I can confirm it does work. Just installed it, hit make it rain and phone rebooted and came right back up. I just got the phone the other day and had not yet rooted, this was super easy.

Also I just installed TB and it works perfectly. I did have to install busybox. I did not install SuperSU because I really don't need it asking to allow root or not.

I flashed stock kitkat last night and towelroot worked perfectly.

Towelroot worked perfectly for me too on E980. Used Chainfire 1.99 for the SuperUser (get it directly from Chainfire, as the Play Store only has version 1.94 which is too old and won't work) and Titanium Backup works fine as well
link to Chainfire 1.99r5

I can confirm root on lge980!

Sure, does it not work correctly on your device?
Works perfect. Even works with the Value Pack update and cm10.1 and 10.2. I haven't tested for original stock though.
Excellent work my friend!!! Thank you!!!!
Works great, thank you.

Touch is way off on stock ROM, very sluggish and freezes, had to use freegee to go back to 2.6.0
It did work fine on 10.2 but was a little slow.
Thanks

Think i found the problem for the lazy behaviour. I'm going to make a rebuild on tomorrow.
Is this working for E988 version 10a build jzo54k ? I have problems installing cwm/ twrp with project freegee. It will go into a secure booting error boot certification verify message after i restart my phone. I can only install kdz to get back to stock. I can access the cwm recovery though, but i don't dare to flash anything.
Probably yes - the loki patcher lists "official" support for AT&T E980 / HK LG E988 and works also with the international E986 version.
But it has not been tested with the E988 on this recovery yet.
I also updated both install packages on the first post, please check if you could see an improvement regarding the touch/lag issue.

How are you guys getting this to work with CM10.1?
Everytime I go into recovery, the phone becomes unresponsive/freezes, even on this newest update.
I'm also looking for an alternative way to install CWM 6.0.3.7, since FreeGee won't work.
...TWRP
Nope, didn't work for me. I am rooted. went into recovery, which was a piece of cake....(thx!!)....but then, the buttons would not work correctly. such as....pressed 'BACKUP', and it went into the 'REBOOT' menu. I then went back to the free gee method.
btw - E980 here

is there anyway to install CWM within TWRP. I can not install Stock rom as restore within TWRP.
Worked fine for me. Touch is right on the money

A flashable zip doesn't exist?
Works for me!

Right now you have to switch from CWM to TWRP or vice versa. If you are on stock...Freegee is what you want.
After stock, you need a flashable CWM or one of the TWRP zips.
There was CWM that I saw but can't find the link. Then you can switch between them, if needed.
A dual recovery would be nice but I didn't see one for the OGP.

ADB AND debug
Heads up everyone, I was having no luck with this until I realized that I had to not only hit the check mark by 'enable USB debug..' but also tap on the option so I could choose to enable debug AND adb. Hope that helps someone.

Root manager other than SuperSu in 4.3?

Hello, I cannot get either "Superuser" to work in mk4 4.3.
Every time I try, I end up having to dirty flash my ROM to get a working root again.
Any help is great!
Thanks

Because I've had so much interest, and so few takers, I'll add that this may be specific to Synergy ROM mk4. When I get a chance to flash lorjays again I may update my experience.

May I ask why do you prefer Superuser over SuperSU? Don't they kinda do the same thing with SuperSU being updated constantly?
Use Kingoroot. In the end it'll put SuperSU on your phone, but you should be able to then install Superuser and remove SuperSU.

Well, in the past, for whatever reason I had problems running an app or two using a certain su app.
I thought this may have been the problem with my current mk4 ROM, turns out it may relate to the boot.img that is currently being used.

[Q] new root method?

framaroot using the gandalf exploit worked great for me, it's in the app store. There have been reports of issues if you stay on stock, none if you plan on flashing a rom. I however have had no issues running stock with it either.
EDIT: What he said, lol.

Again, lol, what he said. I was simply saying that IF you stay with stock you may have issues rooting that way - but I haven't. I stayed with stock because it has given me the most stable performance/battery life but with this phone people tend to have very different experiences. Not something to be concerned by, simply means you will have to test for yourself and see what works best for you/your needs. I still flash roms(Just flashed newest Vanir with Linaro Matr1x kernel - and boy is it fast!), but always have a stock nandroid backup to fall back to. The rooting guide will explain all of this but framaroot will give you root accesss, and an app called freegee will unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery(clockworkmod or twrp). At that point, I advise everyone to make a full backup in recovery(and to copy that backup to a pc for safe keeping) - then you are free to download and flash roms, kernels, mods, etc - to your hearts content. Anything goes wrong or doesnt work properly, you can just go back into recovery and restore your backup.
Framaroot was the bees knees for me. Used it at least 9 months ago and I've never had an issue.

