I have the 855 (3 branded) variant of the European G3 and a few things are just not working correctly and I'd also like to get rid of the 3 carrier logo on boot up and shutdown.
I don't really want to be rooted, I just want to get back to the Lollipop firmware that it came with.
Can anyone please tell me where to get the firmware, I've seen someplace with the Euro 855 and the HK 855 firmware but I think it was for KitKat and not Lollipop.
I'm using this page:
http://downloads.codefi.re/wolfgart/LG_G3 and choosing the 855 variant
The kitKat ROM seems to have 2 folders - 10a and 10e and each of those contains a ROM. There's no explanation as to what the difference is between them!
Is this the right ROM, Is it even Lollipop?
Please help!!
Just root, install twrp and flash a custom ROM, then flash official firmware found on xda for the D855.
Alternatively, there are stock based custom ROMs.
Also, if you root your phone you can remove or/and replace your boot animation i.e. rid your phone of the 3 logos!
Thx. Ive rooted it to try and remover the 3 startup screens and failed miserably so I wondered if there was just a way to re-flash stock without installing a custom recovery etc. If I'm going to have to send it back to LG, I'd rather not have any evidence of it being messed around with!

Oops. How did you fail miserably?
What about:
https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_d855 and then:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
I read somewhere that all you needed to do to get rid of the boot animation was to go to /system/media and delete bootanimation.zip and shutdownanimation.zip. I couldn't delete them so I just re-named them. When I re-booted, it made no difference - those damn animations and 3 logo were still there!
I didn't really know where to go so I gave up as I am also having intermittent problems getting email from outlook.com!
I'm fairly sure you can only edit system files, like boot animations, when you have root. You're right, those are the correct files but you need root to delete them. Outlook emails work fine for me. Have you tried using a different app e.g. cloudmagic?
Yeah, thats the weird thing. I rooted the phone and could edit the names quite easily! It just didn't make any difference!
I tried different email programs including Nine but the problem is always the same - sometimes emails come in fine and sometimes, they just don't arrive at all. No notifications, nothing. I know that they're there because my iPad will chime but sometimes the G3 will chime at the same time, sometimes it will chime 2 mins later and other times, it just won't chime at all and won't actually have any new email until I launch the app.
I have wifi on all the time and I make sure that it stays on when the screen is off (in WiFi settings).
It just drives me crazy that the email is so unreliable on my device!
Also, the second link to how to go back to stock is brilliant but following it you get to Lollipop firmware to the G3 and there are 4 variants:
http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/LG+G3/Stock/
go to Lollipop 5.0 --> D855 directory--> 4 variants!
Which one do I choose??
I clicked the TOTS folder and downloaded v10e EUR. I used the xda thread about flashing TOTS
That's great am2012, off to find the thread about flashing tots now...
Wait, that didn't sound right!
Is this the right thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
Yes, that's the one.
Thank you so much for the help. I'm going to flash this in a while. In the meantime, I've discovered that its a wifi issue. When the wifi is on, email is intermittent. If I switch wifi off, emails arrive at exactly the same time as iOS devices! Some sort of wifi bug obviously..

You're welcome. Is there an option you have selected to only accept Wi-Fi if there is a strong signal, perhaps?
No, there's nothing like that. It looks like once the wifi signal is dropped, the G3 doesn't switch over to cellular network for its data..
Hmm

