[Q] Love the phone but... - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Love this phone to death but the slow texting is driving me insane. Every single task is buttery fast, super fast, smooth, etc. But when I am texting (I use hangouts) I get SOOOO many words wrong because the delay of typing is just awful.
Is it hangouts? The keyboard? Any advice guys?
Anything to helping this situation will help.
In the meantime, the otterbox defender series says that the leather variant doesn't work, but it does! The case is great too! If anybody is still looking for one I recommend it.

find different apps for msg/keyboard?
google keyboard and 8sms work speedy for me on g4

I don't notice any issues here with hangouts, but I also use swype keyboard. Maybe it's the lg keyboard?

no issues w/ google keyboard

I use Kii, and I have no issues.

LG says its the keyboard causing tons of problems and issued an update today that supposedly fixes it. The keyboard background service is apparently hogging background resources and causing apps to miss touches.
It was released today but I do not see it available yet on the US carriers. Hopefully someone releases the APK and we can manually update.
In the mean time you can Disable the LG keyboard app and install another. That will probably work

Just use google keyboard. Works great.

I think I got it from Aptoide. I bought the paid version from the app store a while ago. Seems that Google shafted the devs though, and it's long gone. I still have that one on my Galaxy S4.

Having problems installing the Swype beta?

I nor any of my friends can seem to get the official installer past the "parsing package" error. Was wondering if anyone else had better luck with it.
Thanks
Edit: We have a couple of members who have extracted the apk and posted it here. (check this post)
Despite hundreds of complaints on Swype's side, they refuse to neither rectify nor even acknowledge that there's a real problem. In any case, XDA is here to help you.
As per Swype's licensing, only download said APKs if you are currently in the Swype beta program.
Enjoy
mine worked. I know of a couple friends with the same problem though.
Had that error a few times, changed over to 3G connection and worked fine.
I've tried both connections multiple times and am still getting parsing errors

Ditto. I gotta see what I could do about extracting an APK to just install it directly.

have the same problem u described when i downloaded the installer apk through the email link. so i went back to my prev phone and took the backup from titanium and installed it. take note of the following though:
1. if u restore both the swype installer and swype keyboard, the keyboard would end up being very small. changing orientations didn't seem to help like what others have suggested.
2. the trick is to restore only the installer. login to the installer and let it download the keyboard. you would then have a full working swype keyboard. however, this keyboard doesn't seem to be the latest one. it's slightly different from what I had on my Desire HD just before i changed over to the S3 (the button to toggle language inputs is on 'z' and not at the bottom row). the version numbers are different as well.
hope the above helps

When it first shows up its tiny, but while the keyboard is open flip it to landscape, then back to portrait and it will be better! Better in that it will be full width of screen, but still a bit shorter than other keyboards. But I still prefer it over others.

Auto correct in keyboard

My wife misses the auto correct of the iPhone. Does Android have something as comparable, besides the predictive text? The predictive text was just totally messing up her sentences. It doesn't seem to work as good as iPhone. So I assume I'm missing something.
The default keyboard with predictive text is pretty bad. Download SwiftKey 3 Keyboard from the Google Play Store. It will cost you, but trust me, it's worth it.

Agree with above. SwiftKey is a must.
Are you guys talking about the Samsung keyboard?
That is terrible, but the jellybean keyboard is really good in predicting your words, so I'd recommend trying to get that.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
Another recommendation for SwiftKey. You can type a whole book without ever using the space bar. they let you try it before you buy. 30 day trial I think. Good stuff.
Redundant by now, but yeah, go SwiftKey. You could literally mess up every letter of every word and you would never know lol.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I downloaded SwiftKey for the auto correction feature but still run into issues where (even) SwiftKey knows I spelled a word wrong but will not auto append it to the correct word its predicting. Is there a setting that I am not seeing somewhere as I've been through all the menu's (both native and 3rd party input settings)?
Thanks, she was immediately impressed with the new one.

