Strange charging port dilemma discharging While charging - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

OK I'm using a old s4 temporarily ,normally I'd be on a s6 like I was .
This phone Initially assumed had a bad battery so I replaced it cause its a old phone and batt...
I've seen this before and never really narrowed it down to bad USB cable bad batt or something internal with phone..
Wether im on a rom or stock rooted or stock shipped no root It's like the phone wants to fight charging while discharging ,all while in use and turned on and charging .
The charge % gained is so slow vs any other s4 I've had and defiantly not like a s5 or s6
I may get 2% gain every 5 min while using a Samsung fast charger 2amp.
A lot of times I can see it discharge while charging ?
I tried 2 new batteries wiped cache dalvic multiple times
I know the charging port is bad for a fact because USB port has to be held in certain spot angle to charge...
Although logic would say if you see it charging and you see the charging BOLT? Regardless if its a worn port can a charging port that's bad but still charges charge the phone slowly cause a discharge or faulty slow Charge even when your 100% sure u see it charging ?
I have the new port coming today .
And even after and when I've managed to get 100% charge on a new battery stock rom I'm getting a fast discharge rate like 1% every 3 minutes drain.
Any known fixes ? Kernel fixes ,deep sleep issue? Volte causing the drain like it did on the s6?

[Q] Battery life and Android OS drain bug

For anyone using Android 4.0, specifically running it as stock on this device, do you experience the same battery drain issues commonly seen in Gingerbread? You know the one where the process Android OS uses an ungodly amount of battery life through suspend and events/0?
been playing around with the phone for the past 8 hours from a full charge, nothing unusual about the battery
tomorrow with normal usage after the full charge i'll get a better view about it

Does it take long to charge the battery? Like the nexus s. If its a slow charging phone like the nexus s then im not buying.
didn't think that fully charging it toke that much
i usually leave the phone charge when i go to sleep
removed from a 100% charge at 9:15am GMT
I own Nexus S too and experience the same, slow charging ... using the charger from Samsung (default).
So, I changed the charger and I use the one that came with the HTC Desire
And it is much faster, like 3 hours to go fully charged compared to more than 5 hours.
So, there you go, change your charger!

I can usually get my nexus S to a full charge in an hour or two, depending on how empty I let it get. It's fast enough that if I've forgot to charge & need to go out a 20 minute blast will get me through the evening.
No idea who made the charger.. I've got a house full of the damned things these days
So what about life time?
Just check your chargers mA output, the higher the nr, the faster the charge. A computer USB port outputs 500mA wich gives a rather slow charge normal mA on chargers is around 700mA -> 1A. Keep in mind though that higher mA resulting in a faster charge puts more stress on your battery and it WILL get hotter, to high numbers can even damage your battery so be carefull and monitor your batterys temp when trying a new charger!

Slightly off topic, but regarding charging...
Does charging via a "weaker" USB port damage the battery? For example, at work, the only USB port available is an old iMac keyboard USB port, and it's "weaker" in the sense that when I connect it to my phone, the computer tells me "A USB device needs more power.... "
I understand this might charge the battery slower, but does it cause any damage to it, short or long term?

As far as i know USB before 2.0 needed external power supply, meaning your device should not be able to charge from this type of USB. But to answer your question, no, you can not damage an electric device by undervoltage or lower Amps.

Hope to get the GN soon.
Like to see and test how the charging is with different chargers.
Have seen slow charging ( also better hold out ) with different chargers.
My best charging is stil with the original desire ( charges quick and battery holds longer ).
Galaxy S plus is slow, wildefire also slow...

Phone charging really slow??

So my s2 has been charging really slow, like today it took like 5 hours to fully charge, and when connected to charger if I'm using it it wont charge very well, like the battery will stay at lets say 20% when im using it and charging it, it might even go down more. it used to charge pretty well even if I was on it. Cuz this be the charger, or is my battery messed up?? Im using the charger that came with the phone.

Are you charging through a usb port on your computer or ac? If it is with usb port then yes it will charge at a much slower rate. Also if you have a lot of apps running or backround data going it will also cause your charging to slow down some. I would say through usb without any apps open and backround data stopped It would take a few hours to charge say from 20%. Through AC in the same condition probly 1.5 hours. Try to reboot your phone and then plug it in to charge to see if that doesnt speed it up any. If it does then you know you have backround data moving at a fast rate and that would be your reason to slow the charge down.
Yeah I'm charging with the wall charger, not thru usb

thats pretty weird...have you tried using another usb cable?? maybe the cable is faulty?
Calibrating the battery

You could try calibrating the battery, maybe. To do that, turn the phone off. Charge to full (make sure it's full, by taking it off of the charger and putting it back on...the indicator should read 100% almost immediately when reattached to power).
When the battery is full, with the phone still turned off, remove the battery for about 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, reinsert battery and restart phone.
Battery will be calibrated. This may not resolve the problem of a slow charge, but will clear 'battery memory' which may have been preventing it from charging completely (and, I suspect, may have inhibited charging).
Good luck!
I was using an aftermarket wall charger and had similar results. Switched to the USB/AC converter that came with the phone and all was well.

Yes, try Battery Calibration from the market. Only works on rooted devices, and follow instructions.

Actually, one doesn't need an app to calibrate the battery. If you follow the instructions above, the app is unnecessary. And the phone mustn't be rooted
YODA? ^^^^
Hey elflip88, have you found the issue yet?
I have the same problem on my HTC Amaze 4G. It's charging 1% every 3 minutes (adds up to 5 hours)
I'm also using the wall charger...oh damn, I'm starting to think I have a faulty device / battery...
yelp!
For the record Samsung devices are known to be slow at charging so with that considered.... You still shouldn't be at 5 hrs. I would find a battery stats app charge your battery over night and check the chart to see exactly how long it takes to go from 0 - 100. Make sure your batter status is good. Also check the voltage coming into your phone from your charger. There are plenty of battery stat apps in the market that will do this sort of thing. Of course make sure your battery doesn't have water damage of course too lol.

