My phone is running so hot, charging slowly, and battery drain is crazy. It gets hot behind the camera even without use. Also, data is shotty.
What should I do?

welcome to android rom
waoh, the reality is cruel.
thanks for the reply
It's not normal to drain that fast Maybe your screen doens't shut off completely. Check the faq for your answer
Do all the standard things to increase battery life. Turn off GPS, lower the screen brightness, don't have your apps updating so often.

thats more than likely the cpu since either you have it overclocked. but then again it also gets hot w/o it being overclocked but just takes longer for it to.
Hey guys, hopefully someone can help.
I have a Nexus with severe charging, overheating and battery drain issues. It's on stock jellybean, factory reset, no extra apps installed, and the battery will discharge in about 1 hour by just sitting idle. It takes maybe 2 days to actually charge to 80%. I'm about to replace the charging port to see if that will help.
However, it's also getting extremely hot. Not just mildly warm. And this is when it's just sitting there idle. Not only that, it's staying hot when the phone is off and not even charging. The only time it stops is when the battery fully discharges in about 2 hours... while the phone is still off.
Anyone experience this?
I have a grey market Galaxy Nexus which means I can't send it in for US repairs.

sounds like its time to replace the battery. is the battery leaking, discolored, warped, or "pregnant"?

Yes, I'm also saying it's the time for a battery replacement. They are fairly cheap, so you can fix it without spending too much money.

Nope, battery looks brand new, but I'll definitely order a new battery. Hopefully the ones on eBay are really OEM.
My battery gets to 122f while charging and wifi tether. I try to keep it near a fan and it helps some. But I don't have any battery drain issues. You probably just need a new battery.

New charging port, new battery and phone still charges extremely slow and drains real fast. About 20% in 40 minutes. Takes around 30 minutes to charge 2%.
Then when I take the battery out and put it back in, the phone thinks the battery is empty (I took it out with 30% charge left). Not sure what to do at this point since the only thing left to do is replace the mainboard which will probably cost more than it's worth.
Anyone have any other ideas?

After threatening to throw this phone in the ocean, it started working normally.
Trying to figure out what was wrong with it, opened it up again, put back in the old charging port (which had a higher revision number than the one I bought).
I waited 1.5 days for the phone to charge to 96%. Drained it to about 20% in less than 2hrs. Stuck it into the charger again but the battery was still draining. All the way down to 7% where it seemingly stayed stuck for a day. Then I guess it shut itself off.
Went to check on the phone randomly and saw on the power-off screen the battery had charged to 100% which never has happened and especially not in less than a day.
Turned it back on, started using it and battery drains sort of normally now. Overheating has also disappeared completely and now it also charges normally.
So in summary, I have no idea if this problem is going to resurface and I really didn't do anything to fix it. Though I would really like to know what happened to have it malfunction like this for almost a month.
Hi Guys,
Recently my USB charging port stopped working. I tried to clean the area and move the pin back up but nothing worked. I ordered 2 spare battery's and an external battery charger. At that point, I was getting 2-3 hours of battery life. Once I did a factory reset on my phone, I began to receive 4-5 hours of battery life, which was okay since I have 3 batteries. I've also ordered the part to fix the USB port.
My guess is that fixing the USB port won't solve the battery usage problem right? I've noticed that if I turn off my phone at 20% battery and turn it back in the morning, the phone is dead, as in battery is being used even when the phone is turned off, which is weird.
Is there any fix to this issue? What would be causing such battery depletion?
Thanks for the help!

how long has this been happening? new issue or recent.
try DLing disable service from play store. allows you to go into each app and turn things off thats running in background.
also, wakelock detector, lets you know whats draining your bat
If device is discharging quickly even when turned off, factory resets, kernels or other software tricks probably can't help. Replacing USB port however sounds useful. It may be damaged in a way that drains battery.

its been going on for a month now. The battery life has slowly gone down over the past few months but I don't exactly know when it became so drastic. What's bothering me though is that when I did a full factory reset and nothing was running on my phone, not even google apps only wifi and regular cellular data, I got ~4.5 hours. How does that happen on a new battery? That must be a hardware issue right?

Ah okay, so even if I'm not using the USB port currently, it could be linked to the battery drainage problem?
Whenever I play any Games or watch movie on VR phone is getting heated a lot, any one facing this ? I am on MM 20C

I have the same issue on Indian MM 20C and I don't even do any of those. Even when the screen is off, the phone gets heated with severe battery discharge.
In fact if I plug the phone to a Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 charger while the phone is hot, it charges terribly slow. I feel it is more like it discharges faster than charging which creates the slow charging illusion. Normally in 1 hour the phone charges to about 45% but when it is heating up, it only charges like 5% to 10% in the same 1 hour.
Everything was good with Lollipop until MM 20C came and ruined this phone. I know another friend who is having the same issue. I hope they release 20E in Indian markets soon.
You are absolutely correct. Hope for Good Version.

Same heating problem here but it is summer season so it is obvious for me. Gaming is the thing which starts all cores + gpu on max throttle to give a better gaming experience . Waiting for a unlocked bootloader solution so i could flash recovery and debloat all the bloats and tweak the phone just like i did with my G2.
Yes.. How was the heating in LP compared to MM?

If you restart the phone and then recharge, is there any difference ?
Are you letting the phone recharge by letting it sit on its own without touching it.
heating is because its doing some work, more than it is indicating. Some app or something stuck continuously draining resources.

I think its the weather. Ambient temps are ten degrees more in the last couple of months. Once the monsoons begin things will ease.
Hi. I am using the bundled moto turbo charger with my phone and have noticed that the phone sides and back get hot mid-charge when charging and cools down when the battery is about 80% full. Is this a problem with my phone/charger or does it happen with you guys also.
Its cause of the Turbo charger
That's absolutely normal. Don't worry.
Yup happens to mine too. Heats up quite a bit and then cools down after a while
Clean your charging jack once with hot gun with paste.
Sent from my E10i using XDA Free mobile app
No need to be worried then as its common for everyone. Thanks.
It's completely normal, phones from ~2-3 years ago (before quick charging) didnt have this problem because they didnt have to dissipate the heat generated by forcing 15 (moto Z) to 25 (moto X) watts into the phone. Phones pre-quick charging only took in ~5-10 watts which is much easier for a phone to handle, although its also much slower. If you dont need to quick charge I would recommend using a normal power brick which will charge it slower, but also generate less heat. Some people think the heat can cause the battery to lose capacity quicker, while manufacturers say it doesnt. Honestly I dont know which is true so I cant say. I personally so far have charged over night on usb (~2.5 watts) and its done charging my phone and my moto mod by morning from <30% to 100%.

No need to worry, that's completely normal. The phone turbo charges until it hits the 80% mark, then the turbo stops and until 100% it charges normally, like any other phone, so it doesn't get hot. During the turbo charge it's normal that the phone heats, as it uses more power to charge faster, and from 80 to 100%, it begins to cool down, because it uses less power to complete the charge.
Normal
compared with x style
z play is nothing:laugh:
A potential work around
I realized that if you remove the back cover (style mod) while charging and keep the phone a little raised from the surface the extreme heat is not experienced.
You could try and confirm.
