[Q] "SD Card mounted as read-only"?

Hi,
I'm posting this issue second time. I have a class 2 SD card with almost 1700mb of ext3 partition. the problem is that my SD turns to read only when accessing some files from my sd card. it says in the notification SD card mounted as a read only and then say "tap" to resolve the card responded unexpectedly.
tapping on it sometimes help if i remove the files that I was trying to access that created the problem. otherwise it mounts it as read only.

Hi, you sure your card is a genuine one? The problems you are having are identical to what I had. Turns out my 32gb card was in fact an 8gb card, and the problem was when capacity was reached it would go to read only. The only way to rectify this was to take the card out, place it in my PC card reader right click on properties of the drive and run the error checking tool. Hope this helps. Got my money back anyway thought £36 was a bit cheap lol! Try writing a large file to the card using your Computer, this should give you an indication if the card is genuine or not.

Card is genuine. I have placed my card several times in my brothers htc hd and formatted it through windows. its almost 8 gb i checked it on windows. last time I deleted a folder which has wiered name as if the folder was corrupted. I deleted that folder n it was running fine again. but its back again.
mine came with telus, so it should be genuine. what does class signify? like i have class 2, what does it mean?

CLass is the speed of read and writes.
I recently had a problen like this it turned out to be a corrupt file in the .secure folder used for apps to sd.

then I guess its because of corrupt files but why is it so often specially when I copy something from windows.

I had this problem once after disconnecting from a Windows PC, simply connect the sd car directly to a computer and run the windows verification tool, it finds the corrupt file and your sd card starts working again

hey i recently had the same problem ,, but i figured it out and this method should work fine...!!

do this every time you connect your phone to the system ..!!!
ok now solution for your problem..
>reboot your phone to recovery mode using rom manager...

or
2.mount your sd-card and check for errors in windows,,,
this should fix your problem ..
remember ,,next time when you are connecting your phone don't direly unplug the the cable..!!

The Class number represents a multiple of 1 MB/s
So if 2 is written on ur SD card then it means that its capable of a read speed of 3MB/s

- Not always true, its happened to me on several occassions when not connected to PC etc... Flickie HD caused mine
If you have a mac the fix is - disk utilities - repair card
Full format I found to be better though

[Q] Class 6 MicroSD card 'disappears' in XP

Just want to know if the Desire HD has problems accessing the microSd card (especially if it's a class 6) when connected to a PC in 'Hard Drive' mode
Let me explain...
Firstly - I have a rooted phone with Android Revolution HD (v5.2.3)
I had the original 8Gb Class 2 card that came with the phone, which I swapped with a Kingston 8Gb class 4... had no problems with it.
I could connect up the phone to my PC (Windows XP + SP3) as 'Disk Drive' & copy files back & forth between them with no problems - no matter how large they are or what type
The 8Gb got a 'little full' recently (I filled it with APK Backups,Music ,ebooks & 'comics' etc), so brought a Samsung 16Gb Class 6 from Amazon
I connected up to phone as 'Disk Drive' & copied over the contents of the phone DIRECTLY to the 16Gb (which was in a Card reader) with no problems.. then put the 16Gb into the phone (after unmounting etc safely) & all apps etc work fine.
NOW - If I connect the phone up as 'Disk Drive' to the PC, although I can copy OFF the 16Gb to the PC with no problems,
If I try copying file ONTO the 16Gb (regardless of size/type)... I MAY be lucky enough getting 2-5 files across before XP 'loses' the drive & asks 'Please insert a disk into drive...'
Now I'm pretty sure it's not XP the problem - I can put the 16Gb into a card reader & files copy over with no problems (I've plugged the card reader into motherboard USB, front panel USB and even through a USB Hub)... it only seems to happen if I access the card through the Phone.
Is this because -
it's a Class 6 card...
A problem with the Phone design...
Due to ARHD Rom (if so would updating to the latest version fix this ??),
or is there a way to prevent XP from losing connection ??​Many thanks in advance

I think its a bug in that rom. It does not have anything to do with sd card, if you can, update it or just try any other rom and i am sure it will work.

I may just try that in the future - just don't want to install a new ROM (It'll have to be latest ARHD anyway, as I have a full HTC Navigation licence) & then have to reinstall everything (yet again)
However I can currently get around this little 'problem' by using 'File expert' app & using FTP over my WiFi, as that seems to work OK,... a lot easier than having to remove the SD card each time

Upgraded to Note 2 N7105 International version 4 weeks ago, great phone and really loving all the features.
Trouble is I bought this because I wanted a more powerful phone than my previous Nexus S, so It could handle more powerful apps and games.
So on top of the internal 16gb of internal memory, I installed a Sandisk 64gb external card to store my apps and games, not realizing the phone does not support moving Apps to SD in standard form.
After investigating, found i could do it with a third party app with root access. So I rooted with Chainfires CF Auto Root, and installed link2sd App. My phone is definitely rooted as I have Titanium Backup working, but when i try to move any Apps to SD it says no free memory, and also to check SD card has been formatted with 2 partitions and they are both set to primary, and on the info page for link2sd its says the same about partitioning
I assume this formatting is my problem as the SD card is virtually empty, just 3 pics and 2 short videos on it, and still showing 59gb free when i go to settings/storage.
If this is my problem, how do I get it formatted correctly, I tried to do it through my computer running XP but only get format command, with no option for Partitions or any thing, are there any programs or procedures you can recommend

