[Q] Losing my mind without a permanent root! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

I've been waiting for 7 months for a permanent root for the Note 4 on AT&T and there's yet to be one found. I'm absolutely going to lose it soon. Are there any decent devices on AT&T that can be rooted? Or do all of them have this same problem?

These things take time (more time with the Note 4). I'm bored with the phone as well but know that devs are working hard to come up with a solution to root. In the meantime I'm also looking for another phone to change to since I strongly believe this will be my last Samsung phone.

It sure has been a suffering. But I've just learned to accept 2 things. I have a AT&T galaxy note 4, not a samsung galaxy note 4 lol. And the fact that I'll never buy a AT&T phone again. Only way to never deal with this next time around bro.

[Q] Should I root the Galaxy Note 2 now?

Hello all,
I was wondering if the thread --> [2012.11.08][SGH-I317/M] CF-Auto-Root v1.0 in the original android development is the only way to root the galaxy note 2 (at&t). Is it just "in the works"? is my main concern.
I know the possibility of methods being released later down the months when there is more support and development for the device.
The phone just came out so I'm not expecting a whole lot, but I was just concerned that maybe I should wait on rooting until a more stable method is released. I'm just worried that if I root I may not be able to go back to another method. Should I just root it now? Is there any benefit to rooting now vs later down the road?
Couldn't be any easier to do... Took like 1 minute from beginning to end. There is nothing unstable about it.

It's truly a matter of personal opinion whether or not to root. Some of us flashaholics can't wait and some of us are trying to hold out until at least the first official OTA unless something comes out that we just can't resist lol
There are a few apps I'm missing right now by not rooting but then again the phone does damn near everything I need/want without customization/rom flashes. I would like to experience the multi view feature but I suppose in due time it will be here.

Yeah when is that multi-view feature coming? I thought it was supposed to be built into the software already...but yeah I agree with you. It depends on personal choice. I was wondering if the current root method was stable...

Rooting is a personal thing. I'm a flashaholic to the core but I'm waiting for at&t to give us the OTA we need for split screen. I'm waiting for the right ROM to be cooked up before I even root my baby. But hey, that's just my personal preference right now.

Rooting is worth it just to do nandroids, triangle away w/ a custom kernel (reset counter) & Titanium Backup (apps).

[Q] Do we expect Towel Root to work?

Does anyone know if Towel Root will work on this right away ? My S4 is dieing and need something new and dont want to wait for note 4 if going to be long wait for root. (not being pushy at all just need to make decision and did the wait with s4 and it stunted development etc people moved on. Dont want to be in same boat)
Thank you for your helpful responses
It wont. Towelroot has not been updated since v3, and in any case the kernel date for the Note 4 would most certainly be post June 4.
It took about 6 months for root to be out for the Note 3, and unless something miraculous like Towelroot happens, the VZW/ATT Note 4 are likely to be left stranded till something happens

I don't agree root for the Note 3 was available 2nd week it came out. Just today Chainfire announced that he has root for some international model of the Note 4 via CFRoot, it's a matter of time for him to get a hold of the recovery code and some files to make it work for US bound Note 4.
Stay tune.

Read the topic again..the OP is asking specifically if Towelroot will work. It wont, is all I said. Sure, cf-auto-root files are likely to be available for most variants, carrier-locked or otherwise. But if you happen to be on AT&T or Verizon, chances are, that you will have to wait.

Root came out quick at least for verizon but they are always last to ship. Can't say 2 weeks but know it wasn't 6 months for sure I would guess no more then a month max. Now custom roms took longer then root I remember waiting for them awhile on Verizon. I didn't want to trip Knox so that wait was even longer.

I would rather wait a little longer for a rooting method that does not trip Knox.

Me too, looks like they have root already for note 4 but it trips Knox. Granted don't know if same will work for US phones but even if it didn't they are already close.
Then give it time and hope for a no trip Knox root.

Does anyone know if triangle away works with that CF root?
I read they obtained root on the note 4 and the new S5 the other day. Good news! (I forget where I read it at..it was in the android portion of flipboard..)
I don't care about Knox. It doesn't seem to do anything other than affect your warranty. If root came out and tripped Knox? I'd still use it.

Towel Root was recently (31st August 2014) modified to work with the Note 2 on Android 4.4.2. They named it GhettoRoot . I use it on my SCH-I605
People are having inconsistent results. It is a pain. But it worked for me. HERE> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55438224&postcount=148

My understanding is the if Knox is tripped some enterprise software doesn't work... Does not affect me personally.... And making the same decision here... May go ahead even if trips Knox...

