LG G4 H818N India Heating - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Whenever I play any Games or watch movie on VR phone is getting heated a lot, any one facing this ? I am on MM 20C

I have the same issue on Indian MM 20C and I don't even do any of those. Even when the screen is off, the phone gets heated with severe battery discharge.
In fact if I plug the phone to a Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 charger while the phone is hot, it charges terribly slow. I feel it is more like it discharges faster than charging which creates the slow charging illusion. Normally in 1 hour the phone charges to about 45% but when it is heating up, it only charges like 5% to 10% in the same 1 hour.
Everything was good with Lollipop until MM 20C came and ruined this phone. I know another friend who is having the same issue. I hope they release 20E in Indian markets soon.

You are absolutely correct. Hope for Good Version.

Same heating problem here but it is summer season so it is obvious for me. Gaming is the thing which starts all cores + gpu on max throttle to give a better gaming experience . Waiting for a unlocked bootloader solution so i could flash recovery and debloat all the bloats and tweak the phone just like i did with my G2.

Yes.. How was the heating in LP compared to MM?

If you restart the phone and then recharge, is there any difference ?
Are you letting the phone recharge by letting it sit on its own without touching it.
heating is because its doing some work, more than it is indicating. Some app or something stuck continuously draining resources.

I think its the weather. Ambient temps are ten degrees more in the last couple of months. Once the monsoons begin things will ease.

[Q] LG G4 Charging Very Slowly

Hi, I just got an LG G4 yesterday. Charging using stock charger, or any other charger I had no problems with S3 before, is really slow. As in obviously slow. The unit is estimating 3-4 hours to charge 30%-40% of battery. Once it took around 20-30 minutes to just charge 5% of battery.
Using Ampere app it is showing on average just 270mah charge. Sometimes it registers 1660mah, then it drops down significantly and settles with 270mah.
Using the dual sim model if that's any help.
Is this a new battery thing? Should I insist to have the unit (or the battery) replaced? Is this a hardware or a software issue? Even if i insist to have this replaced I want to be able to explain that this is a factory defect.
Same problem here..
Really annoying.

Same here, I think it charges at full speed when the screen is off...
I got myself a QC2.0 charger and its doing exactly the same.
It does appear to charge faster with it while the screen is off but I'm wondering if there is an update to the device that needs to be done to fully support QC2.0
i've buy an Aukey Turbo Charger Adapter.
Then my G4 has fast charging more about 75%
I've seen the same thing happen on mine. Highest current I've seen was 1650 mah. And that's with the screen off. Leaving the screen on it reduces to 270 mah

I had the same problem but it stopped after about week. Now it charges quite quickly and that's not with the fastcharge that isn't too impressive.
Same issue. Charging went from 2% to 46% in about 3.5 hours and it says it's still another 4 hours before it completes charging. Totally annoying.
i using the Aukey Turbo Charger and get around 1%-1.5% every min i have done 30%-70% in like 40min
I have a HTC quick charger that I used with my M8. It works well with the G4. With the screen off I have had nearly 2 A charging. It is much less when the screen is on.
Just got my G4 and it's doing the same thing.

my post was made during 2nd ever charging. i did turn on screen occasionally, but not like it was on all the time.
last night charge was shorter - around 5.5 hours.
This is really annoying trying to stream music and navigation sometimes losses a charge. With nexus 5 I usually gained 30 plus percent on my way to work on 40 ish minutes with car charger.
It "might" be a software limitation, to avoid pushing the battery too hard in its early cycles. Same as a brand new car, they usually tell you not to drive too fast for the motor to actually run with optimal parameters.

I am also experiencing the same. I am getting 640mA. It is really frustrating. Yesterday I connected the phone with the provided cable with G4 with my laptop. And i was using the phone, not heavy using. And actually the battery was draining, rather than charging. I got so frustrated. I found the phone actually charges better while staying idle & screen off, but not very promising.
Yep, add me to that list too. T-Mobile G4 with screen off and no use because I'm driving almost all day just to see a 5-10% more charge after driving almost 2 hours. The original charger behaves the same way too. The only fix I've found is to turn the phone off and charge it. It charges really fast that way only.

Charged mine from 2 to 100% in under 2 hours with my note 4 charger
@fatboypup does this also work with screen on? Imagine using gmaps in the car, screen and gps active - it would be a pity if the g4 lost power in such a situation when on the car charger

As I noted above it is an issue with cars too. I'm lucky to gain 5 to 10 percent with navigation and streaming music in 45 mins. The same situation with nexus was over 30%.
Does this behavior stay or is it only for the first charges? Is there anyone who has no slow charging with screen on? Is the g4 gaining at least some percent when navigating with gmaps?

[Q] Is this normal?

I bought this phone yesterday and is my first non Motorola phone.
The phone is still running 4.4.2.
The battery is draining at an alarming rate (13% doing nothing) and gets hot ~ 40°C (and laggy when hot)
Is this normal the first few days or should I return the device?
Regards
Sanjay
You can probably wait a few days for it to settle down with the syncs and stuff. Battery temperature is quite high for not doing anything but it could reach that temperature if you use navigation or during heavy gaming. My battery usually stays at about 31-32 degrees during moderate usage like browsing or playing youtube videos.

