If you want the easy and safest way to root, use v.1.34 instead of 1.72. Dont receive OTA if you want to root your device.

ahh ok great as my device seems to be stuck on 1.34 lol

If you see my sig below, I have tested the newer stock ROM (1.84).
I didn't feel or see any different from 1.34
That was the reason why I decided to downgrade and root it

The Virtuous custom ROM is version 1.85 and pre-rooted. Its mostly stock with a few extra features added and some optimizations. You should check it out, if you want a more up date, but close to stock ROM.

Can be my Desire HD be directly rooted without downgrade of firmware ?

true, but this rom (1.32) its temporary Until flash a more new rom......
for that visionary r14 can do his work and give to you root acces... its needed the 1.32 version (old)
later you can flash a new rom based on froyo 2.2.1 (1.75, 1.82...) or a gingerbread rom....
If your firmware isn't 1.32, then you HAVE to downgrade, there's no other option...to get a full root.
Ok, I see a lot understandable how-tos. But my question is - can by my HTC fully restored to original state ? (maybe for a warranty) ?
And if i downgrade a phone and after applying root a custom ROM, it will also update a firmware version ?
I am new in android coming from iPhone 3gs so sorry if my questions is stupid

Stuppid its the person that do everything without asking and read first...
The process its fully reversible and later you can return totally at the factory features...when you desire.... Including your lastest unrooted firmware or custom rom of the all android versions...

yea.. i think all dev. roms are great... someone in development process, someone final release... but you can try several custom roms and judge it by yourself....You can choose better the one that adapts for what you look...its an advantage of open source code
in the all custom roms threads you have a "buglist" for to see them....

No you can't, you need S-OFF... wrong section also...
That is my question, as far as I've read thanks google S Off doesn't work (yet?) for the HTC One X

You can unlock and install other ROMs on branded devices.
We're just having trouble with the Sense JB ROMs because they require an updated hboot, that cannot be installed onto the wrong CID which cannot be changed without S-Off.
Thanks
My last Android was a Defy, seems to work a bit different to HTC

If you want a stock, unbranded HTC Sense ROM on your phone, your only current option it to flash Mike1986's STOCK ROM. It's based on the UK WWE Unbranded CID but can be flashed on any device with an unlocked bootloaded (via HTC Dev). The downside is that you will ahve to flash back to stock Vodafone ROM to get the Jellybean OTA when it's released, before you can flash Mike's JB roms.
I strongly suggest trying CyanogenMod 10 though. It's leagues above the HTC Sense based ROMs. I certainly wont be going back.
so let me see if i understand,
if i had Vodafone rom and I switch to stock (and unfortunately my CID still VODAP102), I won't get any JB update?

if you're on stock you'll get the JB update as soon as Vodafone releases it... you just need to wait

Yes. You won't be able to update via official OTA with that custom ROM. Unless you flash the custom ROM for JB when it gets released.
To get official OTA you need Vodafone's official ROM back.

Correct, unless you stay on your stock Vodafone ROM, you wont get the JB OTA.
If you use a custom Stock ROM, you wont receive any OTAs, and you'll end up having to return to the Vodaphone stock ROM anyway to upgrade you HBOOT when they release the JB update so you can run a sense enabled JB ROM.
Personally, I'd just go ahead and flash an AOSP or AOKP ROM. I'm on Official CyanogenMod 10 and love it

O2_102 & ahrd 17.1?

Can I simply flash AHRD 17.1 on my HTC One X(o2_102)?
I tried to find more information on the other threads but I found no real answer...
Im on HBOOT 0.96, is there any way to update?
No, you have to wait for o2 to update you to JB, then you can go custom

Why is that so? Just askin'
Sent from my HTC One X
At the moment JB is only out on unbranded handsets. To run JB you have to have the update firmware but this is only available on unbranded handsets that have had the JB update. Until you get the update from your carrier you won't be able to run a JB ROM based on Sense

[Q] Assitance very much appreciated.

Hi.
As much as I really like the xda forums, I am having real trouble searching for my answer. Maybe I am thinking illogically!
I am in U.K. on Vodafone.
My CID is VODAP001
Android version 4.0.4
HTC Sense version 4.1
I have installed Android Revolution HD 9.4.1
If relevant, my HTC SDK API level is 4.23
In a nutshell, I am hoping to install JB update - either the official Vodafone one, or possibly Revolution (if I can figure out if that is fully functional for my device).
I hoped that Vodafone would have released the OTA update before now. But I don't know if my install of Revo is stopping my device from automatically looking for updates.
I thought I would be able to go to settings/about/software and search for updates, but that option doesn't seem to be available (is Revolution switching this feature off?)
So:
Is it worth me trying to roll back to stock, and manually check for updates periodically?
(If so, please could someone point me to a recent no brainer post on how to do this?)
Or:
Does the latest JB release of Revolution work with my model/network?
(If so, do I need to roll back to stock and start from scratch, or can I "update" my current version.
Whilst I am not totally noob to all this, I do find it slightly daunting, and I can't always tell which threads are the most relevant or up to date, so please excuse me if my questions are obvious to you. I just find that after a while on XDA I have loads of tabs and it all gets a bit backwardy and forwardy!
Many thanks in advance.

Hi,
Your CID has not yet received the official HTC jellybean update. This means that you will NOT be able to get an update from vodafone and also you wont be able to flash Android revollution HD 17.0 (Jellybean).
You will have to wait for HTC to roll out the official JB update for your device.
And none of the custom ROMS (including ARHD 17.0) support OTA update feature. You can update your device OTA ONLY and ONLY if you are on stock ROM, stock recovery and stock kernel.

There are custom ROMs that support OTA, but ARHD is not one.

Where can I find carrier firmware, specifically HTC__023 (virgin australia)?

Since I've rooted I obviously don't get new hboots, but the newest Viper is 3.20 base while I think I'm only on 3.18. Are there any downloadable hboots for HTC__023?

To flash a ROM with a 3.20 base, you don't need to have the 3.20 firware...
I have the same CID as well HTC__023...
I have tried ARHD 21 and it works perfectly... however not much of a sense fan since I started using AOKP
What is the newest 023 firmware anyway though?

I'm on 3.17.728.1...
I using a custom rom so OTA is out of question. I had updated everything (2 months ago) and at that time 3.17 was the latest... No idea whether OTAs have been pushed out afterwards.
