I have been using the GNEX for about 6 months and I never had any problems.
Since I updated to JB, the battery drain has been quite big. There is also some big lag sometimes, but I suspect that the lag can be tied to the market too.
I see that the market accounts for the battery drain now.
It should be noted that the market was not opened, no apps were updated and there were no notifications. So it must be running in the background.
I did not use the phone much today, read the news in the morning and made 1 phone call. So the drain is quite big for this using.
Has anybody had this problem and knows the solution?
P.S.
I haven't open the maps either.
You can force stop maps, maps can be started by any application that i has location services, Google search, twitter etc. Open play store under settings, uncheck all options.
I just had the same issue with Google Play Store. Plugged the N7 in to charge to get it to power up and the battery usage is showing the Play Store as "Keep awake" for 6h 46m, which essentially drained my battery overnight. I can't see any obvious reason it did this

I have exactly the same issue with my new LG Nexus 4 running JB 4.2 !!!
I removed it from charge this morning and after 5 hours in standby mode the battery was on 20%
ur best bet is to "don't keep activities" in the developer options
re: the maps draining, u'd have to turn off location services but it's needed for google now
^That kinda defeats the whole purpose of owning an Android device. I would at least start by uninstalling updates and opening the Play Store back up. Maybe it got stuck doing something it shouldn't have been. The Maps issue. Mine is always running. Never shows up in my battery stats. There are so many triggers that can cause it to run, so I've given up(There's always AutoStarts, though you need root for it) even trying since it isn't affecting my overall battery life. I leave GPS on, but turn off Google Location Services unless I need it.
Play Store and Play Music are really draining the battery in my Nexus 4...

I found out that it happens only after it automatically updates my apps.
I disabled the auto update apps from play store and seems to be fine now....
[UPDATE - 16-12-2012]
Today I checked manually for updates, Installed 26 of them and the battery drained again after couple of hours.
For some reason, it does not stop the application and it is constantly using the CPU thus draining the battery. My phone is very hot (temperature) at the moment and I have not used it for almost 2 hours and it was not on charge !!!
This is ridiculous.....
I have Samsung Galaxy S4 (TMO) running on rooted stock ROM 4.2.2.
Off late, I have been observing that the battery is draining much faster than it should be.
Earlier it typically used to consume ~12% of the battery during night time (when the phone is not used at all).
However, off late my battery is draining rapidly and is not standing for at least 8 hrs.
I checked the battery usage and got to see
Google Services (v4.3.11) is ranked higher at ~52% followed by
Screen
Android System
Android OS
etc.
I used Wakelock Detector to see what items are causing this drain.
I figured out that under Google Services the top ranking battery eaters are
NlpWakelock
NlpCollectorWakelock
So I tried couple of different things by disabling Google Sync. Even then, there is no change.
The following is what I did which fixed the battery drain:
1. I disabled/unchecked the Settings -> Location Services -> Location Sources -> Use wireless sources
After this, I checked the usage in the Wakelock Detector.
NlpWakelock : This one is now stopped and I don't see any activity with this wakelock
NlpCollectorWakelock : This continues to have wakelocks and is still ranking higher.
2. Now I set the Settings -> Location Services -> My places -> Home -> Selected Method -> None.
Earlier I had this option set to be identifying my home using my WiFi network. This is causing continuous In/Out data transfer (most probably polling to the network to check if the connection is alive) in the status bar observed by the WiFi icon. Once I set this to None, I don't see continuous In/Out data transfer in the status bar.
Apart from the above, I did power off the phone and removed the battery when it showed <5%. Left it like that for couple of hours. Then re-assembled and then it showed me 10% and recharged it after that. I did this on purpose to calibrate the battery (but not necessary) due to continuous discharge/recharge cycles happened for the last couple of days.
After recharging it to 100%, I left the phone without using it for 4 hrs to observe the wakelocks. Voila, the Google Services is at the bottom of the list. The above two wakelocks are no more seen under the Google Services. By the way, I did have the Google Sync on during this observation. I observed 1-2% battery drain for each one hr.
After this, the battery drain is not happening. For the past 9 1/2 hrs, accessing - Facebook, google search, The Weather Channel - couple of times resulted in 17% battery drain so far.
UPDATE: It's been almost 22 1/2 hours by now... the battery is now at 52% after a normal usage of accessing - Facebook, google search, The Weather Channel, CNN, TOI, Google+, phone calls and having Google sync on.
Hope this helps anybody else having a similar problem.
Greenify.
Yeah it's been well documented that Google Service locations(mainly the "Wi-Fi and cellular network" option) will drained the battery quick.
???
Thanks for this info. My phone started dying in the middle of the day when it didn't used to. I'm not sure if I updated something and it caused these settings to change but I will see if this helps.
This didn't help me. I have massive battery drain. I made a few wipes, changed different stock roms. Now I'm on Google edition ROM and It's the same. Nlpwakelock is a nightmare for me. Could it be a third party app problem?
Did you have Google now activated? In that case, check if you have location services activated for it. NlpWakelock is mainly associated with the location access. Using wakelock detector, you would be able to find which application is using the NlpWakelock. That would give you a clue about what other app(s) using this wakelock.

I'm using BetterBatteryStats. Disabling Google Now/Location Reporting/Location History doesn't make any difference.

Which app is showing to be using the NlpWakeLock?

