[Q] Problem changing digitizer - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there.I don´t know if this post goes here.Sorry if it doesn´t.I didn´t know where to put it
I was changing the digitizer on my Desire HD and I realize that that I broke the ribbon on the picture. Can anyone help me about what to do?Thanks in advance.

Sadly been there and done that....Only 1 solution-buy another. This process is next to impossible without lots of experience-parts are very fragile! Your best bet is to buy an entire assembly with the digitizer and lcd already attached. Much much easier, but not easy by any means still. Good luck.

(can't post direct link)

this you can't fix because the lines are simply too small
(I'm waiting for new LCD)

A bit complicated for me.I will buy another lcd. Thanks anyway.

Hi again.I change the screen but now the wifi won´t work.I can´t activate the wifi.It says error. It´s like i don´t have a wifi antenna.Any help?

wifi antenna
I think your problem is bigger than an antenna. The antenna is the same one as the gps antenna and is fitted in the panel around the flash leds. If you were to enable the wifi and just could not pick up any access points, then I would say it was your antenna, but if you are receiving an error, it is more likely that either the wifi module is damaged or somehow disconnected.
Do the rest of the radio parts work? i.e. GPS, Cell, bluetooth? Can you tell me exactly what the error is that you are receiving?

The cell,3g and gps are working fine.Bluetooh and wifi aren´t.When I activate the wifi I get an error message(it just shows "error").When I try to activate the bluetooth it just does nothing.
Thank you

not much, but it is simple test for the flex ribbon.
open the phone and check the flex connection too motherboard
worst possible thing is that you ripped the flex ribbon during removal from middle chassis

2 areas worth checking-the reciever jack at the top of the phone CAN be put on in the wrong direction-red wire should be towards the top of the phone, black towards the bottom. The long, all black wire running by the camera is the bluetooth coaxial cable and maybe not on its connector properly-kind of pops on when right-check both ends. It also could be damaged/pinched running up through the phone. It could also just be a bad component on the upper board and that whole board needs replacing-a pain after what you've done already.

bluetooth/wifi and volume buttons not working
I think yamFZ6 is right. You likely have a cable not fully seated or a damaged cable. Both the Bluetooth and wifi are on the same chip so it makes sense that both of them would fail together, the volume buttons are a separate module, so they are likely all on a single cable that has issues.
One last thing to try before tearing it apart again, do a full wipe and see if it works properly. This is a long shot, but worth checking and can help with troubleshooting if you cannot find any cable issues.
Good luck,
Let us know what you find.

Looks like the black wire (blue tooth coaxial) near the camera is in toward the battery area too far...battery would be pushing in on it every time and could have broken it...admit that's a long shot...but. Starting to feel like a new "upper" circuit board is in order...hope this helps

Do you know where to buy it?

I have seen it for sale somewhere out there but can't find out where that was now. I would look for a "parts" phone on ebay. usually you get more than a fair amount of usable other parts with it. I just did this for that exact issue plus I needed a 'mid frame'. I got just about everything else with it also as the lower, main board was the problem with that particular phone, Got a usable digitizer, lcd, case, extra wires, camera etc etc all for around $60. You also get the added luxury of more practice/expertise with assembly.

UNIVERSAL : need a Coaxial Cable Pre-assy replacement

Hello
I am new on this forum, sorry if this type of question has alreday been answered.
I've got a UNIVERSAL/ SPV M500 and the Coaxial Cable (linking the screen and the keyboard) has been twisted and is damaged.
Where can I find/buy a spare part to replace it ? the reference number is 73H00233-01M (Coaxial Cable Pre-assembly) as indicated in the service manual.
Thank for your help.
Hey,
If you find it let me know, I need one two. Actually these are two cables the Coaxial (Display) and Coaxial (Functional). My screen goes white in landscape mode and I confirmed it's the cable by disassembling my machine. However was unable to find that cable Will let you know if I find it.
Me too.
I am getting odd touch screen errors and think it can only be the cable.
If anyone knows of a supplier, please post here.
Has anyone tried contacting HTC directly?
I've tried HTC europe , they forwarded me to the local repair centre. this one do not sell spare parts without repairing the item.
I'm trying to contact various shops . I'll let you know if it is successful