There is a mod that lets you swap internal memory with sd card. Have a look in this threat.
If you only need to format your sd card to FAT 32 then you should get the GUI version of this app here

Have decided not to go down the internal external memory swap route, for various operational reasons, plus quite a few people seem to be getting issues with it. And the other one didn't seem to have a facility to make your own partitions, which is what i need.
After reading up a bit, From recommendations I have installed a program called Minitool Partition Wizard on my computer.
The only problem now is when i attach the card to the computer, it is showing as only having 27gb of usable memory, whereas in the phone it was showing 59gb. I thought this may be because it needed reformatting, so I formatted on the computer, and it was then only showing 27gb i when inserted in the phone, so i have again reformatted the card in the phone, and again now showing 59gb as it was originally. But i still still only have1 partition, and need 2 for the link2sd program to work
The trouble is when i put the SD back in the the computer it still only shows 27gb that is 32gb short of the 59gb what it shows while in the phone.
Was wondering why this should be, I'm running an old Pentium 4 system with XP on it, would it be that this can not handle or recognise 64 gb cards.
Just to mention i will be upgrading this computer 2 Windows 7 within the next week or so, and also going to build a brand new one in a couple of weeks which will have Windows 7 also , so should be a lot more compatible and flexible if that is the problem

I've been reading up, and it seems, Windows, especially earlier versions cannot recognize or format SD Cards over 32 gb, something to do with errors in the architecture, which wasn't originally designed for cards of this size.
There is a driver update, to get over this, but negotiating the Microsoft site to download it is proving to be a bit of a mission, It's ridiculously complicated, just sending me round and around in circles to try and find the download.
So if anyone can point me to the download, or a download that will do the job it will be much appreciated

Download exfat support for old XP machine
Download and use file according your XP system 32/64bit
you will get format with exfat format. which support larger size.
Another thing i recommend is 'directory bind' for moving data to ext SD card, this also make hassle free factory reset, Here is guide.

I've already got the exFat support loaded, though it still only shows 27 gb on card
Now looking at the directory bind, and may give that a try later, once I've given it a good read and know i'm not going to do anything wrong .
Will let you know later how it goes

I'm actually surprised the phone supports higher than Windows. Most phones are limited to 32 gb cards are they not?

Ketan yes I've tried to format on computer with exfat support, but still only shows 27gb, and when i put back in phone it showed 27gb in there too, so had to reformat it in the phone and now showing 59gb as it was originally,

I am going to upgrade my XP up to windows 7 in a couple of weeks, and also going to build a new games machine with Windows 7 on in a few weeks too, do you reckon they will have better support for the higher capacity card built in

I've been spending waaay to much time trying to get this phone to work as I had expected with previous phones (even my LG G2x) giving me less problems. I recently bought a Sandisk 32gb, class 10 micro sd card and after transferring old music, pictures and videos from my old LG G2x with a 16gb card, placing files from my computer back onto my S4 with the 32gb card is a nightmare! Photos are transferred but too out of order to try and deal with although it's more the music problem that has me bugging. I have some success after putting about 3gb or so onto the new*32gb sd card but after that, the sd card flips out and starts using special characters for file names. Below I attached a screenshot of what I'm going through with another app called V1 Golf for Android. I'm stuck and any help is much appreciated. I can't delete anything on my sd card nor can I add. I've reformatted this card about 4 times now without success. Some say that a Sandisk have been nothing but problems for them, you think a Samsung card could be the fix?
I'm also running windows 7 on my computer as some people have said that could interfere with the transfer but it seems like that's not the problem being that downloading apps from google play shows corrupted files depicted below.

First, did you format this 32gb sdcard using fat32, exFAT or NTFS or ?
If you did not format it with fat32 then that could have caused the problem.
First you need to remove the card from the phone and plug it into your
computer using the adaptor which came with the microsd card so it can be
tested and repaired in windows.
Once the card is plugged into the computer and it's recognized by windows make note of the drive letter.
Then open a cmd prompt in windows by going to the start menu clicking on RUN then type "CMD" and click OK to open the DOS prompt.
Then in the black DOS window type: chkdsk E: /F then press "enter" to scan and fix errors on your microsd card.
NOTE: The E: is just an example, check the actual drive letter of the sdcard which is plugged into the computer.
Please note, doing the above will not delete any files or folders unless they are deemed unusable and cannot be fixed.
The chkdsk will NOT not format your microsd card.

Unfortunately I ran into a very similar situation with a 64gb SanDisk card. After several months of using it successfully without issue, out of nowhere some 20 gigs of data were stuck. It seems that 1 file in a nandroid was corrupt. After formatting, re-partitioning, deleting etc, etc. with Windows 7 as well as MiniTool Partition Wizard I was unable to ever get the corrupt file to delete. Thus leaving the $60+ card useless and a prime candidate for the trash. I chalked it up too a "bizarre" instance. I have since purchased 2 64gb cards, one to replace and one for my new S4. Haven't had the issue since (knock on wood). Not sure what the exact culprit was, the recovery? (TWRP), a freak occurrance? or Just a defective card? If you have any luck saving your card please post how you did. Although I realize this probably isn't helpful except to know your not the only one.