i was on a cwm before but it ended up flashing a new one and thats when i started having problems now no recovery stuck at lg logo and i know my battery is low
The first thing I would do is pull your battery, wait a few minutes, put the battery back in and connect the charging cable. It may not want to boot but it will charge the battery while the phone is off. Get your battery charged first, then worry about getting it up and running again.
Keep in mind I'm not picking at you or anyone. But why would someone choose to flash a Rom designed for one version to another version? I know our devs make tweaks to allow one to run on the other but it's a chance I wouldn't take. If you have the E980, stick to E980 Roms. It's risky enough flashing Roms as it is because no two devices are the same. You know what I mean? And don't smash you phone. There are many smart people here that can get you up and running again. Smash the phone and you will be upset with yourself later....trust me. I did it and I was pissed at myself later when I found out it was easy to fix....stay calm....lol
i know i knew i should not have idk ive been flashing zips for a very long time guess it happened to still get the best of me even though i read through the thread and i seen a couple e980 users saying it worked haha well not for me i just hope i can get her back up and going soft bricks are ok its when i cant fix this that makes me crazy. slammed around my dual monitors and almost went after my evga build which would not have been good. Man i can not thank u enough i even had to make another account my old one was lows10 and i guess it was inactive for to long but been here since 07 only place i trust to exploit my devices.
Well I'm not the smartest person here. I just got this phone about a month ago and I haven't even got flashing it back to stock down pat yet. It's a work in progress....lol. But just get your battery charged for now. Then you will most likely have to flash it back to stock. I don't know if you have done this process yet on that phone but if you have then you know basically what you need to do. Just don't go flashing any more Roms made for other versions of the g pro....lol
this will be my 3rd time flashing back to stock but with my phone not being read as a e980 i cant get back to stock.
Did you use the Lg Flash Tools method?
Yes lg flash tool has worked perfect until now after that ROM

Ok. Give this method a try....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459825....I don't know if it will work for ya as it didn't work for me. But hey, you gotta try something and maybe you will get luck and it will work for you. Give it a go and see what happens.

Tricky bugger it's gonna be ah? Did you try running it in Administrator mode? Be sure to follow the steps exactly as he lays them out.
Well in the left it says lge988at maybe thats why it isnt working with the lg flash? Grrrr idk this sucks and it keeps stopping working and its not in english
It has to be on com 41. I have noticed the lg flash tools method can be hit and miss with allot of people. I finally got it down pat enough to get it to work every time. You could try doing it this way........http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476........He gives a link to a newer lg flash tools. Maybe you will have better results.
damn it still closes with that its right after it gets done loading my phone i guess i cant flash a e988 stock and see if that works? thats what it reads it as right before it closes idk maybe its cause 8.1 but dont think so the app doesnt even open in english idk seems like everyone elses is.
Honestly I don't know why it isn't in English. It is for me but I'm on the stock E980 FW. All I can think is you, somehow, flashed the Korean version of the F240. Just as a precaution I keep a flashable stock 10k on my sd card just in case the need for it arises. But not being able to get into recovery isn't helping your cause here. Keep an eye on the battery as well. If it starts draining down too far just power it off and let it charge more so you don't get so involved with the phone you forget. The problem for me is I'm more of a hands-on person. it's harder for this type of person to walk someone through fixing a gadget.....lol.
An honestly man, I don't know how else to help you. Hopefully someone allot smarter than me is gonna come along any minute now that will know exactly how to fix this issue. All I can suggest now is to keep searching the forum for this type of problem and find a solution. Just don't lose your temper or give up. The solution is here somewhere. I'll search around too. See what I can dig up.
exactly what i thought man ahhh and idk why its not in english either i mean im on my pc there should be no reason for it not to work. Idk I appreciate all your help. havent been in trouble like this since back years and years ago on the old first gen g1 hahahah. and ya flashing the Korean version of the F240 is what i did i really hope there is a way to fix this i had a backup but external sd card quit working so tranfered it on the phone when it still worked flashed back seemed fine went to try flash the e980 baseband and still no good now im just stuck. tempted to try and see if the e988 will work since it wont flash the stock e980 sorry for keep on talking im just going crazy.
It's all good man. I understand your frustration. I have been doing this for a long time now as well. Most of my experience is with moto's and Samsungs. Now I'm learning all over again with another phone myself. But anywho, yeah, give that a try. Flash the e988 if you can. At least if it works you can get into your recovery and sd card to try and flash it back to stock from there and be back on the E980 fw. It's like going around your ass to get to your elbow but hey, if it works who cares right?.....lol. And if you get it working again I suggest putting a flashable stock zip on your sd card just in case. But as I said before, It doesn't help if you cant get into recovery. But when you can it can be a life saver.
I do remember reading there are permission issues if you're running windows 8 or 8.1 on that last method I linked you to. You may want to look into how to overcome that issue and try again. If you haven't already that is.
Hmm at least it says e980 now but can't get past this

I feel like a moron because mine hasn't updated automatically from 4.4.4. Any way to force the Lollipop update? I already checked and have the 24 wait period in effect. Thanks!
Happened to me as well. Go into settings, time and date, uncheck the automatic date/time function and move the date 1 day ahead. I would reboot the phone just in case, and check it again.