I've had the same problem with mine. But, I can get 1.5 days without charging and moderate usage. Charge it up, drain it, charge it back up then wipe your battery stats in recovery.
This may help if you're using an aftermarket wall charger
If you guys are having issues with slow charging using an aftermarket wall charger, it could be that the phone is charging in a USB state rather than an AC charging state. QuickCharge could alleviate your issues. The cable is inserted between the wall charger and the USB cable that goes to your phone. You can find the product on Amazon. It's the 2nd of 3rd item from the top when you search 'QuickCharge'.
I find that when I fully drain my battery and charge it, it's really slow. Once the phone has enough battery to stay on, I unplugged it and replugged it and it charges normal again.

It's your wifi and your apps using wifi. Turn wifi off while charging. I used to charge 4 hours + on my S2. Reduced to 2 and some change when I turn off wifi.
Also, I struggle to make it through a working day with wifi on. Turn wifi off and I can do 4 days no problem.

[Q] Charging issues - CM10.1

I currently have the CM10.1-M3 build from 4/17/13 installed.
For a long while, I have been having major issues charging my Captivate Glide.
My original battery died. It was bloated. I called AT+T and they sent me a replacement. I also bought two high capacity batteries.
If I leave the phone charging about half the time little or no progress is made charging. Lat night I charged the phone for over 8 hours and the charge went from 10% to 14%.
Other times I will wake up after charging it all night and it will say fully charged, but then the instant it is unplugged from the charger, it will drop down from 100% to 20% or less.
Then once every 3 or 4 days it will actually fully charge. But even in that case the charging is slow at best.
I did a full wipe and re-flashed last night and nothing changed. I have tried charging in airplane mode, but that seems to make it worse. I have had a little tiny bit of success turning mobile data off, but otherwise I have tried everything I could think of with no luck.
Has anyone else experienced similar issues, or have any suggestions? Is this a case where I might need to replace the phone entirely?

I have tried a few different chargers. I mostly use a 2.1amp wall charger. I also have a 1 amp wall charger, and a 1 amp car charger. I have tried about 3 different car chargers.
I am really suspicious that the micro-usb port on the phone went bad and that I will need to get the phone replaced.
Charging with AC is gonna be alot faster then with DC. But as far as it being the rom I don't see tthat.. sounds like possibly a loose wire or bad connection when u lay ur phone down

Charging
Hello,
When I charge my Captivate Glide with phone powered up plugged in to the wall, using the supplied wall charger, I've noticed that the battery seems to drain quicker. This is with the original battery, I will be getting an extended battery for my phone. If I power the phone down then charge it in to the wall it charges quickly and seems to take longer draining. This does not happen when charging with the PC.

Bloated battery could just be bad - but it could also be due to overcharging. That's not going to happen unless there is a serious problem with your phone, or possibly a problem with the contacts leading to an incorrect voltage reading. This also may explain your problems charging and sudden jumps in charge %.
Clean your contacts well on the battery side and phone side with a pencil eraser, rubbing alcohol, etc.
I notice a big difference with whatever kernel is shipping with the current M3 cm10.1 build between a 500ma charger and 2amp charger, so I imagine the kernel is set for a 750ma or 1amp charge.

[Help Request] Charging issue

I been having troubles charging my S4 and I used the one that comes with the phone when you buy it and it charges completely but now I have a different one that's made by Samsung but my phone wont charge completely. I put it on the charger at 10 am and by the time I go to school its at 60 or 70 percent everyday, even when it's on airplane mode. Is there a way I can fix that? I tried wiping my battery stats and I also got Battery Doctor but that doesn't help either... So can someone help me with this issue?
Additional information:
Running Wicked Rom.
Stock Battery
Not even 2 week old yet.
I haven't dropped it at all.
No water damage at all.
Also charger is a 1.0 amp charger made by Samsung.
I'd consider flashing to stock and starting over, buying another battery, or another charging cable.

I still use the stock charger and cable that came with the phone and my phone charges at approximately 1% per minute (or even a little higher) when it is on the charger. If yours doesn't charge that fast try another cable (borrow one if you have to or go to the T-Mobile store and ask them to use one of their cables to test it for you). Good news is that even if your battery has gone bad you have a phone for which the battery is easily replaceable.

I have figured it out. I uninstalled a few programs that wouldn't let my battery charge completely. I noticed there were three applications running while my phone was on and those thee programs were running all the time without me knowing. So I Delete Battery Doctor, Clean Master, and Wakelock Detractor. After I uninstalled those, my phone was charging a lot fast and when I woke up today, my phone was at 100% and I was happy. I thought I would have to re-flash my rom.

extremely slow charging

Hey
So I used to have a steady 30 - 45% per hour charge time on my desire eye using the stock charger not 2.0 fast charge
Now after leaving it connected to the charger while flashing a rom (this was a total mistake) I can't seem to get the charge rate to above 20% per hour same or different charger so it takes extremely long to charge
HELP ANYONE??
Check your charging cable for any damage.
Also check if you have some problems with battery (for example, MRA bug cause a huge battery drain, that also decrease charging speed, also overheating).
If your battery is OK, than maybe you need a new charger.
Most probably MRA issue, install xposed module "Marshmallow Radio Active Fix" in order to fix this issue. Your welcome. Oh on the other hand if u do not have MRA issue do not try installing this module just in case cuz I tried that and let me tell u it crashed my phone and caused boot loops.