Had the same thing just happen to me. Transferred a few kernel files yesterday and today couldn't delete, add or format anything. I was able to copy all files to computer but that's it.

same thing happen to my sandisk 64gb class 10 microsdcard as well
is it a virus?

I had the exact same issue with a San-disk 64gb micro sdcard, I contacted San-disk, they offered me a replacement card.I suggest you do the same, hopefully they will exchange it for you.

You can use another SD card to try whether this sd card is dead.
If anothe SD card can delete files, it proves that this sd card is dead, vice versa.

Did your problem solve? I'm experiencing now like with your problem. And I'm looking for an answer.

[Q] Copy files from Windows

This is a brand new 16GB Wifi Galaxy Tab 10.1 2014 Edition. All I've done is let it update firmware and the multitude of apps that came installed on it. Hardware upgrade consisted of adding a 64GB microSD card. I removed it once I found out I couldn't copy files to it.
I'm trying to copy files to the tab. I'm using the usb cable that came with it. When I connect the tablet to a PC it installs the drivers without error. I go to Windows Explorer and I can see the file system on the tablet. I try to create a folder, (EG in Downloads) on the tablet from windows explorer and I get an error after a minute or so -> "The new folder could not be created in this location. The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected." This error occurs with and without the sdcard installed when writing to internal or external memory.
The tablet is set up so USB is connected as a media device.
I also tried Kies 3 but results were similar, except that the error in kies was less informative.
Same errors/problems occur from 2 different PCs - a Win 7 Pro x64 and a Win 7 Ult x32.
I'm pretty frustrated now. I've spent a couplke hours messing with this thing. One of the reasons I bought it over a ipad was so I could easily transfer files. It's turning out it worse that Apple & their itunes junk.

I found one way to get files over. Pull the microSD, put it in a USB card reader, attach to my PC, transfer the files to the card and replace the card in the tablet.

Both the tablet and micro-sd cards are there and I had no trouble creating a new folder and copying files to it for either one. So, no problems there. How is the card formatted? NTFS,FAT32, etc

I did the copy at work and now I'm home. I insert the microSD and all the files are there. Only ths file names are gibberish. This card was initialized in the tablet.
I leave tomorrow am early for a 2 week vacation. This tablet was bought specifically so I could do some reading while on vacation.
This POS is going back. I should have bought an ipad. At least I would have something usable.

Your 64GB MIcroSD card is a SDXC -- you may want to check your card reader to make sure that it is SDXC capable and not just SDHC. If you're using a SD card reader built-in to a PC, chances are pretty good that it's not SDXC.
I just bought a Samsung 64GB UHS-I card for my 16GB Note 10.1 2014 and even though I have four different card readers (one of them just a couple months old), none of them can read or write to a SDXC card. So I plugged in my tablet to my USB port on my PC, and even though I know I have the latest Samsung drivers on it, it didn't recognize it as a storage device. I switched it to being a "camera" in the settings of the tablet and my desktop found both the internal 16GB card and the external 64GB card and I was able to copy all of my data from my other tablet's 32GB SDHC card over to the 64GB card that way.
Just FYI, I'm the only one in my family of six who has an Android tablet -- my wife and four children all have iPads, and I've had to setup/configure each one. I would rather slam my own head in a car door 25 times than configure even just one more frickin' iPad. Each one I encountered something completely different, there's little to no help on the internet (can't tell you how many times I was told, "You'll probably have to take it in to your local Apple Store's Genius Bar" for EVERY...SINGLE....ISSUE....I....ENCOUNTERED. And I'm not even USING these iPads -- I'm just trying to set them up, get them synced with long-time iTunes accounts, etc. If you want an iPad, go for it. Good luck!

I have no issues copying to my 32 GB SD card or the internal memory in the tablet itself. I should mention my 32 GB card is formatted as exFAT. Also, make sure your tablet is unlocked when you initially connect it. I found out with my galaxy note 2 that if I have a passcode on it and the device is locked, my pc will not recognize the storage present on the device until I unlock it.

It's b/c the file you're trying to copy over is corrupt.

I use ES File Explorer. There is a place to open shared folder in the network

You can also use Samsung Link so you don't have to use a USB connection. It provides root-level access on the mobile devices and PCs it's installed on.

Go to settings then General then "about device" tap on the build number 10 times and you will see Developer options appear. in developer options click USB debugging.
Hopefully this will allow you to see your sd card and you can then move files freely between your computer and the tablet.

This. Why are people doing things the hard way? I've been using ES for years to copy files from smb shares. Works perfect.

Not to steal the thread but this brings up a question. I used to use ES but it started popping up after every install or update. I deleted it. Is there a way to stop that from happening?

That was a bug. Lasted a few weeks and the dev fixed it.

It was a corrupt file... Guaranteed...
