I'm trying to upgrade the G3 from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1. I couldn't find a stock image to download and flash. If there is one could someone point it out for me?
Anyways, I was going to update via OTA instead and removed SU, however I'm guessing because TWRP is still installed it failed. How can I get back to stock recovery to flash the OTA so that I can re-root afterwards?

That thread is for 5.0.1 (20E). Would also like to know if 5.1.1 is coming to the G3 as well.

Looks like we may be skipped for 5.1.1 and go right to Android M -

You asked how to go back to a stock image w/ stock recovery... the link mitbit2k3 linked you to has the directions for doing so (20e is the latest version T-Mobile has released). And you never want do take an OTA update w/ a custom recovery like TWRP installed.

I have the same notice and I'm wondering the same thing. I've rooted using Stumproot and have TWRP, but have not installed any custom ROM as yet. Been using the LG skinning of Android and seeing if it works for me over the long term or not.
So - is this the L update? Will this blow up my phone if I try it? Normally I know not to take OTA updates if I'm rooted, but there's a chance it may just run since it's the stock ROM, but just rooted.
You will lose root of course.
If you have TWRP you will not be able to install this update of course.
There should be something more written, not just system update. What version it says?

That is normal what happened.
You have to downgrade now and then root it.
What version it says you have now after the update?
Xposed 2.6.1
Android 4.4.2
So I need to unroot and then do it again?
Okay, could you eplain more detail.
If you have xposed installed that means you are rooted.

Did the update install? If you go to settings / about phone / software information, what does it show for Software Version?
Do root apps, like G3 TweaksBox, still work?

No, this is not Lollipop.
If you have the stock recovery (not TWRP), and haven't deleted ANY of the factory installed apps, the OTA might work. But even if it does it will break root, and leave you with a phone that is, at present, unrootable.

It's an update that contains bug fixes, performance improvements, and security updates. It's still KitKat 4.4.2.

I updated my sprint lgg3 (from ls990zv4 to zv6... That's the OTA update) and lost my root permissions. The Super SU (by chainfire) cannot find it's binary or something like that.
You may want to hold off until someone figures out an easy fix. The alternative is to unroot (refresh to stock) then do all the updates, then root.
Hoping someone on the forum can help me out. First off let me state what I'm working with:
LG G2 LS980 (Sprint)
Rooted
Using OptimusG3 V1.0 ROM
4.4.2 KitKat
Basedband: unknown
Kernel 3.4.0
Build number: KOT49I.LS980
I am a complete newbie to rooting and flashing ROMS, but I have done some homework to have a basic idea of what to do since my phone is already flashable and running a custom ROM now. (I bought the phone pre-rooted and flashed)
I would like to switch ROMS to one that is based on Lollipop and have download several different ROMS specific for the LS980, but everytime I attempt to flash one, it begins to read the ZIP file and then shortly afterwards it just fails the install and leaves my phone in the SOFT-Brick mode with the LG start screen.
I was smart enough to make a backup of my phone with TWRP so I have been restoring my phone everytime. But I want to figure out what's going on so I can flash a new ROM onto my G2. I have tried going to all the how-to forums and nothing seems to work. I know I am missing something or some step because I have the OptimusG3 ROM going, so I know I have most if not all of what I need to flash another ROM. I've used Flashify, ROM Manager, and just plain using TWRP to go into recovery and pick out the zip fill from there and flash (with the right gApps zip) and all ROMS get about 5% installed and then fail. Each time I wipe Davalik, Data, and Cache. Only thing I have never done is format, just because I fear to erase everything including my ROMS and backups. (all ROMS I dl are for the ls980 specifically)
What step am I missing or doing wrong that no new ROM will flash?

Your boot loader is fine. Which version of TWRP are you using? And lollipop Roms are aosp or cm based so they need zv8 radio.
If your using two 2.7 you will need to update to a more recent version. Blastorgator (sp) has a TWRP that is bumped and Loki for all your goodness. It is at least 2.8 something.

I tried updating my TWRP as you suggested and unfortunately I went from not being able to flash ROMS to soft-bricking the phone. Now trying to boot the phone I get the LG Security Error fast load screen. Somehow the twrp upgrade didn't take and has triggered the Security Error. I can boot into Recovery and TWRP, but trying to flash a ROM or restore my backup does not get rid of the error. Per other posts I tried using the LG Mobile Support Tool to get a stock ROM on there, but no go the Tool says my phone is up to date and does nothing.
Tried re-flashing the TWRP upgrade and it claimed successful and for one reboot it was at 2.8.6.x. Tried flashing my ROMS and backup and no go again. Then strangely enough TWRP rebooted and was back to ver 2.7. Once more I'm at a loss of what to do to recover from the soft-brick. HELP!!!

