Camera Issue - corrupted photos - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my Zenfone 2 yesterday. I have been pretty impressed with it. However, I was taking some sample photos and after a few successful shots, ever preceding shot became corrupt. They looked all weird, like a really bad filter was applied and there were vertical lines going through them.
Thinking it might be my SD card, I switched to internal storage. Same result. I cleared cache and force stopped the camera. Same results. I finally restarted and everything is back to normal, but I'm sure it'll happen again. There's no way an issue like this is isolated.
Has anyone else seen this? I am rooted on the latest WW firmware. (.13). It was a clean flash right out of the box.

There are several helpful tips regarding basic troubleshooting techniques including camera troubleshooting in a pre-installed ASUS app called 'ASUS Support'

Yup. I'm on official firmware. Very new phone.. just 1 month.
It's quite eaye to reproduce this visual artifacts corruption on photos, just use HDR under low light and using 16:9.
It ruins many of my pictures.

[Q] Rear Camera snapshop delay problem

Greetings,
My T-mobile Note 3 has a problem with the Rear Camera problem. I have to hold the camera on the subject about 2 seconds after the shutter sound, to wait for the line in the processing pop up window has scrolled across the screen. If i move the Note 3 before this is done the image is blurred or complelely lost off the picture. The image stabilizeation feature is on. The unit currently has Kit Kat (ver 4.4.2). Is there a setting I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been noticing this issue as well, mainly after the update to 4.4. Prior to the update, i could move the phone when the processing pops up and it still had the right picture. I reduced the resolution down to 6MP wide and it still has the same problem.
Only way I found to fix the issue was to turn off the smart stabilization feature. I don't see a use for this feature right now as I am able to hold the phone steady enough.

Thanks for the advice.
I shut off image stabilization, same as you and the problem is no longer there. Thank you for your suggesting. I hope this issue will be addressed in a future update from Samsung.

Update:
I chatted with a Samsung tech support online in regards to this issue. The problem seems to have been addressed by going into the camera app and clearing the cache and Data (Settings -> General [top tab] -> Application manager -> Camera). I don't know if this is a permanent solution (I doubt it), but it addresses the immediate problem. Fortunately, it seems that the pictures taken using the camera are still intact. :good: Once again, I hope Samsung will supply an update to address this issue.

No Dice....I cleared the data and cache and tried taking a picture with the stabilization on. After I clicked the camera icon and once the processing info popped up, I moved the phone. The recorded picture was not the one that i was focusing on when i clicked.
And I thought it was just me and my phone. I've not been to happy with the camera on the 3 because of this and I'm rooted so I didn't feel like unrooting to take it back and try another phone. I still use Samsung camera for video recording. (Smooth video by the way is like no other that I've seen, even on real camera's.) I downloaded Google camera from phonearena and it works fine for pictures, Samsungs is fine to as long as you don't move but I'll keep Googles. http://click.xda-developers.com/api....4) - xda-developers&txt=http://goo.gl/VEBuiq

Issues with focusing the camera

I just got this phone 2 weeks ago (this Wednesday) and I noticed this issue right from the start. But then it started working fine and now it's not working again tonight.
Basically when I open the camera app, it will not focus on anything other than extremely up close. No matter where I tap, it's all blurry outside of like 3-4 inches from the camera.
I did some searching and found a link on androidcentral but nothing stating for sure if this issue has been fully resolved now. Clearly it hasn't for mine. Has anyone experienced this and found an actual fix or do I need to swap this out with the hope that it doesn't happen again? Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, I searched for 'focus' so if there's a thread already about this that I didn't see, please direct me there and close this up!
Thanks!
My gf got a note 4 (white) abt a week ago. And she coulnbt take pictures at all initially because it wouldnt focus on anything. (Never tried macro type pic to see if would focus on something close)
She ended up handing it to me to figure out and after i changed picture modes. And switched back to auto then the issue resolved itself and hasnt returned.
Fwiw my note 4 (black, purchased 10-16-14) never had this issue.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
Oddly enough I think I'm having the same issue. Just got my Note 4 a few days ago, and I've found that when I launch the camera app, it either doesn't focus at all, or takes extra long to get into focus. I can see the little target image progress as it tries to focus, but it just keeps trying and fails. Every once in a while though, it will correctly focus. So the camera certainly is capable of properly focusing, but I'm not sure if its a software thing (my first conclusion) or a hardware thing (probably not).
same here
same issue i noticed if you put your hand up to the lense then slowly remove it and point it somewhere in the distance it will focus
im gonna try that solution though thank you!
Same issue hereon my wife's phone. Noticed it from day 1 but wasn't able to go back to the att store until day 17 after purchase. They would not budge on swapping the device since I was past 14 days. My only option is a warranty replacement, but I will hold out for now to see if a software update fixes the issue as I would rather not have a refurbished device. A quick shake of the device and it focuses. If you exit the camera app after it initially focuses and go back to the app it works fine. It only seems to be an issue when the camera app is not used for a while.
Its weird because I use another camera app (like the Google Camera one) and it will focus just fine, but the default Samsung-installed Camera app will sometimes fail to focus or sometimes will work just fine. So it seems like it may be a software issue.

