I have searched through here and I have not seen any definitive answers about getting better battery life. I left my house this morning. Did noting with the phone except take off charger. Drove 40 mins with phone in pocket and checked it and battery was down to 90%. I never lost that much on KitKat.
What can I do to fix that? I used my phone throughout the day doing Twitter some snapchat and some surfing. 10hrs after leaving my house the phone was down to 30%. I made no phone calls. I did stream video for about 10 mins
When you updated to LP, did you factory reset?
Also, do you have a removable SD card in?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
Didn't Factory Reset the device when the update came through. I do have an SD card.
More often than not, those reporting bad batter life after the LP update solved the problem after a factory reset. I would recommend doing this from the settings menu (not the recovery menu) and erase everything on the phone. Just make sure you back up everything first.

Well my phone was plugged in charging while I did the reset and setup. It's showing 93% right now. That is plugged into the wall or the computer. No idea about this. Can I go back to KitKat and not upgrade to Lollipop till they fix it. I see no benefits to Lollipop over KitKat.
There are threads on here explaining how to downgrade back to KK. Shouldn't be a problem if you want to do it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
Well I did the Factory Reset and left my phone off the charger to see what happens. Again I don't do much with my phone like a lot of other do. The battery is at 99% after an hour. Now that seems good.
I was unaware that factory reset would be needed. It's a PITA to do that but seems to have helped me. Thanks for the information.

I'm about 3 months in and its already running terribly. Totally stock. I mean I can't be the only person that had these issues Haha. This is my 4th Android phone since the G1. I've rooted and tried tons of custom ROMs on all of them except this one so far. Every time whether its stock or a ROM I get to the couple week or couple month point (never more than 3 months) and boom... lag, freezing, reboots, more lag, more freezing.
Do I just suck at owning an Android phone? The only thing I can think of that I might be doing "wrong" is having lots of apps/games installed but what good is a smartphone if you can't have a lot of apps/games installed?
I have 3 active widgets. A live wallpaper but I've tried getting rid of it and things are no better. A 64gb SD card that's mostly empty. 1-2gb internal storage free at any given time (I try to go through and delete games I'm never gonna play at least once in a while).
Battery life is abysmal. Like i said tons of freezing. Sometimes getting from my home screen to the dialer can take like a solid 10 seconds. Chrome freezes up constantly where nothing will happen for like 10-15 seconds. And today I just started getting random reboots.
Any thoughts or suggestions. I'm gonna try that carbon app to backup my game save data soon so I can bother myself with a restore but its gonna be a real pain and I just really hope it makes a difference.
Thanks for your thoughts
Dave

Sounds like you got a lemon. I'd do a warranty exchange.
Probably this belongs in q&a unless you were just ranting

A lemon huh? Do phones start working amazing then work horrible if theyre lemons? I might really consider it. Since I'm in Vegas I might as well wait and see if I can get the upcoming LTE version.
I suppose it was mostly a rant. I can move it when I get home (out on the phone now).

I commiserate. I really do. But, with the 2 in my possession I've kept for a long time there just aren't issues like that.
The g1 was first smartphone, too.
If I recall buying a new battery and doing tune ups (new software/apps), clearing the cache, etc. helped back then. And probably would, now.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Since it's working fine for a time, I'm going to say it's a software issue. Do you have Lookout (the security app)? It's either a poorly coded app or a malicious one. Can we see some of those battery stats?
have you tried removing the games from your phone?
I don't have lookout. Should I check it out?
And like I said, removing my games kinda defeats the purpose of having this big awesome smartphone. Although I do delete games on a regular basis...
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Did you update from ICS to JB without wiping? My wife's s3 (bone stock) had the same stuff going on after updating. It was all resolved with a factory reset.
It could also be other things.. Such as a rogue app eating up your ram.
Removing the games isn't supposed to be permanent. Just to help troubleshoot. Still haven't seen your battery stats. And yes, get Lookout, it's free.
Not sure which info you need to see regarding battery but heres a screenshot. Gonna check out lookout now. Also keep in mind leg/freezing is definitely more the issue than battery. Battery is terrible lately but I can live with that since I have chargers in every room, car, work, and one of those recharger packs haha

