5.1.1 Battery Improvement? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

For those who have done the update, is battery any better?

For what it's worth, my "estimated time remaining" has vastly improved. Can't say about real-time though

It's been like five hours.. not really enough time to tell.

Mine seems quite a bit better.

My s6 edge still has memory leak and brightness issues after 5.1.1

Excellent! with heavy use of ~ 200 emails a day 1h on internet and about 30min looking up news and 1-2h of calls i get 12-16h.
I tried the best I knew how and I couldnt kill the battery for 2 days. I ran everything at once (not truly everything) and it just wouldn't die.

Battery is ridiculous. After diagnosing my wifi wakelock issue and installing jedi rom I get 4 hoursish per 1% when it goes into sleep, and that's in a basement mostly with horrible reception.
im getting worse battery life ever since the multiwindow update. not sure if anyone else has the same issue, but it seems like tmobile users are complaining about the same thing. it might be due to lack of battery calibration.
Well, here's a visual. Just achieved this impressive feat. 81 HOURS on pure battery! Almost 3.5 hours of screen-on time. I choose to not utilize my phone much over the holiday weekend, so that explains the low screen-on time. Regardless, I think these results are more than impressive. Nothing was restricted on my device. Live wallpaper going the whole time, auto screen brightness (usually a high setting), WiFi going, auto-syncing from emails to Facebook to Twitter, watched a bit of "The Dark Knight Rises" in full-1080p HD, made a bunch of miscellaneous phone calls. I am more than amazed at this phone and its battery. Haven't seen anything close to this in more than five years or so. These results are after updating to 4.1.2 with multi-window, and these are the best results I've ever gotten on this device.
On a side note, if anyone is getting results like the first poster with 8+ hours of screen-on time, it would really help if you described what you typically do with your phone and what you may have done to your phone. Just posting a screenshot tells nothing. You could be web browsing all day with your screen set to 20% brightness, and nothing more. What are you doing? Watching movies? Listening to music? Emailing? Texting? And if you're rooted that makes a ton of difference, so the results wouldn't be exactly truthful or accurate I should say.

Sorry for the lack of detail, I should have included that. I was browsing the net on wifi, playing Words, emailing/texting, various phone calls, watching youtube videos, and spending time on the XDA app. (of course)
I'm rooted and using clean rom 3.5. Auto brightness is on and I'm about 50% on the slider.
Here is where I sit today: (not much youtube though)

^^^ Thanks. So, that does change things, since you're rooted. The reason why I'm making a big deal about it, is because your results (and anyone else rooted) aren't typical results of someone stock. So a person not knowing any better would assuming they'd get your battery results from stock.
How is that possible? I use my note for about 5hrs of screen time and it's at like 3%. I am on an international rom and I undervolted along with perseus 1.8ghz kernel. Even when I did not have perse us, I never got above 6hrs? What settings do you use? I'm on wifi all day with the brightness All the way down. Please let me know! I really want to get that 8hrs of screen on time!

Clean Rom 3.5, I also make sure and close out of anything I'm not using. I also use the ES Task Manager widget to clear my ram before I power down for any period of time.
That's about it, besides not having a ton of widgets running.
I didn't get much over six hours of screen time with my Jedi Rom, but in fairness to it, it was my first rom and I don't think I did it quite right, installing other things with it that probably weren't compatible.

Like Dr. Evo points out, one of the great things about custom roms is they get rid of all the bloatware from ATT and other carriers. Stock I was lucky to have 1gb of free ram at any time, now I'm always around 1.1-1.2gb free without much effort on my part.

