Good day everyone,
When using my device in low light surroundings, i tend
to experience the brightness as too high, is there any
way of lowering the minimum brightness?
I'm running the note2core std kernel, stock debloated
dlk7 rom (rooted )
I have tried the following with ROM Toolbox pro;
Go to build.prop editor
Found the value "ro.lcd_min_brightness"
Standard value was 20, lowering this number did
nothing for me, i tried 15, 12, 5 and 0..
I have also tried lowering this value whike using
another kernel like stock, redpill and N.E.A.K.
And also not working on stock ROM..
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot

You can download an app to darken the screen. There are numerous different ones so try them out and see which you you prefer. Personally I user Screen Filter https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.haxor

Ok thanks i will have a look!
However i would like to know if i can do this manually,
without more programs clogging up my phone..
Thanks in advance

Screen Filter is good, but it doesn't really lower the brightness. It applies a filter which makes the display darker. Any screenshot you take will be darker. But other than that, it's perfect for low light situations
I like this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDEsInB0LmJiYXJhby5uaWdodG1vZGUiXQ..
My vote is for Screen Filter. I have used rt every night and every morning for the last 2 years. Never any problems.
Let's change my question;
Is it hardwarewise possible to lower
the minimum brightness? If so, please share
I wondered this too and I'm surprised that there hasn't been a mod/tweak to allow you to get the brightness as low as possible without the use of apps. I've tried everything from editing build.prop to decompiling framework-res.apk, but nothing to seems to really work.

I think it has more to do with the software than hardware.

But on an OLED display, that's the same as lowering the brightness (although what you said about screenshots still stands)

This is likely done on purpose. Imagine the frustration of going outdoors and your screen was set so dim that your phone is useless until you can see enough to raise the brightness.
People would be angry.

I needed an app for this and bought this:

Very useful app.
+1 for lux, works on hardware level to lower brightness and not by just adding a darkening filter.

Nope, lux definitely works by adding a filter in sub-zero mode. Not that this matters except when taking screenshots because as I said before, on an OLED screen this is essentially the same thing. But thanks for the recommendation, lux is a very nice app.

You could try edit the build. prop and set the minimum brightness level to something like 10. By default its 20. Quickest way I use is the build. prop Editor in rom toolbox.

Hi all,
I just wanted to present you a very simple application,
that shows the barometric pressure in the environment.
It simply reads out the sensor value and also calculates
the approximate altitude based on standart atmospheric
pressure at sea level of 1013.25 hPa and at a standart
temperature of 288.15 K.
Why I made this application, if it was so simple?
There was no such application, that shows the barometric
pressure in a nice way, so there we go:

Works great. My only suggestion is, can you down a little the scale of the barometer?. I mean I'm in Bogota, Colombia (2600 m over the sea level) so my barometer is always down before 960 hPa

Yeh. My rendering is that way by default.

I also have one suggestion. Could you add a relative height? I mean that it is possible to set the current height as a reference and make the difference visible. Then it would be possible to meassure the approximately height in a big building or an elevator.
I've already done this in my own app and it works great. Unfortunately I couldn't find time to improve my app, it's very simple and not so nice as yours .

I doubt the barometer is precise enough to measure the height of a buiding
Thanks, good app.
Improvment : possibility to compute the QNH (sea level pressure) by adding known altitude (inserting altitude in meters, feet or hPa).
Change the graphic to show stormy/fair weather icons for people like me who don't know what a barometer does or how to read one, relatively. Make it fun!

Barometric pressure alone does not reliably predict the weather.

Hello Guys,
I'm wondering what may be the reason for having too low auto brightness in SGN2. When I switch to manual there is no problem but the automatic mode is too dark in my test. Any ideas to fix that?
It actually manages automatically according to the surrounding light so it can vary its brightness
Yup, mine on auto and it keeps on changing the brightness accordingly.
Dear try iy while in a good light source and it will change according... with less light it goes to dark

As far as I know you can trim the auto brightness under settings so that the screen gets brighter or less bright under the same surrounding brightness condition

this is smart because even with automatic brightness you can set it minimum and max.
Guys, just a small tip, there's a setting in the power saving settings which says something like arrange the light and color of the screen by analyzing in accordance with external light etc. That setting is enabled by default, disable it and compare the results. I have done the same and now have a much better display.

