I finally decided to go on contract (sort of) with sprint instead of using Virgin mobile so last month I went from my LG Volt to a Samsung Galaxy s3 (L710).
Last night, I decided I was going to try to root it since it was an older model and should root without issue. I attempted to use the Kingo root app to do so since I could not get TowelRoot working (4.4.2 android)
At the end of the rooting cycle, my phone rebooted and LO and behold, the root failed and I was stuck in download mode (with a message that pops up if I don't boot in download mood that says the firmware update was corrupt)
I've been trying to research on this (and ended up having to format my PC last night because I went to that malware infested Odin site).
I now have a functioning copy of Odin on my PC and it's detecting the phone just fine. I downloaded a firmware copy (4.1.2) and tried flashing it with Odin but it gave me the failed message.
I'm a ta loss
Right now, I have the "downloading..." screen pulled up

If anyone has any tips to get this back into working order, please let me know. It only costed me 50 dollars but I don't want to shell that money out again
If there is a way to fix this and still root it, I would very much enjoy that. Otherwise, I just want my phone back up and working
Solved it and got root. Happy day
Help
Hey I did the same thing and cannot get odin to work....I keep getting fail. Can you link me to the files you used, And let me know what you did different?
I get the same thing that you did. It lets me know the phone is connected but when I push start it goes through a couple steps then fails.

I cannot get my phone to boot up. It loads the splash screen and gets stuck there. It doesn't move past that screen. I've tried multiple times going into recovery mode but it won't go. I can get into download mode though. I've tried using Odin 3.07 to reflash the KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 from the back to stock rar I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41340941 and I do not know what to do next. I've even tried flashing a recovery tar file I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2533333. I've also tried removing the battery, replacing the battery (I have a second battery), and even if I power off the device and plug it up to my charger it loads the splash screen and stays there. I've looked around online and found this http://www.note2forum.com/forum/galaxy-note-2-help/1530-troubleshooting-samsung-galaxy-phone-bootloop.html#post20381 but can't even get to recovery mode to do a data wipe. The last thing I was able to do successfully with my phone was get it back to stock so and do the update to 4.1.2 because it was on 4.1.1 and I've seen something called SDS while searching. Is that what happened here? Is my phone able to be repaired? When I'm in download mode the upper left corner shows the following information:

I'm doing some serious reaching here because this is my primary phone, and I'm not familiar with PIT files but what I briefly read stated something about identifying which files go to which partition. I have no experience or knowledge of bootloader functions/changes and I've never checked more than auto reboot and reset time in ODIN. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Update!!! OMG I'm so happy to make progress. I flashed in ODIN the 4.3param_tz.tar file found herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2497994 and it successfully rebooted me into CWM. I will post the results of a ROM restore I'm attempting shortly. I was able to complete a full restore of a previous ROM and my phone is now currently booting up as I type this. Hopefully nothing goes wrong, but I've gotten farther now than I have in the past 5 hours I've been glued to my laptop. Time for a cig and beer.

Hello,
I'm semi-new to flashing/rooting/custom roms, etc. I say "semi-new" because I used to know what I was doing - but it's been quite awhile. Here's my situation.
I was doing some Spring cleaning the other day and found my old T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 lying around. I upgraded to the S5 awhile back, and forgot about the S3.
So I figured, "I'll sell this on eBay and make some cash!". Reasonable thought, right? I went into Security and started a Factory Reset to wipe all the data off the phone before I sold it.
Oops! Guess what? I had a Custom Recovery on the phone. Completely forgot I had rooted the device and put CWM on it.
No worries, I thought to myself - I'll use ODIN and flash the Stock Rom back on it.
So I did some research on the web and then went to Sammobile and downloaded the 4.3 firmware for SGH-T999 (March 2014). The file is: T999UVUENC2
I connected my phone to Odin, made sure re-partition was NOT checked, and attached the T999UVUENC2 file to PDA and hit Start.
So that went through successfully, according to Odin, HOWEVER, upon reboot, the phone froze on "Samsung" with the blue glow, and the LED slowly pulsated a blue light.
*** At this point I probably should have stopped what I was doing and contacted the forum ***
But I didn't.
After doing some more research, I tried to downgrade to an older version of the Stock Firmware, but I couldn't.
I then installed CWM Recovery (successfully) and tried to install Cyanogenmod 11, with the hope of installing a custom ROM, and then going back to Stock. However, I kept getting ASSERT (ro.bootloader) errors when I tried to flash CM 10.2 and CM 11 (using an SD Card from Recovery).
Now, the phone won't boot up past the initial Samsung Galaxy SIII logo.
When I boot into Download mode, this is what I see
ODIN MODE
Product Name: SGH-T999
Custom Binary Download: Yes (5 counts)
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Official
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable
Warranty Bit: 1
Bootloader AP SWREV: 1
I should mention, Kies does not recognize my phone. So there's that. I was hoping to do the Emergency Firmware Initialization/Upgrade using my Serial Number but the phone won't recognize my phone when I go into Recovery Mode. Do I need to re-install the stock recovery?
So, anyway, yes, I messed up, and I am for many of you, you may be rolling your eyes going, "What did you do?!??!" As someone who works in IT, I know that feeling all too well. But, if anyone in the forum will have mercy on me, I would be much obliged!!
Is my phone savable without having to send it in somewhere and paying $50 to have them un-brick it?
Thank for taking the time to read, and I look forward to your replies.

