I've been spending waaay to much time trying to get this phone to work as I had expected with previous phones (even my LG G2x) giving me less problems. I recently bought a Sandisk 32gb, class 10 micro sd card and after transferring old music, pictures and videos from my old LG G2x with a 16gb card, placing files from my computer back onto my S4 with the 32gb card is a nightmare! Photos are transferred but too out of order to try and deal with although it's more the music problem that has me bugging. I have some success after putting about 3gb or so onto the new*32gb sd card but after that, the sd card flips out and starts using special characters for file names. Below I attached a screenshot of what I'm going through with another app called V1 Golf for Android. I'm stuck and any help is much appreciated. I can't delete anything on my sd card nor can I add. I've reformatted this card about 4 times now without success. Some say that a Sandisk have been nothing but problems for them, you think a Samsung card could be the fix?
I'm also running windows 7 on my computer as some people have said that could interfere with the transfer but it seems like that's not the problem being that downloading apps from google play shows corrupted files depicted below.

First, did you format this 32gb sdcard using fat32, exFAT or NTFS or ?
If you did not format it with fat32 then that could have caused the problem.
First you need to remove the card from the phone and plug it into your
computer using the adaptor which came with the microsd card so it can be
tested and repaired in windows.
Once the card is plugged into the computer and it's recognized by windows make note of the drive letter.
Then open a cmd prompt in windows by going to the start menu clicking on RUN then type "CMD" and click OK to open the DOS prompt.
Then in the black DOS window type: chkdsk E: /F then press "enter" to scan and fix errors on your microsd card.
NOTE: The E: is just an example, check the actual drive letter of the sdcard which is plugged into the computer.
Please note, doing the above will not delete any files or folders unless they are deemed unusable and cannot be fixed.
The chkdsk will NOT not format your microsd card.
Good luck!

Unfortunately I ran into a very similar situation with a 64gb SanDisk card. After several months of using it successfully without issue, out of nowhere some 20 gigs of data were stuck. It seems that 1 file in a nandroid was corrupt. After formatting, re-partitioning, deleting etc, etc. with Windows 7 as well as MiniTool Partition Wizard I was unable to ever get the corrupt file to delete. Thus leaving the $60+ card useless and a prime candidate for the trash. I chalked it up too a "bizarre" instance. I have since purchased 2 64gb cards, one to replace and one for my new S4. Haven't had the issue since (knock on wood). Not sure what the exact culprit was, the recovery? (TWRP), a freak occurrance? or Just a defective card? If you have any luck saving your card please post how you did. Although I realize this probably isn't helpful except to know your not the only one.
My sd card seems to be stuck.
About 20 of 64 gb being used.
Now I can't delete anything. Or add anything.
It appears to delete and then it just comes back.
Does that mean my sd card is dead.
scandisk 64gb
Had the same thing just happen to me. Transferred a few kernel files yesterday and today couldn't delete, add or format anything. I was able to copy all files to computer but that's it.
same thing happen to my sandisk 64gb class 10 microsdcard as well
is it a virus?
I had the exact same issue with a San-disk 64gb micro sdcard, I contacted San-disk, they offered me a replacement card.I suggest you do the same, hopefully they will exchange it for you.

You can use another SD card to try whether this sd card is dead.
If anothe SD card can delete files, it proves that this sd card is dead, vice versa.
Did your problem solve? I'm experiencing now like with your problem. And I'm looking for an answer.

from y'day.. sometimes i get the below message when i switch the phone
"phone could not able to backup data to SD card"...
The phone seems to lose access rights to the SD Card, so nothing is displayed in the file manager (estrong or Astor) The only way to fix this is to restart the phone.
in the phone settings-> SD scard option, I still have the option to unmount the SD card.. but then I don't know who to mount it back.. the only way i am able to fix it is by restarting the phone...
from y'day till now I got this problem for 3 times..
Anybody else having problems with this? please help..
Hi, I have the same issuses. It is very annoying, especially when taking photos. I tried reformat card, but it worked only for a week. I have got euro version, firmware 1.15.405.4. I hope HTC will solve this issue together with multitouch issues in next firmware.
I bought a 16Gb card and cannot get it to work in the Desire.
I've tested it in the PC, formatted it etc but it still won't work.
I'm not convinced where the fault lies, with the card or the Desire.
I had a problem once with sd+camera app, but after a reboot everything worked
funny enuff. that happened to me 2 yesterday ?
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
One of my 16GB cards also got corrupted. I found it did not slide into the SDHC card slot properly and did become dislodged. Check to see if the SD card is inerted correctly. My replacement 8GB seems fine.