Well I found instructions on how to go back to stock. As a flashing newb, do I need to re-root the device? Re-install SuperSU? What do I do next to get back into the flashing game? (on a side note, my phone was unlocked and I was using it with MetroPCS, how do I get it back to recognizing MetroPCS? It now claims there is no SIM card)

Yes, so if your on zve or less stump root should work no problem for you.
If you are of zvg then you need the one click root process.
After root in sprint development, there is an unlock thread.
Follow directions and it should get you back to working mode.

If you want to go to lollipop, do not root out do anything else but leave it stock before you upgrade to lollipop.
You should .tot back to ZVE (and ZV8 radio), sideload the ZVG update, re-root, and do the SIM unlock found here (looks like that works).

First off, thanks for your continued help. Since I do want to go to Lollipop, preferably a custom ROM like Revolution Remix or Cyanogenmod, how would I do that without rooting first?
I am on stock still with ZV8, but I had already rooted it with IOroot before reading your reply. I could start all over with reflashing stock if that is best.

I've heard different things with the new builds. But last known and working use auto-rec KitKat. Not the lollipop version.
This will get you a recovery installed. Since you are zv8, you should be good. Just update the TWRP version to the newer build. There is a thread in g2 development. Can't remember if it is original or android of the g2. But I'll find it and post the link with an edit.
Then flash the lollipop cm or aosp based ROM. Don't forget your Google apps.
They are on 5.1 based.

go to the sprint forum and OMJ has a thread there with everything you need. the latest fitrmware is 2.6.651.11
You'd need to follow a guide to return to stock, accept OTA updates to most recent version, then unlock bootloader, s-off, etc again.
Next, make sure you set your wireless data settings to global, etc before installing a new rom.
There are guides to do it without returning to stock, but it's the safest way I know of.

hello i have a question im sick of the terrible battery life on my note 4 ever since i did the mm update i have bad lbattery life i have tried batterys factory reset and its still the same so i want to downgrade to kit kat im completly stock no root or anything is there anyway to do this if so can u give me step by step and how to ?? im not very computer ilerterate so the simplest and most effective way would be great thank you
search how to use a program called Odin to install kit Kat. searching both these forums and Google, and even YouTube, will yield a lot of results
Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
Hello there
Since you posted under Verizon Note 4 The link below provides all the firmware for Verizon Note 4. The instructions are there as well. However, it is best if before hand you research odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2942937
question what version of odin do i use the one for marshmellow or the one for kit katt or bolth?
another question how do i get the system update notification off after i do the downgrade is there a way without rooting?? ive looked online theres not much out there if someone could send me some links on the whole procedure from downgrading to what backup u used to store everything and how to get rid of the notifications would be greatly helpfull
ANYONE??
Well first off you can't downgrade. Straight from mm with a locked bootloader. You have to unlock your bootloader first. There are methods. Do not know about unlocking it on mm with out having it unlocked before from LP. I too wanted kitkat. If you proceed and unlock the bootloader you can downgrade to LP bootloader and then proceed to unlock the LP bootloader after that install twrp and I'll send a link on a post I made how to install kitkat on 5.1.1 bootloader.

Download this file flash it with odin. You will be on lollipop but a mm bootloader. It is root able and after you unlock the bootloader you flash the 5.1.1 full firmware you can find in one of he posts someone up above sent. After that proceed again to root and unlock bootloader.

This link is how to upgrade and unlock mm bootloader. Just flash the file with odin I sent before this post and follow instructions on how to root and unlock.

Yep. And you need the bootloader unlocked (root is pretty pointless if u cant unlocked the bootloader)
I was rooting my S9 (G960F) but even after format data, the error would not go away.
I've tried to flash nemesis kernel too in case it would be to blame, and did not forget oem unlock, dm verity or oem patch too.
Anyone having the solution to this?
Or please link a guide which worked for you.
Thanks!
Are you running the stock rom? Did you root via Odin first?
yes, i am running the stock rom, this message appeared immediately after flashing the twrp from odin.
i don't get what you mean by asking if i rooted the phone from odin before it, the only way of rooting i knew was to flash twrp and then supersu zip along with dm verity, oem patch etc.

I do not recommend Magisk at this point. The phone will bootloop. Only unofficial version is working. For that you can use this thread. And at some point if you update it, it will go into bootloop as well.
Its better to stick with SuperSU (V2.82 and Above) for now.

I think i flashed the latest one, which was 3.2.1-1 from official website, is there a newer one available?
If so, please share the link
I had those errors but the process continued seemingly ok.

however now the phone constantly freezes on AOD....
thinking of switching to superSU till magisk stabilizes
any suggestions?
