[Q] Can I revert back to ND8 or NDC bootloader? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I've been researching this for a couple of days and I'm stuck. I put a custom ROM on my phone and now I want to go to a sammy-based ROM so I can get MHL tv-out to work. I'm using the pacman mod, which I don'tthink is a samsung-based ROM (right?). I was planning on flashing the Wicked S5 Xperience ROM. I think my knox efuse is tripped so I'm thinking I can't? Here's what's currently on my phone:
PAC version: KK RC-3 dev
Android 4.4.4
baseband: L710VPUCMK3
Kernel version 3.4.104-cyanogenmod-g80424e3
[email protected] #1
build number: pac_d2lte-userdebug 4.4.4 KTU84Q
eng.build.20141103.011559 test-keys
SELinux status: EnforcingWHen I put it in download mode I see "Warranty Bit:1" in red
How can I get Wicked S5 on my phone, which requires the ND8 or NDC bootloader on my phone, or any other sammy-based ROM, so MHL will work?
Thanks so much in advance!!

No love? :crying:

Odin ND8 then flash the ROM. The Knox warranty bit is tripped, but will not prevent you from flashing anything, only downgrading your firmware.

Ok, so I flashed ND8 and the HDMI-out (MHL) worked great! Then I flashed "Wicked S5 Xperience", and HDMI doesn't work now. Can I try a different kernel with the Wicked S5 Rom so I can get HDMI to work? What's a good modded de-bloated ROM for this phone with a working HDMI tv-out? I found this thread that appears to have a solution. Should I do as it describes? Thanks!

It should work if you just flash the stock kernel, it's in post #3 of my thread.

Sorry, which thread are you referring to?

[Q] Noob question about un-rooting

So I have an S3 that I had CM11 on and I switched from sprint to ting and need to update the PLR Profiles. I installed what I thought was a Touchwiz ROM (MOAR) and it wouldn't boot. But it removed Clockwork Mod, I'm back to the stock downloader that says "Odin Mode" with a Warranty Bit: 1.
Before I go further and flash a stock ROM (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738533 ) with Odin I wanted to make sure this wouldn't brick (knowing brick anyway) my phone. Everything I read through search contradicts what I read before it. Some say that downgrading (CW11 is KitKat and I'm guessing this is JB or ICS since its from 2012) will brick your phone (Cant seem to find current stock ROMs), some say that flashing stock with "warranty bit: 1" will do it (I can't fix this bit count because phone wont boot), some say that flashing a stock ROM over a custom ROM will brick it. Of course for each rule there is 20 posts saying they are wrong.
TL;DR
Can I flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738533 over a MOAR install on a phone with a warranty bit : 1 condition?
Thanks in advance,
Omega
PS - Thanks to all the Devs, been lurking here for years and using your work since my first Droid.
The tar in that thread is nd8 kitkat 4.4.2 for touchwiz. Once that tar is flashed you CANNOT downgrade bootloader or modem, you can however flash any rom you desire. Again be sure NOT to downgrade bootloader or modem, because doing so will hard brick your phone.

Yes you can flash this tar via odin. It will restore your phone back to factory settings with 4.4.2 touchwiz.
Thank you for the help and quick response! I am about to flash it now. I did have one more dumb question that I thought other people might not know and find this thread in search: Is the N8 the version of the radio software? The bootloader? What does it represent? When I good a 2 or 3 letter word like that, its useless.
Again thank you so much for the quick help.
Edit: Worked like a damned charm. If I could, I'd buy ya a beer. Thanks again.

ND8 is just the build number by Samsung that they settled on as stable. I've seen am explanation of exactly what the letters and number means but basically I think it's just year, month and day but I don't remember precisely.

I'm in the same boat, I've been trying all day to get this to work. None of the Jelly Bean guides seem to work on 4.4.2. I just tried flashing the SuperSu via the recovery with no luck. Hope someone helps out, my Super keeps giving that message.
I install Philz recovery and root from from there and install supersu work better then cf auto root.
Is any downside by rooting this way?

No.
And there are at least 4-5 rooted TouchWiz 4.4.2 stock-based ROMs including @CNexus' completely stock but rooted in the development (non-original) section.

You're welcome. Nope, nothing to worry about since you were already on stock 4.4.2 and using latest Philz. Just flash any of the custom or completely stock (but rooted) ROMs you want.

Nd8 msl?

Hi guys sorry to make a thread for this but how do you get the msl off a sprint gs3 running Nd8 4.4.2? I've tried searching it but can only find methods for up to 4.3. Can someone give me a link or point me in the right direction please!?

You can't get your MSL without being rooted... Unless you get it from Sprint, lol good luck with that.

If you flash my ROM it has MSL check removed... Last thing I can think of. It just completely skips over it. Or I can just give you the hiddenmenu.apk and you can push it to system/app.

Look in Chad's stock ROM, it's boot.img. Should be right under the system folder when you open the zip.

I got the boot img like you said and replaced the old one in a nandroid back up. Unchecked md5 verification and restored the back up but wifi wouldn't work. Any way I can make it flashable?
Maybe use the old nd8 stock kernel zip and replace the file with the nj2 kernel and rezip it?
Thanks in advanced

Using ktoonz 5/13/14 version . I found the new stock kernel actually ran better longer battery and better benchmarks. Even when I set K tweaker too sio and adaptive, undervolted amd min 81mhz.
Thw new stock kernel really is sweet.
I'll try and stick it in the old nd8 zip file.

I did get the kernel in a flashable zip. But it breaks wifi somehow. I'm trying to figure it out now

Thanks so much you have been a real trooper for all of us here Ryan.
Nd8 deodexed Rooted and modded
I want to say i flashed the stock kernel zip you gave me worked like a charm.
I can tell immediately the difference in responsiveness and battery life and faster charging than having fast charge enabled on the custom kernel.
The new stock kernel is the shzit.
You have to try it to believe it. I froze K tweaker and used rom toolbox to make the SD buffer up to 2048. That's all
I find anything higher than 2048 makes the phone slower in some aspects.
Just wanted to let you know and say thanks again

Is rooting that simple?

So I am about to load the ND8 stock tar over my MD4 rom (because I want to ultimately load the latest CM11)... but I am confused.
One of the posts here seems to loosly suggest that after loading the samsung stock tar of MD8, I can simply follow up with ODIN of TWRP. From there I can then load any rooted rom and have root?
Is this right? Seems that in the past, one needed root before installing a recovery.

Yes, but I highly recommend Philz Recovery over TWRP, it has zero problems with TouchWiz and AOSP, TWRP seems to have problems with TouchWiz. Philz also has a root option in the recovery so you can just root your stock ROM and download SuperSU from the Play Store and done.

Then just run it through Odin (I suggest you uncheck Auto Reboot and wait until it says PASS and then pull the battery and go into Recovery, go to Philz settings and there will be a ReRoot option. Then reboot and download SuperSU from the Play Store, and you have root).