I have 16 GB Kingston Class 2 in my Desire and no problem so far, quite cheap too.
I have had this a couple of times.
Install the SDMount Widget. Unmount the card in settings, click the widget, back in business.

This doesn't work. I have the same problem as described above. I just ordered a new 8gb SD Card. I hope it's an SD card problem and not something wrong with the phone
Thread with same discussion here if you wanna check it out.
I've also been having SD card issues since I got the phone but yesterday things got worse!
After the problem occured again, I thought I'd try removing and reinserting the SD card (despite having done this before). When I restarted the phone it came up with a this message on the notification bar:
Blank SD Card
SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem.
I've tried reformatting the card in the phone, with the phone attached to my comp via USB, and with the card in a card reader. None of this works; the computer just doesn't recognise the card.
I've just emailed HTC support with the problem. I'll report back when I get an answer.
Also 16GB issue
Since a few days I have issues with my 16GB card also. I tried to install Navigon on the card by copying files directly to the card. After inserting it into the phone two out of three directories were empty....
Trying to copy fromt the pc to the Desire using it as a disk drive gave me the blue screen of death
I tried to install it using the original 4GB card and everything works like a charm
I tested the 16GB card (forgot what tool, it was a 1 month trial without write testing) and the card came out fats enough and without any bad blocks.
I will do a write test this evening (EU time) to see if I can fit 16GB ont the card, but everything points to the phone at this moment

I've had exactly the same problem which I posted about in another thread. Do let us know if HTC get back to you
Same problem with my Desire and a Sandik 16 Gb Class 2...
The card works fine on my mp3 player, but it is not recognized by the phone. I'm going to contact HTC, too.
My Desire has complained twice now that my 16GB SD card is damaged and needs to be reformatted. But when I put it in my Nokia N97, it works fine. The last time I did a disk check in XP, and that took care of the problem for a while at least, but it seems strange that the problem appeared in the first place.
Having invested in a 16gb class 2 Kingston card for my desire I can tell you that it brings nothing but grief. I then purchased a 8gb class 6 pqi branded card and found it to be flawless in performance. One thing I noticed with the class 6 card is the very fast speed in copying to and from the card. Much faster than the Kingston class 2. On the class 6 card I have never had corruption of data or any problem. I see comments posted that the class makes no difference. In my experience it makes a huge difference.
you guys are having issues with your 8GB/16GB cards, i was considering getting a 32GB a few days from now, after reading all this i'm having second thoughts.. does size matter ? (pardon the pun)
I don't think the size of the card should matter, but then again - it just might. I was wondering if there's a slight possibility my card got corrupted from when I've had it connected to my computer in disk mode. I only use the "safe disconnection of hardware" button in XP, but I don't select to unmount it on the Desire - it shouldn't be a problem, but perhaps that's how it got broken. Or perhaps it's just damaged and glitchy
Make sure the MBR is formatted too. Windows does not do this by default. Search for a tool on the internet.
Hey guys I just wanted to ask u all a question bout upgrading sd cards on the Evo. I just purchased a Lexar 32gb class 10 sd card from Amazon. I still hav the stock 8gb card that has all my data....music,movies,music videos, custom roms, kernals amd so on. I hav heard that some people are having problems with changing their cards. So my question is what is the proper procedure to getting this transfer to be successful. Is it better to format new card thru windows or phone? Do I need to partition the new card? What is the easiest procedure to transfer my 8GB card stuff to my new 32gb card. The reason Im asking is I dont want to corrupt the new card in anyway...as u all kno they are NOT CHEAP!!! I just want the transition to workout smoothly with NO problems. Any advice wud b much appreciated. Thanks Yall!!! Evo runnin MikFroyo v4.61 w/ netarchy-toastmod-4.3.4-cfs-havs-more-nososbc...overclocked to 1152mhz.
Copy the contents of your current card onto your computer or an external drive. Shutdown your device. Remove your current card and replace it with your new card. Make sure your device supports the 32 GB size. Reboot your device. Many cards already come formatted, however, it wont hurt to reformat it to be sure. When your phone finish booting up, go to the SD card and phone storage setting within the menu. Select unmount SD card. After it unmounts, the option to format it will appear. Select format. When finished, select mount. Back out of that menu back to your homescreen. Connect your device via USB to your computer or external drive and transfer the items you copied to your newly formatted card. Reboot your device when you're finished. You can also format from your computer and from within recovery. Take your pick.

