I had my Nexus in my bag with my Graphing calculator(wont do that again) and the calculator managed to get pressed into the nexus hard enough to crack the screen and damage the digitizer. I still have use of the lower half of the screen, but not the upper. I use my nexus to read on, and would like to still be able to read until i get the glass and digitizer. unfortunately my passcode requires the number 1. The number 1,2 and everything above them does not work. Is there any way to unlock it without completely clearing it? PS it is on CM 12(i think but definitely a CyanogenMod build)
If you have a usb otg cable try plugging in a mouse.

That might work, but I wasn't sure if Android unlocking would work from a keyboard. Using a mouse with an Android device works surprisingly well: you just connect it and a mouse cursor appears on the screen.

Yes, A mouse and keyboard will work, but I am wondering if it is possible to mend the digitizer after a small crack and let the screen function normally.

Hi there.I don´t know if this post goes here.Sorry if it doesn´t.I didn´t know where to put it
I was changing the digitizer on my Desire HD and I realize that that I broke the ribbon on the picture. Can anyone help me about what to do?Thanks in advance.
Sadly been there and done that....Only 1 solution-buy another. This process is next to impossible without lots of experience-parts are very fragile! Your best bet is to buy an entire assembly with the digitizer and lcd already attached. Much much easier, but not easy by any means still. Good luck.

Hi again.I change the screen but now the wifi won´t work.I can´t activate the wifi.It says error. It´s like i don´t have a wifi antenna.Any help?
wifi antenna
I think your problem is bigger than an antenna. The antenna is the same one as the gps antenna and is fitted in the panel around the flash leds. If you were to enable the wifi and just could not pick up any access points, then I would say it was your antenna, but if you are receiving an error, it is more likely that either the wifi module is damaged or somehow disconnected.
Do the rest of the radio parts work? i.e. GPS, Cell, bluetooth? Can you tell me exactly what the error is that you are receiving?

The cell,3g and gps are working fine.Bluetooh and wifi aren´t.When I activate the wifi I get an error message(it just shows "error").When I try to activate the bluetooth it just does nothing.
Thank you

not much, but it is simple test for the flex ribbon.
open the phone and check the flex connection too motherboard
worst possible thing is that you ripped the flex ribbon during removal from middle chassis
2 areas worth checking-the reciever jack at the top of the phone CAN be put on in the wrong direction-red wire should be towards the top of the phone, black towards the bottom. The long, all black wire running by the camera is the bluetooth coaxial cable and maybe not on its connector properly-kind of pops on when right-check both ends. It also could be damaged/pinched running up through the phone. It could also just be a bad component on the upper board and that whole board needs replacing-a pain after what you've done already.
bluetooth/wifi and volume buttons not working
I think yamFZ6 is right. You likely have a cable not fully seated or a damaged cable. Both the Bluetooth and wifi are on the same chip so it makes sense that both of them would fail together, the volume buttons are a separate module, so they are likely all on a single cable that has issues.
One last thing to try before tearing it apart again, do a full wipe and see if it works properly. This is a long shot, but worth checking and can help with troubleshooting if you cannot find any cable issues.
Good luck,
Let us know what you find.

Looks like the black wire (blue tooth coaxial) near the camera is in toward the battery area too far...battery would be pushing in on it every time and could have broken it...admit that's a long shot...but. Starting to feel like a new "upper" circuit board is in order...hope this helps

Do you know where to buy it?
I have seen it for sale somewhere out there but can't find out where that was now. I would look for a "parts" phone on ebay. usually you get more than a fair amount of usable other parts with it. I just did this for that exact issue plus I needed a 'mid frame'. I got just about everything else with it also as the lower, main board was the problem with that particular phone, Got a usable digitizer, lcd, case, extra wires, camera etc etc all for around $60. You also get the added luxury of more practice/expertise with assembly.

Hi guys i have a problem
I can access different function through the MANUAL KEYS like settings, wireless , sound , display, and all the programs, but digitizer itself seems to be frozen. So i was wondering what is most common problem for that i presume flex cable or digitizer but digitizer is in good condition so what can it be ?
So cable 1 or 2?