I have been having the same problems as you guys. my uni have been getting "white screen of death" for about 6 months now.
I am going to take out the cable and try and fix it myself. (fingers crossed)
I will let you all know how it goes. I felt £60 plus vat and postage was a bit steep.
coax cable
Fixed it!!
I took apart my uni down to the last screw, and rebuilt it.
In the process I did find that i am missing an antenna in the back, it should have 3 but only has 2. oh well it works.
The 3rd antenna is for 3g and i am not on 3.
Anyway back to my uni.
The coax conectors where a little lose, so after a good clean in a solven cleaner and popped back in to the conector holder, after playing for 20 mins I found that they poped back out verry slightly, just enough to make the screen go white and not function.
So the solution is to make sure it does'nt come back out.
ok.
well I have as a tempery solution put a tiny bit of foam on top of the connecter and held it in place with a bit of tape.
If this works for longer than a month then i will solder the cable down.
Touch wood it seems to be working. I will try and get some photos done tonight

Hi,

Because of the Job I do, I have an earthing band to connect the phone and me to the wall, and put the phone on an anti static table cover. All is good so far. I am looking at Feb to solder (as i have some leave in). There will be detailed photos and description.
Untill then........
Just found a coax on e-bay
Hi I hope anyone who is after this coax cable can read this before the weekend is out, as there is one on e-bay for £40 this is the link.

Good done man go ahaed, and plz try to post the photos.
Another question, my universal some times lost its external speaker sound, so i cannot hear the rings, when i press on the back of the device, exactly on the battery cover in the middle between the two dummy holes and the usb port, it works again. Do u think that this is due to the coaxial damage also, even i don'y have any problem in the screen??

I have disassembled my uni and checked for all connections, but there was no improvement. I can confirm that the disappearance of external speakers sound is not due to co-axial cable. The proof is that i extracted my main borad from my uni and implanted it in another one, i assumed that the problem will be rsolved, but the same problem still exists. Ok, now i can disassemble my uni for smallest piece, but any one advise me where is th connection part or the piece that causes that problem. Again a brief description of the problem:
when there is a coming call, i cannot here the ring or it is sevrely intermitent, also when i play any WMP file, i cannot here the sound, if I press firmly on the base or around the keyboard the sound comes again and may last for a few minutes or disappear after another press. So, there is a lose part in the main board i think that needs fixation, but which one????
Hi all
Now it takes me more than a month to upgrade my JASJAR due to a lot of problems I faced during this upgrading adventure… anyway, the last problem I still have is that after upgrading the screen goes crazy, I mean if you press on the screen the colours are mixed for few seconds and then its ok but at any time I touch the screen again the same happened so you can imagine what if I am going to dial a number or write a message …. So can anyone advice me what to do? …
The rom version is 1.13.82
Radio 1.04.02
Extrom 1.13.188
And I think the bootloader 1.00 and I don’t know why I feel that the bootloader is the reason ... I made a deep search but I couldn’t find problem like mine

Sitting next to my M5000 and all of a sudden the screen turned on but was white!
Following your lead I found that the first i.e. 'underneath' connector was not fully home. A little push and all is well.
Took the time to pack out the housing for the stylus to stop the little blighter escaping whilst in there.
Thank you for taking the time to post gingerchristopher.

Where is GPS antenna

I accidentally bricked my new Rhod500 and bought heavy-used Rhod210 on eBay for parts. I replaced the motherboard, but the problem was with antenna pins, that are slightly different. I soldered wire (2) instead of one antenna and adjusted pins for second antenna (1). The GSM now works, but not the GPS. Probably, I did something wrong. Does anybody knows which one of these is GPS antenna? Thanks!
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I figured out, (1) is GSM antenna and (2) is GPS. Everything works now, please close the thread.
there appears to be a third antenna at the bottom of the phone. what one is that? i would have put money on that being the gps.
Indeed. Maybe CDMA? One thing I know for sure, my GPS doesn't work if I cut yellow wire (2) or change its length.

