Hi,
I have a G4 H815T (Hong Kong).
I have been using my Westone UM2 earphone with my last phone (Note 3 and Note Edge) for quite a while and everything was fine.
When I use that earphone in G4, I find listening to music and watching clips are fine, but the phone call and skype/facebook calls are very laggy.
It seems that the earphone is heavily cancelling the background sound of the call, but it went too far which makes the call really choppy.
Is there any way to correct this problem?
Thank you for your help.
Edmund
P.S.
I have tried my earphone with other android devices (Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2) and it worked out fine.
Can anyone help?

Is noise suppression on and/or voice clarity? Have you tried turning them off and checking to see if it works? How are he UM2's. I have the W40's and love it.

Go to your settings, under wireless network, go to calls, then under ongoing calls, there should be the options for noise suppression, and voice clarity. Try turning them on or off and see if it makes a difference.

LG-D855 here on UK Orange (EE) network. I get quite bad noise on voice calls. I think I am clear to the other party but I can hear a bad static sound whenever they talk, it is quite irritating.
Call quality is clear on bluetooth, and and when on loud speaker, it only happens when using the normal internal speaker.
Has anyone else experienced this? Since it is not present across all speaker modes I think it is not a network issue and more likely hardware - I am wondering if I have a faulty handset?

Thanks that is useful. I wondered if it was an EE issue as I had problems with their hd voice codec on a different android handset. But I have just done a lot of testing and it definitely is only when on the normal internal speaker, which really makes me think it is a hardware fault.
Will phone CPW and get it swapped.
Uh, how to unroot?
I'm on 3 and the call quality is excellent, I can now use the phone in places where I couldn't with my s3

Don't worry about it there not going to know about if it's rooted just uninstall supersu or superuser which ever you have
Mine has had good call quality on the hd voice codec, but it drops to a lower codec really quickly during a call, not sure why. and that seams to have a little static. Cant remember if this was what calls were normally like on my old phone though.

Hmmmm. I tested again today and the noise is all gone: calls are crystal clear. I really don't understand what is going on, or whether it is software or hardware related.
I suppose it is best to swap it out before I have had it for too long, just in case?

Useful, thanks.
I have the same issue but only on GSM calls. Weirdly whe. I use Skype the calls are crystal clear which therefore eliminates hardware issue unless it's the GSM attend interfering with the earpiece.
Any ideas what I should do?

I don't think you can. The operator will alter it according to signal conditions AFAIK.
Just to complete this thread: I have swapped the phone at CPW under their 28 day guarantee and so far the new handset doesn't exhibit this problem. Will update in a few days time.

You dont. Its automatically selected by the network/phone. Mine seams to start off with clear sound then quickly drops to a lower quality and never recovers for that call.

I had the same issue in Slovenia, I changed phone for new one, but the problem is still here. I find out that I hear that noise only when phone is on 2G/GSM.When I switch to 3G/WCDMA only the sound is perfect, also when I use Skype. Did you try to switch on 3G/WCDMA only?
Yeh I tried switching but same issue. I exchange thr phone, no problem with the new one
Hi all, I have a similar problem but the other way around, people that I call hear a lot of static, but ONLY if I am powering the phone. If I connect the phone to a USB port of my PC there is static too, but less. BTW I call using a wired headset.
Other problem, the LG stock headset muffles my voice and people can't hear me well, I had to use a Samsung headset.
Last problem, when I make calls without headset I hear in the phone the sound that you get when placing a phone next to a speaker...
Does anybody have similar problems?
Needless to say I am very disappointed.
BTW, no audio hissing when playing music via Spotify

I have the exact same problem. Have you found a way to solve this? The problem only occurs when I use a wired headset and plug in my charger. No charger plugged in, no noise as per the person on the other end of the call.
kentii, I bought a wireless charger to charge my phone, in which case the problem doesn't appear. I also bought a bluetooth dongle for my desktop to replace the USB connection. I spend a lot of time on the phone and like using a wired headset. I use MyPhoneExplorer to dial from my PC
Recently I have been getting very bad sound when calling someone.
I can hear the callee perfectly but they can barely hear me, I sound like a 'fish in the water' or with a very big 'echo'.
This has been the case after updating to Lollipop.

I Am Assuming you are using Stock Lollipop FW from Sony
Head to Settings>Call
Enable Microphone Noise Suppression, Set the Equalizer to Bright and enable the Speaker Voice Enhancement
Also make sure you are on Max Volume when In-calls

Nope, I only tried the solution suggested above, I have yet to encounter the problem again.
I just tried same thing with equalizer. I will see if this will work. @Devenda, any news since 2 days ago?

