Is there a way to set auto brightness a little higher?

It does has the adaptive brightness feature (move the brightness slider while auto brightness is on) which I find too dim even at high settings. I've been using the Lux Lite app. You can link screen the screen brightness to readings on the ambient light sensor. It has bee working well for me so far.

You can try LUX from Google play.

Both lux and lux lite work well.
My G4 screen brightness does not change when auto is selected and you slide the slider up and down.
Contrary to my nexus 6 in which sliding the brightness slider while auto brightness is active does work. This is called adaptive brightness on the nexus 6 and one thing I really miss on the G4

Tmo. Really yours does? That's kind of crappy if that's the case that tmo would remove a feature like that  Awesome BTW that yours does I'm jealous!

Don't be too jealous. It's too dim indoors even with the slider all the way up. It doesn't make a drastic change either. It works much better on the Nexus 6.

Ahh okay gotcha. Yeah I've really been enjoying lux it works very good

Auto brightness works well in bright sunlight and medium lit situations (i.e. daylight indoors) but is way too low at night on my unlocked EU version (H815). I currently work around it by setting it to 26% or so and switching auto-brightness off at night.
That's the kind of issue I would expect to get fixed by a fw update in the near future. I might try Lux as well if it bugs me too much.

Try lux lite it works excellent and you can just set it to exactly what you described as your issue... Night time low ambient light. It's funny, I've set lux to put brightness at 26% at night in low light just as you do manually. It's perfect brightness imo.

I noticed that when you're watching a video the screen dims further.. If you acces the quick settings menu the brightness is way brighter and your eyes burst out in flames..

I've noticed that when the ambient light is very low, the adaptive auto brightness stops working altogether, so unless you disable auto brightness and set it manually as someone already mentioned they do, then it will be too dark whatever you set the slider to. If you then make say your TV give off a bit more light (make it full brightness on a white screen for instance) and then you'll see the adaptive slider start working again, but as soon as the ambient light dims again, it stops working..
I can't see why the adaptive brightness would be disabled when the ambient light is low, it should still work, so they should address this in a later fw release as was mentioned as well.

I agree that in low light situations the auto brightness sets the screen too dim. Doubt there'll ever be a "fix". It's been this way since the g3 from my exp. And although we mostly all agree, there are tons of ppl that I know who prefer it this dim, or even dimmer. Some people just have really sensitive eyes I guess and I just can't imagine lg considering this a " bug" rather than a "feature". But I am personally with y'all on this subject of the g4.
I'm using tmo version and u cannot adjust the slider when set to auto. U can set auto off, then increase the slider, and reactivate the auto brightness, but to no prevail. So att users have it better than us even if it makes a subtle difference. Sigh

Be careful with 3rd party brightness apps i had lux and it disabled some buttons.

stock auto brightness too low

Hello Guys,
I'm wondering what may be the reason for having too low auto brightness in SGN2. When I switch to manual there is no problem but the automatic mode is too dark in my test. Any ideas to fix that?
It actually manages automatically according to the surrounding light so it can vary its brightness
Yup, mine on auto and it keeps on changing the brightness accordingly.
Dear try iy while in a good light source and it will change according... with less light it goes to dark
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
As far as I know you can trim the auto brightness under settings so that the screen gets brighter or less bright under the same surrounding brightness condition

this is smart because even with automatic brightness you can set it minimum and max.
Guys, just a small tip, there's a setting in the power saving settings which says something like arrange the light and color of the screen by analyzing in accordance with external light etc. That setting is enabled by default, disable it and compare the results. I have done the same and now have a much better display.

just set the slider to maximum at auto brightness
I'm happy with the auto light levels with the exception of the browser. It's dark. As soon as I enter it the screen darkens and when I leave it (or open something else, like the bookmarks for example) for a fraction of a second it brightens up before it switches to the next app/screen.
Anyone else experiencing this?

[Mod] Increase Max Brightness

WARNING:
Using this mod may decrease battery life, decrease screen life and/or quality, cause overheating, cause your phone to blow up or cause other damage to your phone. Use at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage this mod causes to your phone.
This Mod will increase the max brightness of your phone by about 10%.
Note:
Auto Brightness must be turned off for this to work.
Root is required for this Mod.
Instructions:
Download and run app attached to this post.
Or. ..
echo 1 > /sys/class/backlight/panel/auto_brightness
If you reboot or enable auto brightness you have to run it again.
The best way to tell if it worked would be to run it when your screen is already at full brightness. You'll see it go a bit brighter.
Tested on T-Mobile Note II, but this may work in many Samsung Galaxy phones.
Seems to have worked, but comparing brightness on one device by eyes is tough. It certainly didn't break anything though!
Is there a way to lower minimum brightness? Cause even at the lowest brightness, its bright as hell

screen filter or root dim work. they place a transparent black overlay on top of the screen and dims everything. works best with oled/amoled screens as the overlay actually lowers the light output where if you were using a traditional led backlight it'll still have the same brightness but the hue of everything would be reduced.

Look for an app called "screen dim"
It lets you take your brightness and contrast down to ZERO.
Caution: can be really hard to see if you do that. I know, I've spent 10 min in a dark closet trying to open the app again after accidentally backing out of the app with the screen all the way down... pm me if you can't find it and I'll get you a copy.

+1 for Galactic. I used this on my old GS2 and loved using the red filter for reading at night. It was less bothersome for my wife and it made me fall asleep easier because it doesn't have any blue wavelengths, which I think I read that it can cause difficulty in sleeping.

iPhone5 is twice as bright as this phone. Nuff said.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using XDA Premium HD app
but I have a Note 2 not an iPhone 5. Personally i think the screen is plenty bright enough. Not trying to troll or nothing, just want to understand better, but i like i said i personally dont see many requests for a brighter screen. how would one benefit from having a screen brighter than the brightest stock setting?