This fixed my issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/fix-s3-to-factory-unroot-stock-recovery-t2323847
So I tried to search online for a solution but nothing is helping. What happened was I woke up one day and my Tmobile galaxy s3 4.3 was showing the samsung logo for about 5 minutes. I removed my battery and turned the phone on. It turned on and then instantly the screen died. I'm somewhat of a newbie to phones...but i tried everything...download mode, recovery, safe mode, connecting to a computer cant recognize my device, and its not charging, no vibration when holding power button (hard bricked). I tried custom ROMs a while back and it messed up so i went back to stock with just root access. I found a video on YouTube that "helped" me. I followed his steps correctly and the phone did come alive...but it came alive to a screen I've never seen before. His video talked me through downloading a debrick file specific for T999 4.3 and then using a program called Win32 disk imager. His instructions were to extract the file and place it on my 16gb micro sd card and then place into my phone, so the file revived my phone because the phone finally turned on but I cant access the phone. Which leads me to my question (sorry for length, thought i would clarify all)... the screen I'm seeing right now is an all black screen with words in the top left, no android recovery logo or yellow triangle logo. I've tried to turn on and off the phone and download and recovery mode etc but nothing works. The screen reads as following:
BOOT RECOVERY MODE
CHECK BOOT PARTITION. .
COPY FROM T-FLASH. .
BOOT RECOVERY. .
WRITE 159488 sectors. .
FLASH WRITE FAILURE
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-T999
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: NONE
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Warranty Bit: 1
BOOTLOADER AP SWREV: 1
So any advice to help me unbrick my T999? Is it still bricked? Is my only option a JTAG? I checked that i had root access with a root checker and I've had many apps that require root access so does that mean the file i downloaded unrooted my phone? If so, since my phone reads as official and not custom, could Tmobile fix my phone even if I'm without warranty.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

Good day!
I am in the same boot as you. My Tmobile S3 T999 just went black the other night all of sudden. It wouldn't not power up or do anything. Complete brick. I too loaded the image to SD card and the phone did turn on with the same message you got. But when I tried to flash with ODIN I get the "No pit partition" error every time. If anyone can help that would be great. Just need to be able to get my date off the phone such as photos and videos.

Were you able to figure this out or find something that could help fix this problem? I ran in to the same situation about a week ago. I cant find any threads on any forums that seem to be able to solve this.
Yeah ive been looking for a solution just to be able to revive it only once more to resave all my data. But then i got my s6 so now my s3 is just collecting dust until someone finds a new method
I am something of a long time XDA user, having been flashing since the time of the HTC Wizard. But I had never bothered rooting my S3 until I decided I need to install music on the SD card using doubletwist.
I installed the toolkit and the drivers properly but SuperSU 2.48 doesn't download (yes, I paid a donation), -error messages such as 'couldn't resolve host skipsoft.net' or 'HTTP doesn't seem to support byte ranges'
Option 1 loads what seemed to be an old (2.42?) version of the Odin flash tool: if I follow the instructions, the S3 does to into Download mode (with a message 'do not turn off target) and after about five minutes Odin shows FAIL on the TWRP recovery operation it seems to be executing. It then tells me to be patient while (I assume) rebooting but after about 30 minutes of waiting, the phone doesn't come out of download mode.
I then rebooted and tried to flash again and again, the flash failed completely, and the phone seems bricked, giving the error message 'firmware upgrade failed, use KIES recovery.
It does go into download mode but when connecting to (newly updated) KIES, the model isn't detected in the recovery procedure so it won't either recover itself or give me a code to do the KIES emergency recovery.
Currently showing in DL is:
ODIN MODE
custom binary downloads YES (1 counts)
curent binary: Custom
system status: Official
qualcomm secureboot:enable
warranty bit:0
bootloader AP SWREV:1
What is a recovery procedure please? KIES? Some other flasher? Some newer version of Odin?
Oh, and when I plug the phone into the computer, it suddenly recognizes it as an MSM8960, whatever that is?? Before the computer recognised it as the more normal SGT999. Also (this is obvious), the device is no longer recognized in Explorer once the device is connected if you connect it in DL.
Is an MSM8960 the same as a SGT999 in DL mode?
Sorry no one posted any tips or tricks on this request! In default, I ploughed ahead with the normal instructions, remembering that often when flashing doesn't work for no apparent reason, trying again does get everything to work
Re-flashed stock with Odin from download mode, which worked fine and unbricked phone. Then tried TWRP again, which worked fine as well, always providing instructions are followed.
Eventually found myself back at what looked like stock, but with message that I haven't rooted but would i like to do so now using the SuperSU that the toolkit said it was using? If so, down load it from the Playstore, which I didn't understand at all. I thought the playstore was against things like rooting?
Anyway, everything ran to completion, though I am still working on how to use DoubleTwist to transfer albums to the SD card on the Galaxy. (error message, apparently from SGS3 Easy UMS: 'You Do Not Appear to Have Busybox Installed', followed by loop of preparing SD card for mounting, mounting Then nothing by way of D card shows up in DoubleTwist)
Don't use toolkits, they are not updated and have caused many issues. To root, use towelroot

