The threads I have been reading have all come from this area.
I have a BLU Studio HD 651u that is rooted.
Somewhere along the way of rooting and tweaking and what not, I managed to make a terrible mess of things with my phone.
I have a backup copy of the Stock rom for my device, and what I would like to do is install a custom recovery, then completely wipe my phone. COMPLETELY! (if that's possible), then, flash the stock rom back onto it.
I am hoping that flashing the stock rom doesn't 'unroot' my phone. I would like to keep that. It was quite an ordeal getting it rooted to begin with, and I believe the cause of some of the problems I am having.
The Stock rom files I have are not a zip file, so I would need guidance on that procedure as well.
I found links to the stock rom from the g+ pages for my device. There were 2 links. The one contains rom files for all the BLU devices, but the second link provided I'm not sure I even need.

I am pretty much a complete noob. I only have experience with one Android device, a Kindle Fire 1st gen. that I was able to root, but not without seeking help from the fine folks at this website.
I am hoping to strike luck again???...
I don't know if I should try installing the stock rom and then try to install a recovery or should I attempt to install the recovery first and then install the rom?
And at which point should I attempt to erase EVERYTHING on the phone?
I did look for a section on XDA for my device, but, there isn't one I could find, and like I said, the recovery tutorial was found in this sexction so I am hoping not to offend..
Any help/input/comments or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

I recommend to hard reset the phone before or after flash a ROM, even if you dont hard reset you will not have root
After flash the stock rom you can root and install custom recovery
The only way to format the phone it's when you can't install stock roms and SP Flash Tool keep showing errors, so format the phone and try again, it should solve (in some cases) some SPFT errors

Hi All,
I am new to android phones. I have installed a custom rom once on a tablet, but I am lost with how to install this on my new galaxy nexus phone.
I am trying to install the Android Open Kang Project - maguro - milestone 4 custom rom.
The phone is brand new, so I have nothing to backup or restore. It says that you need CWM and Nandroid, but those seem to be only for backup and restore. Do I not need those then?
If someone could provide or link a copy of some more detailed instructions with how to install the rom that would be great. I'm not sure what programs I need for flashing and how exactly to do that with this phone.

Here you go this is a toolkit to do all the basic stuff easily. Just read though it and follow all the instructions. Here is also the Verizon version i don't know if it's any different.
root and cwm are required for any custom rom at any time. those are basic things, root gives you the right to access to system and cwm is also a tool to install a rom in your phone

Don't forget to backup
Be careful, when you unlock your bootloader, all your data will be erase (photos, music, app ...).
Make a backup in your computer before =)
Hey guys/gals,
I recently bought a Koodo Galaxy s2x. After a few weeks I looked online and saw that there were some JB Roms for my phone. I couldn't resist and tried to flash one after rooting. I didn't have many problems with it, but there were some glitches that started to bug me, so I decided to see about going back to stock (I should have done this first I know). So then after hours(many) of searching, the best I could find was a T-Mobile stock Rom I decided to try and flash it (both times via odin). I also read somewhere that I should use darkside superwipe to clear my cache, so I tried that, but ever since that CWM stopped working on my phone. anytime I tried to do any back up or anything it just froze, and I had to hard boot. Finally I just tried flashing T-Mobile stock ICS, and Odin said "Failed". I decided to just unplug my phone, as I thought I already screwed it up, but after rebooting, the T-mobile Rom worked. I don't understand why it works fine if the Flash Failed. Now, I can no longer connect to kies (I'm hoping official JB will be shipped soon!), and I am wondering if I can somehow return to a stock Koodo Rom, and if it will connect to Kies again, as it previously had. I have looked a lot and have not found anything that I fully understand. I'm not overly experienced, which is why I should not have flashed to begin with. This is the closest thread I have found to help me, but I don't fully understand what all I need to do:

If your ultimate goal is to get Jellybean on your phone, check the development section of this subforum. There are numerous stable and wonderful JB roms (AOKP Milestone 6, Liquid Smooth, CM10).
To get back to your stock ROM, download it from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/koo...d.zip/download
Then, go into recovery (NOT odin), and flash the rom.

That link doesn't work, it says cannot find page. Also, my phone is currently not rooted, does it have to be rooted to flash from recovery? if not what do I do to flash from recovery? I know how to get into recovery, but after that do I use 'apply update from external storage'? Do I have to wipe the cache first?

