There is a root that works for us now over in the unified development. Thank the guys over there. Easy just flash a tar via odin. Let it boot up. Reboot and BAM. Root.

Thanks to @mikeyinid and @g.lewarne for putting over 17 hours of work today and @bigbiff for a working 5.1.1 TWRP.
TWRP is for the G920xx but we do have root and thanks to bigbiff we probably will have a working recovery a little bit faster now.
Cool, hey isn't that tmobile's root checking app asking for permission?
Must root.

So if Im correct, we're only flashing the kernel in ODIN due to TWRP not being ready for 5.1 yet?
confirmed DOES NOT WORK ON TMOBILE S6 EDGE,
does this trip the Knox counter? I assume it does because it is a kernel

the phone is not actually running at those temperatures is just the unikernel doesn't read the correct temperature in our device but the phone is actually running regular temperatues the dev says is probably due to the unified device tree our sensors don't read correctly he was going to look into it

Alright folks, we're up and running. Just as the title says, this is the MK5 Boost/Virgin Mobile 4.3 update in flashable zip. Stock, zipaligned, basic. More to come in the future, but this should be enough to keep you busy for awhile. Enjoy!
PLEASE READ I've made a few changes to the wording of the OP, based on my own personal observations from running this build. This ROM is unrooted, even though it has the su and busybox "guts" in the build. Future builds will have all this cleaned up. In the meantime, when flashing, you must flash the SuperSU Update listed in the flashing instructions to regain root. Simple, I know Just thought I'd let you know! Enjoy.
Thanks:
Google, Samsung, XDA – For obvious reasons
Dsixda – For the Kitchen
@CNexus – Because frankly this couldn’t have been done without your help.
@Chainfire – SuperSU and everything else you do and continue to do. You’re a magician.
@Mr. Struck - for testing deodexed for me.
@TheBritton - For his help getting this shared around the other forums.

Flashing Instructions:
Note: Chances are you will have problems with root upon reboot. So to save yourself the headache, I would suggest downloading and flashing the SuperSU update from the get go.
If you don’t, and it works on its own, please let me know. But if you just flash it when you flash everything else you should be golden!
1. Update your recovery to latest TWRP, CWM, Philz, whatever you are using. I used Philz, found here:Link
2. Download ROM to phone
3. Download wifi fix from here(Thanks @CNexus): Link
4. Download SuperSU Update(See note!!): Link
5. Download Knox APP remover: Link This is Knox APP Remover, and WILL NOT REMOVE KNOX FROM THE BOOTLOADER! IT WAS NEVER INSTALLED!
6. Reboot to recovery, wipe cache/dalvik
7. Flash rom, wifi fix, SuperSU update, then knox APPS remover.
8. If you haven’t done so already, and you're having problems with data, I highly suggest flashing the MK5 modem(Thanks @CNexus): Link
9. Reboot, profit

I've seen that mod but didn't know if it was safe to flash on the virgin mobile build. Does that mod enable native tethering? I believe it's something in the MK5 kernel blocking tethering. I've tried all root apps like wireless tether, barnacle, etc all versions, betas, experimental to no avail.

I've done a clean flash of this rom 3x and everything works nicely. Every flash I've flashed the hotspot mod you referred to as the final step. Up til the final step of flashing hotspot everything works and then after I get stuck on Samsung boot screen all 3 times.I think it's safe to say that the hotspot mod does not work for this rom.

Again, lol, what he said. I was simply saying that IF you stay with stock you may have issues rooting that way - but I haven't. I stayed with stock because it has given me the most stable performance/battery life but with this phone people tend to have very different experiences. Not something to be concerned by, simply means you will have to test for yourself and see what works best for you/your needs. I still flash roms(Just flashed newest Vanir with Linaro Matr1x kernel - and boy is it fast!), but always have a stock nandroid backup to fall back to. The rooting guide will explain all of this but framaroot will give you root accesss, and an app called freegee will unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery(clockworkmod or twrp). At that point, I advise everyone to make a full backup in recovery(and to copy that backup to a pc for safe keeping) - then you are free to download and flash roms, kernels, mods, etc - to your hearts content. Anything goes wrong or doesnt work properly, you can just go back into recovery and restore your backup.
Framaroot was the bees knees for me. Used it at least 9 months ago and I've never had an issue.

I'm the guy that originally tried framaroot on our phone and I didn't have any issues running stock. Framaroot from the root guide, freegee from the play store, choose recovery, boom

After Updating to the newly updated firmware for both Sprint and the Boostmobile/VM variant, I am very sure a lot like me are facing difficulty with any workable method of rooting these new firmware. I spent up to three days searching OPs and cant actually find any guaranteed solution. So I am hoping this thread would help us find all the answers we need at one place. Those who have successfully rooted NJ2/NJ3 should share their method with us.

I saw the guide. Towelroot no longer works , as we all know.
I happen to use Linux as an OS, and the Odin alternatives didn't work for me (it's been a while so my memory of it was a little fuzzy) I didn't just give up after the first try or anything, I've asked question about it before.
I'm wondering if there could be an alternative to Towelroot at this time. Ideally I'd rather not have to rely on some program on my PC. I'm not afraid of the terminal, either.
Yes I also faced several failures before I managed to get my phone rooted. I used chainfire's autoroot for sph710 and it worked so you might want to give it a try

I may be wrong, but I think it is a communication issue. One user said he reverted from 5.1 to 5.02 - but he went on to say that he did not flash the BOOTLOADER (that was my interpretation) and he didn;t full flash the entire 5.1.1 tar - so in reality he never really updated - and going back to 5.02 wasn't an issue (obvoiusly)
That is my take on what I read here - but I may be mistaken - I am hoping I am wrong cause I sure woud like to get this whole thing behind us.....

I got mine to boot the 5.1.1 rom/kernel on the old bootloader. But without flashing the bootloader, it had issues with the fingerprint reader and the ambient light sensor. It may have had other issues that I didn't discover in the brief time I had my phone this way.
So was anyone able to downgrade?
I was lured to upgrade to 5.1.1 with false root promises by this article here -- http://www.teamandroid.com/2015/06/...511-galaxy-s6-edge-g925t-lollipop-firmware/2/, which claimed it had a root package for SM-G925T for 5.1.1 -- but instead the link in it was redirecting to a root package for SM-G925F, which on t-mobile version is just causing a boot loop.
So I've been trying to downgrade to 5.0.2 but when I try to flash it with ODIN, my phone just displays an error message "sw rev. check fail. device: 2, binary: 1"
Anyone who was able to downgrade could you please post exact steps and links to the firmware you used?