is there a list anywhere of devices which work with towelrroot please or is it only flavours of s3? i have a curious MK 6571 S6 which seems to defy identification because it isn't an iPhone knockoff and it is having the hardest of times addressing its hard drive. Whatever i try to install on it results in the error message that there isn't enough hard drive space to install. Towelroot also gives this error message which i believe to be entirely spurious, and it is a really tiny!! something appears to be preventing it installing any app on it which can read or influence any hardware on it?
(I also tried installing framarooot 193 but it gave me the same out of space error message)

hey friend, your woes sound alarmingly familiar to my own not so long ago. I will start this post by saying I am not going to come out and declare myself as anything but what I am, an average guy with an interest and at one time identical dilemma as yourself.
that being said what exactly are you trying to achieve an are you willing to start from scratch? are you backed up? these are my questions. in answering or perhaps confirming what you may know is that once rooted and subsequently bricked kies ceases to be a friend to your device and it is with odin that your phones future if is to have one lies. I personally have enjoyed much success with the program but at this point ive only done a handful of operations with it.
If what ive written has given you any encouragement please feel free to respond and I'll gladly explain what i did to restore my s3 because i wouldnt want to advise outside of something I have tried myself and know to be safe and conclude with a desirable result for you
Hi all,
so im coming here to ask you for a help.
Yesterday i have read about samsung pushing deactivating update for our notes 7, i have panicked and immediately started with installing TWRP, HydraRom and root to block incoming updates.
But, as i have already found out, my skills with android and flashing are already gone. So i have installed twrp, then rom and tried to reboot but phone was showing a lot of error messages and notification about low memory, which is weird. After couple of hours of seeking i have found out, that i should try to fix /data and /storage in TWRP by converting from EXT4 to ExFat... So i tried it, but phone suddenly died when it was repartitioning and now im stuck with note which is unable to boot or go to recovery. I can get into download mode yet when i try to flash anythin (whole rom, just bl, TWRP) odin shows immediately FAIL!
Does anyone know if there is way how to fix my note 7? I was thinking maybe a PIT file would help, but im unable to find one...
EDIT: Tried methods found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-7/how-to/fix-samsung-note-7-snapdragon-exynos-sm-t3443753 but no luck, same story with smartswitch as Odin, flash begins but immediately fails and note comes out of download mode.
So I have made decision, that I will add bounty - 50 bucks (will pay through PayPal) to anyone who will find way how to make my note work!
You should return your Note 7 to Samsung. Its safer and if want to do trial and error. I've found it possible to rescue any phone as long as you can put it in download mode ?
Sent from my SM-N930F using XDA-Developers mobile app
I know i should return it, but i really want to keep it atleast as a second phone, anyone has a solution please ?
Before trying to install twrp and custom Rom what firmware were you on? If I were you I'd download the stock firmware from Samsung site open Odin and put phone into download mode I'm sure that will work.
I was on the newest one, with green battery indicator. I have already tried flashing official rom downloaded from sammobile, but odin always only states fail! After a second, meanwhile phone leaves the download mode and gets stuck on bootloop.
When I try to entry recovery phone gets stuck on TWRP screen but doesn't actually start TWRP.
I will send 50 bucks through PayPal to first of you guys, who will lead me to the successful repair of my note!