PS: I just want to be able to get back to stock for now. At least until I learn more about flashing Roms. There is still lots for me to learn, like kernels, radios, Nightly's for official Roms, or even how to properly flash a rom without feeling lost. If I know a way to get back to stock comfortably, It will give me more reason to try some other Roms (once I learn how).

Are you running a custom ROM right now or your stock ROM? If you're running a custom ROM, it should come with root privileges. If you are running the stock ROM, you can just back it up instead of needing to download the zip from sourceforge. After rooting, get into recovery mode (if you can't get the button combinations to work, there is an app. called quick boot which reboots you into recovery/bootloader/etc). If you don't have a recovery or it's corrupt, download ROM manager from google play, and choose the 'install clockwork recovery'. Reboot to recovery to make sure it works, then uninstall rom manager (it's been known to cause bugs if you use it for other things - and I'd recommend other recoveries such as TWRP but it's a bit more advanced). From your recovery's screen, there should be a backup option. Make a complete backup and name it something appropriate. To flash a ROM, download it and put it on your storage drive. Reboot to recovery, and go to wipe. Wipe your data (factory reset), and system (only really need to wipe data in most cases, but be safe). To flash the custom ROM now (or flash the default ROM I just linked), there should be an option to 'install zip from sd card' or something similar. Choose that, browse to your ROM and install it. After installing, go to wipe and wipe your cache+dalvik cache, then reboot. Thanks a ton... Worked perfectly! I'm hoping it will connect to Kies once again.. I'll let you know if it works.
Unfortunately, I still can't connect to Kies.. It just sits at the Loading status (for like 10-15 mins). But At least I don't have all of the T-mobile apps and stuff anymore!
I'm not new to rooting, ROMS or Kernels but I'm no expert either. I've flashed all sorts of ROMS on my old EVO 4g. This Samsung is a little trickier, though. I've got it rooted. No problems there. I haven't permanently installed CWM recovery though. I've read where you need to rename certain files so the S3 won't re-load the factory recovery and though I've tried, my phone won't let me rename the files. So there is problem one (once these files are renamed, is there a way to go back if you so choose? CWM says it's permanent). That said, I've got ROM manager installed on the phone and can boot into CWM that way. I've pulled a full nandroid backup before I started any of this, so I should be able to go back no problem. But, how in the heck do I flash an AOSP rom? I have no external storage, so I'm trying to use the on board flash. But I can't access that through CWM, so I can't flash it. On top of that the instructions for the Carbon ROM I'm wanting to use say's to select the wipe data/factory reset selection in CWM. When I do that, of course it wipes everything on my internal SD card so there wouldn't be a .zip file to select anyways! This is freakin' frustrating, especially after coming from an older EVO. It was so much easier.
I keep reading about using adb sideload but after all of my reading, there is no (that I can find) repository for the "end all/be all" how-to on flashing the SPH-L710. No one explains it 100% or it's for a Nexus or something. A solid tutorial would be helpful!
So I guess this boils down to:
Can I go back to stock recovery?
How do I flash a ROM using the internal memory?
How do I do this with adb (assuming I have to).

Ive heard that there are issues with newer devices and their recoveries. You can read through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391616 maybe the solution is in there.
Look for the pre rooted Odin tar - it will give you root and a custom recovery in one step, and is currently one of the easiest root methods available.
As for the file renaming, using the Odin method will bypass any need for it - as long as you make sure "auto reboot" is NOT checked, you can safely disconnect the phone when the Odin flash completes, remove and replace the battery (I might have that detail mixed up from my OG Epic days, but the correct instructions will be found with the Odin file), then boot into custom recovery before anything else, you can flash your custom rom and reboot as normal.
Since you'll be flashing over a mostly factory-fresh stock rom (root is the only change), you shouldn't need to do the factory reset (I think some recoveries for our phone do correctly preserve the internal storage, but I can't remember which ones). And the part of the stock rom that replaces the recovery with stock will only run when the rom (not recovery) boots, so by flashing a custom rom without ever booting the stock one, you bypass that issue completely - that's why you don't want Odin to auto reboot your phone after the flash.
I think I've covered the important parts to get you up and running, but I'll double check your post for any questions that I missed. If you end up with more questions, don't hesitate to ask

