I see that highly doubtful. I used to beta test for SwiftKey and their dictionary is pretty tightly sealed from what I recall. Plus getting it into Google Keyboard would be another obstacles. I've been using Google Keyboard exclusively as it works better on my 5X and it's pretty much learned most of my common words. I just miss the emoji and hashtag suggestions.

Swype's temporary substitute

SlideIT keyboard, this might not be as good as Swype, at least to me Swype is better, but SlideIT is now $0.10, won't hurt to try it out I guess
Just a heads up for you guys.
thats what ive been using as well... does the job, but not as well as swype. might just take some getting used to though
I've been using the demo and it does not work for me at all. Have to swipe so slowly for it to recognise the right word that I can type much faster on a traditional keyboard. Shame.

Hey All, just saw this on the swype site, it says that it supports HD res screens. However I tried installing it and it gave me an error.

Thanks.. this is not bad for a temporary fix. It reminds me of some of the first versions of swype.

SlideIT works great for me. I've never tried swype but it looks like everyne is waiting for it. What is so much better about swype when compared to SlideIT?
I was hoping I'd like this as much as Swype... I like the ability to skin it, but I don't think it's as accurate as Swype.
Swype is almost better in every aspect. More accurate predictions, smarter auto-capitalization, better error tolerance....etc Except you don't have the ability to theme.
It truly is disappointing with their support though, SlideIT works immediately with ICS on the first day, while Swype still suffering resolution problem which I think is rather stupid, they should know Android's fragmentation by now, it might be a good idea to re-write the entire app for future proof's sake.
I highly doubt they will fix it like that since Swype makes money by licensing to OEM to use on their phones rather than selling it to users on app stores. Don't really have to worry about making them futureproof since they just have to make separate builds for each phone. The version we are using is the free beta after all so they don't have any obligation to update it.
Makes me wonder if they really do make more money doing licensing deals than they would selling them to users. Oh well.

I have missed using Swype, but in the meantime I've been using FlexT9 by Nuance, the people who make Dragon speech recognition software. It has a Swype-like feature which works almost as nicely as Swype, but lacks a couple of things that you get in Swype, like navigation arrows, cut and paste buttons, and the ability to swype words in password fields. The speech recognition on FlexT9 is simply phenomenal and worth the app price for that feature alone. Most speech recognition apps don't seem to like UK voices, but this one works even better than the speech recognition on my PC.
It's worth knowing that Nuance have just acquired the company that makes Swype, and indeed this is one of the reasons given by the Swype team for the delayed update for the GN. I really hope that we'll end up seeing the best features of Swype intergrated into the FlexT9 app, or vice-versa. For me, it would be a dream come true.

I know!!!! In a rush, 2 things at a time, and didn't realise the predictive text had kicked in. Wasnt even 'swyping' at the time!

Swype?

I have tried an swype apk...but it does not work.
CAN anyone help me to get swype on my phone?

I don't know about you, but I can type a lot faster the hole words with 2 fingers compared to swiping.
Thanks Guy's
I will download swype when i figure out to flash a custom recovery on this phone.
(Its soo hard) Compared to my other samsung phone
It's so confusing with all the drivers and stuff. I wish i could just use ODIN because that's 100% easier.
I've never used swype, I don't know what features it offers, apart from ummmmm, swyping(?) but I'm using this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cootek.smartinputv5&hl=en
Has the same type of thing, sliding your finger to write, and other features. I like it, find it good, but as i say I've never used swype, so can't compare. Sliding does take a bit of getting used to though...

you just have to practice. If you try and be super precise with Swype, you wind up losing a lot of time compared to just tapping everything out and letting the spell check handle it. Swype is certainly not perfect but I've been using it for about a year now and the only reason I go back to the aosp keyboard is the terminal, Swype acts weird on it...

Swiftkey 3 is much better?
I find Swype to be the best for me. Register at Swype.com and they will send you the download link. The various apks that I downloaded over the internet did not work for me.

Ok, how?
It would be personal preference if you ask me. I've tried all the ones that are offered on the Android store and still keep going back to Swype. The keyboard is great but the best feature that I find is that you can totally mess up a word and 9 times out of 10 Swype will pick the correct word or give you a choice of words with the word you were trying to type being 1st or in the first row of choices.
Installation is easy, just go to the website and follow there instructions, its a total walk through. :good:
Had Swype on my old Epic and my wife's LG Optimus S when she had it. Tried it again last night on my GNex and I can honestly say I like the stock keyboard better.
Like the previous poster stated......persoal preference.

