I recall it was already in the news some time ago, but don't think it was an official confirmation... Definitely nice to hear this! :good:

Waiting....
lol...

We waited months for 5.0 to get to our Xperias, and now the wait for 5.1 has begun

sony is just awesome people!!!!
I love it even after 2 years.

Sony is the most awesome company i have come accross.
i am still in love with my 2year old phone

5.1 still has memory leak. Until Google has plugged all the memory leak, I won't take the update. Hopefully Sony still suppoorts the phone and sends us update when Google has finally fixed the memory leak.

Sources (link below) indicate that 5.1 actually resolves memory leak. I just got the C6506 and it was loaded with Stock Lollipop, but it was randomly rebooting itself. So i went back to 4.4.4 and i think it's flawless. I haven't had any issues with it. Hopefully 5.1 is a huge improvement over 5.0.2 and resolve the random reboot of the phone.

FWIW, 5.0.2 on C6506 has been great for me. Full stock on locked BL, rooted and debloated, with XZDR and Xposed installed and set up with about a dozen of modules. The phone is very stable, and more responsive and fluid than on KK. No lag at all anywhere, no indications of any problems related to a memory leak, noticeably better battery life, great deep sleep. The only thing I can't comment on is gaming, as I don't play games, other than occasional sudoku or solitaire. Everything else is excellent. I understand that everyone's experience may be different, but so far, I am very happy with the latest LP update. Waiting for 5.1, whenever it may come...

sweet, my biggest problem with 5.0 is the voicemail icon doesn't go away after reading voicemail... Have to restart phone...... Not a big deal, but can be irritating sometimes...

Nice to see that ZL will get 5.1
I just switched back to 4.4.4 from 5.02. Clearaudio and Xloud are missing in 5.02 (only active in Walkman app). Since I listen to a lot of audiobooks with the internal speaker, that's a killer for me. Tried other audio hacks to get more loudness, but the quality of those hacks was not satisfactory. (Besides, I wasted hours and hours trying to find a way to reactivate Xloud on 5.02)
So "Thank you Sony" for f***** up 5.02. Let's hope 5.1 gets better.

I want to say you made a bad choice. The development via Stock ROM is very slow for the international release. You might get frustrated like most of the people at @ oppoforums

While it is slow, it's by no means a bad phone. Especially if you install a rom on it

Do you mean to say that just because the software update is not frequent or present I should not buy this phone?

That's really up to your preference. I like what MaxxAudio adds, and the stock camera more than exceeded my expectations. Flashing to a stock rom would lose both of those things. A lot of people in the CM12 / nameless thread praise the battery life but I've been getting similar SOT/standby times on stock without having to worry about the random instability bugs that are still coming up (1-3% overnight usually, and otherwise idle is about 0.75% an hour according to GSM - longest i've stretched it to was 70 hours standby with 4.5 hours SOT from watching Gin no Saji). As pretty as Lollipop looks, I don't really feel like it would affect my daily usage of the phone.
So decide for yourself. Screen is great, i love watching my shows on here. Can easily get through a 25 minute episode of w/e show i'm watching with only 3-4% each with H/W+ decoding, the 10 bit videos that require S/W decoding suck up about 8-9%. A 29 minute youtube video drained 7% the other day (kingdom come deliverance update). Listening to music is great too, having an SD card slot is nice compared to a lot of other flagships right now. Play a lot of Phoenix Wright on drasticDS these days, phone never really gets hot or anything and drains pretty slowly considering you're running an emulator. Listening to my audiobook over bluetooth to a speaker sips about 1% an hour while I'm working out on rings.
For the price, I don't think you will be disappointed, I certainly wasn't. But if using a stock rom, or playing around with custom roms often is something you want to do then it might be better to look elsewhere.