started working slow yesterday then today just completely crashed,
cleared cache, reinstalled the app, updated, restarted the device. right now its not crashing, it just takes forever to take a pic. I keep thinking its a RAM issue. But i didn't have these problems when i just bought the device

I just had Google send me a new pixel 3 xl - for one my phones suffers huge memory management issues also the new camera update screwed my device up. Camera app launches then does not launch lens so it is black, snapchat will not work as well- $1000 I should not have this many issues. I have never had any of these issues with my pixel 2 xl

yeah! i actually did a factory reset hoping this would fix it, but nope. It is the worst experience i had so far with a google phone. i will just ask to return it and get my refund, its a 1000 euro device that can't take a picture.
I am back to my Pixel 2 XL - my Pixel 3 Xl phone is unbearable.
it is horrible! they are making it a hassle just for the warranty replacement! Google is ridiculous. ill never have another pixel again
I just got my replacement today - as of now no issues

I've never had an issue with it. They do what pretty much everyone does. Make sure you have a hardware problem, then if it is they send you a replacement.
I decided to return it. Running with 6t now

Camera App Issues

Hello all, i noticed this about a week ago,
I open camera app, and the viewfinder shows a lot of stuttering, the lower the light (not night sight and not night time photos, day time) the more it struggles to instantly snap the photo.
And throughout all this, lag, stuttering and what appears to be the app having difficulty just keeping up with displaying the viewfinder objects accurately.
Anyone else having this problem?
I noticed it after i dirty flashed Dec update. but then i did a full wipe and clean install of the dec update.
Still on going
thanks!
Edit:
I've cleared data, uninstalled updates, reinstalled updates, disabled all substratum themes, nothing seems to make it better
Mine does the same thing. Stock December, rooted with magisk.

Oh my God well I'm happy I'm not the only one but I'm unhappy about it because the camera is really jittery now
Mine doesn't do it all of the time, it randomly does it. Does yours do it all of the time?

Just guessing but might be a HW issue. Perhaps there's a problem with the lens movement when trying to focus. You could try a different camera app to see if that makes a difference. Have you contacted Google support?

Not a HW issue as this happened after Dec update.
No, I don't talk to google unless it's about a replacement, their techs are tier 1 idiots, they ain't gonna tell me more than what I know at this stage, and we don't get to talk to the people that know more than us.
Edit:
Can more people chime in and confirm if this behavior is happening w\them ?

Mine did this a couple of times since the update too. It only happens when I first open the camera app but not all the time. It happened yesterday but I can't get it to do it since then.

Yep, can confirm it happens when I first open the app too, but also happens when I move the phone a lot and the view finder just struggles to maintain a steady image through the movement

Google probably messed with the ISO to improve the image quality. I don't get it often and my photos come out clear so it's not a huge deal for me. It's still a big improvement from the Note 9 I had anyway.

I know image quality is good but the UI behavior is something of concern. The user shouldn't be exposed to the lag like that. Drives me nuts
I have been travelling and this phone is the worst I have used for taking photos while moving, I missed so many photos since the camera would not respond to click, then ended up taking a photos a few seconds later. Annoyed me so much tried to turn off motion, but it seems you can't and I believe this is the main problem, my wife uses a Pixel phone as well Pixel XL and she did not have the same problem with the camera app at all, same OS update level and the new camera updated app. Once it has taken one shot with lag, then the following are quick and almost instant.

I have no problems taking photos of things in motion , just a slight hesitation when I first open the app for the first time. As I said before my Note 9 had problems with objects in motion, not so with this camera for me. You can turn off motion photo by tapping the motion icon in the photo app.

Disable HDR enhanced and then you will be able to turn off motion. After that you can turn on HDR again.

literally have experienced this exactly, not every single time, but def post Dec update.
It's strange there is no consistency to this experience

You are right... I miss my Pixel 2 XL already, except for the screen. A much better phone, and the most amazing battery I have experienced... Pixel 3 XL just killed all my hype with the Pixel Line.
Update:
I flashed one of the roms and it had me bootlooping so i did another flashall, this time all i did was root, i didn't flash any kernel.
Stock rom, + Magisk, and issue is no longer present.
This MAKES NO SENSE.

Question Inverted images from Pixel 6 Pro cameras

All of the images taken today shows inverted (upside down).
I am not even able to troubleshoot as I even went as far as factory resetting the device. The camera app losing it was only observed today but then again, I have not take any photos in a few days, all the previous ones were great.
Anyone else facing this issue? I have contacted support but they don't seem to have an answer, so I am guessing this is n ew issue.
Some posts on Reddit are saying the accelerometer and or gyroscope sensors are broken.
Every photo taken on pixel 6 is upside down. - Google Photos Community
The last comment from your linked Community thread
"Bought Pixel 6 today, taken photos was fine.
The phone fell to the floor from a small height, after which the accelerometer stuck — the photos are turned over after shooting and autorotation in applications does not work.
After that I found this post...
So I put a protective case on the phone, hit the back of the chair on the opposite side of the buttons, not very hard, but not weakly — and it worked. Accelerometer now fine, photos properly rotated."
