You and your phone. Battery life after LP update. - T-Mobile LG G3

So has anyone noticed a severe drop in battery life since the LP update? My phone has dropped 6% using only XDA, on WiFi, and on 18% brightness. I can't go half a day before the bat is at 50%.

Mine is slightly better
Mine is actually a bit better once I re-flashed stock and upgraded to lollipop, I had some stability issues when I flashed lollipop via twp. the tot restore method helped me.
I'm getting 4 1/2 hours + SOT and It's lasting me a whole day, on auto brightness.

My battery has been a bit better when the screen is not in use(i.e. sitting in pocket idle or streaming music), but it seems worse then before when the screen is on.

Ya I'm not sure what's going on, but I find I am having to charge it more often during the day than I did before.

I've read about the heat issue but I haven't had it, BUT I did have to do a reset because my phone wouldn't after I first installed lollipop so that might be why I haven't had that issue.

Mines not that great either. I have greenify but not the xposed aspect, I have battery guru, I even installed a script which I normally don't do. All of this has helped minorly. Nothing like it was for me though. I factory reset when I flashed. Waiting to see if reports from official Ota has any differences.

Mine got bad first. Then I did a full factory reset and now its pretty good. Had 0% down after 12 hours at night. Normal workday usage went down from ~40% to ~25%. So instead of charging every other day I need to charge every 3 days.

I have thought about doing a factory reset to see if it helps. I know there was a cm app to backup your phone but idk if you need root. I have chosen to not root my phone, and wonder if you guys know of a good app to help backup my phone before doing so. Thanks.
I am looking into helium, has anyone had any experience good, or bad with this app?

Helium works well with early kitkat builds. the cloud backup option blows though. not too sure about using it on lollipop but being that it didn't work to well with late kitkat builds i doubt it'll be any better with lollipop.
also my battery life has gotten plenty better after updating and starting completely from scratch.
currently i'm sitting at 35% with 14hr and 17 min run time, auto brightness, wifi turned on and jumping back and fourth between lte because my router is going dead...

SOLVED: ICS Upgrade Myth Dispelled - Factory Reset Does Not Fix Battery Drain

EDIT: Please read this entire thread, there's some good info. Every phone and every situation is different, however it turns out my battery drain was the result of my phone not hitting "Deep Sleep". The culprit was my SD card, if you're experiencing battery drain after upgrading to ICS try removing your SD card and restarting your phone, use the app CPU SPY to verify your phone is now hitting "Deep Sleep". Again please read on, amidst some trolls there is more detailed information.
SIDENOTE: This being my first thread I have to say on the whole I really like this community!
I never thought I'd be that guy saying don't upgrade to ICS, because the OS is so slick and fun. However the glitch with the battery drain nullifies it's value. My brand new phone, less than two months old will die before the end of the day without me making a single phone call. I'm talking maybe an 1 to 1.5 hours of use texting, checking mail, surfing, and my battery now runs dead before I even get home from work. If you go into Settings > Battery it will show you the break down of what's using what. At the top should be your display, it takes a lot of power for to run the ultra bright display and this is what I saw before the ICS update. After the update these are the numbers:
Android OS: 58%
Screen: 18%
Cell Standby: 10%
Phone Idle: 7%
Android System: 2%
The OS is taking 58% of the battery?!? This is crazy! The buzz going around the net is if you do a factory reset it will fix the issue, well it does, but only for a very short time.
I went through the pain and formatted my SD card, then did a factory reset on my phone lost everything, well I backed it up, but still was a long process. After all that I loaded up my apps, and everything looked great. If you I went into the battery break down Screen was back at the top and the Android OS was several rungs below. I was SO happy! It was worth it after all.... THEN
Imagine my chagrin I woke up this morning to a full charge. Didn't make one phone call, just checked a couple emails, and being only a HOUR into my day my battery is at 76%!! I look back at the battery break down, and there's Android OS sitting at the top, draining double the battery juice as the screen display. I mean this almost makes ICS useless, what good is this great cell phone if you have to be tethered to a power cord. WTF!! Point being, don't bother resetting your phone, it DOES NOT permanently help. If you haven't upgraded to ICS don't, we're all just screwed until they come out with a fix, and you see how long it took them just to get ICS.
I don't know what happened between last night and today, but my hope is some dev person will read this and it will help them pinpoint the issue.