sTUPID QUESTION.....
IS the black vinyl like sticker on the back of the phone part of the actual antenna?
I ripped mine off, and now GPS no longer works.
Hi, you mind to make it briefly probable with more details picture as i open it to solve the no sim card problem and now the gps not work.
i might have remove some weld wire or what...
mind to show me details picture how the gps wire goes around?
htc sucks....1 year and all gone

Disassemble and reassemble of galaxy nexus :)

I have a few pictures of my galaxy nexus broken down if anyone would like to ask me questions on how and where things go they can. I actually find this phone to be very easy to get apart and if careful can be reassembled in 15 minutes. I was actually replacing my speaker with some old parts I bought off a guy. No more crackling! Anyways in the process grabbed some pics
U can see the first three are the screen bottom speaker, main board, vibe, etc. The last pic she's all back together

Somehow I imagined a picture of me tearing down a smartphone where I was photoshopped out and replaced with a picture of a dog in a labcoat saying: "I have no idea what I'm doing"
Yep this phone is one of the easiest ive worked with. had to open mine to replace the earpiece. the only thing to take care of is the volume ribbon and vibrator wires, they can snap off really easily.

Yes sir....I just stuck a razor blade between them and the housing and they come right off connected to a gel like glue. This was good because sticking them back in place they actually stayed. U also have to remove the vibrator motor and the long black wire running down alongside the battery compartment (it has connectors on each end) then of course your two ribbon connectors for main board then one ribbon connector for bottom speaker. Didn't touch cams no need to.....very very easy job in fact it was to easy.

Yes for sure...but if u do not feel safe doing it then take it in. I know to get to the usb the whole speaker and housing comes off of the top of that. Which is one screw then a ribbon fairly easy....then u just work something thin in between that and housing like a guitar pic or Mac card. I would go with guitar pic tho so u don't mess the corners of your card up. I know that once the speaker portion is off u see in my first pic the USB I think has its on board. I truthfully did not take that portion of it out thought it was kind of pointless. If u need help I will assist u if u decide to do it yourself

The battery cover? Hmmmm. I am pretty sure the GPS chip is on the opposite side of motherboard. Looking at ifixit photos it says right by rear camera on the opposite side of motherboard.
Edit...also if u look at first pic in my pictures look on right side of battery compartment . See the black wire with the connectors on each end? I wonder if the connector closest to bottom came loose or has something to do with it

Not sure I have GSM model. And dude good luck with that unless u know how to solder chips on to motherboards that is nearly impossible and I think swapping a lte chip for another lte chip won't solve your problem

Thanks, appreciate your time.
I checked out ifixit, thinking that in the process of removing the cover I could of hit the GPS chip or something, but since you pointed out that its on the opposite side of the motherboard that's not a possibility. Since I have not removed the mother board.
I have not opened it again, afraid of ruining something else.
But I guess I will have to in order to check the wire you speak about.

I sent my phone in for repair to Samsung via Expansys for a bad external speaker. Back when it went bad, phone was too new to have all parts available as spares on the net plus the phone was still under warranty so I send it back to Samsung via Expansys-usa. But what I think happened is that Expansys didn't send it to Samsung and repaired it inhouse. I can say that because all screws inside the phone had chewed up heads and the repair didn't look good however the external speaker was working. First thing I found out that external volume rocker was not working anymore. So I send it back again to Expansys and I just received it back today with a note saying that the volume rocker ribbon pins have come away from the main board and taken the pin with them.
Bottom line is that they didn't repair the phone. Any ideas on how I can get this fixed? Do I have to change the ribbon? if I want to do it myself or this sort of damage requires a new board?
Any ideas comments are appreciated.
Edit: Link to photo showing the pins that are separated from the board

Hi Sarni,
I accidentally snapped the ribbon (refer to attached pic, circled in red), and now my speaker is not working anymore. I guess that ribbon was for connecting the speaker and headphone jack? . What do you think i should do now, replace the whole piece?
I also intend to replace my damaged charge port, but not sure how to proceed for that.
Thanks,
Dennis

