Periods of silence during calls - Verizon HTC One (M9)

I searched and couldn't find anything similar...
My wife has a Vz M9 that she has had for about a month. On almost every call she makes there are periods of silence (lasting 1 - 3 seconds)- no audio to/from the phone. It's odd and I cant seem to figure out if signal is bombing out for a second. My M8 has no issues like this, I am sure I have a visit to Vz in my future, but figured I would check here first.
Thanks,

Completely stock, I'd mess around with it if she'd let me root it...

Is Advanced Calling enabled? I was having the same problem with a few seconds of silence; eventually I tried disabling Advanced Calling, which solved the issue for me. I have 4G much of the time in the house, but it will occasionally go down to 3G, and I'm guessing it's those moments that cause the trouble since Advanced Calling requires 4G. Hopefully it will get better over time. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it's a little annoying to lose the ability for simultaneous voice and data.

[Q] Freezing your account - does it block out any part of the phone?

I'm traveling overseas in September for over half a month and want to call Sprint and get them to freeze my account while I'm gone. I understand the monthly fee is $8.99 (don't know if they will pro-rate it or what) which is much better than paying for that month of service that you hardly use.
Since I'm going out of the country and won't be able to use my EVO, I'm assuming I can freeze my account but still use the phone, just without any mobile wireless capabilities.
The wifi should be able to look up stuff online, check email, and look at Google Maps, correct? I just want to make sure there's not some weird kind of thing that Sprint would lock out all the features of your phone.
Bottom line: you can freeze your account but still use all features besides making calls and sending texts via mobile broadband, right? But all apps (besides GPS) can work off wi-fi, unless the app is specifically designed to use mobile broadband only.
Thank you to anyone who helps!
get you a google voice number and you'll have a phone as long as you're on wifi too

I thought that would be the case too, but GV relies on the phone's non broadband capabilities - so you need mobile broadband/phone line for it to work.
I thought I was being clever and found away to never use minutes by using GV to dial to landlines but that's not the case.
I would venture to say that unless you are traveling somewhere that has cdma coverage, your normal phone related functions won't work anyway since you won't have reception. You really shouldn't need to pay a fee to basically disable the phone portion of your phone since on the evo, you have the option to have the airplane mode exclude wifi from the radios it disables. I traveled to the UK back in april and can attest to the fact that the wifi on my old pre worked without a hitch and I can also confirm that it did not receive signal either so there were no incoming calls or sms messages to worry about. All that said, you shouldn't have any trouble with wifi. As long as you're on wifi, google maps should work just fine as well.

OK thanks, I didn't want to assume anything, because, you know, I really wouldn't be surprised if a company froze more than just sending/receiving texts/calls capability (in addition to web surfing obviously).
I just don't want to pay almost $100 for 2 weeks of service out of the month - so I need to give em a call and see if they can freeze it for 2 weeks and charge me half as much, that way I can save a little cash.

Did you use it through a SIP program or just the GV app by itself? I will have to test it out when I'm there.

Well that would be even better, I do hope you're right!
Any VOIP should work on wi-fi... damn skype and Fring shenanigans... I was so looking forward to that when I deployed... would have made it so much easier to communicate with my wife. (shes not real big on technology and my short fuse of trying to setup/explain how to do new things sucks) lol...
You basically sumed it up, all apps should work fine unless they need specific network support. In my past experiences with deploying for short terms, it was actually just easier to suck it up and pay the bill instead of downgrading service. They don't always get it right and if you end up coming back early it can be a PITA to get it back on..

Thanks, I was thinking about the same thing about it being such a pain in the ass to deal with it as well... and when I finally get back stateside at least I'll definitely have service.
Although Google Voice requires the mobile network for phone, it uses data for sms and I expect mms. So if you had WiFi access you would have texting available.

[Q] Multi-tasking sucks

Is it me or is the multi-tasking lacking in this samsung rom? With the HTC i could be on a call and still browse the web with wifi or take a pic or whatever I wanted to but not with this samsung phone. Also what the heck is up with not being able to use the phone at all which transferring data to/from the computer? Is this something that the developers will address or should I turn in this phone for the HTC 3D?
i dont know what you are talking about i browse the web and take phone calls all the time... are you hitting your home button in the phone app?
2nd that, no problems no complaints.
I don't know what you are talking about. All of that stuff works just fine for me.
If you wanna go for the EVO3D go for it, I had 3 of 'em. All of them had horribly weak 2G/3G radios. Bright screen, washed out. Narrow form factor (some like it, I hated it). The resolution was fantastic. The camera was craptastic, at best. Great dev scene, if you are into 50 themed version of the stock rom (though there are a bunch of great roms for it...most aren't).
All-in-all a great phone, but, I have never regretted the switch...not once.
If you don't mind the 16:9 screen and the super bright LED buttons ( which can be fixed with root) evo3d isn't a bad phone. I never had any radio issues, but it just wasn't right for me to hang on to.
I do all that stuff all the time. Pressing your home button during a call turns your notification bar green, and you can do whatever you want

You can't 3g while you're on a call. However, you can 4g while on a call and definitely wifi while on a call.
When my gf calls and shes yammering about the neighbors or something im usually playing Greedy Spider or burn the rope or using LOLbrowser on the wifis.

