[Q] Modified Flash APK

I'm trying to install the modified flash player to get Hulu working. The uninstall options are grayed out via the phones application manager. I don't have root explorer or a similar app to uninstall the current version so I was hoping to use the Terminal Emulator I have installed.
can somebody provide the ADB commands to uninstall the Flash Player using the Terminal Emulator app i have on my phone?

i was having a problem also until i uninstall it using titanium backup. than rebooted the phone than install the fixed flash for hulu to work. Give it a try

Can't flash AmonRA?

Hey guys I'm trying to flash Amon RA v 1.8 on my phone, put it in the root of my sdcard opened terminal emulator and typed su, but it said 'permission denied'
my phone is rooted, i have superuser permissions under my apps, i was able to use set cpu, i dont understand whats wrong, suggestions?

Sounds like you may be rooted but not Nand unlocked. You should give more information as to what method you did to achieve root, what hboot, etc...

one person told me the same and that i needed the PC36IMG zip file and that i would be good. my method of rooting was installing the hboot drivers and then using unrevoked.
i booted in recovery with clockwork and did a NAND backup assuming then that NAND was unlocked lol but i guess not so i tried doing some research into the NAND unlocking and i have no idea what this adb shell thing is, is this the problem though with flashing amon RA?

Try giving terminal emulator su permission. Tap supermissions apk and enable terminal emulator.

In terminal emulator settings check start as root, then restart it, and then when supermissions prompts you give terminal emulator root privilege.

there's no setting like that in terminal emulator, i do have another app called 'better terminal emulator', checked those settings and it had the setting you were talking about, but even when i checked that, superuser permissions didnt ask me to allow/deny better terminal emulator

Within Better terminal emulator, try the su command.
I used better terminal emulator (bte) to install Amon_Ra's 1.8 and it is in the super user permission white list.

[Q] Question about Flashing

Hi, I've got a Motorola Defy in Argentina (Carrier: Personal, means telecom). Well, I want to Root it, I've tryied z4mod, the ADB Method, 1 click, etc, and I still got the message "The application xxxx needs root user permissions", btw I have the Root (#) console in "adb shell", but I can't move files to /system/media (whit "AndExplorer" from mobile). Do I have to mount the FS there??
I've got the "Superuser" app working, and some applications whit "Root permissions" (because I've checked Remember my answer on the Popup when the app needs root privilegies)
Im a little bit confused because the version is not similar that you use here.
Version Number: JORLA_U3_6.14.7
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
So, I want to root it, and maybe upgrade to Froyo, but that questions make me scared (specially if i brick it).
What should I do?
PS: I've made a "Backup" with SystemRecovery app. This backup will work if I want to back my firmware to the stock one? (forgive the apps, I don't care).

Nobody can guarantee your backup will work, but it's a risk you'll have to take if you want to hack.
According to my search, your carrier uses UMTS 850 / 1900. This means you could have a different baseband firmware than the T-Mobile users here, and definitely different from the European users. The problem is, the only SBF files available are for European 900/2100.
So first things first, take a nandroid backup from the custom bootstrap recovery if you can get that working. Back up those files somewhere safe.
Read about the "3g fix". There is a folder containing the baseband firmware files, and you'll want to back those up in case you lose 3g on a custom ROM.
If your phone becomes unbootable, you'll have to flash an SBF to boot it, *then* root it again, install custom recovery again, and finally restore the nandroid backup.

Ok, thanks for the info. I've tryied to do a "nandroid backup" with the upgrade.zip stuff, but it just restarts and do nothing. I can't see any changes on my SDcard.
BTW, how I can run a .apk as root? (I want the AndExplorer to be root so I can copy some stuff to /system). I've got actually a root (#) terminal in adb shell and in Terminal emulator (via command su).

How are you attempting to do this backup?
You need to download the bootstrap custom recovery, and use that to boot into the recovery menu. From there you go into backup/restore.
If you have successfully rooted your phone, then all apps have the opportunity to run as root. They should be able to make the request via Superuser Permissions, which would then prompt you.

Ok, but the bootstrap custom recovery is for 2.51 or similar firmware numbers, I've got 6.14. So, I really didn't test because I don't have experience with this things and I don't want to screw up all.
I tell you, for example, the Terminal Emulator runs on root when I run "su": Android requested Superuser permissions to me, and I ticked remember option, and now I can run "su" without the Superuser request.
BTW, I've got a root shell on adb (when I reboot the phone, I loose the root ). That means that is rooted??? (Got it using RATC)

Well, either it's compatible or it's not. If the bootstrap makes your phone unbootable... I guess you'll have to try for a warranty claim

Hahaha, I like to flash things and understand how it works, but in this case, I would prefer not screw nothing. Btw, I've buyed it on 15/jan.
So, for my other question the Terminal Emulator runs on root when I run "su": Android requested Superuser permissions to me, and I ticked remember option, and now I can run "su" without the Superuser request.
But when I restart the phone, I loose the # on "adb shell".
BTW, I've found the open source code of an earlier version of my defy on
opensource.motorola.com/sf/go/projects.moto_defy/frs.defy_latam
Anyone knowns how to compile this? I've got Debian lenny, Ubuntu 10.04, Ubuntu 10.10.

