nexus 4 build for gee like they did for preview release.
Thanks
If Nexus 4 are getting it.
There must be a way to port it Optimus G.

seems no one is excited by the output of Android Lollipop like me, usually in the release of a new version of android, all developers are put to work to carry the latest version of android, I know that developers are human, and have their own life, but it seems that the community of this device is dying, yes, we have many roms and very good developers, but as there is no such feeling of excitement for having "the most updated".
I do not know about android development at all, that is the reason of why I have not done my own port of Android Lollipop.
Sorry if I sound angry, but it's not lol, it's just my opinion.
And I apologize for my English, my knowledge is very basic

Heeey, devs are working on it. Don't worry. The great Dirty Unicorns team is one of them. And maybe having a ported preview build ceased our excitement. If you see other communities are too excited that's because they've never had the luck to try lollipop.

Help me decide LG G4 vs Oneplus 2

Hey guys,
I need to decide between the LG G4 and the Oneplus 2. I really like the expandable memory and battery life of the G4, but the Oneplus has a great processor and lots of development. So I'm interested to know what you like and don't like about the G4. What should I know about the phone in considering it? There isn't much ROM or Kernel development from what I see here, how do you like what is available? How easy is it to root compared to Samsung, HTC, and Oneplus? How customizable is it? Can you simply OV/UC?
Any feedback is appreciated!
I had the same choice has you. I choosed G4 two weeks ago for a lot of reasons. (I had a Note4)
Problem : Touch default which will be correct in the next update
I prefer G4 against Oneplus2 for : Expandable memory, battery removable, more stable CPU/GPU, great screen, great photos/videos. Good battery.
I haven't root the phone actually, but I have downloaded the bootloader unlocker key on LG website. In fact root seems very easy.
Root is pretty simple and with an unlockable bootloader coming for most if not all variants the g4 development will be booming soon...i love the camera and the overall smoothness of my g4 and plan on keeping it for a long while

Unlockable bootloader...usually draws devs as a workaround is not needed to install custom roms/kernels...also root is an easy process...also i owned the original optimus g the g2 g3 and all had great developement...i will probably be an lg mobile buyer for life...plus an unlocked bootloader on such a powerful device just screams for attention
I highly doubt there'll be much development for the g4. And obviously there'll be way more for the op2. So if you buy a phone to flash roms all day long I think the decision is simple. For me the g4 with root and Xposed is perfect. I wouldn't flash anything else than stock on it if I got payed for it.

That's great, for now. But when Lg stops supporting the G4 in about a year, I'd like there to be continued dev.
Additionally, there are things I'd like to tweak to make the phone more suited for my use (gov/io, clock speed, processor voltage, wifi seek interval, etc) that I dont think I can do with xposed or with stock.
How much customizability is there with lg stock? What about the Kernels already available?

I'm happy leaving voltages etc alone. It works great as it is for me. Maybe check the dev section for progress but sounds like one plus 2 might suit you better.