One more thing, after doing any changes, in order to get fresh wake lock information, you need to restart the phone. That way, you would know if the NlpWakeLock is being used from the fresh restart. However, if you see the Battery stats from the phone Settings, it would still show the information from the last recharge.

Google Play Services. I tried to restart the phone. More info about what I tried is here
Edit: I turned off Location Reporting and History, and it's much better. Google Now is making wakelocks now, but only few. Anyway Google ****ed up their own services.
Hi,
I updated to lollipop a few days back.
Since the update the phone battery dies in few hours even in idle mode
I hav tried keeping gps off wifi off, location off
I also disabled google play store, maps, play services etc.
Better battery stats and gsam monitor show that the massive drain is due to "android system", which causes massive drain.
it keeps cpu awake for long.
I have images now showing the same.
pLEASE help
OK, I have these awful wakelocks, my phone is awake for 50% of time due to Google App; anyone else?
In particualr it's the AudioIn feature...
Google is running in background and its Max battery drain app.. in the screenshot, i selected put app sleep when not in use, but still its active for 13+ hours in background.. how to fix it..
For me google play services keep running in the background.
Could you please share a pic of your entire battery drainage from the apps?
I disabled it (google app, not play services) since day one, along with other annoying pests via ccswe and package disabler pro, both complement each other perfectly, of course there is the ADB commands method, but I preffer the apps I mentioned, as they provide very useful widgets to enable/disable problematic apps as google, playstore, updates, chrome, etc, you can even disable services within the apps, to avoid background data access or runnig on boot

Firstly,
Look at my Google usage, screenshot
9 hrs background and only 0.1 % usage..!
So even if your Google is enabled in background
it should only take a minimum % eg 1 % ..?
So i would say that some settings in your
Google..?
that is enabled, eg syncing..... etc
I don't know all the tasks connected to Google.
I would rather cross check with battery
apps eg Betterbatterystats, Gsam battery monitor,
Wakelock detector lite etc
to pinpoint reason, than try and restrict Google.
Bottom line,
If you don't know what to do and you are desperate,
i would then factory reset device.
Should solve the problem..... hopefully.!
Good luck.

Thanks for your suggestions.
I don't want to do factory reset. I will try with other options first.

Same happened to me. What I did was to delete Data from Play services app, then I deleted cache from phone an voila. I have all sync and functional.
Ps. I charge my phone to 90% and I can get 5-6 SOT at 30% left everyday.
The issue op mentioned is not about google play services, it is about the google app instead I think
The problem is I don't think any batter stat apps can get low enough level stats to indicate what is using the Google app in the background to determine what is causing the drain. Usually, the culprit is an app frequently using location service (your GPS) to check your location which I believe the Android location service coordinates for apps other than the native Android/Google apps are obtained through the Google app in the background. That latter point is purely a guess because as we all know the Google app is a "multipurpose" app and you can't see detailed enough battery usage to determine what function of the app is being used that causes battery drain.
On my S10 5G, for the first 2 weeks I've used it, Google never was in the top 5, taking like 1-2% over the course of a day. Then seemingly all the sudden, it was #1, consuming like close to 1% an hour in the background. So I think, what did I change recently? I enabled Google Discover, but set the option to mae it update less fequently (6 hours) to reduce battery (the option actually says this will reduce battery usage). It didn't make a difference. So I disabled Google Discover and installed Google News instead. My Google app battery usage is lower now. About 0.9% per hour (all background usage of course). I think for most people that's good, but not when you were used to it being more like 0.1-0.2% an hour before.
I think the bottom line is if you want to use more features on your phone you have to live with a bump in battery usage. The 4500 mAh battery on my S10 5G lasts me abotu 1.5 days. LOL. But I don't play games or check Facebook/Instragram all day. Just a few texts, weather alerts, maybe an hour or two of browsing. Mabe an hour total of talk time. So relative to other people I should be less concerned if my phone is lasting well over a day on a charge, actually close to 2 days many times. I know a lot of other more "frequent users" (probably a lot of people younger than myself) that are on social media a lot and or listening to music/watching videos would kill to have their phones last 20-48 hours without having to charge.
Still, I keep an eye on things and it bugs me Google has jumped up. A great app to use is Accubattery and monitor the "SCREEN OFF" discharge rate. You're not actively using apps when the sceen is off so this gives you a good idea of your total background battery usage. You can make changes to settings, charge your for for a while, and let several hours pass, then check the screen off discharge rate and compare it to other discharge periods before you made the settings to determine if the changes you made had much of an effect.
Of course background usage isn't going to be 100% consistent, so the longer you measure the better, as if you look at it over like a 1 hour period, it could be certain apps were just more or less active during that particular hour. But if you compare like half day or more (6+ hour) periods to previous periods, you can get a good gauge if apps setting changes or newly installed apps are eating more battery in the background.
I disable Google feedfack, all their data collecting junk and their data backup too. Google is a pig.
Some blocked Google apks like Playstore are enabled as needed.
Even when Framework and Google Transport are blocked it's sometimes periodically necessary to clear their data to get them from using excessive cpu cycles.
Battery Tracker reports Google Framework running when AOD is on but it's likely misreading as long as battery draw remains at around 1%@hour while phone is screen off.
I'm running on Pie... who knows what Q will do.
Most likely make a bigger mess.