Absolutely not! IMO the phone is solid on it's own stock firmware. People here tend to believe if it ain't broke, fix it anyway. In a way the stock firmware out performs the custom roms at the moment because of the camera app, the Maxx audio, screen off gestures, the auto power on for an alarm. You can reasonably expect the software to update to Lolipop in March or so. I only just started messing around wit custom roms which leads me to the stock firmwares only downside In my opinion.
Oppo for some reason decided to limit the amount of storage available for apps. So forget about having both XCOM and Clash of clans on your phone at once. I am running Nameless Rom with unified storage so I'm happy now. But as soon as Lollipop ColorOS is released I'm going back to stock.
You made an excellent choice. There's talk of unified storage being in the next OTA update, so limited space for apps should be a thing of the past. If you're one of those Android obsessives desperately wanting lollipop then you will be disapointed with colorOS - they still haven't released OTA kitkat, let alone lollipop. But there are plenty of updated ROMs to manually flash. Personally, I'm perfectly content with my rooted colorOS - faultless, and who needs Viper when you've got MaxxAudio?

Lollipop update for Verizon Note 4???

Does anyone know anything about the Lollipop update for the Verizon Note 4? Every other device is getting it, and every other carrier is rolling out thd lollipop update for the Note 4.... WTF Verizon?????
It is very typical of Verizon to be the last one to release an android update

If you want ROOT, you may want to hold off on the update until we can verify that we can downgrade to KK with no problems. A KK Root method is in the works and could be released this weekend.
I am downloading the first of 2 updates here in Des Moines Iowa now.
I got the notice also
I am also just installing update one of two. If interested, I will post results in a bit
All done and updated... [emoji4] [emoji4] [emoji4]
If root comes to this, cool.. But if not, oh well. I have lived without it this long on this device. And so far(typically it is choppy after an update), is running smooth on mine at least..
done
It says now version 5.0.1, which we were expecting but it really heated up my phone and sucked up half the battery so make sure you connect your charger and it is over 1gig so connect to wifi for the update. Im still playing around with it so I havent much to say about it yet...
This could just be me, but I was running the stock and I just updated to 5.0.1, and not my phone keeps crashing after 1-2 minutes. Even when I'm doing nothing it keeps crashing. Is anyone else having this issue??
Update is garbage.
Not a fan of Lollipop with Touchwizz.
good here!
Ive been playing around with it and it has been great since the update. no crashes or anything...
Loaded the update an hour or so ago and smooth sailing thus far. The handset was very warm during the update but cooled back to normal afterwards.
Liking the animation changes thus far. just making sure there have been no battery draining gremlins introduced.
Note 4 root
There is a possiblity of the retail note 4 root this weekend?

update to lollipop yes or no

hello. its been a while since i have updated my phone.
i have z1 compact
build number: 14.4.A.0.108
android: 4.4.4
model: d5503
rooted :yes
using xposed 2.7 experimental.
my phone works fine no issues. is it worth my while to update to lollipop?
if so can i update from this build num to the latest lollipop or do i need to through the various builds from mine?
thanks
Yes, I like it a lot and think it's a big improvement to KK.
No!
Its not easy to use as 4.4..
The battery is draining, and the os is taking more space..

My general rule of thumb was and is: DON'T touch things which work.
I am on the same OS/ROM as you and I don't plan to do any changes.
Too many complains about lolipop.
if there was no battery drop I would say yes, but now i say dont. wait for 5.1
wait 5.1 lad.
Try to w8 for 5.1 I'v also used LP but I revert back to 108 Munjeni because of battery drain and now on 108 everything works great and I'm waiting for 5.1

Don't! Lollipop ruins your battery, now my phone barely last 6 hours and randomly drops to 0 when doing some heavy task. It's becoming more and more common if you read this thread. Just wait till 5.1.1 and wait a few weeks after to see if there are bugs.
Background program handling is much worse in LP. At least for me. Programs now restart instead of picking up where I left them. Could be a memory bug, since the phone tends to restart after about a week of use, and symptoms such as gps stops working appear.
I upgraded without a factory reset, which could play a role.
Battery same as KK for me.
For the OP I would recommend waiting for 5.1 and the first few user reviews before upgrading.

