Root 4.4.2 official rom beside CF-Auto-Root. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi all.
I was trying to root my stock 4.4.2 rom on Sprint sph-l710 phone with CF-Auto-Root with Odin. Root Check indicate no root propertly After device reboot and Odin indicated Pass. And SuperSu show "Unfortunately SuperSu has stopped every when try to run superSu.
Are there anyway root stock 4.4.2 rom beside CF-Auto-Root?
May a flash able rooted stock 4.4.2 rom??

I'm in the same boat, I've been trying all day to get this to work. None of the Jelly Bean guides seem to work on 4.4.2. I just tried flashing the SuperSu via the recovery with no luck. Hope someone helps out, my Super keeps giving that message.

I install Philz recovery and root from from there and install supersu work better then cf auto root.
Is any downside by rooting this way?

No.
And there are at least 4-5 rooted TouchWiz 4.4.2 stock-based ROMs including @CNexus' completely stock but rooted in the development (non-original) section.

You're welcome. Nope, nothing to worry about since you were already on stock 4.4.2 and using latest Philz. Just flash any of the custom or completely stock (but rooted) ROMs you want.

You may have to wipe factory reset, wipe system then reflash rom, if you want you can nandroid as a backup, TiBu prolly won't work without root.

Try the flashable Superuser app from Koushik and if it does work, then update SuperSu.

Once you have root open SuperSU in your phone and as in the picture

Have you already flashed a custom kernel since
you upgraded to the official 4.3 Jellybean rom?
If not, @jovy23 's stock-modified kernel might fix the root issue
if you are on the 100% stock kernel right now.
Here is the download link for the stock-modified 4.3 M919 kernel:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23252070760972765
Before you flash this kernel it would be best if you odin flashed
cf-autoroot but un-tick the "auto reboot" option in odin before flashing.
After it's flashed remove usb cable & power down the phone using the
power button then power the phone on into recovery.
Then in recovery flash @jovy23 's kernel and all should be good.
Good luck!

[Q] Most current stock ROM?

I'm trying to upgrade from an older version of MOAR to the most current stock ROM so I can get rid of the update notification. I have already made the mistake of accepting the OTA update that had Knox in it and subsequently tripped the Knox bit, so I'm wanting to be careful about what I do to ensure I don't brick the phone. I have downloaded the stock ND8 ROM and attempted to Odin it in, but the update failed, which I'm assuming is a result of Knox for some reason or another. The question is, is ND8 the most current ROM? If not, what is the most current stock ROM so I can get that to work with, and if so, how can I install this with Knox in place?

ND8 is the latest for Sprint http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738533 NDC is the latest for Boost/Virgin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2774333
Knox will not prevent you from Odining anything. If you try to Odin any stock ROM older than what the version of your bootloader is, the phone will brick, but you can Odin the stock ND8 tar all you want. You may or may not know this, but be sure to unzip what you downloaded because the tar file is inside.
You can also (separately) Odin recoveries like the very latest Philz Touch Recovery tar.md5, and which is the only one known to work 100% under TouchWiz 4.4.2 on the SPH-L710.

I did unzip the download to get at the tar.md5 inside. That's what's failing to work with Odin. What is the most current version of Odin? I've been working with 3.04, but I'm not sure if that will work with the newer ROMs, though this has never been an issue in the past, so I doubt this is the problem.

FYI, I prefer (and successfully use with ND8) v3.07 because for some reason it allows me to uncheck the auto reboot checkbox after loading the tar, but with v3.09 it stayed grayed out. I didn't investigate if that's configurable via the ini file.
Another thought. With just one other person the problem was what they used to unzip it. What did you use? Whichever it was, try something else like 7-zip, or 7-archiver on the phone.

[Q] Can't receive sms after flashing stock

Hello everyone,
So ill start out telling you my long journey through the numerous roms I've flashed.
First flashed cm11 4.4.2, then to 4.4.3. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Next flashed liquid smooth 4.4.4, nothing else was wrong until I noticed my calls took
a while to connect. Then I got multiple and duplicate sms messages all at once that were usually late.
So I tried to restore my first cm11 backup, then I started to lose all texting ability. So I tried to revert back to
stock and unroot. Success
Now everything works fine (calls, data, sending sms etc.) But I still can't receive any text messages.
I am running the stock 4.4.2 Rom from Seminole with no root access. I've contacted sprint and gone
through all of those hoops to no avail. Is there a way to fix this? I would greatly appreciate any help..
Thanks

[Q] Help rootin my spring sgs3 4.4.2

I went through all these steps with no success at rooting:
1. Turned on developer mode.
2. enabled usb debugging
3. booted into download mode (Vol down/home/power).
4. started odin 3.0.7
5. left autoreboot and reset time checked.
6. pressed "bin" and selected the "CF-Auto-Root-d2spr-d2spr-sphl710.tar.md5" file
7. clicked start and let it reboot.
I've also tried unchecking autoreboot and after odin was finished, pulled out the battery and rebooted manually. Why can I not get root access? Please help!
CF-AutoRoot has only worked on TouchWiz 4.4.2 for a few people. Most of us either flash the latest SuperSU.zip downloaded directly from Chainfire's website or use Philz Touch Recovery's re-root option in the Advanced menu I think.
Personally, after CF-AutoRoot failed for me I had to re-Odin either (I forget which) the stock ROM and Philz, or just Philz.

Just flash an already rooted custom ROM like what's in my signature, or if you want completely stock but rooted, you can find Cnexus' Odexed (like original stock is) and Deodexed (more easily modded/themable) copies of ND8 in the development (non-original) section.

I'm just looking to be able to tether my phone for internet access to my laptop. My understanding is that root will give me this access (on sprint obviously). Not sure I want to do a custom rom as I don't really fool with y phone in that way much. Gonna try the deodexed and see how well that works.
Can I flash the rooted deodexed with philz recovery? I just tried it and my phone still doesn't show as rooted. I went into recovery and selected install zip/choose zip from /sdcard and selected the deodexed zip. What gives?
I think the de-odexed worked cause now I have root access. Thanks for all the help!
You're welcome!
Did you flash the Deodexed tethering mod (also in the same section as the rooted stock you used)? It's great having unlimited free tethering.

Is rooting that simple?

So I am about to load the ND8 stock tar over my MD4 rom (because I want to ultimately load the latest CM11)... but I am confused.
One of the posts here seems to loosly suggest that after loading the samsung stock tar of MD8, I can simply follow up with ODIN of TWRP. From there I can then load any rooted rom and have root?
Is this right? Seems that in the past, one needed root before installing a recovery.

Yes, but I highly recommend Philz Recovery over TWRP, it has zero problems with TouchWiz and AOSP, TWRP seems to have problems with TouchWiz. Philz also has a root option in the recovery so you can just root your stock ROM and download SuperSU from the Play Store and done.

Thanks again for your reply. I am trying to find the right "PhilZ" but it seems there is a d2spr and a d2lte version. The spr versions are older. Which one should I go with?

Then just run it through Odin (I suggest you uncheck Auto Reboot and wait until it says PASS and then pull the battery and go into Recovery, go to Philz settings and there will be a ReRoot option. Then reboot and download SuperSU from the Play Store, and you have root).