If am not wrong EVO supports max 16 GB and EVO Shift is 32 GB
^You're mistaken, the EVO does support the 32gb.
Says so on the HTC support page for EVO
Whew, you had me scared for a moment... I just ordered the same 32 gb microSD this morning. :]
I've been through 2 lexar 32gb cards. Within a matter of weeks to days, I was getting data corruption. Not sure if it's limited to the lexar class 10 cards, or any class 10. It would appear to function fine at first. At some point during the day i'd go to check my email and get a sd card mounted in read only mode message on the status bar. Rebooting would usually not help. Had to hook up the phone to the pc, mount the sd in recovery, then run a chkdsk. I'd typically get many many corrupted files.
Now mind you, i'm always careful to shutdown properly, only mount the sd when recovery. I've come to the conclusion that there is some incompatibility issue either due to the size, or perhaps lexar's ability to be downward compatible with the slower speed devices (I think the evo can only take advantage of up to class 6 devices).
Lets hope you have better luck than I did, but after multiple corrupted files, I'm back with the stock card, which has caused no issues at all (besides being low on space).
i have 32g patriot class 10 card and it works great for me. i just transfered my old sd card stuff onto my computer via the card adapter it came with. i inserted and formatted my new card into my phone. and transfered everything from my computer tomy phone via usb.
Ditto on the formatting with the phone. Since i am using ext, it had to be via the phone as I don't have the right tools to do it in windows.
FWIW, with the initial lexar card, there were no problems for nearly 3 weeks. With the replacement card they sent me, issues started showing up 2 days later. Could be my phone is less tolerant of media quality than others..
one thing you need to remember when copying the files, is to hit the option to see the the hidden files on your sd card, if you dont your phone will have glitches because it will be missing those files, because when they are hidden they dont get copied
Hate to hijack here but it's along the same lines.
If I don't listen to music or take a bunch of pictures what if any difference will I notice upgrading my class? Sorry I am coming from a Vibrant that had 14gigs internal and the sc card was purely optional.
I was thinking about just getting an 8 gig class 10 if it would make a difference.
pc to dupe sd card?
Could you just copy the sd card using an adaptor to your pc hard drive, then copy the files onto the larger sd card, again using the adapter in the pc. then install the new sd card into the phone? I am new, to this, i'm just askin.
blairan...I think you wud b safe to do that but u must format the new sd card first via phone(itself) or thru windows before any transfer of data is made. My question was simply that I hav read that many people hav had complaints bout corrupted files being present thru their new cards. Or problems with "read only" errors and not being able to access things on the card. If u are rooted and are running a custom ROM that allows Apps2sd to help free up internal memory on ur phone then u wud also need to partition the card as well to allow that. I just dont understand why their have been so many people having these problems with the 32g class 10 cards.
blairan...Im pretty sure u wud be safe to do that but if it is a new card u must make sure it is formatted first via phone itself or windows before u transfer anything to it. My question was simply I dont understand why so many people have complained bout corrupted files and or read-only errors on the 32g class 10 cards. Problems that seem to arise days or weeks later after installing new cards. I wud really like to get to the bottom of it and find out why.