I got a private message that really helped me a lot from Zilol. I'm posting it here for others who may be considering the same thing, with Zilol's permission of course
I would choose the G4 if it was overall experience and stability. But root and everything about KDZ is horrible if u are used to nexus-like devices, the G4 is way more trouble and all about being careful and a lot of more work as well. TWRP got erased and if u boot into recovery (stock), it automatically does a factory reset with wiping media too (I didnt know neither of those 2 factors) and I lost my internal storage. I was so mad, I gave the 1+2 a shot. Well, compared to the G4 the 1+2 feels like a unfinished buisness. The battery life isnt really above average. I would guess the SD810 to be the culprit but thats not the case. Its something about standby time, not OST but I guess that could be fixed by a software update. OxygenOS feels like an unfinished buisness, lacking several important features and a certain degree of stability. When I updated to 2.0.2, I lost the search bar in "recents" and "clear all apps" was gone as well, which just makes no sense, since u dont have an option to activate it, at least I didnt found it. The next thing is camera. On short distance its fine and compareable to the G4 but under low lights its another story. the photos arent as sharp as on the G4 when zoomed in but that could be the difference in megapixel count. but the biggest problem (just discovered like 2 mins ago) its just bad when it comes to distance shots. Because the infinite focus doesnt seem to work. When I manually focus, there is a short period where its sharp but when the focus is fixated its not sharp at all. I like in the 27th floor with a whole city to my feet and the picture quality differences speaks for themselves, especially at low light. otherwise the 1+2 cam is fine but not to take picture in the distance properly is an issue, maybe it will get fixed through an update.
I recommend the G4. I like stock android but in my opinion the LG UX was good to go. Its really not that much of a big deal. The cam is great, the battery life fair and u can swap battery and expand storage. The 1+2 does better at flashing and u dont loose warranty through BL unlock, only time will tell. Once they fix fingerprint for CM roms or until M is out and FP becomes native, I cant recommend 1+2 over G4. Or atleast they have to update oxygenos bc the current state is problematic, maybe CM roms are better but right now they lack laser-autofocus and fingerprint so thats a no-go for me. On the other hand OOS 2.1 will be out by the mid of the month, so maybe its worth the wait since its a 2.1 bigger update. Im positive 1+ will give their best but at the end of the day only real life performance counts even if they put much effort in it.
When it comes to build quali I prefer the 1+2 over the G4. The leather back is awesome but the chrome finish on the sides isnt my thing. both feel really good in the hand tho but the alu sides of the 1+2 makes it feel more premium. If u choose the 1+2 btw, be aware of the style swap covers. I bought it in china in the experience store, so Im talking about oem accessories. I bought the rosewood and kevlar back but they are thicker and make the phone more bulky. The standard sandstone covers finishes with the alu sides but the others stand out a little bit. Could be an aestethic problem.

And I love LG because I never won a phone b4. They gave me a brand LG G4 H815 for Trial and to keep.
@shiboby
And I just brought a G Flex 2 H959 FLAMINGOS RED SD810 run great with the latest LG firmware 5.1.1. No overheating or lagging whatsoever issue. A great phone with a good price now. This also the one you should consider.

G4 camera ? better G Flex 2 and no swappable battery. But love the curved OLED of G Flex 2 and SD810.

cm13

Why not have cm 13 for lg gpro ??????
That´s the reason why my next phone will definitely be a Nexus...
Because our Cyanogenmod maintainer has not updated our phone's kernel (probably missing) and we don't have info on what google_msm kernel/CAF kernel repos or anything we need to update to MM..

There is Marshmallow for LG Optimus G (E975). Also there is Android 6 for Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One (M7) both on Snapdragon 600 so why not for our Optimus G Pro? Is there any hope for our phones?

I don't want to float anyone's boat, but E975 is much widely used... and is basically Nexus 4, so they use everything from there. S4 and M7 are much much more popular than this damn device, so yeah... that's pretty much why
I'm working on 6.0 bringup, but I have issues - not only from software side, but from hardware side too: my battery is slowly dying (and I can't find proper replacement), and looks like my usb board (or connector, let's hope its connector) died this morning, I can't do anything but charge it with all four cables I have and thats it... no serial connection means no data transfer, no adb access, no logs. It basically renders phone useless for any work.
I'm kind of sick of this phone, so I'm not sure I'll even keep this phone anymore... so my efforts towards M bringup are halted for undetermined period.

This phone is at the end of it's development life. We had a good run while it lasted. I ordered a Nexus 6 this week and will be moving on shortly. I'm keeping the E980 as a backup so I'll still try to tinker around with it but for daily use it is time to move on.

Why? I bought my G Pro last year for 240 euro brand new . Its in perfectly good condition, I don't see any reason to replace it . Screen is still fantastic, it has good enough performance, battery life is good - I menage to use it for 2-2,5 day.

While that is great you enjoy your device, the only reason we have custom ROMs on this device in first place is basically a complete hack, and also we have gotten no support from LG at all. All of this combined makes for a very unsatisfactory reputation for this device and hence why development is no longer very active and I do not expect it to pick up activity any time soon or ever (I could bbe be mistaken but this is just my opinion).
Yes, so sad for gpro
So, do you think the same level of support as the G Pro (i.e. minimal to non existent) can be expected on the V10?

Maybe not even that, because OEMs are getting really good about locking bootloaders and such nowadays.
Well as an owner of an E986 for about 2years 9 months and using it a lot of time every day I can confirm that this device is a beast, good performance, good battery,quality... and its like I bought it yesterday! Its so sad seeing G Pro slowly dying... I really hope it will be lucky with cm13
There might be a vietnamese marshmallow/6.0 project. @duongthinh441 mentioned it.