Lollipop is as good as kitkat for me. Just do a clean install and you will be fine.
Since we never benefit by the most two important things in Lollipop of Camera API2 or 64bit, actually it is just a waste of time for Z1c to upgrade unless you real want to try out new stuffs. And 5.0.2 got memory leak, 5.1.1 should be much better on handling memory but still some leaks there. KK got the best battery for all.

yes and no, there is no memory leak, but the managment is worse. Ppl with 5.1.1 on Z3 are saying the managment os changeable apps got much better and for other devices too.
in my case battery is much better than on KK (about 2,5 days with "normal" use and display-on-time about 3,5 hours)
Why?
I disabled a lot of services, debloated the ROM and use Greenify, AppOps and a firewall.
And also important: i always close all recent apps before turning off the display
Which ROM?
look at my sig
p.s. photo quality is also worlds better
the worst action i took was uograding my phone to lollipop it seriously ruined my phone battery , heating issues , bootloops plus others so im waiting 5.1 to fix it as i called sony and they told me so , so never update your phone and listen to all these people telling you not you have a great stable firmware (kitkat) with xposed working flawlessly and those who told you to upgrade just got lucky and soon they will face exact problems
Firmware init + new SIM and always problems during calls....?!,?!,

"New" Z1C

I got a killer deal on a new, still-in-the-box Z1 Compact, and I'm wondering what the best thing to do is with regard to updating to the latest build. I've heard all the horror stories about the 5.1.1 update that I'm sure will be my only "automatic" option for ever upgrading it from its default state.
I'm not all that well versed on the particulars of each version of Android, so I guess what I need to know is if this latest 5.1.1 build is universally bad for everyone with this phone. Since some have reported new batteries resolving the problem, do you think it'll work on a brand new, never-touched Z1C (I haven't even turned it on yet)?
And if you do advise against Lollipop, how screwed am I sticking with an old Android version? Are there a lot of apps that require Lollipop? Part of the killer deal was no warranty, so I've only got one shot at this.
SImply put: If someone gave you a brand new Z1C and it was a "use it or lose it" situation, what would you?
Thanks in advance.
Lucky you!
If I got a brand new Z1C I'd configure it precisely the way I've got it.
Put the latest CM 11 nightly on it (there's a guy in the CM 11 thread who regularly updates the build to include Google's latest security patches) and also the Xposed modules I'm using. It's just so well configured right now, I'm even going to put a new battery in it next week since it's still really the best phone for me.
(Will consider ditching it for the Z3C later this year though.)
Right now? You may accept the deal! If there's no warranty and want a Stock-yet-Rooted experience you could go with a Stock based ROM (you can find plenty in the forum, based on 5.1.1 or 4.4.4, I suggest you to look ad Dstriker, based on 5.1.1)! Or you could get a CM based ROM like the Resurrection. Whatever you'll decide, work from that point with Xposed modules, Root apps etc.. to enhance your experience (if that really matters to you, otherwise just stick with the stock one).
I had the same problem about a week ago.
What I did was:
*updated it to latest firmware
*rooted with King Root
*backed up TA
*unlocked bootloader
*installed [KERNEL][Z1C][5.0-5.1][F2FS] Advanced-Kernel v16.0[11/16/2015]
*converted data & cache partition to F2FS
*installed [ROM][Z1C][LP][1.216][LB/UB]DstrikerZ1 Kai ROM SP001[27-Nov][Z5 LOOKS and FEATURES]
*installed Xposed
*did factory reset, cache and dalvik cache
*installed [Z~Z5 Series][EXRxTHS]SONY DRM FUNCTION RESTORATION FOR UB DEVICE
*rebooted to os
*Profit
At the moment after three days of usage 54% battery left. And the phone is flying :good:
If battery is your #1 priority, stay with stock or stock-based KK. I don't think there's much of any issues with app compatibility. However, I also haven't experienced any of the LP 'nightmares' some have reported. I've been on LP with this phone since it came out, and the battery drain is the only considerable downside I've found, and there are some roms that offer excellent relative battery performance, (dstriker, munjeni's 270, Oregon69's MIUI port...), and with battery saving tweaks, possibly comparable to KK. I would say go with latest version and try it out.
For battery, stock KK4.4.4 is still the best. Although, I'm running 5.1.1 and actually, it still brings me through two! complete days (i'm not a gamer, so light user).
However, with LTE / 4g switched on running my LP5.1.1, battery is going down like the Titanic on the iceberg.....so I only switch on LTE when really needed.
5.1.1 is just fine, battery difference between it and KK was negligible for me and other than that it runs very well
only downside is that ugly as hell blue status bar
5.1.1 is fine for me as well, 2-3 days regularly (no gaming).
I have stock 5.1.1, Locked Bootloader, but still have root access and TWRP.
Not had any problems(Needed to modify RW on SD card) and battery seems to be good.

