[Q] Incredible 2 Stuck at HBOOT, need to recover some data! - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hello everyone,
I have a stock Verizon Incredible 2 running Gingerbread 2.3.4 OTA which is stuck at HBOOT.

Things I've already done:
Tried booting with/without SD Card.
Tried booting with/without SIM Card.
Attempted to boot into recovery from HBOOT which gives the HTC spash screen, followed by "Updating Software from Verizon Wireless", followed by a picture of a Smartphone with a Red Triangle and Exclamation Point. The phone then reboots itself after 60 seconds.
While I'm on the Red Triangle screen, I'm able to load Android system recovery <3e> using Power and Volume Up, but it gives the following errors and then reboots after 60 seconds:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount DATA
E:Can't mount /data/data/recovery/log
E:Can't open /data/data/recovery/log
Downloaded the latest RUU RUU_Vivo_W_Gingerbread_S_VERIZON_WWE_5.10.605.9_Radio_1.09.01.1111_NV_VZW1.92_release_225831_signed.exe
and extracted the included rom.zip to grab all the .img files (btw what's up with the 256 byte header in that zip? some kind of signature?)
Setup USB drivers on my PC so fastboot can talk with the phone
Attempted to use fastboot flash and fastboot boot to replace or temporarily use the boot_signed.img and got signature verify fail because HBOOT is locked.
Used fastboot to retrieve identifier token
Attempted to unlock HBOOT from HTCDEV
Unlocking Bootloader Failed with Error Code: 172. Error Reason: CID Not Allowed (MID not exist in Model Rule).
Was relieved to discover that it didn't work when I read that unlocking HBOOT erases all my data by design. (In the dozens of articles I've researched, nobody bothered to mention that small detail.)
Background:
I don't really care about the phone itself, but if at all possible, I need to recover the calendar data from it; I use calendar after client appointments to track time spent onsite. Google calendar sync went crazy about 6 weeks ago and any event I created on the phone would be immediately deleted from the phone. To solve this and keep tracking my time (yes, I know I should have just upgraded my phone at that point), I had to disable sync with Google, so the data exists only on the phone. Basically what I'm looking at is the only record of all my billable time for the last 6 weeks (most of my clients are on net30 or net60), so this is very important.
I never rooted the phone because of the requirement for the 2.3.3 downgrade and the subsequent data wipe, and the lack of backup options without root.

[Q] [q] help - phone stuck after ota orange uk update failure

Hi All...
I have a prom with my Orange DHD...I was updating to the latest OTA but the update failed and now all i get when i start up is the green circular arrows for a few seconds and then the red triangle with exclamation mark.
I can access HBOOT and FASTBOOT menus, but Factory Reset and Recovery do not work (bot result in the red triangle)
I had a look on the SD card, but no update files were on the root of the card...
It looks like the download of the rom was corrupted and not saved...
Having done a bit of research here i tried to put a stock PD98DIAG.zip from a 2.3.5 WEE RUU onto the SD card root and went to HBOOT, but that failed as the checks failed with the below errors:
no image for PD98DIAG.zip,
no image or wrong image for PD98DIAG.nbh and PD98IMG.zip etc.
and also as the CID was incorrect
(assuming my phone CID is ORANG001, so not accepting the WWE?).
So...my question is before i get HTC to take it back as its under warranty and lose my phone for up to a month (i go on holiday next week and am not back till Easter - but would liek it with me on the trip), is there a method i can put a rom on to at least get the phone to boot and then do an update again?
When i plug the phone to usb the phone recognises the connection but my pc asks for Android 1.0 drivers (even though HTC Sync and the HTC Drivers are installed)
Can i run any RUU from my PC to get the phone up if the PC isnt loading the HTC Android 1.0 drivers?
I guess what i'm looking for is step by step instructions on getting the phone back up conisidering all i can currently do is access HBOOT...What are the risks of rooting going wrong and bricking the phone?
the HBOOT details are:

Thanks guys...
Your phone isn't rooted so you can't install any other roms. There's various guides on how to root your phone, some easier than others depending on the stock. Personally I had to update to a newer rom that had an exploit in it that allowed me to install an earlier version that allowed rooting. From there you can then permanently root the phone.
The best thing would be to search for guides on rooting a desire hd on orange (I'm on 3 so may be slightly different), then you can always reinstall your stock rom if you want

Your phone isn't rooted (the LOCKED message on bootloader screen) which is why you can't flash the PD98 image or any other ROM/RUU for that matter that is not digitally signed by Orange.
If you have warranty I don't suggest rooting it as this might void the warranty, especially if your phone still doesn't work after rooting. Perhaps it would be easier for Orange to fix it?

Let me start off by saying I'm an old man and I need some help from you whipper snappers. I am such a noob at the phone thing, and have been reading and searching threads for three days to no avail.
Ok. my wife dropped her phone in the washer so we ordered her a new one just like the old one. It came with the 2.1 version of the software. She couldn't download any apps that she needed (no Google play store) so I went searching for how to install the update manually.
Found the update.zip file and put it on the SD card then rebooted the phone to the boot menu and ran the update.zip now the phone only boots to the fastboot menu.
I tried to do a recovery and a factory reset and can access everything in the fastboot menu.
So I thought just go follow the guide and root the phone and then remembered usb debugging is off
Then I went and found a RUU file and ran it with the same result.
Since then I have tried many different RUU files froyo, gingerbread just to name a few as well as the PB31IMG for each .
I am just completely stuck here. I am somewhat computer literate
Ok I've done a little more digging and when I try to do a factory reset I get the error
"E: invalid command argument
E: cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (or /dev/block/mmcblk1)
( no such file or directory)"
I'm also getting an error that says "E: can't open /cache/recovery/command"
Anybody?
did you atleast unlock your incredible and then root it successfully (s-off) before you tried going flashing anything?
did read this thread?