I'm the guy that originally tried framaroot on our phone and I didn't have any issues running stock. Framaroot from the root guide, freegee from the play store, choose recovery, boom

So I haven't been on xda for a while. I've rooted my note a good 12x. I got a replacement and decided to keep it stock as long as possible. Now my phone just pisses me off with touchwiz. I wanna flash a twrp or cwm so i can flash cm11 and so on. I know Samsung just puahed this new update out so idk if anyone has rooted it yet. Does any one know how to root and instal cwm on 4.4.2? Really want to flash a rom. Thank you very much for time and feedback

I used cf auto root heres the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980644
Can you please confirm that cf worked on 4.4.2? Their site only shows compatibility up to 4.3. I've been searching everywhere, but found no confirmed reports of cf or anything else working on 4.4.2. I want to root my i317 while retaining the stock rom so that I can enable tethering.

CF method worked on my i317 with Stock 4.4.2. I seen that the compatibility was up to 4.3 but I tried it anyways.

What recovery are you using, and how did you install it, TWRP bricked mine.
C auto root is flashed with odin in download mode. While rooting, it installs a custom recovery.
maybe it's kitkat, but it didn't install one for me. When I went into recovery, it was the normal factory recovery, which allowed nothing. I tried with Rom Manager, but nothing.
CF worked
I had to manually install the latest Supersu apk then update the binaries to get it working afterword, but I'm finally rooted
Now to get tether working

Download a recovery like philz and flash it in odin while the phone is in download mode
Let me ask you this:
1. root with odin.
2. install CWM with odin?
3. Not I have 4.4.2 stock rom with root.
4. Can I install a custom rom with 4.4.2. stock rom still on the phone?

Yes, if 1 - 3 is accomplished, you are ready for experiments in custom roms. You use the recovery to flash.
But make sure you have the latest recovery, and that you check the rom instructions a few times before you do anything.
Ok....cwm from Rom manager, or twrp through odin? I don't mean to break chops, I've rooted a captivate and played with it for a year, when my wtty was over with this phone, I rooted it, and had JediX 19 on it. I went back to stock, and then 4.4.2 When samsung stock 4.4.2 was installed, for some reason, it keeps bricking on me.
Ok, I rooted, and installed twrp from odin,.... passed. When I go into recovery, it's not there.
Ok. Hopefully someone has an answer. I rooted with CF auto root, Odin....fine. Installed CWM, fine. Downloaded SuperSU.....unfortunately superuser stopped working everytime I press on it. I cannot uninstall it, because it DOES NOT show up in application manager. I installed root checker, and says phone is not rooted. I can get into clockwork MOD, but no zip files show up. Can I use Odin to re flash CF auto root?, or just quit, I would hate to brick this again.
Sounds like Knox is blocking you. After rooting, install the latest Supersu apk (2.02) and install manually. Then when you open it, it should ask to update binaries. Let it, then it should ask about dialing Knox. Click yes. Viola, you're fully rooted. After the above is done, you can play with ROMs n such.
Up till that point, there is no need to flash anything, as auto root is designed to do the work for you from a pure stock rom.

Thank you sir! I went into ES file explorer, and manually installed SuperSU. Although it never asked about dialing KNOX. I installed Root Checker, and it says I'm rooted. Appreciate yours and everyone else's help. Have a great day.

Root for 5.1.1

There is a root that works for us now over in the unified development. Thank the guys over there. Easy just flash a tar via odin. Let it boot up. Reboot and BAM. Root.

Thanks to @mikeyinid and @g.lewarne for putting over 17 hours of work today and @bigbiff for a working 5.1.1 TWRP.
TWRP is for the G920xx but we do have root and thanks to bigbiff we probably will have a working recovery a little bit faster now.
Cool, hey isn't that tmobile's root checking app asking for permission?

the phone is not actually running at those temperatures is just the unikernel doesn't read the correct temperature in our device but the phone is actually running regular temperatues the dev says is probably due to the unified device tree our sensors don't read correctly he was going to look into it