Looks like soon it would be the US unlocked users getting angry : why the heck we're using a buggy version??
Even now it's EU users are complaining : when the heck could we taste nougat...??

Maximus HD is based on leaked EU update. And I am not talking about that.
Maybe you haven't seen what does the dev of Maximus say about the upcoming EU OTA?
No one has specified what "buggy" even means... is it something minor like a laggy UI or a major security vulnerability like stagefright?
*bugs* is a bull excuse in regards to no updates
while while they're fixing these bugs *with N then why didnt they continue to update our devices on MM with the monthly security updates ?
Europe unlocked devices haven't had an update since October & that came with the august 2016 security patch what happened too September, November , December, January
this fixed version of N will be out in February according to llabtoofer will likely be 7.0, we probably wont see 7.1 until spring (htc ultra hasn't even released yet & thats on 7.0)

Come on man, I am not saying US update isn't good. I am saying compare to EU update, US one is less responsive and less smooth. Been treated differently might make some users angry. #sense of humour#...
I am sure the US will also get the equivalent matching update around the same time
7.0 has been a mess, and even 7.1.1 has alot of problems, even on nexus/pixel devices. It would suck to be on 7.x and have that 30% battery bugg that alot of people experience. And thats just the obvious buggs.
7.x does not offer enough of a upgrade to make it worth having a buggy release. Esp if one is stuck with that buggy version for months.
I have the Nougat update on my T-Mobile HTC 10 completely stock not rooted and have experienced a few bugs.the day after I updated I took a picture and the phone froze went into a reboot and actually rebooted itself 4 times before it went back into the system. Had a random reboot another time and had an instance where my phone would not charge but a reboot fixed the issue
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
And please remember there's no OS nor app is bug free in the world. It is an excuse but also the truth.
I bought iPhone 7 last just want to experience a "smooth OS", but it freezed while taking a picture, battery drops very quickly and phone got every hot randomly... So yeah, back to HTC.

I tried N for a bit on Viper and had bad battery drain so I went back to MM and still had that battery drain, I found out Facebook has been causing bad battery so I uninstalled it and Messenger and seems to be much better. I was wondering if Facebook was my issue on N as well or if it was Android N causing it. Guess I will stick with MM for now.
I've been on Nougat for some time now (unlocked) and I have noticed any issues. What exactly is the problem?

i meant to say that I haven't noticed any issues, but clearly you understood me. ?
Anyway, I get push gmail notifications as usual, no issues there. I'm almost always only on mobile data, and rarely ever use battery saver. I have an unlocked stock US model.
The only minor issue I've noticed is that sometimes I don't get notified of whatsapp messages (via the notification shade), if multiple are received at around the same time.
The only bug i've found was in the Settings.
If you enter it, press back button and then try to enter again, it'll take some seconds to show up.
Everything else is ok.