If anything, you'd probably notice quicker loading from apps that you've moved to the SD card. But admittedly, video, music, and photos are the places you'd see the most tangible improvement.
Doug,
I've tried this several times (I think I'm up to double digits, now) on my rooted Evo running the stock ROM. After I transfer all the files and reboot, several apps are not installed and the phone says it has a low amount of space. I've tried restoring a Clockwork Mod backup as well and I get the same thing. I have everything backed up in Astro, but when I try to install the missing apps, the low memory issue prevents them from being installed. Should I remove all my apps and start over? Should I un-root my phone and do a factory reset? I'm so frustrated I'm about to do the latter.
I'm upgrading to a 32GB class 10 card and I just can't figure it out. Any thoughts?

No, you do not need to unroot, but I do recommend you start from scratch. Since you already have the contents of your card backed up to your computer, go into recovery and re-partition and re-format your card. In amon_RA select "partition SD card" from the main menu. You will be prompted to set a size for 3 different things. Insert a zero each time. Doing so will allow you access to your entire card. Afterwards, copy the rom you want to use to the card via the MS-USB or the Mount USB option, if using ClockworkMod and flash it. Your paid apps will be listed in the Market after you've logged in with your credentials. Your unpaid apps will have to be redownloaded and reinstalled unless you have them backed up to Google's servers or backed up with Titanium Backup. Anyway, you will have a clean install of your rom, a clean install of your apps and a freshly formatted and partitioned SD card. If you still get the low memory error afterwards then I am assuming you have too many apps on your internal memory and thus, you will need to move many of them to your SD card to free up your internal memory. There are tutorials available to learn apps2sd. Anyway, I hope this helps you.

Hi everyone,
I am having an issue with my SD card and hope someone can help.
I have bought an SD card for my HTC Desire HD. This is a Lexar (High-Speed) 32GB Micro SD-HC card. I have had this for around 3 months.
All has worked well until recently. I have been unable to sync and access anything on the card. For example, I use root explorer on the mobile to view all of the files within the SD card. This has worked previously, but recently hasn't. When I try to view the SD card files the app crashes.
Also, when I try to sync any files to the mobile using HTC sync, the sync seems to progress and complete according to my PC, but nothing seems to be available on the SD card. I tried to sync music files to the card, HTC sync carried the sync out to my phone, but nothing is showing when I use this with any music apps.
I am now constantly receiving messages on my mobile asking me to download my language pack again for my SMS application. I may also receive a message saying the SD card is read only, press here to fix. I have tried to press this and the SD card seems to be re-set but doesn't actually fix anything.
I have also tried to format the SD card through the phone. Have taken the SD card out of the phone and re-inserted this. Still no luck.
Does anyone have any idea as to what else I can possibly do or is this SD card basically become faulty and I'm going to have to replace this?
Any help and suggestions are much appreciated.
I think your SD card just became problematic, and maybe soon it will become unusable too. Maybe you should try replacing it if it still in warranty time. (life-time wrranty?).
sd card
Maybe your card is broken. You'd better buy a new one.
Have your tried to read your SD with your computer?
Lexar
I don't want to extrapolate from my Lexar SD Card to every other SD Card of the same brand, but my Lexar 16 GB class 6 card had a lifetime of roughly 3 months, too and then started to make problems. Coincidence..??
I had a case of total data loss including bad sectors etc...
Even reformatting at the PC and doing a chkdsk helped only for another few weeks, then the first bad sectors re-appeared.
I changed now to a SanDisk which was much cheaper and is faster anyway, despite the fact that it has no class XX defintion printed on. ;-)
But regular backup is your friend, anyway, nandroid and titanium saved my day, at least to 90% of the data.
cheers
Fritz