Nope, the only thing I backed up was pics, music, and video, and I combed through those folders to make sure there were no sys files.
It sounds more like your battery is going bad. You can go to Sprint store and they will test your battery for you.
You might also want to get a battery monitoring program and see what is using the battery up.

its not a ics glitch its your phone lol.. ive never had this issue.. plus with the source kernels coming out and with roms/tweaks already out youcan increase battery life yourself.. because your battey cant keep a charge you bash ics? go back to gingerbread then lol. i can use my phone for two hours and leave it off charger over night and still have at least 50% charge

Having a bad battery would not make Android OS use the majority of his power though. I have had this problem myself in the past and never did figure out exactly what stopped it. Running Blue Kuban now and my battery life, though never great, is reasonable. FYI, I also run Juice Defender which makes a substantial difference for me.
Running pretty much stock ICS FF18, just have agat safe recovery/kernal installed. Yesterday I left Wimax on all day and when I went to charge it last night it had about 28% left. I made several phone calls, many texts/whatsapp messages, reading emails and using twiitter/fb a couple of times.
The battery life on this is not the greatest, for example, I forgot to turn off wifi when I left my house the other day, well my battery dropped about 30% in just a few hours. I now find that just leaving Wimax on all day is actually better and pretty much on par with just having 3G on, I prefer wifi at home but if I forget to turn it off it kills my battery.
I was so used to Blazers 4.1 battery life, the battery lasted forever and I could leave wifi, bluetooth etc on all day. Just hoping for the ROMs to start incorporating the recently released source so that we can get better battery life on these great ROMS.
This is all known information. That's why you use custom roms that have much better battery life.

I had same issue here with custom rom FF18 touched by SGS3. Went back to EL29, FF18 is glitchy and slower anyway.
Confirmed, factory reset battery drain exists.
OP, why don't you put up a screenshot of your battery graph? The expanded one, not the one that lists the percentages.
There are a number of reasons why this could be happening. One of my biggest drainers on CM9 was Google login service, turned out the "keep this device backed up with Google" in the backup and reset settings was completely preventing my phone from going to sleep. This is but one example.

You guys need to quit crying wolf and figure out what is really draining your battery. Maybe your google drive is syncing, or you have facebook running, or email is pulling too often, ICS does not kill battery rogue apps and wrong settings do.

I'm a super n00b, if you or someone could link me to the best ICS ROM the cool kids are using I can figure out how to install it.
-----
However bottom line, before ICS upgrade my battery life was great and my Android OS was not 50% of my battery power. I'm not rooted or have any custom anything, after the ICS upgrade my battery drains rapidly. I'm willing to do what it takes to get it fixed, however I do fully put the blame on ICS, I'm using stock everything, the battery is good, something in that update is screwing my battery.
All I was trying to do was give developers, a little insight that the factory reset temporarily fixed the issue, for 3-4 hours before bed I monitored it and everything was good. So hopefully this will help turn the light bulb on in someone else's head.

ICS works really well for some, but for others it renders the phone completely useless. I'm one that it won't work for as well. The battery life is **** and 4g connectivity is non existent. As a result, I'm back to EL29/GB until a patch is made.
I spent 4 days after teh OTA was released trying to find fixes, trying to make it work, using different kernals and modems, but had no success. I posted about it many times and more or less was told that I was doing it wrong.
On that not, good luck mate. Here's to hoping for a patch from samsung soon. :good:

I have a thread stickied in general called "welcome to he et4g" that might be a good place for you to start, from there you'll figure out what you need to search for to learn more... there is no best rom its a matter of opinion, so read the dev threads and see what looks good to you... bottom line without seeing more information from you I would guess you have something running in the background preventing deep sleep, as mentioned earlier... also are you leaving wifi, Bluetooth, etc on? That'll kill your battery quick... do you live in an area with poor sprint signal? Constantly searching for service will also drain you battery. What do you have to set up to sync? And how often? There are easy ways to prolong battery life on ff18 and the vast majority of people complaining about battery life have not taken positive steps to learn more and resolve their own issues... it can be done, good luck

[Q] What is the typical battery life on a stock/unrooted One?

First off, I would like to say that I have searched several times for this answer to no avail.
I just came from a Maxx HD (XT926) which obviously had phenomenal battery life. So I'm not terribly surprised by the reduced battery life moving to the One. However, I'm currently only getting about 8 hours off of the charger with 2.5 hours screen time. Via GSam, there do not appear to be any terrible wake locks or rampant apps running in the background. I typically observe a wake time of +/- 10 minutes from my screen on time.
My typical usage right now is some heavy texting, light Facebook browsing, a GroupMe thread, and that's about it.
System settings are generally screen brightness on one bar (from the notification pull down, not sure what the actual percentage is), wifi/bluetooth/gps OFF, NFC and mobile data on all the time.
I have disabled the location via wifi options, so that's not currently a factor either.
What is the typical off charger and screen time for you folks? I love the phone, but a bit frustrated with the ~10% per hour battery drain at idle...
Thanks in advance for any input!
unrooted this seems to be the norm. there's a slew of VZW bloat apps that will check to see if you are using them once an a while, also blink feed refreshing often will have this impact.
right now on rooted Ecliptic rom i can get about 12 hours up time with 3.5 hours screen and still have 45% battery left. This is mainly on 4g some WiFi. this a 4.4 rom and has the options to turn things off the stock system cant like blinkfeed.
-wait till the offical comes out ( rummored to be at the end of this month) it should help-

