I have the same notice and I'm wondering the same thing. I've rooted using Stumproot and have TWRP, but have not installed any custom ROM as yet. Been using the LG skinning of Android and seeing if it works for me over the long term or not.
So - is this the L update? Will this blow up my phone if I try it? Normally I know not to take OTA updates if I'm rooted, but there's a chance it may just run since it's the stock ROM, but just rooted.
You will lose root of course.
If you have TWRP you will not be able to install this update of course.
There should be something more written, not just system update. What version it says?

same thing on my coworkers phone. trying to figure out what this update is.
Theres been discussion in Sprint forums
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/general/g3-update-t2964969
I installed the update and restarted my phone. Now I am unable to update the framework and my phone reverted back to crappy stock. Will I be able to re-root and get my customization back?

That is normal what happened.
You have to downgrade now and then root it.
What version it says you have now after the update?
Xposed 2.6.1
Android 4.4.2
So I need to unroot and then do it again?
Okay, could you eplain more detail.
If you have xposed installed that means you are rooted.

Did the update install? If you go to settings / about phone / software information, what does it show for Software Version?
Do root apps, like G3 TweaksBox, still work?

No, this is not Lollipop.
If you have the stock recovery (not TWRP), and haven't deleted ANY of the factory installed apps, the OTA might work. But even if it does it will break root, and leave you with a phone that is, at present, unrootable.

It's an update that contains bug fixes, performance improvements, and security updates. It's still KitKat 4.4.2.

I updated my sprint lgg3 (from ls990zv4 to zv6... That's the OTA update) and lost my root permissions. The Super SU (by chainfire) cannot find it's binary or something like that.
You may want to hold off until someone figures out an easy fix. The alternative is to unroot (refresh to stock) then do all the updates, then root.

I got the update and it is downloaded b/c I see it in the recovery mode. I scroll down to install update, but it will not work.
My phone is rooted, I have CWM, and it is unlocked. How can I get my update completed? I really want to keep stock right now. I don't want to keep checking up on updated ROM's , etc...
Thanks so much. Please - if you respond, break it down easy. step by step. That is what I need. Basics. thanks.

Assumption is the mother of all **** ups...so i assumed that if you are rooted the most common thing is that you have CWM installed...
So how do I get there from here? Do I need to uninstall something and then do the update??
Thanks for the help.

Ok, I can try that. How do I do that? I am not sure I am familiar with fastboot. I can follow step by step instructions though.
Did you try the instructions on this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419170&highlight=ota+update
You seem to have the same set up as I do. I've just updated no problem with method 1.
The only instruction missing is that you have to re-root afterwards (you can check with Titanium).
When re-rooting, it got stuck on the Google image. I disconnected from the computer and pulled the battery out. restarted and voilá, all done

As I'm sure you all have read the post above this one, neither CWM nor root prevent you from receiving the OTA update. CWM, however, will prevent it from automatically installing, but CWM can easily install the OTA. See link in post above.

Yes, but if you flash the latest images, you will lose all your data...
I tried doing it via CWM. It was aborted. I just went ahead and uploaded a ROM. The Android Revolution HD one. I kinda gave up trying to do the OTA myself. Thanks for hte help anyway.

I have had my OTA update fail repeatedly when phone was rooted but I think it was because I had removed some AT&T crapware apps, I had to reinstall to get my update.

Oh I forgot to mention I was able to keep my root status after doing an OTA update, I used the OTA rootkeeper App from the playstore and it worked AWESOME....although others have indicated that the App didn't work for them but can't hurt to try it
I rooted with towel root. Knox still shows 0x0. If I check of updates to the OS, I says my has changed and there are no updates. How can i reenable updates? Eventually, I'll install CM or something, but for now i want to install the latest.
I've had a few random reboots. They seem to be warm boots, because my uptime doesn't reset. I want to see if an updates fixes this problem. Other than this, eveeything has been great.
Cheers,
Rich
Ok, I did the following:
- unrooted (with SuperSu)
- did a factory reset
- rooted with towel root (again)
- ran SuperSu and left knox running
- reinstalled apps with TB
Everything now looks good. The "Check Update" no longer complains. I want to run this way for a little while. Will install CM in the future.
Cheers,
Rich

So you were able to take the latest OTA and you still have root and a custom recovery, and your Knox flag is still 0?

There was no OTA. So, still waiting to see what happens there. My knox is still 0x0 as i did not install a custom recovery. Towel root does not trip knox.
I'm on rooted stock. Knox is still running. I did not disable it with SuperSu. So far, no random reboots (10 hours)… very stable.
I will install a custom recovery and CM at some point in the future. I want to keep my warrenty intact for a while. I bought this tablet last weekend. I like it.
Cheers,
Rich

Gotcha. So what is your build number (from Settings/About device)?
Mine came with NAI installed. I don't know yet what build number it is going to install when I let it apply the OTA.

Are you on a UK device? If so, I see from sammobile.com that the latest NF3 was released. You can download it and flash with odin. It will unroot, so you will have to re-root. I believe as long as you don't flash a custom recovery, the warranty flag will stay at 0x0. That way you don't have to wait for the ota update.
I'm trying to upgrade the G3 from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1. I couldn't find a stock image to download and flash. If there is one could someone point it out for me?
Anyways, I was going to update via OTA instead and removed SU, however I'm guessing because TWRP is still installed it failed. How can I get back to stock recovery to flash the OTA so that I can re-root afterwards?

That thread is for 5.0.1 (20E). Would also like to know if 5.1.1 is coming to the G3 as well.

Looks like we may be skipped for 5.1.1 and go right to Android M -

You asked how to go back to a stock image w/ stock recovery... the link mitbit2k3 linked you to has the directions for doing so (20e is the latest version T-Mobile has released). And you never want do take an OTA update w/ a custom recovery like TWRP installed.
Hey,
I just got my 10 and loving it. I'm Locked and S-OFF with Sunshine running rooted stock.
I have a few questions:
- Will I still be getting OTAs notifications even though I modified system so I won't be able to install them?
- I have a TWRP backup from before modifying /system. What do I need to do in order to be able to install the update? Restore system and install through OTA? Do I need to restore the original recovery? Where do I get it? What's the best way to install updates?
- If I install Magisk, SU Hide and Systemless Xposed, will I be able to install OTAs without any issues?
Now an unrelated question:
- How do I get back to S-ON?
Thank you so much.
I have a unlocked HTC 10 running software version 1.95.401.4 Android 6.0..1 but I'm concerned why its running August 1 security update till now? It's almost end of October any one else with the same thing pls reply and help. The OTA says phone is up to date no new updates available.

Do you happen to know the answer to questions 1, 3 and 4?
1) Yes you should still get the notification and probably even download it, but not install it.

going back s-on is not recommended...but its possible:
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
Why isn't it recommended btw?
And I have another question too.
If I decide to debrand my phone, I do I get back to my original CID?

Not sure I understand the last question, but you change your CID the same way you initially changed it while being s-off
That makes sense (facepalm). Thanks!