[Q] No Wifi After LCD Replacement

Hi guys,
I recently dropped my phone on concrete, resulting in a nasty crack across the screen. Last night I received the new LCD/Digitizer and went ahead and replaced the screen (I opted to replace the LCD as well due to the copious amounts of glue used between the two parts). After many curse words were shared, I put it back together again and everything works perfectly... except Wifi.
I was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue, and where I should start looking to fix this? I took the cover off again to check both white (wifi?) cable and black (bluetooth?) cables, and both were connected as they should be.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Tim

Yeah, thanks for the reply. I went through it on Saturday very carefully looking for any wire or contact that was loose and unfortunately everything was correctly attached. I did notice that the bluetooth and wifi wire plugs on the lower board were *very* close to each other, so they may well have touched and caused a short. After checking everything over and reassembling the phone, wifi still didn't work I also checked bluetooth and that won't work either, so perhaps my suspicions about the wires contacting is correct.
Note to anyone else doing a repair on this phone: Be very careful that the wifi and bluetooth plugs don't touch each other. It's very easy for them to rotate around in their socket and contact each other. I'm not sure if this caused them to fail in my phone, but it could certainly be the reason why both no longer work.
Cheers

Yep, I separated the wires and still no luck :/
I also removed the wires just to see if it would at least turn allow me to turn on the wifi, but all it says is "error" in the wifi settings and I can't turn wifi on no matter what I try.
I have exact same problem: after LCD replacement wifi fails with ERROR. Also sometimes no reaction to POWER button - no power off menu neither LCD is off/on. Don`t expect any wires or so i could accidentally damage.
Solved
After dissasembling phone again i found that flex cable has not good connection to mainboard. I pressed connectors, felt some "click", reassembled phone and after booting everything is ok:
wifi, bt, volume buttons, leds while charging operating well. Attaching picture. The connectors are located right under sim card and micro sd card slots, you have to remove full mainboard and flex cable to fix that. Cheers!

That's really interesting. Thanks for the info. It's odd that the phone even functions if the flex cable might be loose. I may have a look and see if this is the problem too when I get a chance.
Yes, phone operate, but really weird behavior - some functions worked, some not, sometimes no reaction to power on button and so on. Hope this helps someone.

Hmm. I wonder if my issue is the same. I have experienced absolutely no odd behaviour other than wifi + bluetooth not working. Everything else works as it used to. GPS actually seems to work better haha. There are two flex cables so perhaps one of them does those two things.

If you haven`t found any other damage: wires, pcb, then most probably your issue is related to exact flex cable. Yes, here are two contacts where flex cable connects to m/b, its clearly seen on photos i attached. My problem was both flex cables become loose...
You're a real man. I would have paid someone to fix my screen.
DIY makes you a real man? lol

Cheers!

My WiFi (and Volume Keys) stopped working after I dropped my phone.
After reading your solution I removed the SIM/SD-Cover and just by pressing from outside, the cable snapped in.
No disassembling, not even a reboot! My DHD works like on it's first day!
Thanks!

[Q] Digitizer problems

Hey guys, I'm back while I don't have my iPhone. Now I'm trying to get this damn phone to work again. R800x if you didn't remember. Now, every time I get a new digitizer, It doesn't work. I take the old one off and put the new one in, making sure all contacts in the ribbon are connected to the flex cable connecting to the logic board. Any suggestions to get this damn screen to work again?
Or if anyone has a working, but broken digitizer they replaced, I'll take it

It may be the flex cable, the little cable which connects to the digitizer is part of the flex cable i believe.

Except the front camera works (green and fuzzy with no quality what so ever, but works). That's why I don't think it's the flex.
Just replaced it with an extra laying around. Didn't fix it...

Ah sorry, I meant the front facing camera cable, the green and fuzzy with no quality seems to affirm this. Here's a picture of it from ebay - http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-Play-R800-Ear-Speaker-Proximity-Sensor-Flex-Cable-Ribbon-/00/s/NzUwWDEwMDA=/$(KGrHqF,!lEE-j2UWj4YBP34C0rn4w~~60_12.GIF

Update: bought a new flex cable. Didn't fix it. Well, looks like it is the digitizer. Any other ideas?