just set the slider to maximum at auto brightness
I'm happy with the auto light levels with the exception of the browser. It's dark. As soon as I enter it the screen darkens and when I leave it (or open something else, like the bookmarks for example) for a fraction of a second it brightens up before it switches to the next app/screen.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Correct fix is to turn off POWER SAVING MODE. Try that sir.
WARNING:
Using this mod may decrease battery life, decrease screen life and/or quality, cause overheating, cause your phone to blow up or cause other damage to your phone. Use at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage this mod causes to your phone.
This Mod will increase the max brightness of your phone by about 10%.
Note:
Auto Brightness must be turned off for this to work.
Root is required for this Mod.
Instructions:
Download and run app attached to this post.
Or. ..
echo 1 > /sys/class/backlight/panel/auto_brightness
If you reboot or enable auto brightness you have to run it again.
The best way to tell if it worked would be to run it when your screen is already at full brightness. You'll see it go a bit brighter.
Tested on T-Mobile Note II, but this may work in many Samsung Galaxy phones.
Seems to have worked, but comparing brightness on one device by eyes is tough. It certainly didn't break anything though!
Is there a way to lower minimum brightness? Cause even at the lowest brightness, its bright as hell

screen filter or root dim work. they place a transparent black overlay on top of the screen and dims everything. works best with oled/amoled screens as the overlay actually lowers the light output where if you were using a traditional led backlight it'll still have the same brightness but the hue of everything would be reduced.

Look for an app called "screen dim"
It lets you take your brightness and contrast down to ZERO.
Caution: can be really hard to see if you do that. I know, I've spent 10 min in a dark closet trying to open the app again after accidentally backing out of the app with the screen all the way down... pm me if you can't find it and I'll get you a copy.

+1 for Galactic. I used this on my old GS2 and loved using the red filter for reading at night. It was less bothersome for my wife and it made me fall asleep easier because it doesn't have any blue wavelengths, which I think I read that it can cause difficulty in sleeping.

Maybe thoose values can be better, experiment if you have better values and post here Im using this app for 3 weak for now and it works so nice. Battery time is still great.
Here is how to do this:
-download it from google
-go to Lux settings
-click on Sample Collection
-click on Light reading modes
-select Camera instead of Light sensor
-select Front camera (it's obvious that its better than rear camera for this purpose)
-Now, from main screen of settings, click on Modify Linked Samples
from top, click on Luma (this app uses Lux for sensor readings and Luma for camera readings)
-then you can see app reads ambient light value from camera and displays at top.
Now the app should do its job, but you may want to check other settings to match your preferences.

I also haven't noticed any battery drain. Also you can set sub-zero values during nighttime, which is great if you want to check something and be blinded by brightness.
I would like to say thanks for pointing out this fantastic app which is working very well for me so far!
This is how I have configured the app which works great:
LUMA BRIGHTNESS
1 -20%
100 15%
200 50%
255 100%
This is very conservative brightness setting however it is very readible in every situation and is nice and dark at night and hopefully should be very energy efficient!
All the other default settings work fine, I think it is best to leave permament notification on as changing the brightness with the slider with the setting off causes lux to stop working.

I have noticed this too and it doesnt drain battery because in the lux lite version it only sets auto brightness when unlocking the screen, after that the app does not use the camera anymore so it only costs tiny bit of battery for 2 seconds or so.

Same here. It lightens up when I get near a light, but if I'm further away, I usually turn it off and keep it at a comfortable level.
this has been mentioned a few times already and I find I'm opposite of you guys. It's too dang bright! you can install lux or velis to control auto brightness to your liking. you can even make some tasker tasks to force certain profiles based on various sscenarios like if your conn2cted to a certain ssid switch to a less aggressive setting or whatever. I think both require the paid versios for the tasker plugins. ive paid for both and like lux better since sub zero settings are easier and it "sleeps" quicker if I want it off.
It's always too dim for me. One of the first things I turn off and just control it manually.
before the mk1 update there was an extra slider in the notifications section that you could use to modify the auto a bit. Sadly that's gone now.

Same here, extremely dim, turned off since day one.

Dont know if it helps, but if you put it to Auto, then the slider will give you the option from -5 to +5, to make the auto a bit brighter or darker.

You're saying that's a stock feature? I don't see that on my tablet, but Xposed seems to add it on my phone.

Strangely the +5 / -5 option is gone since I installed the mk1 update
Yes, same here. It's always a little too dim for me and the screens shuts down too fast when it's on the lock screen. Sometimes it cuts out before it can auto rotate.
Way too dim, what the hell is wrong with the Samsung development guys who thought it was a great idea
that even in a dark room its too dim.
Just use Lux. It solves everyone's brightness problem no matter what the preference is for bright / dark.

When scrolling through a web page with a bright background (xda for example), does anyone notice a shift in brightness. Sorta like a flicker.

It seems that Lux in dynamic adjustment mode will adjust to upward changes in brightness, but won't adjust downwards when the ambient gets darker? Anyone else having this problem?

both lux and velis work fine on all my devices - auto up and down.