Thanks, Synisterwolf.
That definitely helps put to bed some of the concerns I was having.
I'm definitely not opposed to rooting, but if I remember correctly, build 2.10.605.1 doesn't yet have an exploit, correct?
Again, thanks for the input.
That seems low to me, even for stock. Granted I debloated even when I was running stock, since I was rooted. I was getting closer to 3.75 hours of screen time for that amount of time off charger. But like I said, I was debloated.
Edit: I also don't use NFC, so that was off too. Not sure how much NFC affects the battery, as I've never really used it on any phone I've had.

You can range between 8 and 16 unrooted stock. Depends on the use age and what you use. I do know with viper ROM and elemental x kernel its has superior deep sleep and hardly uses the battery at all. To give you an example of stock and other ROMs/ kernels I use to get about 14 while at work and finish with about 14% battery life at the end of my 12 hr shift. With my current setup I can go the 14 hr run and have between 75 to 65 percent battery life left and this is with sync active for mail Facebook and so on. So that's just an example of stock vs rooted.

With moderate use I drain about 40-50% of the battery throughout a 15 hour day. I'm running a battery saving script though which disables 2 minutes after screen off for cellular and 7 for wifi with interval updates. I also disabled a bunch of permissions for apps that I know I'll never need but for apps I frequent. On average I use my GPS for about 20-30 minutes of the day playing Ingress.
If I'm at work I only lose about 35% battery throughout the entire day. I only send/receive a total of about 100 text a day, and don't game other than Ingress. Very light Facebook use, browsing, and such.
Unrooted/Stock
Those usage times are pretty good for stock. I would be happy with anything over 12 hours right now.
I did notice bit better battery life after freezing/disabling some of the stock bloatware, but now I'm trying out an old fallback: JuiceDefender.
So far, it seems to be helping substantially (although it obviously only helps during idle times as it shuts off mobile data until the screen is on/unlocked), but I'll wait until I've had a full cycle before passing any final judgement.

I'm totally stock and I regularly get 30 or more hours of battery. And I don't just keep my phone on the desk all day. I get 3.5-4 hours screen on time. 10% drain when not using your phone seems like an awful lot.
I have everything off that I don't need or use. That's pretty much it. I'm also on WiFi pretty much all the time too at home and at work. Don't know if that has anything to do with it
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk
Yeah, WiFi doesn't kill the battery nearly as much as the CDMA/LTE radio does. Unfortunately, I have both poor signal, AND lack of WiFi at work. Haha. Oh well.

So question, where are you finding these screen on numbers? I looked under battery and the usage part shows apps but not screen on. The graph shows when the screen is on at what point during the day but no durations are given.

[Q] horrible battery life since KitKat update Sprint g2.

Any other g2 users having major battery issues? Sprint g2, some apps and bloatware frozen/removed. Rooted as well. Battery dropped 38 percent in 4 hours with little to no use. Location services are off. Shows that android operating system using around 40 percent. Any idea of what is causing this? So far, not loving the update and the issues its having.
Absolutely not... Quite the opposite. I'm on a custom ROM but I used ZV7 ZV8 & ZVA before with no issues. That's one great thing about the G2 is the Snap Dragon processors are great on the battery, a charge lasts a long time and the battery never gets hot even with constant tethering and heavy usage. You should try the Snap Dragon battery guru app in the play store at: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xiam.snapdragon.app which is great for saving juice. Or takes a couple days to get full effect cause it learns your patterns and stops apps from refreshing during times when you don't use them, cuts of WiFi and or data during times when you aren't using it. Also I'd check your battery usage stats and see what processes are draining it the most. Is most likely an app or 2 draining a lot of your battery, so the battery guru will stop that from happening during times that you don't use those apps.
Sent from my LS980 4G using Tapatalk
Its very common after a firmware update for a battery to go outta whack. It may be that you need to recalibrate it. After any firmware update its adviseable to so a factory reset at 100% battery level. Then use your phone normally till the battery dies and phone shuts down. Plug in the phone and let it charge to 100% while off. Turn it on, and use it till the batt dies again. Repeat charging to 100% with phone off.
That may solve your issue. Fully cycle the battery 2x.

