I am getting massive delays with alerts on wifi. The only app that does not appear to be affected is facebook messenger. Everything else gives delayed notifications and some like hangouts do not even show any notification until I open the actual app. I do not remember this happening before the last OTA push to jellybean. I have the Verizon VK810 on android 5.0.2. Any suggestions?
Are you on the latest OTA? Try a factory reset?
Interesting, this problem sounds a lot like what was occurring for LG G3 owners on Verizon under certain instances... As I recall it was specific to the router involved and also had something to do with IPV6 however it did not occur for me and therefore I never had to chase the issue...

Hey everyone, has anyone else been having issues with Gmail notifications not working when the phone is locked or asleep. The notifications come in a few moments after I turn on the phone, but they don't come in when the phone is asleep. I checked every setting and it seems like it might be a hardware or software issue with the Note 4 that is preventing the notifications to come in during sleep. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this. This was never an issue with my Note 3 and I matched every setting to it and it all seems to be the same.

yes way beyond baisic stuff
Update, i called samsung and had them create a ticket, the rep said they have not heard of this issue at all. Long story short if they come up with a fix it will be after 5.1.1 which carriers like ATT have not pushed out and that means it could be a year or longer before it is resolved. They do not work directly with end customers so we are out of luck basically. Frankly for me this is deal breaker and I might be returning my phone and going back to blackberry.
Ever since December 23rd or so, when I first rooted my stock Nexus 5X, Google Messenger has been behaving strangely. Long SMS messages have seemingly random characters attached to the end of them, which do not show up on the sender's end. The most common is a "¿", but occasionally I get a delta ∆ on the end. I cannot find anyone else with this problem either here or elsewhere online. Does anyone have ideas? It's not necessarily a problem, but it is a mysterious inconvenience.
I am running the latest update of Marshmallow (stock ROM), with systemless root (SuperSU 2.61 I believe) and TWRP recovery. Nothing else out of the ordinary. This did only become a problem after rooting my phone, which may be part of the problem. Any help would be appreciated!
Edit: it should be noted that while these are valid characters, they do not appear when searched for with Messenger's built-in search function.
just to be sure: these symbols appear on your end after receiving a sms? in that case it would be interesting to know what phones/apps the sender of those uses.
if this is the case with sms you have written, it could be useful to know what keyboard/input method you are using. did you restore your sms' and/or the messenger app from a previous backup?
first thing you could try is clearing the app data and maybe de-/reinstalling possible updates of it.
interested to see how your case turns out, since i never heard of anything like this.

Yes, they are on my end. It has happened so far with iPhone and Android senders using their stock messages application. And I have already cleared cache/data for Messenger with no change. It is a most unusual problem. I may just try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
(I am unable to insert image links, or else I would provide a screenshot)

Also seeing this behavior occasionally, from both iPhone and Android senders. Haven't been able to figure out a pattern yet as it's only happened three times so far (three different senders, one time each). It's the strangest thing. I wish Messenger had some sort of bug reporting utility, since I've found several already.

I have switched to Textra indefinitely, as this does not solve the problem, but does support many features that Messenger is lacking. If you find a way to submit a bug report, I would be interested in that information
All,
I have a VZW note 4 and have installed the wunderground app. In the app is a way to receive push notification alerts for severe weather. My problem is that I never receive any push notifications. I can open the app and see the red triangle indicating an alert has occurred but I need a way for it to alert me without opening the app.
I am thinking that this may be related to apps that I have frozen using the lists from this forum and other XDA note 4 forums. I currently have above 150 frozen apps/services but weather, wundergroud, nor anything with "push" in the title is frozen.
I do receive notifications from other apps such as text messages, etc so I know that I am capable of receiving push notifications.
Does anyone have any ideas about what might be preventing wunderground to not send these push notifications to my device? I have configured it properly per wunderground support.
The obvious solution is to enable all disabled apps and services. Chances are you did this yourself.
If it works after enabling everything, you can disable in small groups at a time until you find what the problem is.
If it doesn't work after enabling everything, you can try more complicated things.
Yes I have unfrozen everything but it is not like I can immediately test it because severe weather alert are not a daily thing around here. Was hoping someone else might have run into this issue and already solved it.
Just to follow up on this issue I may have found the problem. It was not with frozen apps but rather the use of nova launcher. I found a setting in nova under the labs section called "restart widgets on resume". I don't know much about it but the description is "only enable if having problems with widgets no updating". I have turned that on and now the weather widget is updating on my hourly schedule and I have started receiving weather alerts from a 2nd app (saf-t-net) that I have installed. Previously neither of these was working. I have yet to get any wunderground alert but there has not been a NWS alert yet. I may get that later today though.
Apologies if I am posting this in the wrong spot. I have a Pixel 2 XL(obviously) and had been on the Android beta program for some time now. The android p beta had been running really solid for me with no issues. So when they pushed it out officially last week i of course went for it. However, all of a sudden now, when *sending* texts, it gives me a notification sound (same as incoming notification). Anyone run into this? I searched the forums briefly but didnt see anyone with the issue although I couldve missed it.
Note- I'm using the Google Messages(I believe thats the official name) app, I just prefer it to Hangouts. I did check the settings, and disabled the setting for outbound notification sounds- but it persists.
Here's the kicker- it cant be isolated to just me, as my mom has the same phone -she messaged me last week and asked if she should update (I'm typically the guinea pig) and I said yep, been rock solid for me.. now she's getting the exact same behavior. So barring it being the messages app itself which i suppose is possible, I dont know.
Thoughts? Suggestions? I havent tried a different messenger app yet, suppose I could(textra maybe), I'm just partial to this one for whatever reason.
Thanks in advance!
Disregard. I guess its specific to Android Messages app. Installed another text app and the issue went no longer occurs.
I have the same issue with my Android Messages app
After moving from OP7T from OP5, I am having trouble getting new mail notification in the Gmail app. Notification is severely delayed in most cases, and sometimes work when the phone is woken up. I don't see Gmail listed under Battery Optimization, so I'm not sure whether Gmail is getting killed off or not. Anyone else having the same issue? I tried locked the app in the recent apps screen, but nothing improved.

Yep I am having this issue too.
I've been seeing this issue for quite some time, even with previous phones, including Samsung.
I posted in Google Support Forum too, as well as in the OnePlus forum. No solution/communication from the support/dev yet
To me it seems sporadic tho; if I get an email verification from some site, it will usually come through right away. But I do find that when the phone is sleeping I wake it up sometimes and a few emails come they all of a sudden.
