i was wondering if any 1 knows how to set up my fire tv stick with a layout to show my sideloaded apps to look like this. as i have a 2nd FTV and i have to go the long way to get to kodi ect through settings, managed installed apps..
or know of a way i can totaly back up my stick and transfer all data to another device. i looked at rooting but looks like i need to do some soildering
i have images to show how my layout is with apps like mobdro WSS and kodi skygo, btsport, ect with in the actual apps section without me going into manage installed apps. unable to post pics due to post count. i could link any 1 with images if some 1 could post for me
Not sure what you mean, cause you said "like this", but did not post a pic. I have a feeling that you might be talking about making all your apps show up in the apps section. All you have to do is downoad and install the Amazon App Store apk then reboot. It will show all of your apps in the apps section on the fire launcher, but it will break some functionality like being able to install amazon apps, but to fix it all you have to do is uninstall the app store and reboot. I never install apps from the amazon launcher anyway so I just leave the app store installed.

Just some advice, install Dock4Droid and you can launch apps from anywhere. You can set your favorite apps to always appear on the dock. With Dock4Drid there is no reason to go to the launcher to open any apps.
i posted like this. as i was going to add pics but cant due to post count. i will try wat you said and see if it works. if so i will come back with feed back. thanks
YES i installed the Amazon App Store apk, and it changed the layout what i was looking for. kudos

On my phone, its there in the app drawer under the name "Play Movies"...
Ok I finally figured out where it is stored. So I temp unrooted my phone made purchase and then selected download for offline viewing. So in the directory there is a file
application_4jSa8szMNjs.wvm
so i brought my root back to get into that directory then where i was stumped i figured it would be wmv mp4 3gp or whatever with drm protection but no its wvm I have never heard of wvm. so anyways I moved the wvm file to a different directly. Temporarily unrooted my phone . Then went into the google play movie app and it said that the download was missing. so i know I have the proper file. Now my question is does anyone here know anything about a .wvm file ?
I posted how to get GAPPS working in the Fire HD 6&7 threads a few weeks ago and was informed it works on the HDX as well. This video will show you how you can install GAPPS on the Fire HD6, HD7 or HDX without root. All Google Apps should work excluding Google Search (Google search now works), Google Play Store, and Hangouts.

Yes. Works with 4.5.1
Is it just (lucky) me or does this fix also allow to verify app purchases via the Google license checker? Sideloaded my paid apps and they work! Don't know if this would also happen without GApps.
Excellent thanks, this worked for me on 4.5.1, did it on my Mac too. :good: :good:
Any chance of Chrome working?

First off - thank you for this, saved me from having to root the device and gives me the functionality I was going to root for.
The only issue I'm having is that Gmail isn't syncing in the background. If I get new mail the Amazon email app notifies my in the shade straight away but Gmail won't. If I open Gmail I have to sync manually. I've checked in the Gmail app settings and it is set to sync and create notifications - any ideas? I thought one of the frameworks in your zip might need re-installing?

Scratch that, I uninstalled gmail, Google Play Services and Google Framework. Then I resinstalled the versions in your zip, ran the ADB command and hey presto notifications are working again. Either the updated version of play services that 1mobilemarket installed doesn't work or the ADB command needs running again after the update.
Working gmail notifications again

But is it only me or is the Play store not working?

Quoting from the original post "All Google Apps should work excluding Google Search (Google search now works), Google Play Store, and Hangouts." Google play store will not work without root. I plan to sync my apps to my dropbox in apk form and then use file manager with dropbox access to access them and install.

Unfortunately you won't get the Play store without root. This app collection only includes the play store apk as I think it's needed to sign into other GApps.
Amazon won't let the app revenue slip away from them that easily...! I've installed 1mobile market and that has a lot of the apps missing from the Amazon store.
I've not managed to fix the gmail notifications, are they working for others?

Too bad that there isn't any other solution... What is really the problem? Is it hosts, DNS or what ever related?
Is there no way to adb into the HDX and make the necessary changes?

Works on the Fire TV
Thanks for this helpful HOWTO.
I used this on my Kindle Fire HDX 7 and also on my non-rooted Fire TV with the latest firmware and it worked.
You should post this HOWTO in the Fire TV section too.
Cheers
Why do you all need the Play Store so badly? For free apps the 1Mobile App-Store isn't that bad, there is a lot of crap but as long as you know what you are searching you have almost everything (check if the download is genuine though). And for paid apps: I can buy them with my rooted S2 in the Play Store and transfer them with an *.apk extractor to my Kindle.
(I hope this does not sound a warez-discussion, but regarding my earlier question: don't apps have some DRM or any other copy protection? I was amazed how easy it was to transfer the apps I bought - or is it because I have a somewhat Google Account on the Kindle?)