2.http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Replace...363534?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item1c299ee54e
I had damaged flex cable, and touch screen was still working, but screen was showing TV static all the time.

Second one is analog touch cable.
To me digitizer doesnt work but analog works ?Which cable is that?
anyone?
whenever I slide out my gamepad my phone does not change the screen mode from portrait to landscape, neither does the xperia play launcher starts or the screen gets unlocked.
sometimes the screen automatically changes the screen mode from portrait to landscape as if the gamepad has been slid out when it isn't.
also games like PES 2012 don't detect the gamepad anymore used to work earlier.
what is the exact problem?
I asked a local mobile repair shop and he says strip of slider (flex cable) must be changed but it isn't available anywhere in my area. if this is correct then I may order the flex cable online.
what do you guys have to say?
To the OP:
My replacement glass+digitizer didn't have adhesive behind the connector like the original so every time the phone would take a hit the screen would go blank. I'd have to take it all apart and reseat the connector. Sometimes the cable that connects to it would twist out a little bit on its own during reassembly and I'd have to do it again. Not I use precisely cut tape or hot glue when I do one (careful of the slide rails). Though my problem usually manifested as a blank screen, twice it manifested as an unresponsive digitizer.
I'd check my connection first.

I responded to your PM. Yes, all the parts involved are available online. The slide board has two metal fingers inside a rail/slot that the bracket joining the two halves slides in. I don't know what the second one is for because all functions seem to react to the first one making or breaking a connection, but it could be causing the problem just as easily. These springy conductive fingers connect through the same flex cable as the switches that the face buttons press (Back, Home, Menu, Search) using some kind of conductive adhesive backing. That part is only a few bucks online, so it may be worth replacing just that to see. Unfortunately, the slider assembly is expensive (at least $20) but the slider + earpiece/camera + slide cable + switches is a comparative value at only a few bucks more.
Recently, I disassembled my Sony Ericsson Xperia Play R800at. I was replacing the housing and digitizer. All went smoothly until I missed an important step. There was a black tab that holds down the flex cable that connects to the digitizer. I forgot that step and my flex cable ripped.I have ordered another as a replacement. I understand that this will cause the digitizer to not work, but I have more issues, and I want to know if they are due to the missing cable.(the ripped flex cable.) I assembled the phone and the screen functions normally. As to be expected, I can't interact with the screen. However, Now my search button and settings buttons aren't functioning. My home and back buttons are working although. Also, My phone will not charge anymore. Is this due to the missing flex cable? I hope I didn't accidentally screw anything up. I was really careful, so I don't know why they won't function. I really hope that these issues are due to the missing cable. :silly:
Sorry, I am not allowed to post links. It has the camera and earpiece on it and is attached to the slider. :"(
How. Could u miss a step itsm really easy to take apart and put together its the flex cable garunteed

Tutorials
Most of the tutorials seem to be only of disassembly. Little to none are of reassembly. I wrote down a list and reversed the order, but as it got closer to assembly, I started to assemble it myself. Big mistake. I assumed the black tab was only there to hide the chips.
Charge Recognition
It actually can charge, but only when the phone is powered of. This must be due to the missing components. Maybe because some parts of the phone aren't connected, the phone will not recognize the charger when powered on. What a relief...
Just watch dissassembly in reverse