Update kills battery life and adds lots of heat

Kitkat update killed battery life and makes the tablet extremely hot near the camera on the back. What gives?
Sent from my SM-P600 using XDA Premium HD app
I don't have a solution but the same problem. I'm fine with it getting warm but it's getting really hot! It's great that we have kitkat but it's not all that stable yet.
Restarting seems to help temporarily. Feels like something gets stuck and then makes the CPU run extra stuff but I don't see anything with my wakelock analyzing apps...
When it is in "battery-eating-mode" even browsing or watching a video makes it run hot!
Generally it indicates that a file or service has become stuck, or hung. For me it's common for the Samsung.index.service to get stuck indexing a file and sometimes lasts 3 days before it's resolved.
You should use some kind of monitor to see whats causing it.
Gsam battery monitor does a good job of showing rogue apps, and battery and heat.
Also a CPU monitor is included in the debug/developer which can also show the culprit.
Sent from my P-600
I quite upset about this now. I reset my device and still have the same problem. My tablet used to be excellent and had great battery life. Now Kitkat Haase it basically useless because the battery drains so fast.
Sent from my SM-P600 using XDA Premium HD app
Indexservice uses 30 percent of my battery. I read that happens if you have lots of pdfs on an external SD card, but for me that is the whole point of this device. If I just wanted to play games, watch videos and surf the Web I would've gotten an ipad. Really dissapointed with Samsung here. Did they not test the device before they released the update? Or do they clock out of their jobs and go home and use ipads?
Sent from my SM-P600 using XDA Premium HD app
Yeah the indexservice did the exact same to mine, Samsung were no help. Happened even when I put PDF's on internal storage.
I had no other choice but to root it and freeze the service with titanium backup, I really didn't want to, but I was left with no other choice.
As I had gone that far I also froze a bunch of other Samsung apps/services - I am so glad I did, the tab absolutely flys along now - feels like a different machine.
Root it, you won't be disappointed
Sony released a statement suggesting disabling the Google backup functions to improve battery life with kitkat Roms. If you don't need those maybe you wanna try that as well.
Settings/general/accounts and save&backup
It will likely fix itself after a few days. It happens on mine every few months for a day or two. Then it settles down and works normally. Same on all Samsung devices.
Has nothing to do with KitKat.
Sent from my SM-P600
I did some testing with an app to check cpu frequency and here's what I found:
Sometimes the tablet goes into "fury mode". Which means that as soon as there is any task for the cpu however small it may be it drives all cores to max 1.9ghz and full speed. Which means even while I'm browsing or watching a video the tablet runs about as hot as when playing an intense 3D game. And with equally bad battery life.
Really bad performance/efficiency handling. Like now I've been browsing(chrome) for 30 min and it ate 15% battery life and it's extremely hot on the back where the cpu is. There aren't any special processes running I've checked with watchtower. Cpu load is not that high but frequency has been constant 1.9ghz max speed on all cores... need custom Kernel PLZ.
I have to say though this is not always the case. Sometimes after a restart or when it was laying around for a while this fury mode doesn't happen.
just rooted and froze indexiservice using titanium backup...hopefully this will help
Ok looks like everything is good now.
Rooted and used titanium backup to freeze all the stupid stuff that was causing the device to get super hot

You and your phone. Battery life after LP update.

So has anyone noticed a severe drop in battery life since the LP update? My phone has dropped 6% using only XDA, on WiFi, and on 18% brightness. I can't go half a day before the bat is at 50%.

Mine is slightly better
Mine is actually a bit better once I re-flashed stock and upgraded to lollipop, I had some stability issues when I flashed lollipop via twp. the tot restore method helped me.
I'm getting 4 1/2 hours + SOT and It's lasting me a whole day, on auto brightness.
My battery has been a bit better when the screen is not in use(i.e. sitting in pocket idle or streaming music), but it seems worse then before when the screen is on.
Ya I'm not sure what's going on, but I find I am having to charge it more often during the day than I did before.

I've read about the heat issue but I haven't had it, BUT I did have to do a reset because my phone wouldn't after I first installed lollipop so that might be why I haven't had that issue.
Mines not that great either. I have greenify but not the xposed aspect, I have battery guru, I even installed a script which I normally don't do. All of this has helped minorly. Nothing like it was for me though. I factory reset when I flashed. Waiting to see if reports from official Ota has any differences.
Mine got bad first. Then I did a full factory reset and now its pretty good. Had 0% down after 12 hours at night. Normal workday usage went down from ~40% to ~25%. So instead of charging every other day I need to charge every 3 days.
I have thought about doing a factory reset to see if it helps. I know there was a cm app to backup your phone but idk if you need root. I have chosen to not root my phone, and wonder if you guys know of a good app to help backup my phone before doing so. Thanks.
I am looking into helium, has anyone had any experience good, or bad with this app?