[Q] flash 4ext recovery

Hey there,
I hava a strange situation here.
I rooted my phone a while ago. These days I wanted to sell the phone and therefore getting back the stock rom. Didn't worked like I wanted and for some reason I put a PC10IMG.zip on the sdcard (which is the PC10IMG.zip from one of those guides e.g. shenye.co.uk/files/fya-vision-root/PC10IMG.zip) and it installed this one.
Now all seems to be the stock rom and everything fine but I recognized that I cannot access the recovery mode. Actually there comes only a picture of a phone with a red warning sign where I can only remove battery to restart.
In bootloader it says
Code:
VISION PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.85.0008

eMMC-boot

Trying fastboot flash recovery recovery.img results in writing 'recovery' ... FAILED (remote: not allowed)
Also trying the guide from my first rooting on gaining temp root fails on the fre3vo debug part as no exploit is being found.
I have absolutely no idea here. Could someone help me?
That's stock recovery, all is back yo stock except being s-off
You can't flash through fastboot right now due to shipped bootloader
But in the state it is in sounds nearly stock to me

Ok but what would be the way to "install" a recovery mode? Because right now there isn't any or at least it isn't accessible.
When I go into recovery, I only see this: (picture can be seen at wornermath.de/pictures/recovery_vision.jpg)
That's stock, just press both volume keys in there and options appear (or a combo of other keys, forget)
Ok, I got it. Thought it is something like an error screen.
Power and volume key up is the combo.
In there I can Reboot, Apply sdcard:update.zip, Wipe data/factory reset, Wipe cache partition.
Below all it says: E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
Is this normal?
Yeah, that happens, most often its nothing to worry about, just reboot, test everything, if all is good just boot back to recovery and do a factory reset then you can sell it
Ok thanks. Made a factory reset and wiped cache. Error still occurs.
But I'm interested why I cant gain temp root with the fre3vo debug? Maybe the new owner of the phone wants to root it again...
If they do they just need to flash a modified PC10IMG.zip to get an engineering bootloader and then they can do as they please from there

[Q] Desire HD needs SD Card reboot - Which ROM?

Up until yesterday I had a great little HTC Desire HD, A9191 with rooted gingerbread 2.3.5, an unlocked bootloader (from htcdev), S-ON - and everything in my garden was rosy... Then I tried to get too clever and pushed a new hosts file to /system/etc while I had su privileges.
This was a big file (540K) which I had been using quite happily on Windows to keep adware at bay. However, I now think it caused the phone to fail because the first time I tried to boot up after the push, it started looping round the boot sequence indefinitely. I am wondering if the IP for localhost, being 127.0.0.1, is incompatible with linux...? Anyway, that's a job for tomorrow because before I can think about draining the swamp there are some "alligators" to deal with...
While this continuous re-booting was going on I found I could still do "adb shell" and run "su" but all my attempts to restore hosts to the original file were futile because at this point the file system was "read-only" even for root. Then I made my biggest error which was to attempt "RECOVERY" from the boot menu...... ( I think my previous attempt to create a recovery file failed and I must have just forgotten to attend to it.)
The boot loader still responds and I am now looking at the boot screen which says:

<VOL DOWN> to next item

FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
==============================================
Here's what happens with these various options:
1. Normal boot ends with "Sorry! Process system is not responding" and two buttons "Force close" and "Wait" - but in reality the phone is simply hung...
2. FASTBOOT ends with a phone gif and a red triangle / exclamation mark.
3. RECOVERY also ends with a phone gif and a red triangle / exclamation mark.
4. FACTORY RESET runs a black/white barber pole and sd card symbol for 2 minutes, then reboots as far as "quietly brilliant" but this then ends up the same as 1. above.
5. SIMLOCK produces this output:
FAT32 init OK
Open MCCMNC file fail
Open CID file fail
Process done, reboot device?
<VOL UP> Yes
6. IMAGE CRC produces this output:
osbl: 0x3AA5FD29
amss: 0xD791CCA8
hboot: 0xFB10D632
boot: 0x8446CCFD
recovery: 0x0x88F60913
system: 0x898C2200
When I put an sd card in the slot and press and hold the power button with HBOOT highlighted it produces this:
SD checking...
Loading...[PD98DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PD98DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PD98IMG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PD98IMG.nbh
No image or wrong image!
So am I right in thinking that it's not quite dead yet and still recoverable? I have made a few attempts to position ROM files in the root of the sd card, but so far without success.
Could someone please tell me (assuming it's not bricked yet) what file(s) I need to put on the sd card to stand any chance of recovering. Previously I had downloaded the nearest "stock rom" to the phone's original but this came as a .exe which just compounded my confusion as to what needs to be done.
Here's hoping...
Happy New Year to all.
Having some problem giogke play store.
I download the latest jellytime 4.3 and cw Google app 4.3 as well. Everything works just finebut keep trying to download ssomething's from Google play store by using WiFi but it just don't work, am I missing something? I can search anything in play store, but hen I try to download it, it just won't run. Please give me some advice, thanks a lot.