I got the ZVC OTA, then I flashed the zvc .tot after accidently deleting supporting services for voice mail (Skyfire Observer and Sprint Extension provider) after flashing Im at 7hrs 30mins Screen Time surfing web with 15% battery left on first day, before that I got little over 6hrs with 0% battery and all the same apps. Do a factory reset after OTA that might help or flash the ZVC.tot for a complete fresh install like I did.
Just an FYI Swype connect is a known battery killer for some its mentioned on their forums and it sometimes runs even when all connect features are blocked.
Another thing block location services when not needed it will save a nice amount of battery life.

I think its a problem with 4.4.2, google is fixing that in 4.4.3. Also make sure Sprint Connections Optimizer is really off.
The only issue I've seen is Bluetooth showing up under battery stats as being used at around 50-55% yesterday with a runtime of over a day. I'm thinking its just a reporting bug since I haven't used Bluetooth at all and I don't see a noticeable drop in battery but if it is using it I'd definitely like to curb it.
anyone with a similar issue or possible idea on fixing it? Running stock zvc unrooted

That's weird, never had that happen to me. Did you Factory reset after OTA? Sometimes that helps.

I get 7.5 hrs and 15% battery left at 50% Brightness, location and autosync drain battery a lot as I mentioned before. Also use task manager to autoblock Sprint apps and uncheck Sprint Connections Optimizer it eats battery, Lastly Swype connect runs even when online features are disabled and eats battery, there are many complaints about that on Swype forum as well.
Im mostly on WiFI and have full signal due to Airave (no LTE) so I guess that helps too. All those things add up, I'm sure you can achieve that screen time as well.
By factory reset, do you guys mean in settings? I need to reset, but I don't have a computer at the moment so I can't reflash tot.

[Q] Battery drain after Looking lollipop update

My note 4 battery is draining rapidly after the lollipop update. I've read that some have had to do a factory reset and that has resolved the issue but (and forgive me for asking) doesn't that wipe everything from your phone? There has to be a better way. I've got so much music and pictures I don't want to lose and I'm not very savvy when it comes to transferring stuff.
Any thoughts? It's much appreciated!!!
I am having the same issue. Yes factory reset will wipe phone. I did a factory reset before installing rom. But still have battery drain.

Well that isn't good news. I've noticed it takes longer to charge than normal too. I hope there's a fix for this soon.
I just did a factory reset I'll post my experience after I give it time

You guys should probably give this a few day before wondering about battery life.

I'll turn blue in the face saying this. People just don't get it.
Battery life will probably suck at first
Phone probably will run hot at first
Phone probably will lag/stutter
Phone might have graphical glitches
...if you have any problems like these, factory reset and STILL give it a few days.
I factory reset mine last night after 24hrs and it seems a tiny bit better but. ANDROID SYSTEM is still at the top of my stats and its climbing in percentage and im on wifi ac

I REALLY don't want to have to do a factory reset. I sure hope it gets better as 'blue in the face' poster says. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Please let me know if anyone has any positive changes over the next few days without doing a reset or if you find anything else that works besides a reset.
Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Sorry you are having issues, but I am not. I get 5-6 hours of screen time on, 18+ hours. There has to be something some are doing that others aren't? Or maybe a certain app that doesn't agree with LP that some don't have installed.

Sorry then, i quoted your comment because i thought you know much more than me by reading the previous posts.
Ao if anybody can help me i'll be thankful
Settings> Data usage> Mobile Data> uncheck enhanced 4G lte services
On kitkat I was seeing 5-6.5 hours of screen time. Now on lollipop I get about 4-4.5 Hours. I have done a clean factory install and wiped the cache. Android system is always at the top for me as well and it wasn't with kitkat. I actually have less apps and data on my phone now than I did on kitKat because I wiped everything. Ive been using lollipop for about a week now. This is obviously an issue within lollipop itself. I have mirrored the same settings that i had in kitkat, disabled as many useless apps and files that i can, and I'm using it exactly as I was on kitkat. Can someone just root this phone already?! PLEASE? (I won't hold my breath lol)

I noticed that just by changing that setting I get two days easy on one charge, please note that when I say two days I'm not on my phone all the time, typically I pull my phone out at work for demo purposes, I'm browsing the Internet on down time, I'm streaming music on my drive home or I'm texting or playing a simple game. Anyways, not sure why the enhanced services drains battery so badly but after I turned it off on kk and updated it was back on and I had horrible battery life, was gonna factory reset but then checked this and it was on again so now I'm back up to two days on a charge.
My first day running Lollipop I got around 5.5 hrs SOT and phone was on for more than 13 hrs and still had about 12% so I'm getting around the same battery life on heavy usage that I had on Kit Kat. I'm having no issues with Lollipop as of now. Before I downloaded Lollipop I moved all my important files to my SD card and then I updated. Right after the update, I went into recovery, cleared the cache and factory reset within recovery. I've had a very smooth experience ever since.

