I'm a bit confused about how to avoid problems after unrooting and trying to do an OTA update.
Is it ok to uninstall ANY preinstalled apps? I understand the dangers of uninstalling system apps after rooting....but is it ok to uninstall other bloatware like TripAdvisor and games which come with their own uninstaller and can be uninstalled even without rooting?

The general rule (which I learned the hard way) is to freeze system apps instead of uninstalling them. That way if you get any force close errors or problems you can unfreeze them right away. For example, uninstalling WhatsNext caused my camera to stop working properly.

Thanks. But for things like TripAdvisor it's OK to uninstall them in the usual way i.e. without rooting?

Yeah, I uninstalled TripAdvisor and Omlet Chat and Dr Virus (or whatever), etc as soon as I turned on the device. Anything included app that allows to to uninstall it normally through the launcher can be uninstalled safely.

After uninstalling, were you able to get updates through OTA?

Well, my phone is rooted and has xposed installed, so I haven't tried installing an OTA update yet. Too lazy to unroot and uninstall xposed. I think I'm going to wait for a few more updates to roll by and then do them all at once.

Hello everyone:
What to do with bloatware?
I uninstalled some of the obvious bloatware after rooting.
I do not use Facebook, Google + etc. but I am not sure if it is a good idea to uninstall them?
Ideas on what is needed for absolute functioning of the unit and what can be deleted or uninstalled are very welcome.
Thank you,
bayankaran

Your phone will continue to function as normal after uninstalling those apps if that's what you are asking
Don't uninstall anything related to Sense or Android system. 3rd party system apps that you don't use are generally safe to uninstall. Don't uninstall Sense widgets.
Before you uninstall stuff, do a nandroid backup in CWM Recovery. Then backup the apps and uninstall them using Titanium Backup. If you're unsure about uninstalling an app, you can also freeze it in Titanium Backup to see if there is any adverse affect.
Dont uninstall, instead freeze unwanted apps using titanium backup.

Thanks to all of you. I guess Freezing is the way to go.
Does anyone have a list of safe bloatware to uninstall? e.g. at&t Navigator.
The reason I ask is because I changed my DPI and even after a factory reset it was stuck at "at&t ready2go" i believe it is due to the app being uninstalled...
Any help would be appreciated.

If you are not sure. Rather than uninstalling right away, you can disable the app from application manager.
Note: if app has been updated, you need to uninstall updates first then disable.
Here's what I have disabled on mine:

I didnt know stock could "freeze" apps. this means i dont need titanium backup. LOL. i guess back ups are good. but this is great info. thank you so much. If you factory reset, they are then enabled i take it.
Thanks!

I did the exact same thing as dnanj, I took everything AT&T and froze it. I did not touch any of the Samsung apps and of course the Google apps (I'm bowing to my Google overlords as I type this) as I would assume they would interfere with their U/I and OS.
Many applications still do not work yet in Lollipop.
So to remove system apps this one works great:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumobile.manager.systemapp
If you remove but keep the app in recycle bin thos equals a freeze and if the app is deleted from recycle will be definetely removed.
Edit.
Thanks to GROGG88 found a new and better one working with lollipop
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.curlybracket.backup&hl=en
This app also backup your apps data and more
Why not use the disable and/or uninstall function that's built into the app manager? Freezing and/or removing apps will cause issues with OTAs unless reversed.

Can the stock app manager delete system apps?

Freezing apps got nothing to do with OTA problems, just removing

Nope, and there's ZERO reason to remove them. Just disable them. If nothing else, you can use pm disable
It doesn't break OTAs and it doesn't soft brick you if you remove the wrong thing.

Clearly you don't own a Nexus 10. The lollipop images are made that there is ZERO bytes left in the /system partition, therefore whatever you try to install there (battery stats, busybox, appops) will fail.

Don't the system apps still have a DEX file in the /data partition/area taking up space?
Just got my zenfone 2 a few days ago and battery life isn't exactly as great as I'd hope (besides the 5.0 leak) so what apps are safe to freeze with Titanium Backup?
Here's what I froze without a problem. Anyone please add to this.

I used Titanium Backup Pro.
totenkopf_name, you can uninstall most of the preloaded third party software and Google apps can be disabled without root, and still get OTA. Actually, any app that you are able to uninstall, or disable without root won't affect updates.
I use those, but haven't updated in a while (features may have changed):
Advanced Tools
System Tuner
Hey
Anyone having Problems with deinstalling the system apps too?
I am successfully rooted and tried to deinstall YouTube/maps/chrome etc., but the always come back after reboot.i am trying with titanium backup, magisk debloat and magisk App systemizer, but no matter which way I choose.. The result ist always the same...
As I understood, system apps are on read-only partition, so it's near impossible to get rid of them. I managed to remove them usind adb, but I think it's not permanent solution.

Try this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-uninstall-apps-t3776235/amp/
Open the link in a browser.
When you uninstall an app, you may need to try a couple of times, but it does go away.
Other solution is to freeze the app with TiBackup. Almost the same, the apps even stay frozen after an update.

Yes... Did this too. But sadly it is not a solution for YouTube-vanced...
Agree with all fronts. Very annoying. I'm hoping that titanium is able to fix this issue soon