Nope, still stable, I tested it but the audio was clear.
Problem is that this issue comes and go's randomly, so all I can do at this moment is wait...
None of the suggestions described worked for me. This bugged me so much I was forced to run to RR rom.. Problem solved but I miss Sony's great battery life ??
I have the same problem.
Only the equaliser was different (normal), I've changed it to bright and will see.
Don't you think it is a problem with radio reception ? I'm not sure but I think I have not the same number of bars than before. I haven't got an other 4G phone to compare.
Equaliser doesn't work for me.
I have changed prefered network, it was 4g prefered. I've changed to 3g. It seems to be working.
Can somebody try ?
I solved my problem during the calls when i unchecked the improvement of voice
If you have tried all the other options and still not working but you have v4a sound mod installed, this might help - http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/help/viper4android-deactivates-mic-t3124764
I had same problem after update to lollipop and try everything mentioned before and nothing helped. Then I low down speaker volume ( volume key down) while call is active and that worked for me. I suppose that lollipop have some problem with duplexer. Level of sound in speaker is litle low but at least caller can understand me normally.

Greetings, I hope you are fine.
I'll just let you know my experience with that, I had a similar one to yours. Instead my voice was stuttering and ghostly, like something came out of Paranormal activities. xD
The only solution I found to this was that it was a problem with the hardware itself, IE. the mic of your phone. Maybe you wanna give your phone to the warranty company and see what they say about it. In my case, they fixed it and it's working fine now.
I hope I helped
Yours.
Is anyone having a problem with their bluetooth where it will connect and work just fine playing music, but doesn't work good when talking on the phone? I am running stock rooted rom with EX kernal if that helps. Music plays flawlessly, but calls sound like there is bad static, almost like the call is about to drop, but I have full service and it does it everytime. It didn't do this when I first got it and I'm wondering if anyone knows a fix for this.

I am mostly using bluetooth headset for calls and have not had any issues with the call quality.
1) When via bluetooth the quality of a call is bad, then turning it off during call, makes the sound better?
2) What is your carrier?
3) Do you have VoLTE enabled or as soon as you start a call, the LTE drops to H/3G?

1. Yes. If I switch it over to the phone itself the quality gets better.
2. Sprint
3. I don't have it enabled. How would I do that?

I have VoLTE, but I am on T-Mobile. For the past couple of days I have been hearing some noise while talking on the phone, but it was there regardless of using bluetooth headset or not. Maybe T-Mobile was doing something to network, but now the noise is gone. Don't know if Sprint has that. Do you have in settings>more>cellular - menu item/switch named "Enhanced 4G LTE..."?
You may have to get a new Bluetooth device I had this issue with the lg tone hbs- 730 on my n5x then it died so I had to buy a new one and I bought the lg tone hbs-800 and its just fine.also u may want to try and reset your Bluetooth device that's solved this issue for me in th e past

I keep having phone calls where I can't hear the other person and vice versa. Seems to be related to my Bluetooth connection to a Gear S3 as disabling Bluetooth usually fixes it (but then sometimes it randomly sides itself with Bluetooth on and I haven't done detailed testing).
I'm on Fi, but have been for awhile and never had this problem with my previous phone... I am using the software sim.
Anyone else experiencing similar, or know anything about it?

It's off. I should add, there's not even the sound of the ring, just dead silence and the timer starts, then eventually a disconnect. That's making me think the audio is being sent somewhere besides the speaker (even though the icon says speaker).

I get that to from time to time. It's as if the audio is routed to my watch but nothing actually comes out of the watch.

If your not connected to anything (Bluetooth) and the volumes are maxed out and you have nothing, it's RMA time. Have you tried the good ol' factory reset? Last resort

I legit have the EXACT same issues. I also have a Gear S3. It only happens the first time I call, and then, if I hang up and call the number right back, it's a normal phone call. Have you figured out a fix yet? It's really a nuisance. Thanks in advance!

I am having issue with my LG G7 ThinQ, whenever I made or received a phone calls the person who is talking to me is hardly hears my voice but if I change it to loudspeaker the voice is very clear and when I'm calling using the whatsapp calls there would be no problem with my voice at all wheter I am using the loudspeaker or not. I wondering there must be a problem with the software or hardware? Does anybody can help me with this problem?
Happened the same to me. I contacted LG customer service and they changed the microphone with no charge because the device was in warranty.
I also had this problem, others complaining that can not hear me good. For me the fix was disabling in call settings the noise suppression and voi e clarity. ?

Yes it did.
I'm facing similar issue. How can I disable noise suppression and voice clarity? Couldn't find it in the settings. I'm using Verizon device with the latest updates.
I thought that my upper mic is dead at first. But then I tested video recording and both mics are working fine. So it seems like it's a software issue?

You just saved me £200. I just bought this phone new from a mate and I thought he f*cked me over and was about to throw it and buy a new phone, because I had tried everything from new ROMs for different regions to screaming at it.
Did what you said, and now people can hear me properly.
Noise suppression on this phone is taking its job too seriously.
I bought 2x of these phones with a tmobile deal. They both suffer the same fate. You have to hold the phone at a perfect angle to your mouth to get it to pick you up. I assume its made this way to eliminate any background noise. I didn't know of the suppression and clarity settings and now that I tested them, I can hold the phone upside down on my ear and the other party can hear me.
It was probably a good idea on paper for this design/feature but it was very frustrating having to correct the angle of my phone to get my voice to work properly.