No problem, that's what we are here for!!
Try Swype beta from the Swype web site. It's not available in the app market. It's predictive text is spot on most of the time and its easy to fix the mistake if it made one.

SwiftKey 4 is now out in the Play Store

And it is awesome. Just thought I would report this. This is my new favorite keyboard. Here is the Link. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS50b3VjaHR5cGUuc3dpZnRrZXkiXQ..

edit2: lol I had swiftkey 3 which is now swiftkey 4 and includes flow, I feel like a dummy for not knowing that, I had the flow beta and liked it
I wonder if there is any difference in swiftkey flow beta or swiftkey 4? I'm currently using the beta
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
^^ive only used it briefly, but it appears a bit more refined and polished than the beta
Anyone know what the differences btwn Swiftkey4.0 @$1.99 and Swiftkey4.0 free?
the free version is a trial only, should state that in the app description.......
I can see a big difference personally between the official and the beta. The beta was driving me crazy for awhile, the official makes my life way easier.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
It's definitely smoother, not that it wasn't already great though. One thing I've noticed is the predictions are quicker and more thorough in what they suggest. This has been my favorite keyboard for 2 years now.
I checked in the playstore could not find it link ?

Does anyone know if there is a way to import your stats and commonly used words from the Flow beta to SwiftKey 4?
I switched the flow on then immediately turned it off Bcuz I'm so used to swiping left to delete words. It's funny Bcuz I'd be swiping without looking, thinking I'm deleting things until I look down and find a bunch of words.. Lol

It isn't called SwiftKey 4 in the Play Store for people who are looking for it. Just search SwiftKey and you'll find it.
It's SwiftKey version 4.0

Should automatically transfer as long as you didn't delete the beta before installing the regular SwiftKey. SwiftKey stores all of your data on your SD card (external I think) so you can easily transfer your data.

I really like it and it's a nice keyboard, but I've grown so accustomed to the Android 4.2 keyboard for now. Until I get sick of it (I usually do get sick of things rather quick and need a change), I'll give this one another try.

LG Keyboard update

I don't know if this merits a thread or not, but I figured it warranted mentioning.
I just received the LG keyboard update. There isn't a changelog readily available, but I'm assuming this is the update that learns what you type on a per-app basis, and includes whatever other changes (what are they again?).
One difference I am noticing right away is that as you "swype" now, the word(s) you're passing your thumb across automatically appear, as opposed to appearing after you've finished the word. The swyping appears to be more accurate, which was one small gripe I had before. The other thing I'm noticing that makes a HUGE difference for me is that spaces aren't always inserted when you've selected an auto-correction. It's difficult to explain but makes a big difference. I'm obsessively picky about keyboards, so I'll keep dissecting the update as I use it.
Nice update. Anyone notice anything else find something worth mentioning?
Oh, right. And now words bring up emoji. ?. I could go for some right now.
Thanks for the heads up, just updated. Could be placebo but it does indeed feel a little snappier.

TONS of difference in lag. Can actually have all of the features activated and still type effectively. Word suggestions are now bilingual without having to switch the dictionary at the bottom (if you have a bilingual option selected). Works great for speaking spanglish...

Totally agree. It's far better than it was.
It sucks. Can't compare to google or swiftkey
I recently switched from Swype because of massive lag and bug problems. I must say the lg keyboard is just as good if not better in some respects to Swype which when working i think it's haha down the best keyboard on the market. Very impressed with lg's keyboard attempt on this phone.
I got the update. Then i had to replace my g3 (camera issue) i dont have the update for the keyboard. I go to apps update and the keyboard is not listed. I am almost positive that it was listed on the other g3

I see that highly doubtful. I used to beta test for SwiftKey and their dictionary is pretty tightly sealed from what I recall. Plus getting it into Google Keyboard would be another obstacles. I've been using Google Keyboard exclusively as it works better on my 5X and it's pretty much learned most of my common words. I just miss the emoji and hashtag suggestions.