I have used swype for a few months now, and i just cant use the normal keyboard again!!! Once when I was installing a custom ROM, i faced a problem with the installation of swype, and I just stopped msging or chatting with anyone that day!!
and I can even swype without even looking at the screen now!!
But in my opinion, u can't do the same on a normal keyboard coz u cant feel the keys!!

Swype is good at spell correct but Swiftkey does predictions better than anyone. So while you are swyping all your letters, I just type one or two and hit space
The select all, copy, paste short cut in Skype wins hands down!

i must have different Swype because mines all jacked up...had been for a while. Basically since flashed jb. Anyone have a better apk than the Swype site
*This Jedi master be a Ninj-ESS*
+1 Swipping! I've been using it since the Windows Mobile 6 ages (HTC Touch Pro) and I can't use no other keyboard since then.
All about preference. I used to use swype beta, but have been using SwiftKey 3 for months and haven't looked back. That said, swiping is great, but I rarely type more than two letters before SwiftKey predicts my word.

Newest Swype beta worked fine for me on 4.1 but I got rid of it as I'm actually more use to the stock keyboard now.

Auto correct in keyboard

My wife misses the auto correct of the iPhone. Does Android have something as comparable, besides the predictive text? The predictive text was just totally messing up her sentences. It doesn't seem to work as good as iPhone. So I assume I'm missing something.
The default keyboard with predictive text is pretty bad. Download SwiftKey 3 Keyboard from the Google Play Store. It will cost you, but trust me, it's worth it.

Agree with above. SwiftKey is a must.
Are you guys talking about the Samsung keyboard?
That is terrible, but the jellybean keyboard is really good in predicting your words, so I'd recommend trying to get that.

Another recommendation for SwiftKey. You can type a whole book without ever using the space bar. they let you try it before you buy. 30 day trial I think. Good stuff.
Redundant by now, but yeah, go SwiftKey. You could literally mess up every letter of every word and you would never know lol.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I downloaded SwiftKey for the auto correction feature but still run into issues where (even) SwiftKey knows I spelled a word wrong but will not auto append it to the correct word its predicting. Is there a setting that I am not seeing somewhere as I've been through all the menu's (both native and 3rd party input settings)?
Thanks, she was immediately impressed with the new one.

No problem, that's what we are here for!!
Try Swype beta from the Swype web site. It's not available in the app market. It's predictive text is spot on most of the time and its easy to fix the mistake if it made one.

[Q] Love the phone but...

Love this phone to death but the slow texting is driving me insane. Every single task is buttery fast, super fast, smooth, etc. But when I am texting (I use hangouts) I get SOOOO many words wrong because the delay of typing is just awful.
Is it hangouts? The keyboard? Any advice guys?
Anything to helping this situation will help.
In the meantime, the otterbox defender series says that the leather variant doesn't work, but it does! The case is great too! If anybody is still looking for one I recommend it.
find different apps for msg/keyboard?
google keyboard and 8sms work speedy for me on g4
I don't notice any issues here with hangouts, but I also use swype keyboard. Maybe it's the lg keyboard?

no issues w/ google keyboard
I use Kii, and I have no issues.
LG says its the keyboard causing tons of problems and issued an update today that supposedly fixes it. The keyboard background service is apparently hogging background resources and causing apps to miss touches.
It was released today but I do not see it available yet on the US carriers. Hopefully someone releases the APK and we can manually update.
In the mean time you can Disable the LG keyboard app and install another. That will probably work
Just use google keyboard. Works great.

I think I got it from Aptoide. I bought the paid version from the app store a while ago. Seems that Google shafted the devs though, and it's long gone. I still have that one on my Galaxy S4.

Decent alternative keyboard

I usually like to stick with stock keyboards that come with my phone but the samsung keyboard auto correct is garbage. For me at least. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a decent keyboard? Thanks
A lot of people like Swiftkey.
I have used Google Keyboard for years. It doesn't have all the useless "features" some of other keyboards do, but it's quick and it works.
I have tried others such as Swiftkey, but they always end up annoying the crap out of me, so I go back to Google Keyboard.
I have preferred how Swype works for years. None are perfect, each has quirks and pro's and con's. Swype is the best overall for my tastes to date however.
I haven't tried swiftkey or Swype in about 2-3 years. I guess ill try them out again.

I want the number row plus Chinese language support, seem hard to find. Google keyboard possible but the number row only available with "PC" type keyboard which is not so good on a phone. So still using Samsung keyboard currently