Weird - just did all that and it still says software is up to date. Any other suggestions?
Called AT&T to see if they could push Lollipop to my device. No dice. Tried the "move ahead one calendar day" trick, but it didn't work. Now it shows that I can't check again for 702 hours. Ha! Any other suggestions? Maybe it just hadn't rolled out to everyone yet. I'm in Chicago, if that matters.
If you don't have an issue wiping your data then you can use the stock Odin file in the general sub to flash it back to stock and update again.
I had my wife's phone updated with a push from AT&T. She had the same issue. They have to file a ti let and tech department did it but took a few days.

I haven't really messed around with root stuff in a while, but I know even without root we used to be able to download the update, put it in the root or the SD card and rename it update.zip . Does this not work anymore? I really thought there would be a way to force the update somehow..

That would work if someone has captured the zip file or the download URL, which no one has done. Virtually every 5.0.1 related thread has someone asking for this, with the same response. No one has it, and if they did, it would be available in a stickied post.
Oh the woes of waiting for updates lol.
I remember with my OG moto droid waiting for 2.1 lol.
And how 2.2 blew my mind. Now look at it.
i had to flash oem kitkat to my att note 4, which right after the flash immediately got lollipop.
if you do got to the Samsung kiosk have them re-flash kitkat. then the download for lollipop will update after setup.
Force update to marshmallow?
Hi, absolute idiot when it comes to stuff like this.
So, i was searching through my apps list when i noticed AT&T software update.
I dont need any AT&T applications as i am in Australia and do not have AT&T.
i have tried to force an update by following the clearing data and force stopping the Google services frame work.
tried it multiple times, nothing.
Then i thought i could disable the app of the AT&T software update, and then i fell deeper into the rabbit hole of how OSPolice got in trouble and how there is 2 versions of package disabler pro.
So here i am, stuck with 5.1.1 and i have no idea what to do.
No, i am not going to root it. This is an AT&T phone, with a bootlocker on it. If anyone, *ANYONE*, can help me solve this small issue that would be much appreciated.
Before i make the upgrade to lollipop i want to know the positives and the negatives, I dont want to flash my UK T800 and am considering doing the OTA upgrade to lollipop when it is released in the UK.
Can you add to the for and against list please., and i will update the list.
Only owners who have the official rom for their country please contribute.
For : third-party apps can write to the microSD.
Against : Battery does not last as long, lagginess, flash led problem, too much white in the settings, Touch Key duration bug
Thanks
John.
Subjective - the battery life is better/no different for a large number of people, especially if you factory reset.
The finger reader works much better. Otherwise, I don't see a lot of difference personally.
LED FLASH
well since i upgraded my device the LED flash became a problem. I need to reboot the device in order for it to work, after a day or two it'll stop working and i need to reboot the device again for it to work. its not the camera app as i tried it with many flashlight apps and the problem still persist. Other than that, Lollipop is ok on the t700. no problem whatsover just the LED flash.
So is it really the lollipop upgrade that is causing the problem, or is it just a coincidence and it`s a hardware fault really, we need some other people who have upgrade to lollipop to confirm the problem if there is one.

ok, i just read an old blog about this same problem on the samsung galaxy s4, unfortunately there are no replies on that blog. Anyways, im willing to consider that its a hardware problem but im 100% sure that when im on 4.4.2 kitkat everything works fine. when i updated my device on 5.0.2, thats when my LED flash became messed up but still works and will stop and then needs a reboot. Hopefully its just a software bug or something.
I have the same problem with flash led. Also there are lot of new problems which werent there in kit kat.