Yeah, I can read the card on my PC. I try to add files manually on to the card (without HTC sync) this adds but when I try to view with the mobile and doesn't seem to show the file. I then try to read the card again and the file I have added has gone.
Thanks for the help guys. I think I'll buy a new card and go for sandisk. I'll try and find one with a good warranty or lifetime warranty. Anyone got examples of cards or suppliers who provide a lifetime warranty?
Hello, I'm new to the forums.
Today I bought a 32 GB MicroSDHC memory card for my at&t s3.
Behaviours:
1) I inserted it into my phone and then I tried taking some photos. I set the output path to the card and I took a picture. The picture was successfully saved to the sd card, but when I tried taking a second picture, I received an error: "Cannot write file in SD card. Default storage set to Phone". If I try again to set the memory card as default storage I can again take another photo, but the next one will fail as described again.
2) With SD card mounted to the S3, I plug in the USB to connect it to my computer. I can then see the card and view the files on it. However, I'm unable to write anything on it. (Copying something to the card will freeze my windows explorer)
3) If I insert the card into my computer via adapter, then all works fine. I can write to it fine.
It seems that the problem only occurs when the sd card is used by the S3.
Note: I have checked the card for read-only notches and it has no such thing.
Note2: I have a rooted phone running JB 4.1.1 stock.
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Maybe you can try reformatting it.
reformat it in what way? I've already tried exFat, Fat32 and NTFS. NTFS and exFat give a "blank card" error, while Fat32 won't let me write stuff like I described. And I've reformat the card a couple of times already.
Edit: well, I did so using windows format app.
Do you know of other better apps?
Also I forgot to mention that I can't format the card via samsung s3 built-in app because it always returns "blank error" in that case.

I also had a problem with a new card and I took mine out and put it back in the phone and it finally worked. I just made sure it was pushed in all the way and seated properly.
I have just tried to use the card on a Galaxy S Plus. It worked flawlessly. I format it from that phone and then I inserted it into the Galaxy S3. It still won't work on the S3.
Why is this? I'm becoming desperate. This issue is bugging me a lot. Please any help will be appreciated.
Update: Even tried a galaxy S2. It works fine. Same problem on S3 though.
*deep breath*
I noticed that my Note II had bounced a rather small app update for lack of space on the phone. Okay, fine. I have a bunch of games on there (GTA is huge) and I guess I have to move/delete some stuff. Then I realize that my camera app has been storing stuff on the phone instead of the 64gb Class 10 Kingston SD card (in b4 "Kingston is crap!"). So I make that change and tell the phone to start saving photos to the SD card. Fine. There are already some photo files on the SD card, so I decide to use ES File Explorer to move the existing photos from my DCIM folder to the one on the SD card. ES tells me everything went fine, and a subsequent check confirmed this. All good so far.
Then I went for a drive and decided to play tracks off my phone. What? Nobody home. No music for some reason. Everything's gone. Fine, I'll look into it when I get home.
This morning: "Oh, I have a photo of that! Let me just get it..."
Nobody home.
Go to ES File Explorer, and all the files and folders on the stupid SD card are 404.
Go to my computer. Connect my Note II and look at the drives on the phone. Windows shows the phone's storage, and shows the card storage, which says there's stuff on there (as in, space is taken up). Click into the drive and... Nothing's there.
Unmount the SD in Settings and put it into a card reader. Maybe the phone's goofing up, right? Windows says that the card needs to be formatted (because it's using an unfamiliar filesystem).
Nuts.
Put the card back into the phone. The phone will recognize the filesystem, so it should be-- What?
Phone says the card is now blank or using an unsupported filesystem.
So there's my problem. How do I proceed? I know that stuff's on there. I just know there's something stupid going on that's preventing me from getting at it.
As long as I can yank my latest photos off there, I don't mind wiping the card and starting over, since it's just media stuff I was keeping on there anyway. What do I use to crack into it?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
UPDATE: Various file recovery apps (in both Windows and the phone) are telling me that the card now has truly nothing on it. There are many, many really great swear words I want to share with you right now, but am prohibited from using on this forum. It actually HURTS not to use them right now.
Why do people seem to have so many problems with 64gb Class 10 cards on the Note II?
I had similar problem, I was trying to use software for SGSII to map SD card as usb flash disk to a PC and it didn't work and when I disconnected I had same symptoms as you. I put the card in reader and connected to PC and repaired with Minitool (just search for "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition"). I lost couple of folders but most of it was ok.
Good luck!
Sounds like You have a Corrupted Boot sector.
Put the SD card in a Card Reader on Your Windows PC.
Open a Command Prompt and Type This - chkdsk /X /F <SD card drive letter>:
If Your SD card is Drive G, It would Look Like This - chkdsk /X /F G:
This will repair the Boot Sector if that is the Problem.
Put the SD card back in Your Phone and You should be Good To Go.