Awesome info! Will do!
I have several brand new 16gb 2013 Nexus 7s that I need to set up for a project at work. I created a new Google account and updated both to Marshmallow according to the instructions here:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?hl=en
I've done two so far and both are exhibiting the same strange behavior. The Play Store isn't listing the installed apps or automatically updating them. Under My Apps, both INSTALLED and ALL are completely empty.
Things I've tried:
Clearing Storage On Play Store
Reboot
Factory Wipe
I searched for gmail and found that it needed an update. I manually installed the update and now it's in the list.
Made a second new Google Account
I added new user and set up my personal Google Account in the device and it recognized all of the system and immediately started updating them.
I don't want to have to install my personal account on all of these tablets. Do anyone have any idea what could be wrong with my new Google accounts and how I could fix them?
Check out the top quality support I got from Google:

If I understand correctly, the original account that was used while setting up the account doesn't download the apps automatically but when you add a new user in the device, all the associated apps get downloaded, is that correct?
me 11:49 AM
I created a new Google Account and with it the Play Store does not recognize the installed system apps on a brand new install. But when I set up an old, established Google Account as an additional user on the tablet, it recognized the system apps.

Could give me the example of the system apps that aren't recognized with the new account?

I've seen this problem with many phones and brand new google profiles. Manually search for the apps and update them. You can also find them with appbrain.
I'm trying to add a launcher to kodi to go to the amazon fire tv settings. Does anyone know what the package name is to launch firetv settings? I've tried com.amazon.tv.settings, com.amazon.device.settings, and com.amazon.acos.providers.UnifiedSettingsProvider and none seem to work. I'm trying to figure out how to add it manually into Kodi's favorites since I can't see system apps to add the normal way. For example, here is the code added to Kodi's favourites.xml for Plex app:
Code:
<favourite name="Plex" thumb="androidapp://sources/apps/com.plexapp.android.png">StartAndroidActivity("com.plexapp.android")</favourite>
The Answer To Your Question Is
com.amazon.tv.launcher
Your Example Has Intrigued Me.
Code:
<favourite name="Plex" thumb="androidapp://sources/apps/com.plexapp.android.png">StartAndroidActivity("com.plexapp.android")</favourite>
Does It "Translate" Into Something Like This Below?
Code:
am start -n com.plexapp.android/.StartAndroidActivity

i hacked the device, loaded apks (ie cinema) and watched a tv show without problems. the next day on every apk when i tried to view the show i was asked to subscribe to hulu and pay for it. i had not installed a vpn system. can i rectify the problem by (1) uninstalling the apks and buy a vpn service and reinstall the apks or (2) use a different firestick or is there no way i can return to getting tv programs as before without a hulu requirement? did signing in to my amazon account make any difference and if so can i replace the firestick and if possible use it without signing in to my account?
any suggestions are appreciated

im unsure what happened here. uninstall HULU maybe? not sure how a VPN would play this. Did you install apk's from a good source? Almost sounds like a virus/scammer, trying to steal data...
What do you mean by "hacked"??
I didn't do anything specific and I can run 3rd party apps like cinema just fine, without any extra subscriptions at Hulu or whatever.

all apks installed per every youtube suggestion from the list from something point as i recall.
all i know is when i searched for the tv show "the goldbergs" on one of the 4 apks (cinema, catmouse, etc.) two or three options came up, the usual pictures of the show, one was the old 1950's one. i clicked on the new box, a selection of which series appeared and i selected series and a show and it ran. the next day every one of the 4 "cinema" type showed the boxes with instructions of payment options below the boxes (the usual, $1.99 per show, etc.), or free with a trial subscription to hulu.
my first thought was that the absence of vpn protection was a factor, but nobody i speak to appears to believe that.

as usual, it was human error (HAL still is error free). seems 4 apks’, when one searches for some tv shows, lead you to the only option is to join hulu. but one of the 4 also has a “hulu/netflix” option, and there the same hulu show which you have to join hulu to watch is available without impediments.
much thanks for the replies and assistance