- sure, but there is no good reason to unless you're returning to complete stock in order to sell the phone or to have it repaired or replaced... the easiest way for that is to Odin the non-rooted stock tar package

- it should work, I did this yesterday using CWM Touch. The possibly confusing part is that the internal memory is considered an sd card, but if you see two options then one will be clearly labeled as external (I say if because I don't know whether any recoveries hide that one when no sd card is actually present).
How do I do this with adb (assuming I have to).
I actually don't know the answer to this one, but if you use the Odin method then it won't be necessary

I think you are over complicating yourself. You should have started by flashing custom recovery with odin and that's it then in custom recovery flash the Teamepic root zip. That's it voila your done. Easiest thing in the world.
You can either download your future rom to internal or external memory and using the custom recovery of choice flash it.
In actuality it's much much simpler than any HTC device.

Since you are a new user I will help you with a little more depth, I hate seeing new users mess up their device. Give me a second to get it together and I will edit this post with some helpful info.

OK so Follow the instructions on this page ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2416431 ) to get a custom recovery. It's TWRP, and I like it a lot. I love that it's touch, because I remember using amon ra on the HTC Evo and you had to use the volume up & down + power button to navigate the menus and it was sometimes very easy to make a mistake. This touch recovery eliminates that.
Next, go to either the original android development OR the android development section of the Verizon HTC One and choose either an AOSP rom or sense based rom. So far I've used the Google Play Edition rom and now I'm on andy's bonestock and have really liked them both. Make sure any rom you ever flash is compatible with your phone, very, very important. if you don't know, just ask. MOST users on here are friendly and will say yes or no and not give you a hard time.
Roms are very easy to install. Just download the .zip, I download it straight from my phone, but you can also download on your computer and then transfer it to your phones storage. (thanks to andybones advice, I have started checking the MD5 of the rom. Devs include it in thread of the info of the rom here on xda, and once you have the .zip on your phone, use a file manager to view the MD5 and compare it to what the dev has put in their thread. If it matches, you're good. Then boot into recovery and DO A BACKUP OF YOUR STOCK AND KEEP IT!! Everything you need to backup is already checked with TWRP so that's helpful. Once you're done with the backup, then do a wipe. I wipe SYSTEM, DATA, CACHE, & DALVIK CACHE. Then, go back to the TWRP main screen and select install. Find the .zip you want to install and flash it. Some roms have aroma installer so it will bring you to a special screen that allows you to select options you want to have in the rom. check the boxes of the apps/options you want in the rom and follow the 'next' prompts until the rom installs. After you're done, reboot, set up your new rom and enjoy it!

Okay so I am kind of stuck, I have tried on Ubuntu, Windows, and Mac, but I cannot get my device to show up under fastboot command. Why wont it? I rebooted into fastboot from the bootloader.
EDIT: Nevermind fixed, I didn't realize it couldn't be booted into the OS.

Before flashing any rom, you should make a backup, so that you can revert to a prior iworking state, in case the rom doesn't run or doesn't please you.
Can Someone Sticky This, or Create a Thread to Stick This? Then people can be pointed to it.

just went s-off
I just successfully ran Rumrunner on my HTC One GSM and now I am leery about flashing Roms on my device. I'm currently using Twrp 2.6.3.3, and is wiping SYSTEM, DATA, CACHE, & DALVIK CACHE really safe? Cause before I would do a advance wipe for every new install..
And, is there a way to revert back S-on without locking bootloader? Cause every method I've looked up restores to stock..

So I was getting tired of the rom I was on and decided to switch. I am using the BUMP'd twrp by the way. I did something really stupid. I restored the stock rooted rom while searching. Apparently it auto updated. I can now no longer get past twrp recovery no matter what i do, restore, reinstall, wipe everthing. If someone can link me to a guide using adb to flash a stock iso or something? Please help this is my everyday device.
Rule one to flashing: never flash without a backup. It sounds like something went wrong but if you can actually get into TWRP you should be able to flash either an older backup (easiest) or wipe and reinstall your current ROM. Autoprime was nice enough to pack it into 3 seperate flashable zips. Follow those instructions TO THE LETTER.
IF you can't get into TWRP for whatever reason google "D855 6.0 marshmallow official update" and find something that shows you how to do it with the official flash tool supplied by LG. Can't link it cos im not sure if im allowed to link to outside websites here.