[Q] Root

Is there any progress or hope to get root on this phone???
Is anyone working on it???
Honestly I'm not to sure, currently I believe if there will b a root it will b for lollipop an I don't see a root coming out right when it gets released but hopefully will will have one by May or June.... like how the Note 3 was

Terrific work done here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2961974
Mods please lock this thread since it was answered.
I had the Note 3 and the Original Mega. I think all AT&T phone from here on will be had the bootloader locked since it has worked in the past and unless someone takes the challenge to break it all AT&T samsung phones will be doom.
that's why I moved to the Nexus 6.
still hopes someone take serious interest in MODERATOR EDIT - UNNECESSARY COMMENTARY REMOVED

[Q] Should I bother activating my Note 4?

I just got my Verizon Note 4 in the mail today and realized that no one has yet to find a way to root it. Right now I'm using my rooted Verizon Note 2. I'm wondering if I should even bother activating my Note 4 and start using it or should I just hold off and hope someone finds a way to root it in the near future.
What do you guys think?
It's nothing what we think, do what you feel you want. We aren't using the phone, you are, it's ultimately up to you on what you feel you want.
Can you use a phone without root? Can you live without it? Then use the note 4

I came from the note 2 as well and was also disappointed to hear that root has not been achieved yet. To cope I installed nova launcher and tried to tone down touch wiz as much as possible, which has helped tremendously in my opinion. Even without root this phone is ridiculously fast and has insane battery life compared to the note 2. I can go nearly a week with 7 hours of screen on time without charging it using the stock battery. This phone is amazing even without root access, but when it does finally get rooted it will destroy everything else on the market.

What?? A week? What do you leave it in ultra power saving mode all the time?
Shoot, in ultra-powersaving mode you could probably make it almost 2 weeks!
As was said, do what you feel is best. I can live without root, but I don't like it personally. However, it is STILL even WITHOUT root, better than my Note 3, which I still have. I love my Note 4. Admittedly though, I've got it up for sale to see if I can get any biters to try and mitigate the cost of a developer edition. Either way, I can't wait for that root.

Well I guess my main concern is whether I'm going to get hit with an OTA update without realizing it then find out I can't root anymore. As of now, if I start using the phone with stock kit kat 4.4.4 I should be okay right? I guess worse case scenario I'd just have to reinstall all my apps when the Note 4 root comes out.
So maybe my safest bet is to start using the Note 4 but make sure I keep it at kit kat 4.4.4 the whole time?

There are ways to prevent OTAs without root so youll be safe
I'll say sell it ,buy the DE and call it a year
Only geeks can't live without root LOL pretty much you can do most of the things without root besides adaway

The n4 is the best un-rooted device I have ever owned. With Nova and turned off bloat, this phone is awesome. I haven't regretted buying this phone and it will last me a long time. Good luck

Seconded, I just got my DE
Since Samsung went with a non removable battery and no SD slot with the S6. This could possibly be the last phone with an removable battery and SD slot.
Don't activate it send it back and get a nexus 6 if you want a unlocked bootloader and roms

Yeah that's true. I won't necessarily need to control my cpu speed with setcpu since the Note 4 has 2 power saving modes. There are some older versions of apps I'd like to restore with Titanium backup, and some I'd like to delete with the same program but I guess I can wait until root comes out to do that. I'm gonna miss not having the Freedom app but I'll live.
I do want to install the older version of google maps, the one that had the navigation icon, can I still do that without root?

I looked into the nexus 6. The note 4 still seems like a better phone and the Nexus 6 isn't available for Verizon yet.
Of course if I got the DE version of the Note 4 I'd be set but I really don't feel like dropping $700 on the phone. I just spend $300 to get this with my upgrade.
You know the answer, how important is root to you? If I had known root likely wasn't coming unlike my other notes, I might have waited. It's worth the extra for the de. The camera is amazing, everything works fine, but it's hampered by stock twiz and only you know what that's worth to you.
Root would be amazing. Yes. But this phone is still a beast even without it. Yes I'd love to gain root. Until then I gladly use mine without root.

What should I do?

So, I just got my hands on a retail Note 4. This particular one got to me with 5.0.1 OG5 already installed. This means I get no chance in downgrading to get even temporary root. Root is a big deal for me. I need xposed, adaway and just the damn freedom to do what I want with my device.
I am considering these options:
1. Keep this Note 4 and hope with my whole being that root comes about eventually for Lolipop.
2. Trade this Note 4 for something that CAN be rooted. I hear the Verizon Galaxy S6 has root? And the G4?
3. Go back to the iPhone 6. lol.
Tell me what you think!
2 is your best bet. I believe the Verizon note 4 will never be rooted, period. I might be wrong... but I don't think so.