I think it's likely that the two are part of the same problem. Get Lookout and run a scan. Also, pick up the free version of GSam Battery Monitor and see if that can provide any clues.
If you aren't using Maps, disable it. Likes to eat battery when it shouldn't even be running. I use Titanium Backup to make an enable/disable widget for Maps and Google Play Music. GPS will work fine without Maps. Don't need it.
Also, do a battery pull. If the battery isn't seated properly, it can cause atrocious life. Didn't think that could happen... until I saw it happen.
So the main lookout app found no issues but the lookout ad detector found 4 collect location information and 11 collect network information apps. I'm gonna go through them tomorrow. Some from a quick look are big games I play daily which obviously I dont want to remove but I'm sure that some I can.

I do tend to use maps almost every day so not sure if I should disable it. Then again it does seem to run CONSTANTLY which i always found kinda ridiculous. Also I use play music every day but not the widget.
Had to do a battery pull earlier today when the device just shut off out of nowhere.
After looking at these ad network apps I'll check out that gsam battery monitor. Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone.

Idk you might be having too many apps and games lol idk.. Like others have said factory reset, also you may have a lot of apps that demand notifications that could greatly affect battery life such as Facebook etcc.

I agree. Might be a bad app. Save your data and do a factory reset like it was mentioned. Should clear issues right up. If not then take the next step and exchange it if possible.

Quick update. Woke up this morning and my phone was just off. Turned it back on, went to the bathroom, came back, it was off again. Got it back on and its running slow as hell but its on at least. This shutting off / rebooting stuff is new this week. Its terrible.
I guess im gonna try out carbon to back up my game data and see what I can do. It just really sucks if it turns out the issue is that a 16gb smart phone can't really store a lot of games. What a waste. Might as well carry an iPod touch and a flip phone Haha.
BTW I do get tons of text but I try to go in and clear those out every so often too. I never let my internal storage get below 1gb, 2 if I can help it.

Hello,
I know there are countless threads about the battery issues, but im having a hard time trying to find a solution for my problem.
My battery drain insanely fast, even on idle. I can barley get 5-6 hours on my battery. Standard usage, some Internet, texting etc. I have all the pre installed apps disabled, and have most apps I downloaded on manual sync.
A friend of mine had the same issue and replaced the battery and the phone is back to normal. I replaced the battery and still have the same issue.
It takes a long time to charge, sometimes I leave charging while the phone is off, and come back am hour later and it barley charged 3%.
Please I need some help, any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advanced.

How long have you had the phone and when did this start happening? Are you stock? If you're running a custom rom, when did you flash it (or any updates)?
I've had it since early September.
Same rom, using 4.1.1. Never been rooted.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
It sounds to me that software-wise your phone's battery should be working correctly, especially if you've disabled so many apps and never rooted. I think it's a defective battery. If you don't want to spend too much, you can buy 3rd party replacement batteries, but they probably won't have NFC.
I've already replaced the battery. I got the same battery my friend got when her s3 was having the same problem... Now her phone is fine and mines still isn't.

Ok. That's not good. Assuming you've tried factory resetting the phone and it still didn't do anything, I say go back to carrier store and get a replacement phone. Something obviously isn't right. Phone hasn't been out a year yet so it'll fall under manufacturer warranty. I had to get mine replaced a month ago for another issue.

I have a note 2 through verizon. I have not rooted because unfortunately due to an app that is required for my company I cannot. A lot of detail there. But my issue is that all of a sudden my phone will not charge if it is on. Works perfectly if it is off. I have not had any updates for 3 weeks or changes to my phone besides a couple of apps that have updates. Sports Score, Tune in radio and appy geek. I wouldn't think any of those would do anything since I don't see in their permissions they would have any reason to change the charging port. Because of the app that is required for work I cannot get root access. I have read through most of the threads on other charging issues but they have all had rooted or flashed their ROMs along with other things that are not the same like their phone won't charge at all. I have removed the battery and let it sit for a few minutes (about 5) and still the same thing. This wouldn't be a big issue except turning my phone off when I am on call most of the time is not the greatest option.