For me I was having terrible lad problems especially in web browsing to the point that I thought of getting rid of it (SM-T800) but after I updated to the Canadian version of lollipop it got much better. I also did a clean install by the way but I was still having the odd lag but I then did a compleat wipe again and installed the German version of lollipop and it is even better. Still way behind my ipad air 2 though.
On a down side the battery has taken a bit of a hit but maybe after a few charges it might get better. My first charge after the install got me 8 hours of screen on time at 9%
As a matter of interest how is the best way to go from lollipop to kitkat? I tried to between the two lollipop installs but it was stuck on the Samsung for ages so I just flashed the German one.
Well if i can root my T800 without tripping knox i will stay on kitkat until lollipop is sorted out, as i have had no problems with it at all in 7 months, I just need root so i can write to my microsd, I tried that kingroot both the apk and the pc version neither worked.
John.
WRETCHED, WRETCHED, WRETCHED! If you have the ability to stay on KitKat, do it. I don't know if it's Lollipop itself or the new rev of TouchWiz but since I was forced to update I can't stand this device. It's just a huge turd. Notifications on the lock screen: all or nothing. you can either have Google Now style notification cards or nothing. You can't just allow the notification panel to be visible on the lock screen (it is, but it doesn't show notification icons). SD card? Forget you ever had one. I don't know what everyone's talking about with "3rd-party apps can use the SD card now" but I can't even get a file browser to create a folder on the card. Forget about using it as a default storage location (no problem before the update). The new blinding-white color scheme is both hideous and obnoxious. I don't care how much battery it conserves on the new AMOLED display; its fugly and its harsh. Like turning your 4g radio on and off? Get ready to click through THREE LAYERS of menu to get to it, and forget about using Tasker (or any other app) to automate that. In fact, you should pretty much give up on Tasker (or similar) automation entirely unless you manage to root your device.
If i have auto update not checked in the settings in kitkat, will i still get an lollipop notification when it is eventually release for my uk t800 if it still has all the problems, I dont want any update messages that i cannot remove on my taskbar.

John, looking in the general section for a guide to rooting without tripping knox. I used it successfully on my SM-T800. Pay particular attention to the version of KitKat you require to get kingroot working in the OP. I suspect you are on a later version. Make sure to read the full guide and thread. Even though the guide gets you to Lollipop you can skip the last steps and remain on kitkat then disable updates in the settings.

Why don't your just refresh KitKat with Odin? The downgrade will not trip Knox assuming it is not already tripped for some other reason. Once flashed you immediately need to boot into recovery and wipe user data or you will go into a boot loop. The default in Odin is to boot the device once a flash is completed and that must be disabled.
I made that mistake and got stuck in a boot loop. It was tricky to use the key combination to reboot the immediately switch to the recovery key combo so I could wipe user data. For a few minutes I though I had bricked but all was well. I downgraded so I could root it hour tripping Knox following the guide in the general section. The first few steps in that guide and other posts in that thread may be of benefit if you choose to downgrade.

How? What guide did you use? It seems I need firmware specific to the t807a. Do yo know where I can find that?
Is the Samsung stock video player any different in lollipop, As in kitkat it does not support ac3 or dts when previous Samsung tablets did, saved some money on the licenses. :crying:

That's the guide I'm trying to use. Unfortunately, that website seems to have firmware for every variant of the T805 except the T807a. I'm hesitant to try it with firmware from a similar variant because I know there are subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) differences in the actual hardware.