Lower brightness possible?

Good day everyone,
When using my device in low light surroundings, i tend
to experience the brightness as too high, is there any
way of lowering the minimum brightness?
I'm running the note2core std kernel, stock debloated
dlk7 rom (rooted )
I have tried the following with ROM Toolbox pro;
Go to build.prop editor
Found the value "ro.lcd_min_brightness"
Standard value was 20, lowering this number did
nothing for me, i tried 15, 12, 5 and 0..
I have also tried lowering this value whike using
another kernel like stock, redpill and N.E.A.K.
And also not working on stock ROM..
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot

Screen Filter is good, but it doesn't really lower the brightness. It applies a filter which makes the display darker. Any screenshot you take will be darker. But other than that, it's perfect for low light situations
I like this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDEsInB0LmJiYXJhby5uaWdodG1vZGUiXQ..
My vote is for Screen Filter. I have used rt every night and every morning for the last 2 years. Never any problems.
Let's change my question;
Is it hardwarewise possible to lower
the minimum brightness? If so, please share
I wondered this too and I'm surprised that there hasn't been a mod/tweak to allow you to get the brightness as low as possible without the use of apps. I've tried everything from editing build.prop to decompiling framework-res.apk, but nothing to seems to really work.

Nope, lux definitely works by adding a filter in sub-zero mode. Not that this matters except when taking screenshots because as I said before, on an OLED screen this is essentially the same thing. But thanks for the recommendation, lux is a very nice app.

Same here. It lightens up when I get near a light, but if I'm further away, I usually turn it off and keep it at a comfortable level.
this has been mentioned a few times already and I find I'm opposite of you guys. It's too dang bright! you can install lux or velis to control auto brightness to your liking. you can even make some tasker tasks to force certain profiles based on various sscenarios like if your conn2cted to a certain ssid switch to a less aggressive setting or whatever. I think both require the paid versios for the tasker plugins. ive paid for both and like lux better since sub zero settings are easier and it "sleeps" quicker if I want it off.
It's always too dim for me. One of the first things I turn off and just control it manually.
before the mk1 update there was an extra slider in the notifications section that you could use to modify the auto a bit. Sadly that's gone now.

Ah, I noticed that too but hadn't put that down to Light Flow.

Has anyone got the Sleep function to work?
No matter what Light Flow settings I use - at night, the LED continues to light up my room, so I have to leave the phone face-down at the moment...
I've been emailing the developer about it - but he's waiting for his 5X to turn up (as he's also ordered a 6P, he has to wait for that to turn up in the same delivery...)
I have enabled notification light through Settings and am able to generate a white light flash (repeating) when gmail receives. Has anyone noted fingerprint security have any negative impacts on notifications like this (more curiosity than anything)?
Admittedly its been some time since I have had to use lightflow pro; good app, just been awhile so I may be rusty on settings I am betting.

Ah, I noticed that too but hadn't put that down to Light Flow.
I have a GWR, so disabled Ambient Display anyway.

Lightflow is one of my standard apps. Unfortunately, it was draining my battery on the 5x regardless of the settings I had set. Looking forward to an update after the dev can optimize for MM/5X/6P.

Anyone else having an issue with lightflow and mms alerts needing to be cleared manually in the app?
To anyone who has Lightflow pro running well: would you mind posting your settings?
I've tried every combination I can think of: root mode on/off, run every command as root on/off, etc. The best the app can manage is a brief pulse on, then off, then a quick on/off before the LED stays off. Have tried direct mode, too. Tried the Legacy version, but it doesn't cover a lot of apps.
I can't seem to get any consistent results otherwise.
To be honest, I gave up and now use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3244601
[ROM][6.0_r26][5X]★ Pure Nexus Project ★ Layers | Fi | WFC | VoLTE Fix ★[11/21/15]
It includes Notification Light control and works perfectly.. And it's loads quicker than stock. Why buy a Nexus if you ain't gonna custom ROM it ?

Just as a note: I looked at their website, and tried installing the Legacy version without uninstalling the paid version. All apps show. Legacy version works fine.

Yes! I just got the 5x and am settling down with stock Android for a while. Rooted and Xposed. It will be maybe 2-3 days before I start installing custom ROMs! Thanks for the headsup on this particular ROM!

I have only had it for one night but it seemed to work fine for me. I changed the sleep method to "time" (it defaults to NFC or something) and set the "start time" to 10:30pm and the "end time" to 6:00AM. I also have ambient display disabled. I am not sure what GWR is though. Also make sure in each app notification setting you do not have "exclude from sleep mode" checked.
I'm using paid version of LF. For now I'm not rooted.
I noticed behaviour you've already talked about.
1. If I'm using ambient screen I always have notifiction icon "Number of notifications". Can I hide that?
I know I can hide it if I disable app notification, but in that case Light flow don't work anymore ...
2. Is there any solution with messing ambient screen and LW led. After recieved notification ambient lights on few times and completely mess up LF ...
Is Legacy version solving those problems?
Thank you.
edit: I solved problem with legacy.
I have en issue with lighflow legacy that when I set my gmail notification to switch screen on, it won't play the notification sound correctly, the screen will light and notification sound is not completed when email is received, it is like once the screen switch on, the notification sound won't complete till the end. Anyone noticed that? disabling switch screen on, will make the notification sound fine.
I have this problem with a N5x and LightFlow.
It doesnt matter if I do use Lightflow normal or legacy, because on legacy I kept seeing a Lightflow notification and the screen turns on with ambient display continuously due to this :S