Gone through the chargers, forgot to put that in previous post. I guess I will go ahead with the factory reset was hoping to avoid that but having a phone charging when powered on is worth having to reset everything back up on the phone. Will update once I am able to run the reset process

will what ended up fixing it was I was simply charging it late last night and turned it on when it was charging. It ended up just starting working again when it turned on and continued charging. Again today at work when I plugged it in at my desk it started charging just fine again. Thanks though really glad I didn't have to do the factory reset.

Did you have wifi or the gps on? That could drain it. Also if you have any cpu intensive apps running in the background that might affect it.

WiFi on, not GPS. And no apps running. WiFi alone should never drain 50% in about 9 hours of the phone being on standby.

I've run into this issue as well. I have GPS on and Wifi off most of the time. The best thing that I've been able to do is flash the stock firmware using the Samsung SmartSwitch application for PC. I saw this solution recommended on another XDA post and YouTube video. I was doubtful it would work, considering the phone is brand new, but after I did it, it helped out quite a bit. I've slept with my phone unplugged now for about 7-8 hours and only saw a decrease of 5% in battery. It's an unfortunate solution, but it could help.
The video I found on this is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8AZyalTf5Y

Turn off VoLTE and WiFi Calling. The cell standby will practically disappear from your battery usage list. Reassess after doing that.

Hmm. Try backing up your data with SmartSwitch, flashing stock firmware, then restoring what you can. My first S6 (on my 3rd now... 2nd had dust under screen) had a problem going into deep sleep, and even after factory resets/flashing stock firmware via Odin, I could not solve the problem which makes me think it was hardware related. I was at a loss so I took it back and had them swap the device.

Sounds about right - good luck. When I went to have mine replaced the T-Mobile store was dead set on convincing me that it was normal for the phone to drop 35-40% as I slept for 6 hours. Also tried telling me that 6-8 hours battery life with an hour of screen time is normal "because Samsung used a smaller battery". I got pissed, just returned the phone, and paid the $50 restocking fee. T-Mobile corporate asked for a copy of my receipt and just credited the $50 to my bill.
I have been getting an extreme battery drain for the past few days and cannot tell what is causing it other than a signal issue on T-Mobiles end.
First let me start by saying I came from the 5.1 leak that was out and then ODINed the latest official 5.1 (after wiping all partitions). Everything ran fine for a while until a few days ago. Noticed that my signal would change from 4GLTE to just plain 4G and my phone would get reaallly hott and burn through battery real quick. All apps closed, no background apps consuming too much data. It's gotten to be really bad I can't go anywhere now without a charger handy. I paid 800+ for this phone and I am super pissed that I'm having this issue. It would go from a full battery to dead within 3-4 hours with very little use at all.
Has anyone else been experiencing this? My next step is to try factory reset and if still no luck try re flashing the official through ODIN again and if still nothing try exchanging through T-Mobile...
Sent from my SM-G925T using XDA Free mobile app
I would recommend factory reset and start from scratch.
I'm still running stock setup with a bunch of junk apps disabled and I get great battery life and not once has this phone gotten warm let alone hot. I also did the ota update when it was released with no side affects what so ever.
We shouldn't bash the phone or Samsung if we're messing with the phone and then complaining about it not been worth the money we paid for it, all I can say is that this phone is perfect out of the box as is. Its up to the development community here on XDA to improve on what Samsung has done.
But everybody's rushing to flash and shortcuts are being taken and the end result is a bunch of people grumbling about the phone.
For this reason I'm waiting for the perfected root procedure that involves one file in Odin and your done. Root without side affects, custom recovery I can live without.
Try going back to stock and run the phone for a 24hr period and then you can figure out if its the phone or something you did.