Weird. It's not working for me. Is there a setting you have to change first? I tried calling my land lie to test. It says it's not allowed while call is in place. It was the same thing with my old epic 4g, and I just assumed it was normal.

You cannot talk and browse at the same time, unless you are using 4G, or Wifi, this is a limitation of the CDMA network

I have the same issue, and this is one of the only posts about it. Have you found a way to fix it? I'm at a point where I'm about to just sell this. I can't get anything done. Do you by chance have T-Mobile?
Same issue. T-Mobile here. Doesn't disturb me enough to sell the phone, haven't had the issue since going to a custom ROM. I'm sure it'll be fixed with OTA's or whatever.
Hello
i have the same problem
i am on VIPNET Croatia
is some fix coming soon
it is very annoying
Really nice to know I'm not the only one. But my god, it's getting worse as time goes on. I'm at the point where I can't even get data unless I reboot the phone 5-6 times, and only for a few seconds. I am completely out of ideas.

please can you tell me witch coustom rom did you put in htc M8
and solve the data issue
i am going crazy with this phone
and i want to put same coustom rom like you
to get problem fix
please help
I have been using my m8 since the day I got it back in early April and have never experienced that issue. I am also on tmo but have the dev edition with stock rom but I live in the city so I always get a strong and good signal.
Possible solution
My M8 worked great for a month when about a week ago I've started having serious issues with the HSPA data.
After working great for a few minutes the data stopped working.
The H icon showed that traffic was sent from the phone but no traffic received by the phone.
Sometimes the data connection was restored by itself and sometimes I has to toggle the data connection off/on to have it restored.
It both cases the data connection failed again after several minutes.
All the diagnostics app showen that there was hspa connection.
After trying almost anything I could think of I found out what causes my problem:
It's the F**** NFC!!!
I've forgot that a week ago I've disabled the NFC thinking this will save battery life (though the battery life is great).
Turning the NFC on (followed by a power-down/power up cycle) solved all the data connection problem.
I've verified several times that NFC disable is indeed the cause of my problem.
Hope this helps others on this thread.

Texts will not deliver on wifi calling setting.

Ever since I first flashed The Lonely Rom, I do not recieve texts when I am on wifi calling. I do when on 4g, LTE or any other settings. I've tried a full wipe (including storage), restoring backup, another full wipe and flashing The Lonely Rom again. I'm at a complete loss. Please help.

Did a little research since posting. Seems this is a sort of common problem with wifi calling, though most of the instances I've found deal with the Galaxy S5 and some Windows phones. The one fix found is as follows:
Can't use text or picture messaging
If you're experiencing messaging issues, it could be due to a Wi-Fi issue or a phone problem.
*
To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
*
Turn off your phone for 30 seconds.Turn it back on and try to use Wi-Fi Calling. Visit the*Phones*page, and select your device. Look for*Wi-Fi Calling*to access guided steps.Try to send a picture message to your own 11-digit mobile number while connected to Wi-Fi Calling. If you are still having problems with messaging, contact T-Mobile Customer Service.

Needless to say, I've already tried turning it off thirty seconds, etc. Sigh.

Funny thing; when I had the Note 3, I had no such issue. I only had the Note 3 for two months, but that's enough time to see issues arise. There were none. At least with wifi calling. The LG G3 has been a perfect phone for me, except for wifi calling and the keyboard glitching out before I exchanged my G3 for a new one.

This was such a huge debate cause I went thru all the trouble and posted a video and everything even a phone conversation I recorded with tmobile and one with Samsung when they both stated it didn't work cause it still used cell data to send message. Samsung said t mobile was not set up to do text over IP. So one of the fixes they did was when you was on WiFi it would hide the 4g or LTE logo but would still use it. How I told everyone to teat was send a message while in airplane mode. No one could lol.

Losing data after wifi disconnect

Been having this problem for awhile now, but it's getting more frequent.
If I'm connected to a wifi network, be it home or work, and I then step away from it, my data connection will be stuck at 1X (ie no data), even if my signal is at max bars, and I'm in an area where I know I've had data before.
Sometimes toggling data or airplane mode will bring it back, but that fix is working less often now. Rebooting the phone seems to fix it, and I'll immediately get 4G LTE data. But this is happening every other day now, and I can't keep resetting the damn thing every time I get into the car in order to make sure that my email and messaging apps still work.
Is there some way within the settings to force the phone to reestablish data with the tower without resetting?
EDIT: Took it to Verizon, who gave me a new sim card. Will test for the next few days and see if that fixes it.
Update : the problem resurfaced. As usual, reseting fixed it, but this is getting obnoxious. I'll take it back to Verizon and see what they say.

Well, I received a new phone overnight via FedEx, and the new one hasn't lost its data connection yet.
So yes, I supposed it's "fixed"... But I wouldn't really consider having a new phone sent to me a "fix", since this option is probably not available to all users.
