Hi
I have a galaxy s 8.4 with lollipop stock rom (Saudi Arabia edition, for no reason other than it has the highest changelist value among XXU1 Roms)
I don't remember trying this before when I still had kitkat but now I noticed that the "okay Google" detection in the Google app doesn't work.
I've tried activating and deactivating s voice but it makes no difference.
Anyone else try this?
It seems to be a conflict caused by an app with an accessibility service
the app is called button Savior non root. It puts soft keys on the screen.
Too bad,it's a nice app
Fwiw
The app has been updated, and the conflict is resolved. It's a nice soft button replacement, and I especially appreciate it when using the tab in the dark, when the buttons are hard to see.

I'm not sure if I am the only one but searching hasn't really helped me find any answers. Basically, since updating (rather, doing a clean install of 4.2 tajku) to 4.2 Jellybean, I often have an issue where despite the fact that the proximity sensor blacks out the screen, the dial pad when pulled up still detects key hits. Hence, my cheek is randomly pressing buttons. Happens during voicemail since the dial pad is needed to get through menus and/or during calls which have a menu system.
Any else have this problem or have any ideas how I can resolve it?
Same here
Glad I'm not going crazy. Seems to also be happening without the dial pad, per say. I say that because it appears during a call, I was pressing something so I removed from proximity to be greeted by the lock screen (number pad). So I wonder if it has something to do with that. I am going to disable pin lock for awhile to see if that alleviates the problem.
Do you have something similar with SKype?
Do you have Skype installed?
I've something similar to this. When I am making a Skype call the screen does not go off during the call. It stays on and the only way I can make the call is to manually lock the screen before putting the phone over my ear.
You are the 5th person I meet complaining of this issue.

No Skype. And the screen goes off due to the proximity sensor - but the buttons and/or dial pad are still active. I'll try changing my power button back from "end call" to just screen off and see if that helps.
Anyway, a quick update. Seems like a couple of factory resets did the job. So something with Titanium Backup did not translate over well to 4.2 (from 4.1.2). On top of that, I can no longer seem to do a full restore, causes my device to go into boot loop. Don't know why it worked the first time. At any rate, just re-downloaded all my apps and so far so good. Just have to try and restore individual app data one by one and see if I can get it to stick without fudging up the dial pad again.
EDIT: Scratch that, it's going it again. What the hell... 4.2 is such a @#@#@ in the ass.
Still having same issue. Glad you came back with an update, bc I was about to re-flash and re-download all of my apps. I know you say that you experience it even without the keypad pulled up, but I have not. Usually happens when I call an automated system, and my call gets sent to every extension possible!

Alright, I think I have it working. I did factory reset... made sure any phantom directories (i.e. storage(sdcard)/0/0/0/0 etc) were deleted.
1) By default, I tested by calling voice mail then rolling my cheek against the screen. So far so good.
2) I downloaded StickMount, Titanium Backup Pro, NTFS mounter (for ntfs driver) and ES File Explorer. Tested again as per above. OK.
3) Used Titanium Backup to restore missing apps + data. Did a test, still good.
4) Used Titanium Backup to restore only select system data (i.e. call logs, SMS log, alarm, etc). Still tests fine.
5) Enabled PGM free. Did test and BOOM, problem.
So it seems like with 4.2 there is something screwy with PGM which is essentially keeping the screen "awake" even though it's off due to sensor. Don't know why I didn't think of it earlier.
EDIT: Checked the PGM thread and it appears the author has already fixed it though only the paid version is updated atm. Says will update the free version soon if the paid version doesn't have any new bugs.
Awesome, nice work! Will see of it works for me too and report back.

Edit Uninstalled PGM, reboot and its solved! Thanks for your hard work!
I was going crazy with this issue too .. it's good that it's not only me .. i will disable PGM and try
My brother's nexus has this issue without pgm installed on full stock 4.2.1 rom.
I have watched the serial code and production date is c9,or rather september 2012.
What I have to do to fix this very annoying issue?
edit: no one has this issue? It's a common problem of latest batch sold in Italy.
OK Google functionality on the Note 4 is completely borked. This is because system wide OK Google works though S Voice. If you disable S Voice, you disable functionality of OK Google. When it is activated, it's really hit or miss. Extremely hit and miss in fact. So much so that it renders Ok Google pretty useless. This is really frustrating for those of us who rely on it in their day to day lives.
If I'm on my home screen in Nova Launcher with Ok Google detection activated it works 99% of the time, and INSTANTLY. On my S3 with a stock android rom it also worked instantly and 99% of the time. S Voice cripples Google Now voice detection and it's completely unacceptable.
Not only that, sometimes it will just completely stop detecting alltogether. If this is the price a Note 4 user has to pay to have "always listening even with screen off" functionality, I'd rather not.
Anyone have any suggestions? I tried Open Mic Plus but it's kinda iffy. Is there a way to install a different version of Google Search?

Have you seen this thread? http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-4/452230-note-4-ok-google-not-working.html
Seems people are having various results with different S-voice settings, uninstalling android wear, or random rogue apps.
I have S Voice disabled. OK Google works just fine. I'm also running Nova Launcher (doubt this is relevant to this functionality). AT&T Note 4. No issues.
I ordered my Note 4 today and should be here Wednesday. I can let you know if I have any issues.

