So, for a previous OTA update on 4.4 KitKat that brought some bug fixes, I could simply do a temporary unroot and use OTA survival mode with Superuser/SuperSU.
Now, with this new OTA that updates the OS to Lollipop, none of that seems to work. It always detects that the device is rooted and I don't know how.
So, does anyone have any idea how to apply this Lollipop OTA with a rooted device? How to avoid OTA rooted phone detection?
The last resort is to either use SuperSU to unroot fully or flash a fresh stock ROM... and none of those are satisfying.
Thanks in advance!
It's more than obvious that you need to flash a stock rom for OTA to function properly.

Well, you can play around with RCT, there are guides on resetting that.
Though it's not gonna work, such a big upgrade will break root regardless of ota survival mode or whatever. Or you will get a bootloop...
Do it the right way. Install TWRP, then install rooted LL rom.

Hi! I'm in South Korea and I had the exact same issue on KK.. I always used to flash the stock and then update KK... HOWEVER .....I didn't receive OTA update on Lollipop. I connected my phone to LG PC Suite and the phone updated from there.. and I didn't have to unroot. Have you tried connecting your phone to LG PC Suite and update from there? Good luck
IMO.. Lollipop sucks! I went back to KK after trying Lollipop for a few days.
I have a lg g3 (verizon) with 5.0.1 rooted. Is it safe to update to 5.1.1? Has anyone tried? I want to but im afraid it'll break my root completely or my phone will brick. I can't lose my root because ill lose a lot of features. So if someone has tried or is willing to try that'd be awesome!
Same boat. I'll be watching this for an answer.

Reflash stock recovery and you should be fine
OTA usually removes root. You can reroot it after you install the OTA
No update for the d855 or other versions ?!

I have the Verizon G3 with 5.01. The 35B OTA wouldn't even install until I restored the factory image.

Well I recommend a clean TOT or KDZ flash. Hope this will fix your problem. Please do follow this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2785089 to flash TOT or KDZ then update via OTA. Thanks!
DO NOT TAKE THE UPDATE
...if you want root, etc. Currently there is no way to root 35b and no way to roll back to an earlier version. They patched some things up it seems.
Some brave souls took the update and are stuck now... http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-5-1-1-ota-t3220693/post63200915#post63200915
Freeze with tibu (or delete) the system update apk to stop the notification.

I just update my rooted 5.0.1 VS985 to 5.1.1, gotta say , this new system is more battery save. i turn on the music and LG health and mobile data when i took exercise tonight for about 2 hours, and it's only cost 3% of the battery.and you know, lots of useless Verizon apps and others, but it's fine, i can disable it in app manager.
Yea I noticed that with this new update as well.
I'm little sour about being in un-rooted state.
But the battery life is noticeably better.
Maybe this option was there but I noticed new options under the developer setting where you can restrict amount of background apps running. I believe this helps out a lot as well.
Just an update on the update...
On vs985 it looks like someone was able to successfully TOT back from the 35B update, so people shouldn't be stuck anymore if they took the OTA(see post 84 here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...ing-takethe-vs98535b-5-1-1-ota-t3220693/page9). Root is still not available for people who took the 35B OTA yet, but there are 2 stock based rooted 35B ROMs available now: Jasmine and Skydragon. I think the only thing that isn't functional is advanced calling because we can only use the 24b modem with the 35b ROM due to the 12b bootloaders we have that allow us to have TWRP...or something like that. So it'll be a 35b ROM and all it's updated glory - running a 24b modem.
I have a stock software on my Verizon LG G4 which is on Non-Verizon network.
What is the best way to update it without losing all my existing app and setting? OTA wont work since I am not on the Verizon network
I loaded the SUA on my computer and it does not have the new update.
Do you think LG Bridge would help?
I just need the update, no fancy rooting or anything like that.
Your help is appreciated.
Ok
please download the KDZ file here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/general/kdz-download-kdz-24c-official-lg-servers-t3317412
and then you update the software using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/h...mm-lp-t3249803
make sure to choose update option instead of refurbish.
Hi all.
I bought a used LG G3, where the guy said this phone had been used to pass around reviewers, so I don't know if this has any factor as to why I'm having issues.
So, issue is, I'm on 4.4.2 atm, and want to upgrade to at least 5, and possibly 6 if this is possible (which it seems to be from what I've seen around the web.) I tried to do it via the phone first, through the built-in update center (current version is V10g-EUR-XX) It sees there is an update for the phone, which I then select to download and install. It then tells me it will download it, and shows the object under my notifications. But then it simply says Cannot download, and just stalls at this point. I've tried both options with wifi only, and over 2g/3g as well.
(At this point I added some screenshots I took, but can't add them, as external links are not allowed for the first 10 posts)
I then tried to go through the LG PC suite, installed the USB drivers etc. When checking for updates, it simply says "Cannot Proceed Upgrade. LG PC Suite upgrades unavailable on this phone."
Where do I go from here? Can I manually update it through the flashtool 2014, or am I looking at rooting this phone, to get be able to upgrade it?
In advance, thank you for your help.
Best Regards,
Dozer.

Can I upgrade directly from 4.4.2 to 6.0? When I was searching the net, I found a website that said I needed to have updated to latest lollipop, before going to marshmellow.

Okay thank you. Can you link me to the correct kdz for lollipop? I'm in northern europe. Didn't seem to be able to find it on your first link to the Marshmellow kdz's.
After bricking my first tablet, I learned that the boot loader is locked and that the factory Rom is not available for this device (and a lot of AT&T devices). It was replaced luckily but now I face a different set of issues. The update to Marshmallow is available but I cannot update it no matter what I do. Obviously I am worried about tinkering too much because of the possibility of bricking it again. Yes it is rooted, and that's why it refuses to update.
Would it be wise to try to mask the root with an xposed module, since I can't seem to fully remove the root itself?
good luck getting any answers on this device. If been asking about downgrading from 6.0 so I can get root. No helpful information for the ATT variant.
I can't find any updated when I try for this device. How did you go about getting a replacement ?
I would be fine with a rom image to install and a root. But I want my 6.0 that I am deserving
You can't retain root if you're going from Android 5x to android 6x because of the changes to ART. Maybe one day some crafty dev will figure out how to root an AT&T 6x device with a locked bootloader but unfortunately that day isn't today.
If you are looking to root and customize your device then stay off of att.

I have an LG Gpad X 10.1 v930 (AT&T) which I am unable to update to Marshmallow via OTA Update. I haven't rooted my device, yet I am not able to receive the update via OTA. Is there any other way I can update to Marshmallow? I tried to use LG Bridge but it keep giving me message "Cannot check software version".
I just recently got the v930 from AT&T, and I've tried Kingroot, but it did not work. It came with MM already installed, and I can't find very much information on this tablet. So If you want root, then it's probably best not to upgrade.

My tablet originally had an ATT sim card so I borrowed an ATT sim card, checked again for update through settings. Connected to the ATT server and got the update.

Put in an ATT sim card so you can connect to their server for the update.
