Android M - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I know how you can get an Android M Developer Preview on the Nexus 7 2013!!!!
Just download the files ( https://android.googlesource.com/device/asus/flo/+/refs/tags/android-m-preview ) and do what you would do to make a regular factory image!! My laptop can't do this stuff so if someone reads this please download it and make a ROM and a factory image.

1. This is the wrong place to post this kind of stuff...
2. It's not even possible to use this because Google hasn't posted the full Android M source so we can only see what has been changed so far.

I don't know where else to post it, because this is the "Development" category and this is basically telling you developing
Also the Android M Developer Preview for Nexus 7 2013 has the same amount of files as the one for the Nexus 6, if not more.

It doesn't matter how many files it has. They haven't released the source code so you can't do anything with it.

I know it doesn't matter how many files, but they do have AOSP out for it. It's worth a shot to try it and see

If the thing I'm asking for can't be done, then can someone do a port? I'd really love to try M. I don't have the money for a Nexus 9 or a Nexus Player, and I just got my TURBO in February so I can't get a new phone for a couple of years

What if it IS the source?
There might be a source somewhere

Then how did the Nexus 7 2012 get it, but it's a port not built from source
Maybe we could use that to help port it to the Nexus 7 2013
Here's the port for the 2012 Nexus 7.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7/general/rom-t3122158

I've already seen the Android M for the 2012. XD

Good for you! So have I, its called YouTube and its littered with bugs. Basically unusable.

I heard that the WiFi doesn't work, and its just to see Android M!

So you want someone to work hard (very hard) to try and port a broken rom just so you can see m? Yeah we are going to line up to do it for you. Lol. Might be time for you to learn some basic Android development and porting.

Its been time for that. XD

[Q] Windows Phone 7 ROM???

Hey, man i am on a posting ROLL this week , but hey im in the rom creator mood, i was wondering if the community would be interested in a windows phone 7 rom? I am also making other ROMs (Spark Sensation and Touch Sensation, both BETA) and figured what the heck why not try! So, all comments and questions are welcome! Thanks in advance!
(Edit: June 11, 2011)
Major issue on developement! My PC has a horrible virus and ate through my system, therefore, developement is haulted, I apologize for the inconvienience!
like a real windows phone 7 rom or just themed? a real one would be great haha
Standalone
Standalone ROM dude, with the zune like player, contacts, UI, etc. I am going to try an make it as Windows-Phone-7-ish as possible!!! Im going to call it Android's Window 7.1 ! and as i make major updates it will go up to 7.2 , 7.3, etc.! but thanks for your input! really needed it!
that, good sir, would be EPIC!
Even if people didn't want it... I'd say why not!
Do it for science!
...
But people do want it.
...So do it anyways!
Would be cool to have it launched from an sdcard, the way windows mobile devices could lauch Android. Although dual boot with flashed to /system WP7 would be also great.
I know there's a way to install Ubuntu or other Arm Linux on Android phone, but unfortunately it didn't work on mine
Would really help my wife out after she came to Android from using Windows Mobile for a loooong time.
Great, workin on it now and open to all who want to try! Also I am putting up a website soon (its already up but there is pretty much nothin on it - bfgdevelopers.webs.com) the only thing I have to do is find a way to sign it (tried zipsigner 2 and signapktic from the market but the rom won't flash after signing (shakin my head) ) so be looking for it on here and on the site! Thx for the support guys

I'm actually pretty stoked to see how this turns out! I kinda didn't think it was possible, haha.
I would use it... that would be sick, props to u if u make it work
I'd try it out if you got it to work. Now, are you talking about a version of Windows Phone 7 ported to the Slide? Or just android with a windows phone 7 skin?
i would def be down to try it. sounds really neat. i use launcher7 occasionally but it tends to get laggy. also, one thing i dont like about wp7 launchers in general is they tend to use list view for the app drawer which is super annoying when you have 30 or more apps.

[VMWare] Android AOSP/ROM Developer Environment

Dear community,
I made a AOSP developer environment for VMWare Workstation 8 or latest VMWare Player (free).
You can easily compile AOSP ROMs without having to set the whole thing up.
You can use this VMWare image as a base to build AOSP ROMs. Imade it for those having trouble getting it to work or maybe if you don't have time to set it up properly. Well if you are downloading this you might have a good reason!
This kit is Google Nexus ready! You can easily compile a AOSP ROM without knowing a line to code.
This VMWare image is:
- ICS ready
- Gingerbread ready
- Fully updated
- Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
- Eclipse SDK + ADT
- Android Kitchen
- Froyo and lower is not supported.
PASSWORD: root
Download link:
Part 1 - Stable v1
Part 2 - Stable v1
Part 3 - Stable v1
Image is extracted, where do I start?
Continue from this link
Donation
Donations are always welcome!
Really really really thanks to you
Great idea. Only one issue.
Any chance we can get some other mirrors?
Oh come on, you asking for donations for this? you looking to buy a nexus and need help?
"Compile a rom without knowing a line of code?" Things can get messy with building you know.
How about informing people what branch is the repo tracking, or what commits will they have to get to sucessfully build..like oprofile (if not on master branch), gtest, slang..not to speak how to use gerrit or git..
It's great you spent time putting all this together, uploading it.. but there's really more to it than just linking to source.android.com.
Also, one last thing, why did you pull gingerbread tree when this is a sub forum/thread for galaxy nexus, which is ICS native?
FYI, Google says that to build AOSP in a VM, at least 16GB of RAM is recommended.

Going to try this method, op thanks for this do I need all three links? or is that three mirrors?
Huge thanks, will definitely help lots of people get started in ROM development.