OK google works 9 times out of 10 for me. Seems basically perfect. Did you train it?
I have the opposite problem

OK google worked the first time i tried it. Ten minutes later nothing. Retrained, worked once, then nothing. OK google six. 9 out of 10 doesn't work. However Hi Galaxy which to me does the same thing and more works 9 out of 10 times:cyclops:
I also completely turned off the Hi Galaxy functionality. Maybe that makes a difference. I don't see why it would though

I too have turned off S Voice. Maybe I should experiment with it.
Interestingly, if I do the Ok Google with the screen off, it beeps and loads, does not turn on the screen, and does not perform the task I speak to it.

I have that problem when I have my S view case closed. No real surprise to me that google hasn't written in support for the s view. Minor inconvenience to me, I'm already used to it
Got my phone earlier today. Installed all my apps, disabled most of the bloat, left Svoice enabled, and no issues getting "OK google" to work with screen off. Using nova launcher

Hi Everyone. I hope you could help me with my situation.
I had the watch about a month now. It was working nicely till a couple of days ago, the ok google stopped working.
When I tap the screen twice, there is a red G speak now. I cant tap on that icon. When replying a sms, the watch doesn't go into the voice recognising mode. I also tried sync with another phone.
I tried resetting to factory default. Reinstalling android wear and moto connect. Still doesn't work. I even tried the settings in Google settings, re recognising the ok google..
Running out of options.. Please help
When the red G Speak now appears do the following:
Speak.
This is the new design since Wear 2.0 Update
I spoke ...
but nothing happens...

Strange, could your microphone have something in the little hole?
i doubt that something is stuck in the little hole at the 9 o'clock position.
cos if i tap on Speak Now - it should have some bars which emulates a sound equaliser... but in my case, there isnt.
So i suspect is a setting. ... sigh..~ btw i am using Samsung Note 4
Ok, excuse me for my upper post.
But without the further infos you have now given, i could not resist to write this.
Test the microphone with an other app.
SleepAsAndroid, LED Music Controller or any soundrecorder which uses the moto360 microphone.
Have you rooted your Samsung and are you restricting apps with xprivacy or a similar program?
If the sound test fails I think your microphone is broken...
Try this. My problem was that "OK Google" only working from Voice Settings Screen using Moto 360 with my Samsung Galaxy S4 running Lollipop. I could not get the "OK Google" feature to work anywhere EXCEPT when I had the SETTINGS/MY DEVICE/LANGUAGE AND INPUT/GOOGLE VOICE TYPING screen open on my phone. Turns out that you have to have the GOOGLE NOW LAUNCHER as the home screen software. It will not work with the TOUCHWIZ HOME as the home screen software. To change this, go to SETTINGS/MORE/DEFAULT APPLICATIONS/HOME and select GOOGLE NOW LAUNCHER.
Static sound coming out
I am having the same issue. Also I am using a custom rom for note 4. I have tried the solution above and it doesnt work. I installed the "wear audio recorder" app and I only hear static sound... Is there an app or something to see if the communication between components working?
I have been using the Moto Z2 Play for almost a year now, and the feature i used every day is waking the phone when the screen is off by using the OK/Hey Google command.
The tooltip in the Google voice match settings used to read: Access your assistant any time you say "OK Google", even if your screen is off or you're using your favorite apps.
However after updating the Google app to version 8.28 the tooltip changed to "whenever your screen is ON" instead of "even if your screen is off".
And sure enough, the phone will no longer respond to commands until i pick up the phone and manually turn on the screen, which defeats the purpose.
Why was this feature removed? I have tried everything and finally had to uninstall Google updates and install an older version(8.24) from apk mirror to get Assistant to work properly again.
What is even more puzzling to me is that this problem seems specific to my Z2 Play, i have the latest Google app version(8.28) on my Xiaomi phone, and the tooltip still says "even if your screen is off" and it works as it should.
I tried Googling this issue, i checked the Motorolla support forums, the Google assistant support forums etc. and couldn't find any mention of this issue.
This has also happened to me! I thought I just needed to reboot the phone to maybe fix a background service that had stopped, but I also see that "...even when your screen is off" has been removed from the Voice settings. This is one of the features that made the Moto Z line attractive to me, and I literally use (well, used) the feature several times a day, especially while driving. I also use Android Auto and now I have to either touch the microphone on my truck's head unit screen, press and hold the voice button on the steering wheel for 3 seconds, or unlock my phone so I can talk to it. I have a self-built Android Auto in my other car and it also has this issue, which I now know is not related to either car's system. Thank you for posting and bringing this to our attention.
I think this must be a bug in the latest Google app. Does anyone know where we can submit bug reports for the app, or voice control/Google Assistant in general?
Has any else experienced this problem, or does anyone have ideas about what to do to potentially resolve it? Surely OP and I can't be the only two people who have witnessed this issue.

It is likely that there just aren't many Z2 play users who frequent xda, and the ones that do never noticed the issue because they don't use the feature.
I've had my 7T for about a week now. Its such a dang good phone. I love it. But I've one issue I'm looking for help with.
Apps that I expect to do things in the background don't work.
Example 1: Spottily is set to auto play when the bluetooth connects. On my Samsung as long as the app was in the background I didn't even have to unlock the phone. On the 7T I have to wake up the phone and bring the app into the foreground before it will start playing.
Example 2: I have an app that will let me download from instagram, it sits in the background and intercepts clip board links. Works great on my samsung but on this phone I have to switch to the app before it will do its thing.
Its as if its heavily throttling apps in the background and I've found now way to change that. Any advice?
edit: I have tried the following with no effect.
1. Tried locking the app in multitasking
2. Turning off battery optimization for the apps in questions

I have no such issues. Whatever app I want to keep running in the background is always running. I've had such an issue with my previous huawei phone, and the button mapper app. I don't experience any of those. I have a 7T HD1903 on OOS 10.0.8.