Helium works well with early kitkat builds. the cloud backup option blows though. not too sure about using it on lollipop but being that it didn't work to well with late kitkat builds i doubt it'll be any better with lollipop.
also my battery life has gotten plenty better after updating and starting completely from scratch.
currently i'm sitting at 35% with 14hr and 17 min run time, auto brightness, wifi turned on and jumping back and fourth between lte because my router is going dead...

Is this normal lollipop battery life for a Note 3

OK I had 3 notes all on kitkat and the note is notorious for excellent life mainly even up until kitkat .What's the scoop on the drain since 5.0?
Any fixes floating around ?
I know the s6 had some issues with deep sleep and Volte being a culprit!
This is sad news lol I haven't ran across any threads discussing it or a fix .
Currently on dompop v5
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Free mobile app
I am not sure what battery problem you have, but I am using Lollipop with LeanKernel 6.16 and greenify will give me about 2 days of usage or about 8-9 hours of screen time(auto brightness). Are you playing graphic intensive games all day? Is your screen brightness turn up really high? Did you check for background app eating up your battery?
Ive been flashing roms for ever ,I know all the battery life tweak tricks in settings turning off GPS disabling motion all that
... this lollipop drain is a wide spread issue not just with note 3 it's on any device , it's all over Google , evem on dompop it drains so I don't get where people say they can't see drain every time they stare at the battery icon 1% every 2-4 minutes , I know this cause my s6, did dame thing My n3 on kit Kat is not like this , so I had to odin... back to kitkat and it's half as rough as lollipop.

Agree.
You can always install cm12 which works same as Nexus 5, only more customizations.
G3 has better display, battery life, camera, build, etc.
Because it always heat up and it lag. I have tried everything that I can find here in XDA to get rid of those issues but none of it worked for me.

I've tried all the custom roms here which were built by great devs but it seems that the heating and lag issue is a dead end.

I sometimes watch youtube for 2-3 hours straight in my bed while charging and it barely gets little warm. (with 60% brightness)

I'm currently on Paranoid 5.1 their latest release. Stocks rom are too laggy. And even I'm on a rom that is developed by one of the main stream developers it still lag sometimes and heat up.

NO NO NO! DO NOT SWITCH!
I currently have a Nexus 5, it has so many build quality issues, and it also lags a lot. And not to speak about battery life...
My brother's G3 is better in any aspect: performance, battery life, features, ergonomics, camera, speakers, display.. Only updates are better on the Nexus, and OEMs are getting better at this too)
actually, I used a Nexus 5 since their release, until February when I switched to the G3. so far here is what I can say about either phone:
nexus 5:
+size. easier to hold than the G3
+smoothness/responsiveness. lag free 60fps
+screen. even though some N5 screens suffer from either yellow or red tint, there's something about the N5 screen that makes it look exceptionally sharp even next to the G3's qHD screen.
-speaker
+build material
+build aesthetics
+active development
+4-5hrs SOT usually
-no sd
G3:
+camera. G3 is the clear winner either on stock or AOSP.
+screen. sharper than the N5 and larger, but somehow the N5's still puts up a good fight against the G3's.
+speaker. pretty good speaker compared to the N5, especially with viper4android.
+ambidextrous buttons. I hated the N5's right handed button placement.
-lag/thermal issue. there is only slight lag on this phone if you set it up right (Cloudy G3 5.0 is nearly lag free with the new thermal mod, so is Mokee AOSP, ParanoidAndroid 5.0 and Resurrection Remix 5.0 with stock kernel and thermal mod)
+slightly waterproof. I have this phone in my hand in the hot steamy shower daily. many other people have reported getting moisture in their G3 with no consequences.
+resembles a big ass nexus 5, especially in darker settings. this is obviously an opinion.
+~4hrs SOT usually
honestly for the first month I considered selling the G3 and getting an HTC one M8 but I stuck it out and was fortunate enough to find a good setup for stock and a good setup for AOSP where the phone doesn't lag or overheat and it feels nearly identical to the N5.