I feel your caution is wise and I would not personally flash any ROM that was not specific to your devices model stock or custom. I feel your pain, hopefully someone will post a link to the firmware. Why Samsung does not do that itself like Google does for Nexus devices I have no idea.
I've found since the update my cell signal has dropped significantly, my wifi is dropping every 30 seconds or so and I'm getting frequent System UI crashes. I've done a wipe and reinstall but not much has changed. The System UI crashes are less but that's about it.
I was thinking of going back to KitKat as that seemed to work the best but there also looks to be some good roms out there like Carbon, CM12 or CM13 etc. I don't know much about this so would need some direction and advice concerning the best route to take.
I have rooted the phone so it has super user and TWRP installed as well. I've also downloaded a bunch of stuff like the LG flash tool, GAPPS (a couple different versions), and some roms (Euphoria 1.1 D852, CM13 Nightly D852, and Carbon 5.1.1 Unofficial D852) as they looked like they may be good options for me. Still haven't found a good KitKat option so if anyone could point me in a good direction there that would be great.
I've backed up my phone so I think I'm ready to go. Can I just use TWRP to install the roms or do I need to use the LG flash tool for anything?
Please help, I'd like to have a properly working phone again. Especially WiFi as I'm on vacation, hard to do much when it's dropping every 30 seconds or so.
Thanks for your time and help. I'm pretty much a newby so please take that into consideration. If it makes any difference I have the 16gb version that's unlocked. Currently with Fido though.
If I was you, I'd restore my phone with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
And I'd give a try to this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/rom-fulmics-rom-1-0-tweaks-ota-v20u-t3232340
with this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/kernel-xceed-t3222211
I'm running it on my device and I got no problem so far.
If you want to go back to kitkat, only use my first link!
Thanks for the links. I did download a .kdz file already. I had to enter my IMEI and then it supplied what I assume is the proper one for my phone. Although I can't remember now if that was Kitkat or something else haha. The link you sent me only had files linked to a carrier whereas mine is an unlocked phone that wasn't tied to anything. I don't know if that makes a big difference or not but I'd rather not use one from Rogers (as an example) if it's not necessary.
I appreciate the other links as well but I would have no clue how to use them, as I mentioned I'm a newbie so without direction I'd be lost. Plus being on vacation I'm hoping not to spend hours and hours researching this if I don't have to. Or at least more hours and hours than I've already spent.
Cheers and hopefully I can get some more opinions or recommendations.

My problem started some months ago, when a friend tried to root my phone, he told me that he rooted it but every app that checks for root told me that it wasn't rooted and i couldn't use apps that needed root also, the downside to all this is that i couldn't use apps that do not allow root, like the banking app, or Pokemon Go, but i used the phone like that for some months until last week when i decided to try and fix it. I thought that if i flash a stock firmware everything should be fine and the phone should be as new. On the phone, it says that the model is SM-N910F(behind the battery), in the settings it also said SM-N910F, so i tried flashing a rom for this model at first and it kept failing with me not knowing why. After trying different thing and googleing some time, i finally noticed that in "Fast Download", it says that the phone's model is SM-N910P, so i started searching about this, i didn;t understand why there were 2 different models on my phone, then i found out about searching my IMEI on imei.info, so i tried it and here it was SM-N910C, i had no idea what all this meant, but at this time i already got stuck into bootloop. Eventually, i found this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/help-sm-n910f-sm-n910p-bootloader-t3299285 and did what cam_bob22 said, it worked, i finally flashed the firmware on my phone and it worked, i could use the bank app, pokemon go, everything was fine except the fact that i couldn't select or change my mobile operator, when going to mobile networks, the mobile operators options was greyed out and couldn't be pressed(i want to mention that i did have service and that data worked but the internet would work only in roaming and i couldn't get 4G). So i tried updating the software from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 like it was said in the instructions and hopping that this update would fix the issue, but unfortunately for me after the update i somehow lost service completely, the signal sign was in the shape of a triangle with no bars, and the mobile operators setting was exactly as before.
So far i tried going back to 5.1.1 but besides the Hands Free activation that i can't make to go away, i still can't use the mobile operators setting and my data only works with roaming activated and doesn't get 4g. One thing that i forgot to mention is that the IMEI with the 5.1.1 firmware was of a samasung Galaxy S5 not a note 4, i checked it on imei.info.
I was wondering if there is any way for me to go back to the OS i had before my friend tried to root my phone, when it said in the settings that it was SM-N910F and everything worked as it should have.
Thank you for reading and i really hope someone can help me.

There is no way to go back unless he made a backup. Which is why you should always do this before you flash anything.
I'm not sure if this will help but you could try flashing a international custom Rom after you have correct firmware. But if your phone is a Sprint version, you'll have to use a special data fix and kernel.
What firmware did you end up using to flash? Was it Sprint? If so, and you use gsm service, try flashing my Gsm stock Rom for Sprint phones. It's in post 2.

