idea popped into my head just now, has anyone tried it? i dont know exactly how the exploit works or anything but would it be worth trying?
Try it and report back
Am I missing something here? adb install tr.apk is how people have rooted.. aka as sideloading.
Lol, how do you think everyone's been rooting?!?

Sideloading is super easy after installing Terminal Emulator and a web browser.
You can use the terminal app to perform all of the same ADB functions as you would from a PC,but you have to use the PC once more to install the Terminal app and a browser.
Somebody needs to pin that original topic that tells you how to do it,as it helped me greatly on sideloading any of the apps I wanted in mere seconds by downloading the apk through a sideloaded browser and installing it via ADB function on the sideloaded Terminal App.

I'm trying to install the modified flash player to get Hulu working. The uninstall options are grayed out via the phones application manager. I don't have root explorer or a similar app to uninstall the current version so I was hoping to use the Terminal Emulator I have installed.
can somebody provide the ADB commands to uninstall the Flash Player using the Terminal Emulator app i have on my phone?
thanks in advance.

i was having a problem also until i uninstall it using titanium backup. than rebooted the phone than install the fixed flash for hulu to work. Give it a try
Sorry for making you read this if I made a nooby mistake.
So I rooted my Slide, and flashed the Eng-release to it. When I use ROM Manager to install the CM6 onto it, I can't get past touching reboot into Clockwork Recovery. I already flashed the Clowckwork into it (I think; you just need to push the Flash ClockworkMod Recovery button right?), but when I push the reboot into it button, nothing happens.
I tried the Fix Permissions button, and it says "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!" That means that the app doesn't have root access, right? How do I give the app root access? I tried two superuser apps, one from the Market and one from this website, the one with a Ninja. When I choose preferences on the superuser app, it just hangs until I get the Force Close error.
How do I grant my app root access? I know I rooted my Slide because when I connect it to my phone and use adb shell, the pound sing comes up.
What method did you use? Did the phone have the 1.35 OTA Update?
Try this: download terminal emulator from the market, its free.
Turn on: you will see a "$" symbol type "su" (w/o qoutes)
if you see this "#" you are rooted..
Im sure there are easier other ways to check, thats just what I do. I know you didn't install the rom, so don't worry about that yet.
Chances are you arent rooted, I dont what adb shell would say, since I didnt have to use it directly, I just used my windows cmd prompt.
After looking at the other post a few below this one about the exact same problem that I had, I did what he did and copied the update.zip to my phone and booted into recovery. Thanks for the help, though I'm ok now.
Btw, I did have the terminal, and it did have the # sing

Ive had a rooted hero for about a year now, but ive been deployed since the evo came out and now i finally got one and havnt decided on root yet. With pda net, launcher pro, and the fps issue fixed, im not sure i care to root at the moment.
Anyways too the point: Is there still no way to push apps to non rooted phone instead of installing them?
i saw some " Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine" and was wondering whats the deal with it. Is it the same as enabling 3rd party apps from the setting menu, or is a way to force/push apps to phone? Or is it just a way for AT&T customers to install third party apps?
if there is no way around it, i guess ill be rooting in the near future. Sorry if its a noob type question. Im just new to the "sideload" term
thanks guys
Just out of curiosity, why is it so important to be able to push apps with adb? Why not just install them with Astro or ES?
easy. not sure if this first step is neccesary, but go to settings apps and check the off market apps box. then, cd to your tools folder, and type "adb install (app name).apk" (without quotes) hope this helps. pm me if you need help setting up adb

not really for 3rd party apps as i know how to do all that, but more so for things like installing AOSP programs, programs ported from other phones etc. Programs that would normally give you the can not install error when using astro etc.

thanks ill give it a try, i thought you had to be rooted for this.
As far as i know, you don't need to be rooted to use this command. The sdk was origonally developed for development purposes, not rooting. So it makes sense that you would be able to use it (or most of it) while un rooted.
Did it work?
i dont hink the AOSP items i wanted to push are going to work, but i did however try the adb install and it worked great. Thanks for the assist.

Does anyone know how to fix this stuttering the OUYA does when playing video stream?
I have the latest firmware and "XBMC for OUYA" but video streams are still doing this for a while when starting to play and then randomly during the movie. Thanks for any reply.
The problem is not with xbmc but a firmware bug made in the 24th July update.
There is no fix unless you are rooted.
It has been raised with the ouya team but it doesn't seem a priority to them.
If rooted how i can fix that problem?

Please post results if it works for you.
Thanks guys! This appears to have worked. And if it did it appears to have worked like a charm.
Here's what I did:
I've been using apk extractor to install apks on to my rooted ouya.
I used a APK extractor to extract Android terminal emulator and put it on my network share with my phone.
Then using es file explorer on my new ouya grabbed the Android terminal emulator apk off my network share and installed it.
I open the emulator on my ouya and gave superuser access then type "su" and enter key.
Then the command:
echo 32768 > /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes
I have been using the YouTube plugin on XBMC with the highest video quality setting to test.
Thanks again for the reply and I hope this help somebody out.

thanks for the instructions made it very easy to do. I can finally watch video addons from xbmc and transfer files through ftp without the ouya locking up.
I can't seem to get this done. I tried using Android Terminal Emulator on OUYA but I can't type anything. I also use a command window and use adb to sideload apps. Can I use this method to enter this command into OUYA? I tried but it says The system cannot find the path specified. How do I do this?
sorry for the late reply but for anyone else coming across this thread

you type the command into terminal emulator that is running on your ouya
I keep a plain USB cord keyboard handy, i turn off the ouya, then unplug it from the back, plug in the keyboard, then fire everything back up.
when it's back on launch terminal emulator or install if you haven't and you should be able to use the keyboard you have plugged in to type the command into terminal emulator.
Does this still work?

So I am looking to buy an amazon fire tv. I talked to someone at customer service and they said it will come with the new update so I won't be able to root it. I want to know if there is a way to install apk's without root? Thank you.

Ya you can install apps all the time but if the app requires root no go !
Click here for thread with more info
The best way is if you have something like a Logitech K400r Keyboard and you install the following through ADB sideloading:
Terminal Emulator (allows ADB on Fire TV itself)
Opera Browser (access to apk files and much, much more)
ES File Explorer (management and many other useful things like finding out the directory and name to type in Terminal for ADB installs)
And finally,App Stores like 1Mobile and Appchina (although Chinese only,so it is hard to navigate)
You can't directly install the apps downloaded by 1mobile,but you can rename them to short names for the ADB install command to install them that way.
I can't remember the kill and start commands before Terminal Emulator works since I've had root priviliges for so long.
I think it was "ADB Connect localhost" for the first step though.