Compiling a ROM yourself won't help if you can't sign it with Motorola's key. Yay locked bootloader...

Hi, yes you can contact me via PM & I will send all the stuff that I've got. But I only get the rootshell via RageAgainstTheCage. When you reboot it you loose it, but you can use "su" or "rootshell" to get it again.

I have a Motorola Defy like yours , (in Argentina - Carrier: Personal ).
I have rooted successfully using z4root 1.3.0 , that you can get from this post (look attached file at end ):

With z4root 1.3 you have the option of get root temporarily or permanent. The first one doesn't works for me ( no errors but no root ). The permanent root yes, works like a charm .

Hi, It seems that is not working for me... I've touched the permanent option, it restarted and the z4root says that is rooted, but I haven't the root console in adb shell, neither the apps run as root.
Edit: If I try to run "su" on the non-root console($) it says "Permission denied". But, running "rootshell" from RATC, it gives me a root shell.

A little info on Android, Terminal Emulator, and Busybox
I'm very new to Android. I just got my first device a few months ago(my A100). I have used linux and other forms of unix off and on for over a decade though so I do have some applicable knowlege.
After writing Flashex I have noticed allot of people with miss configured environment variables for Terminal Emulator. The defaults in Terminal Emulator are NOT configured to use the right Busybox. This can make doing ALLOT of the stuff around here seem allot more complex then it is.
How to improve the way Terminal Emulator works

(Note: I'm going under the assumption that Busybox is located in /system/xbin. It should be normaly, though it doesn't matter for this as long as you know the correct location and can put in place of /system/xbin in these directions)
1) Launch Terminal Emulator.
2) Look in the Menu in the upper right hand corver and select "Preferences".
3) Scroll down to the "Shell" section of "Preferences".
4) Select "Command Line" within the "Shell" section of "Preferences" and change it to the following;
/system/xbin/sh -u
Then Select "OK".
5) Select "Initial Command" within the "Shell" section of "Preferences" and change it to the following;
export PATH=/system/xbin:$PATH
Then Select "OK"
6) Now you will probably want to scroll up and change the color of the terminal background and text in the "Text" section of "Preferences".
Congratulations! You should now have a Bourne Shell(sh) with, color coded file types, TAB auto complete, and the correct Busybox version in the Terminal Emulator! YAY!

You may be getting the permission denied error if you used This root method because it used a non standard install of Busybox to do the job.
It can be updated from what I understand by just downloading the J Rummy Busybox installer from play.google.com and reinstalling Busybox. Also as asked above if you don't have busybox installed you wont be able to point TE to it.
Hope that resolves the issue

I keep getting the same error with terminal emulator and script manager:
Unable to confirm location of BusyBox, please make sure you have busybox installed
Looked in /system/xbin if you have it installed in another location, you can just edit the path at the top of the script

After following the steps you mentioned and saved it and closed Terminal emulator and when trying to reopen it it does not open and it is a pre-installed app in my custom ROM so i went to root explorer and deleted it and while am trying to reinstall it from Play store play store does not download any app !!!!! it opens normally it navigates normally and i can press install and accept to the pop up message but keeps making like it is installing while nothing installed !!!
Device : Motorola XT925
ROM : Beanstalk 1009
Android : 4.3.1
Bootloader : Unlocked
BusyBox : BusyBox X+
Please Please Help Me

I Tried the following :

2. Reinstall google play Version 4.4.21
But problem still exist am really upset guys please help me :S

simply go the app settings and clear data. The exact thing is happening to me as soon as i change the path under shell. crashes and when i try opening says . terminal running and immediately closes

Sorry only A100 support allowed here.
But really, eyelash your rom if anything like that happens. Just flash the rom+gapps first and should fix it otherwise factory reset.

Sideload Towelroot?

idea popped into my head just now, has anyone tried it? i dont know exactly how the exploit works or anything but would it be worth trying?

Am I missing something here? adb install tr.apk is how people have rooted.. aka as sideloading.

Sideloading is super easy after installing Terminal Emulator and a web browser.
You can use the terminal app to perform all of the same ADB functions as you would from a PC,but you have to use the PC once more to install the Terminal app and a browser.
Somebody needs to pin that original topic that tells you how to do it,as it helped me greatly on sideloading any of the apps I wanted in mere seconds by downloading the apk through a sideloaded browser and installing it via ADB function on the sideloaded Terminal App.
