Hi, I'm new to HTC and wanted to know how I can downgrade my firmware. I'm S-off and everything, I flashed firmware 2.70 to use the new maximus rom, but I found using 1.40 with elementalx to yield better battery results for me, so I want to return to 1.40. Is it as simple as just flashing the 1.40 firmware on top of the 2.70 firmware, or is there something else I must do for downgrading? Thank you very much!

Just flash the 1.40 firmware over the 2.7

Hello a noob question for you guys.
I see some custom ROMS (if not every one) says that you have to have a certain radio version or newer.
then again I see stock ROMS often has a radio version in the file name.
Does that mean that the stock ROMS include the proper radio ? and that i dont need to find a radio seperately ?
thanks
Yes, stock roms such as this RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11_release_122704.exe include an associated radio also.
If you flash a custom rom from the stock rom, you will always have the default stock radio version (e.g. 32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11) installed unless you flash a newer radio rom yourself.
You will find that the selection of custom roms will be without radio versions, and the OP will normally provide links to the recommended radio versions that will work with that associated rom, for performance and functionality purposes.
thank you for helpfull info
another one for you
if i want to downgrade to stock sometime, wil the "old" version of the radio overwrite the newer one i might have installed with a custom ROM ?

If you flash back to a stock rom with the radio version included, then you will also have stock rom and radio installed. The rom image and radio image will be replaced to stock firmware.
You could even flash the stock radio rom individually, list of stock radio's here:

No problem bud
Quick question leading on from this...if you flash a new radio, does it delete all your apps and settings like when you flash a new rom, or do they survive?
Cheers.

No, the radio is written to a seperate part of the device, and does not interfere with the OS portion.
Hey there! I'm currently running ARHD V3.1 and I flashed the recommended radio for that version. It was the first time I have ever flashed a radio.
I am now wanting to upgrade to ARHD V3.2 and flash the new recommended radio for this version also.
To flash the new recommended radio do I simply do everything exactly as I did before and just flash the new radio over the old one?
Thanks in advance!

If you want the easy and safest way to root, use v.1.34 instead of 1.72. Dont receive OTA if you want to root your device.
ahh ok great as my device seems to be stuck on 1.34 lol

If you see my sig below, I have tested the newer stock ROM (1.84).
I didn't feel or see any different from 1.34
That was the reason why I decided to downgrade and root it
The Virtuous custom ROM is version 1.85 and pre-rooted. Its mostly stock with a few extra features added and some optimizations. You should check it out, if you want a more up date, but close to stock ROM.

So here is a question that I cannot find the answer to. If a ROM like Android Revolution HD is based off the 1.29.401.12 Firmware and I have a 1.29.707.11 based phone, can I install the ROM? I know I would have to unlock and install a custom recovery, but is it possible? I ask because I thought I read somewhere you cant mix firmware updates (ie x.xx.401.xx and x.xx.707.xx) without S-Off or it would cause problems.
Thanks in advance!!

There should be no problem to install latest ARHD ROM. I did it many times coming from stock with different numbers. Any way most of your stock files are reflashed by ROM files. ARHD is universal ROM for any HOX Internatioanal versions.
Since you are replacing the whole firmware, the version of the one you are replacing should not matter.
However, make sure that the new ROM has support for your specific hardware!

Thanks, I shall try the ROM this weekend or next!!
I have an Unlocked, S-OFF T-Mobile HTC One M8 which is running ARHD 7.0. ARHD is based on 1.54.401.10. Meanwhile there is a custom T-Mobile Firmware 1.57.531.7. Which firmware should I be using for best results. Should I flash 1.54.401.10 and then flash the latest TMO Radio
Try it and see.

Really? Thanks for the educated answer... :good:
That's kinda the right answer...if it doesn't work, flash the 1.54.401.10 FW again. Can't hurt, but my 2p is stick to the FW package the ROM is based on as it's written to work together
Don't know if this helps but I'm using the InsertCoin v3 ROM which is a 1.54 FW version with the 1.57 FW and it works perfectly. Maybe the updates for 1.57 are minor and not enough to have any ill effects.
It will probably work either way.
What's best will depend on whether you want to optimise battery life, signal, call quality or something else.
That might depend on your location, the phase of the moon or whatever.
There are too many variables and way too many unknowns for anybody to give you a definitive answer.
Try it and see.