You'll first need to be on current marshmallow firmware. So flash firmware with Odin first, then install Twrp with Odin. Then install Rom with Twrp.

Thank you for the reply, i wanted to say that with the Sprint firmware i used, after doing all the updates it unlocked the mobile operators option, but it couldn't find any.

No, the network operators is unlocked but there's still no service, when i try scanning for an operator it just stops with no message, and nothing happens.
I forgot to mention this, but before all this happened, I made a back-up of the phone with smart switch, is it possible to get back to how it was using that? And another thing is that when using the backup, it only restores music and photos, no contacts, no apps.(From what i've noticed so far)

You would have needed a system backup with twrp.
What country you in? What network you on? What firmware you on?

Ok. About the best advice i can give is, because your on pure Sprint Rom, something is messing up with csc or something.
All i can suggest, is maybe try updating to QC1 with Odin and then try flashing my gsm Rom. Which is essentially just a tmobile rom.
And if that don't give you the function you you need. Then maybe try an international Rom.
It's hard to say what the last person did to the phone.

Also. You stated your phone first showed as a 910f. So maybe flashing a international F rom, will provide the correct csc settings for your phone to work. Only problem your gonna have, is because it's Sprint hardware, you'll have to pair the Rom with a kernel that'll work and some lib files for data.
I can help you by putting together some files to flash. But the main question would be, Do you want a stock note 4 Rom?
Also before any of this happened, do you know what firmware you were on? Marshmallow? Lollipop?

I would really appreciate if you helped me put the files together cause i have no idea how any of this works, i'm new. But i wanted to ask, is there any chance for thia to brick my phone?
When it had sm-n910f on it i couldn't update it after 5.1.1, when i pressed update it wouldn't do anything.
And yes, if possible i would like it to be a stock firmware, but if it is not possible i don't mind using something else as long as it works properly.
Thank you for all your help, i don't know what i would do otherwise.

Well, first, let me state, about bricking device. I have to state that it's not impossible to brick. But after hundreds of flashes never had problem. These devices are hard to brick. What hard bricks a device is messing with boot loader and partitions that shouldn't be messed with, like trying to unlock lte bands. But just flashing roms is fine unless you flash a Rom not for your phone and it over writes wrong partition.
All snap Dragon note 4s have the same layout so all you need is correct kernel, csc, and some ril lib files to get data working.
Now, mine main worry is that the phone is still unlocked, because I don't know what possible changes were made to it.
But with all that being said,I'll move on. With another post.

Before we go too deep into this and upgrade and stuff. I'd like to just test a custom Rom on your phone and see what works.
So what firmware are you on right now?
5.01, 5.1.1, or 6.0.1?
I'm gonna take a guess and move on. You last stated you were on OG5 which it's 5.1.1. So if that's true, let's try the following.
First I'm gonna assume you already used Odin to flash that firmware. So now we need to flash Twrp. So download this on pc https://eu.dl.twrp.me/trlte/twrp-3.1.1-0-trlte.img.tar
1 . Put phone in download mode. Open Odin and plug in phone.
2. In Odin options make sure everything is unticked except Reset Flash Counter.
3. Now click on AP and select the Twrp file.
4. Flash it. Let it flash until it states it's completed. Once done. Unplug phone. Pull out battery. Put back in and boot to recovery by holding power+home+vol.up
5. Now you should have Twrp. Just reboot phone so we can continue to next post.

Ok, here you go. If your where we left off, you should be on stock QC1 and have Twrp installed.
Just download this file, boot into recovery, and install. This file will delete dalvick/cache, so phone will take a few minutes to boot up.
I actually recommend before flashing, you do a factory reset in recovery then install.
Anyhow here you go. Let me know if it fixes what your looking for. If not, my only others option is to install a custom n910f Rom. I'll gladly walk you through if need be. But try this first.

Alright so i just tried it and when starting my phone, i can't even set it up because i keep getting a message that com.android.phone has stopped. After about half an hour of trying to start it, i finally managed to get to setting and to app manager, there i looked for com.android.phone and it was nowhere to be found. Apart from this i noticed a N with some signal bars where my phone signal should've been and i didn;t get the hands free activation anymore, but that's all...
