edit2: lol I had swiftkey 3 which is now swiftkey 4 and includes flow, I feel like a dummy for not knowing that, I had the flow beta and liked it
I wonder if there is any difference in swiftkey flow beta or swiftkey 4? I'm currently using the beta
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
^^ive only used it briefly, but it appears a bit more refined and polished than the beta
Anyone know what the differences btwn Swiftkey4.0 @$1.99 and Swiftkey4.0 free?
the free version is a trial only, should state that in the app description.......
I can see a big difference personally between the official and the beta. The beta was driving me crazy for awhile, the official makes my life way easier.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
It's definitely smoother, not that it wasn't already great though. One thing I've noticed is the predictions are quicker and more thorough in what they suggest. This has been my favorite keyboard for 2 years now.

Does anyone know if there is a way to import your stats and commonly used words from the Flow beta to SwiftKey 4?
I switched the flow on then immediately turned it off Bcuz I'm so used to swiping left to delete words. It's funny Bcuz I'd be swiping without looking, thinking I'm deleting things until I look down and find a bunch of words.. Lol

It isn't called SwiftKey 4 in the Play Store for people who are looking for it. Just search SwiftKey and you'll find it.
It's SwiftKey version 4.0

Should automatically transfer as long as you didn't delete the beta before installing the regular SwiftKey. SwiftKey stores all of your data on your SD card (external I think) so you can easily transfer your data.

I really like it and it's a nice keyboard, but I've grown so accustomed to the Android 4.2 keyboard for now. Until I get sick of it (I usually do get sick of things rather quick and need a change), I'll give this one another try.

I don't know about you, but I can type a lot faster the hole words with 2 fingers compared to swiping.
Thanks Guy's
I will download swype when i figure out to flash a custom recovery on this phone.
(Its soo hard) Compared to my other samsung phone
It's so confusing with all the drivers and stuff. I wish i could just use ODIN because that's 100% easier.
I've never used swype, I don't know what features it offers, apart from ummmmm, swyping(?) but I'm using this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cootek.smartinputv5&hl=en
Has the same type of thing, sliding your finger to write, and other features. I like it, find it good, but as i say I've never used swype, so can't compare. Sliding does take a bit of getting used to though...

you just have to practice. If you try and be super precise with Swype, you wind up losing a lot of time compared to just tapping everything out and letting the spell check handle it. Swype is certainly not perfect but I've been using it for about a year now and the only reason I go back to the aosp keyboard is the terminal, Swype acts weird on it...

Ok, how?
It would be personal preference if you ask me. I've tried all the ones that are offered on the Android store and still keep going back to Swype. The keyboard is great but the best feature that I find is that you can totally mess up a word and 9 times out of 10 Swype will pick the correct word or give you a choice of words with the word you were trying to type being 1st or in the first row of choices.
Installation is easy, just go to the website and follow there instructions, its a total walk through. :good:
Had Swype on my old Epic and my wife's LG Optimus S when she had it. Tried it again last night on my GNex and I can honestly say I like the stock keyboard better.
Like the previous poster stated......persoal preference.

I have used swype for a few months now, and i just cant use the normal keyboard again!!! Once when I was installing a custom ROM, i faced a problem with the installation of swype, and I just stopped msging or chatting with anyone that day!!
and I can even swype without even looking at the screen now!!
But in my opinion, u can't do the same on a normal keyboard coz u cant feel the keys!!

Swype is good at spell correct but Swiftkey does predictions better than anyone. So while you are swyping all your letters, I just type one or two and hit space
The select all, copy, paste short cut in Skype wins hands down!

+1 Swipping! I've been using it since the Windows Mobile 6 ages (HTC Touch Pro) and I can't use no other keyboard since then.
All about preference. I used to use swype beta, but have been using SwiftKey 3 for months and haven't looked back. That said, swiping is great, but I rarely type more than two letters before SwiftKey predicts my word.

My wife misses the auto correct of the iPhone. Does Android have something as comparable, besides the predictive text? The predictive text was just totally messing up her sentences. It doesn't seem to work as good as iPhone. So I assume I'm missing something.
The default keyboard with predictive text is pretty bad. Download SwiftKey 3 Keyboard from the Google Play Store. It will cost you, but trust me, it's worth it.

Agree with above. SwiftKey is a must.
Are you guys talking about the Samsung keyboard?
That is terrible, but the jellybean keyboard is really good in predicting your words, so I'd recommend trying to get that.

Another recommendation for SwiftKey. You can type a whole book without ever using the space bar. they let you try it before you buy. 30 day trial I think. Good stuff.
Redundant by now, but yeah, go SwiftKey. You could literally mess up every letter of every word and you would never know lol.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I downloaded SwiftKey for the auto correction feature but still run into issues where (even) SwiftKey knows I spelled a word wrong but will not auto append it to the correct word its predicting. Is there a setting that I am not seeing somewhere as I've been through all the menu's (both native and 3rd party input settings)?

Try Swype beta from the Swype web site. It's not available in the app market. It's predictive text is spot on most of the time and its easy to fix the mistake if it made one.

To all the people pointing out that flow doesn't work in Google Search (or similar areas) and claim it's okay, let me remind you that with the 4.2 keyboard, swiping is available everywhere, even where predictions aren't. Just because some searches are not standard (e.g. dotson817), the vast majority of my searches are with English words.
Either the API for swiping anywhere is locked, or SwiftKey dropped the ball. Seeing as to how long this beta took to drop, I'm guessing the latter.

My S4 is on steroids!!!
Thanks, some good improvements, but with no simple way to cache maps and no way at all (that I can find) to add the Zoom Buttons, I've reverted back to the previous version. Hopefully these issues will be addressed.
Im pretty sure this is common knowledge at this point... but disable location aware and location history in google location settings and get much much better battery life.
This new update is junk
They removed my places, which gives a lot of useful info. Some stuff is still in app, but only some, and it's spread all over.
Removed offline maps feature. If course you can still somewhat save what you see on screen, but come on guys, the real feature us gone. Once you save you screen maps for offline use, there's no way to pick and choose to delete them later.
Plus removed a lot of other useful things.
Navigation has been changed, and not for the better. It's not separate app, but it's within maps now.
Some part are indeed better and more fluid,
BUT OVERALL, IT'S LIKE TAKING ONE STEP FORWARD, WHILE TAKING THREE STEPS BACK IN GOOGLE MAPS DEVELOPMENT !!!

You are complaining about a beta.. something that everyone knows is clearly not perfect. So by writing in all caps that this release was three steps backwards, was nothing but pointless. Im just trying to let you know that this isnt how its gonna be forever. In my eyes, this was a great step forward and a very promising lead in the right direction.

No, that's not entirely true
I was not complaining, but constitutional the facts.
I've tried nothing apps, old & new version, side by side on 2 phones.
And according to official Google post in blog about this new release, Google itself clearly states that things I've "complained" about, are gone from app.
And as soon as version 7 came out, majority of reviews on play store, reflect the same very negative opinion.