I have found a fix that has worked for me without resetting. I cleared my cache partition and now I'm back to almost as good as it was. Not quite 100%, but it's a drastic improvement. I'd suggest trying this before doing a factory reset. It worked for me.
And FYI, I tried waiting for as long as I could stand it and it didn't get even a little better.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
No question about the Enhanced 4G LTE setting. I was already getting at least as good and probably marginally better battery life after 5.01. Turning off enhanced 4G services has given even much better battery life. Just as others have seen, Android system has dropped in usage. In fact it is amazing how long this phone can now go between charges.
After a week of 5.0.1 (see nothing difference of the interface cause ATT made it). I have to switch back to 4.4 for some of the features missing/not support and i got back my best battery life. It's ok in 5.0.1 but 4.4 battery is best.
In 5.0.1 i got around 3h screen time and it's drain faster.
Note: below is my 6months old battery. Not new

[Q] Battery Life Issues

I received my S6 Edge on Wednesday and rooted it the same day via Ping Pong. I'm on G925TUVU1AOCG. Is that even the latest version? Anyways, battery life is literally ****. I can't get more than 2 hours of Screen on Time. Even my Galaxy Nexus from 2012 gets at least 2+ hours.
Is this because I'm not on the latest version, rooted, or something else people have experience with?
I've had horrible battery life since I've rooted using ping pong this week. I don't think my phone is going into deep sleep but haven't checked it yet. It drains fast when not being used.

Yea so I flashed the stock ROM with Odin and unrooted. I didn't wipe data however. But battery life still sucks. For anyone that cares .
I read a trick about disabling google now and it seemed to help drastically.

I went through this issue with my first S6. Re-root and download better battery stats - or CPU Spy. See if your phone is going into deep sleep. Mine was constantly kept awake by lli_pm_wlock. I couldn't find ANY information about it on the internet - but it was keeping the cores active and burning through battery like crazy. It would occasionally enter deep sleep, but only for a few minutes at a time.
I ended up returning the phone and getting my new S6 Edge. I tried everything - factory resets, flashing stock firmware via Odin, basically everything possible without tripping KNOX with a custom kernel.
My battery life has been awful. Specially after rooting with Ping Pong and specifically last night. 100% at 10PM, and at 11AM with 58 minutes of on screen time, the battery was at 13%. That is just horrible. Worst battery life I have ever gotten out of the phone.
Pains me to say it, but if the battery doesn't improve by unrooting it, and waiting for a future update to 5.1, I'll most likely change to a LG G4.

If you have it rooted install Better Battery Stats and figure out the problem. If it's a wakelock, the problem is it's just not going to sleep. Something is keeping the CPU active even when the screen is off and nothing is going on. It's a common problem on the rooted phones - but usually PingPong Root doesn't have the issue. Enter recovery (turn off - then power, vol up, home at the same time) and clear the cache. Reboot and run BBS for a while.

I also have the same experience but instead I just keep my phone on Ultra Saving mode
It's been really difficult for me to try to drain my phone to see my average screen on time.
But is this normal? I'm not sure what is a decent Deep Sleep percentage.
Btw: This is after I unrooted without factory reset.

Yea we're having very similar issues. I would try the G4, but the Edge is too beautiful!! This is the first time I've gotten a phone so soon after release, so I'm probably gonna stick it out for a month or 2 and wait for bug fixes.

That is not normal. Backup your data and flash stock firmware with SmartSwitch then restore what you want. See if that makes your battery last any longer.

I had horrible battery life when I got it out of box. It wouldn't last more than 5 hrs with very little use. After I flashed stock firmware with SmartSwitch, Battery+ RAM Usage issue got solved. Now I get whole day with single charge. I take my phone out from charger by 7 AM and by the time 10 PM in night, Phone would still have 35-40% battery left. I get many emails [50+], 2hrs of GPS+Music streaming + random facebook & Instagram and even after this, I get good battery life. So I would 1000% recommend that you do a flash stock firmware with SmartSwitch.

I tried using SmartSwitch and unfortunately, battery life was only a tiny bit better. However, I started getting a bunch of force closes, and the phone became laggier than before. I would try it again, but it's so much work resetting up my phone! ...especially without root.
So I ordered the G4. Hopefully I'll be getting the Note 5 in a few months .