Mine did the same thing when I first got it, let it fully die then charge it. It should settle down after that.

How many times did you do that? I have done it twice already
To drain the battery at an even faster rate, I just have to use Google Chrome. The phone is drained empty in forty five mins to an hour

Incredible Slow Charge

hi guys
my phone gets charged from %1 to %100 in nearly 3-3.5 hours with a 5V 2A charger !
it is too slow, is there a way to quick up the charging with a different kernel, firmware, ROM etc. ?
how about yours ?
thanks
Fastest thing to do is download a battery stat like Ampere and see if the phone actually is charging at 2A. Or more then likely it's probably only drawing a smaller amount whether its a false advertised charger or any other multitude of reasons

thanks for your response, i will test with that application.
are you using the same phone ? one e9+, how about your charging time ?
thanks
It's normal, well it's not normal but this phone recharge really slowly. Mine e9+ too, i'm hoping that with android 6.0 htc will be able to solve this problem.
HTC One E9+
It's normal to charge in 3-4 hours! My HTC One E9+ are charged from 0% to 100% in 3.50-4 hours!
But it posible to resolv in next version 6.0.1!
Recently purchased Gold/Sepia E9+ and yeah, reviews do say it can charge slowly.
I just tested mine with 2A charger and with phone turned off it took 3 hours 45mins to get from 3% to 100%.
As above, here's hoping Marshmallow will improve it a bit.
mine also drains very quickly from %15 to %0 in 10-15 minutes and shutdown immediately. is yours also the same?
thx

Well you're lucky, mine from 15% to zero in like one minute.

Anyone else having crazy heat problems when charging?

This phone is amazing, and I love it, but holy God it turns into an oven super quick when charging or using some intensive tasks like video calling or charging.
Don't know about the 10 (yet) but the area around the camera gets burning hot when I'm gaming on my OnePlus One.
What kind of temperatures are you getting? The hottest mine has every gotten while charging is 43 degrees celsius. I use the stock HTC quick charger and I don't use my phone while its charging.
My HTC 10 does not get any hotter than any other phone I have ever owned. And this is the FASTEST charging phone I have ever owned. Full charge in one hour in most situations.

If you are doing anything intensive when charging, all phones will get warm/hot. The HTC 10 will be particularly noticeable since the majority of the body is made of metal. The only way the that the heat from the CPU/GPU to escape is via the metallic body.
How to fix samsung galaxy pocket neo GT-S5310I (Bootloop)?
Mine is running at a normal temperature while charging...
I've recently got the HTC 10 and it does get warm when it's charging but not to the point of it being uncomfortable. And it cools down really fast too...

You aren't using the correct charger. There are other reports on XDA about this same issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/htc-10-burned-powered-off-t3379710
Gets no hotter than my n6 m7 m8 and s7 get while charging
No problems with QC3 chargers, a regular 2A charger and charging via computer USB ports for me.
I've even gamed or used Navigation while charging with the QC3 chargers without heat issues (i.e., it gets warm but still not as much as my Nexus 6P or LG G2).
It might get a little warm if I'm using it (say Youtube) while charging, but when it is on it's own or just browsing the web or facebooking it does not get hot.
Is the heating problem very big issue

Heating during charging

Hi. I am using the bundled moto turbo charger with my phone and have noticed that the phone sides and back get hot mid-charge when charging and cools down when the battery is about 80% full. Is this a problem with my phone/charger or does it happen with you guys also.
Its cause of the Turbo charger
That's absolutely normal. Don't worry.
Yup happens to mine too. Heats up quite a bit and then cools down after a while
Clean your charging jack once with hot gun with paste.
Sent from my E10i using XDA Free mobile app
No need to be worried then as its common for everyone. Thanks.
It's completely normal, phones from ~2-3 years ago (before quick charging) didnt have this problem because they didnt have to dissipate the heat generated by forcing 15 (moto Z) to 25 (moto X) watts into the phone. Phones pre-quick charging only took in ~5-10 watts which is much easier for a phone to handle, although its also much slower. If you dont need to quick charge I would recommend using a normal power brick which will charge it slower, but also generate less heat. Some people think the heat can cause the battery to lose capacity quicker, while manufacturers say it doesnt. Honestly I dont know which is true so I cant say. I personally so far have charged over night on usb (~2.5 watts) and its done charging my phone and my moto mod by morning from <30% to 100%.

No need to worry, that's completely normal. The phone turbo charges until it hits the 80% mark, then the turbo stops and until 100% it charges normally, like any other phone, so it doesn't get hot. During the turbo charge it's normal that the phone heats, as it uses more power to charge faster, and from 80 to 100%, it begins to cool down, because it uses less power to complete the charge.
Normal
compared with x style
z play is nothing:laugh:
A potential work around
I realized that if you remove the back cover (style mod) while charging and keep the phone a little raised from the surface the extreme heat is not experienced.
You could try and confirm.