On your work machine, are you doing the build on the bare metal or in a VM?
I've kind of suspected that Google may be overstating things a bit when they said 16GB minimum for a VM, but never had a chance to test it out myself...
Can you please upload to Megaupload or Multiupload please??
It's not hard to set up an environment....a quick google will give you about 5 commands that you can run and you're ready to start syncing with the AOSP repository. And tbh, I personally prefer VirtualBox over VMWare.

I assigned 4GB and 8 cores to my virtual machine and it was done in less than half an hour on a 2630QM
More mirrors are coming. I am currently working on making the VMWare image smaller in general!
I will possibly take out most applications which are not related to development. I might also take out libreoffice and other big softwares as most of you can install libreoffice etc on your host machine.
I promise I will make everyone happy here! But understand why it's taking so long. I am currently having exams in university. You have to understand that comes first!

This would be useful if you didn't have to wait 12 hours (literally) to download it. Can't donate or download when 12 hours is the price tag. It's too much time. Get the files up on a faster file share and I'll download and donate for sure. It's a great idea and I appreciate it, but 33k a second xfers isn't going to cut it for me

No, I build it on my machine with 4GB of ram (and no swap due to an error ). Haven't tried it in VMware or Virtualbox though, but you don't need 16 GB of ram.

the 2.4.0 does work but due to ICS there are issues thats why I wanted the 2.4.2 release which has been updated on DEC 27th to support ICS ... but as the market is limited to SGS2, Tab and Note I cant fetch it on the Nexus ...
*bump* c'mon guys dont let me down on this one ... really need it ...
really? no one able to quickly fetch, backup and upload it? tried almost everything possible, editing build.prop to get recognized as a SGS2 on the market, android emulator patching and stuff ... unfortunately all attempts did fail ...
so if anyone would be so kind it would be highly appreciated

Considering building Rom for X9067 Find 7 QHD

Hello everyone, I haven't compiled a Rom from source before, but I have spent like 5 hours researching and watching videos and going through the CM wiki, now I feel pretty confident in trying it.
I have a Find 7 QHD X9076, I will start working on this tomorrow.
I am just wondering if anyone would be interested in testing it?
Also does anyone know where I can get the proprietary blobs from, I could extract them from the current CM builds, but I'm
sure those are for the 7A.
If anyone knows where I could get it from then that would help me a lot.
Let me know your thoughts
PS if this actually works, ill probably consider looking into optimizations and features rather than just a dedicated CM11 build for the X9076
Sounds great! Do you have a X9076 yourself?

I would recommend to test build SlimROM insted. Comming from Galaxy S4 and I think SlimROM was the most stable/best rom.

Yeah, I have a the international QHD version, there isnt a lot of support at the moment so I thought it have a crack at it, also considering a stock rom with performance enhances instead as there is already a CM nightly, but then again thats for the 7a.

I'm not really sure what I'm going to compile yet, I know they already have a nightly, but there are a world of issues for the QHD version as those nightly builds are for the 7a, so I was thinking about building for the QHD instead.

HELP!
Can anyone help me get the proprietary files for the X9076 version? I know I can install CM11 and extract them, but will those files work if I build from SlimRom? or is there another way I can obtain them?
you didn't hear this from me:
github.com/themuppets - CM
github.com/donkeycoyote - Omni
Omni won't work on the QHD Find7 yet, if you decide to try and get it running, you will, at a minimum, have to fix the display panel reset GPIO code.
https://github.com/omnirom/android_...mmit/59223a3e64565bcfa13bfd3b58fc676128d02ca7 - this was only done for the 7a and still needs to be done for the 7, but so far no one has a device to try and fix that stuff up.

I would wait to install any Android 5 rom on anything. Its VERY Buggie on every Nexus device that has it.. So i would assume atleast wait until 5.1 or above is Release and see how it goes. My Nexus just freezes for no reason. other times it gets so slow its nearly not usable ..Yes its on a STOCK Factory image from google.
Been running this one for about 12 hours:

Using the 12/12 update.
no major trouble, only downside so far are no rear camera, and screen cast doesn't find my Roku, not sure if that's a bug or not.
Missing some of the customary CM personalization, but for an early rom, seems pretty stable.

Weird. I keep hearing that but my Nexus 5 is smooth and fast and totally trouble free. I sideloaded the OTA back in November when it was released and haven't had a lick of trouble at all. I'm also totally stock, not rooted, no custom recovery.

I Think its some kind of sleep or cpu throttle Bug.. I can be using it just say on google plus. All of the sudden the screen will freeze . Sometimes go back to lock screen. Only fix is to push power button on and off to toggle the screen a few times then its ok.. It Does seem to Run apps faster But seems the UI Is a bit slow.. I Thought i had a bad flash so i re- downloaded from GOOGLE And fastboot flashed totally stock same outcome.. It Could be my Device who knows. But i have seen others complain as well. Lately i do not use my nexus 7 much anyway. I have a note 10.1 2012 Version .
Other thing I do not like the new drop down notification thing. The two sided one was MUCH Better. I think the old list type settings menu was better as well. Someone needs to remind google we are not Children or icon yuppies.
Anyway i think my comments here are off topic as this is about the note 2. My note 2 is running stock rooted 4.3. I just see no need for custom rom on it at this time...
Thanks for your Opinion. as said maybe its JUST Me..

Thanks for the tip Was just coming to take a crack at that kernel, then I noticed the new rom by Team UB so I decided to give it a go. It's a decent, well rounded rom, and the rear camera works.
That brings my issues down to one, still can't throw screen to Roku, but I can't blame the developers for that.