I got the replacement part. I even replaced the slider. I transferred the button cable to the new slider along with the main flex cable and the camera/earpiece flex cable. I am confused. I am inserting the flex cable into the digitizer slot, but it isn't working. I assumed there was a lock mechanism of some sort, but still no luck. I am not sure why it isn't going all the way in. Reversing the steps just isn't working. Placing the flex cable in is way harder than taking it out. Is there a certain way to place this cable in. What I am in need of is a picture of how a functioning digitizer's attachments look. Are you supposed to be able to see the golden tip of the flex cable?(Again, I am speaking of the flex cable with the black tab covering it. It is very small.)
:crying:
Lock.
There were locks for just aboul all the ZIF Connectors. Sony Ericsson's manual is the best!:good:
I tried again using the locks on the slots but it still wont work. Even with the manual, no luck... Now, it is charging normally, even while on. This indicates that something has changed. I wonder why the digitizer isn't working though. Maybe I should see what happens If I revert back to my old digitizer...
Hi all,
I am on vacation and got bumped into, causing me to drop my less than a week old TMo G3 after I ordered my screen protector and case. Lovely, right? Well it caused a nice giant crack in the screen and the LCD to become unresponsive. I pulled the battery and restarted, and it told me my LCD was damaged and said to use volume and power now as manual controls. Only issue with that is I have knock code on, so I cant get into the system at all.
Luckily I am rooted, and have TWRP installed. I also have titanium. I would love to get a backup of my apps somehow (I had not made a backup yet, silly me) or better yet a nandroid if somehow possible to simply restore when I get my replacement (Tried to use power keys to boot into recover, wouldn't even turn off though). I have my SD in to hold my other files, luckily.
I am on a mac and can set up/execute adb if needed.
I really appreciate any help you can give, thanks so much everyone.
Fun Fact- My G3 didn't survive a 1.5ft fall
UPDATE: I will be trying to do the OTG mouse method, but another method is preffered so I dont have to buy anything and can do my backups more immediately.
UPDATE 2: Scratch everything, USB port appears to be broken. Cant get it to charge or recognize on my computer.
Mine was 4 days old when it fell and cracked the screen. If you have an OTG cable plug it in and plug in a USB mouse. You will be able to control the phone with the mouse.

I'd say that's doubtful with the screen being unresponsive. If it's anything like mine was it wouldn't recognize any touch input anywhere. USB mice are dirt cheap. Buy the cheapest one you can find at Wal-Mart, Target, etc.

Hey. I have a simular problem. I busted my screen, no root. OTG way does work though...but what now? I'm not rooted neither
Hi, I have a stock S3 that I no longer use because I dropped it and the screen went black. There are no cracks in the glass but the phone still powers on and the buttons on the bottom still light up and it makes noises. I now have an S7 so I don't have the s3 activated anymore but it still has the original sim card in it (not sure if that matters). I had a bunch of photos that I had saved on the phone itself and not on the microsd card and I am wanting to retrieve those photos if at all possible. I have spent a few hours reading different ways to do this but I figured I would ask those with more experience. When I plug my phone into my computer it shows up but it says there are no files on it when I try to access it so I am assuming that the usb debugging is turned off. I never activated samsung kies so I am without that option. Do I have to buy an MHL adapter so I can plug my phone into my TV so I can see the screen and also plug a mouse into it at the same time so I can unlock it and navigate to usb debugging options? Are there any other easy options? Thank you for any help
If you enabled the lock screen option and you are not unlocking the phone before connecting it to the computer, this may be why you cannot see any files.
Yes, I have the screen locked with a simple drawing pattern. I guess I could try and blindly draw that pattern with a mouse hooked to the phone and see if that works.
I tried for a while to get the phone unlocked with the mouse hooked up to it. I can feel the vibrations when i go over one of the little buttons while im drawing the pattern but it is just too difficult to really tell where the mouse pointer is. So I think im going to get a mhl adapter so I can hook it up to my TV or monitor and give that a go
You are on the right track. I had the same problem. The LCD was broken but the digitizer was still working along with the rest of the phone. If you killed the digitizer also, a bluetooth mouse does the job.
How exactly did you manage to fix yours? Did you blindly draw the unlock pattern or did you hook it up to a monitor of some sort so you could see what youre doing? Im thinking of buying something this adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y8O8FK..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0CY61YQCJ4GWRM2GE3VH. Would that work?

Exactly. Just as you said in your opening remark a MHL cable did the trick for me. I then used a bluetooth mouse to navigate as it was easier and safer due to broken glass (even though my digitizer was still working). When you hook it up you will see if the digitizer is still working (separate from the lcd which more likely is gone) when you touch the screen. From my experience the LCD goes bad from dropping but the digitizer is usually still working. I did not have to remove data from the phone but simply had to a reset to stock.
After that I replaced the LCD panel and the phone worked just fine.
