Audio skipping. - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I'm using headphones and listening to audio on Asus' own music app, Doggcatcher and Google Music audio skips like crazy, especially when navigating the UI and switching between apps. If I put the phone into standby it will skip once or twice but it will stop after that. It is fine when using Youtube and Netflix but all audio only apps skip. I have tried moving music to a sd card but with the same result. I'm also running the latest update. Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah I had this issue as well, but it just went away with mine.

Same problem here...Didnt have this problem on previous firmware...I am on pre-rooted 2.15.40....And i experience it sometimes even when the device is locked... Maybe some software bug or sumthin...Maybe Asus is working on it and will release the fix for the bug in the next update

Experienced something similar. Skipping 0,5 seconds when Learning with Anki... when I reconnect the headset, everything works fine again until the problem occurs again

Music Stops playing randomly

Does anyone have this problem? I'm on the latest version of AOKP with Franco Kernal...Everytime I listen to music, it will randomly stop and I would have to press play again. This happens at random times, (seconds, minutes, hours). I'm using Google Music (Play Music). I have tried PowerAMP and other players, but they seem too all do it.
It's kind of bugging me

It could be a bug with Franco's sound hacks he implements in his kernels. Perhaps try using a different kernel?

hmmm...can anyone else confirm this that's also using Franco's Kernal....
I get this on stock. I thought it was related to another piece of software (pocketcasts) that I installed about the same time the problems started. Seem that the first song is played, then it pauses or stops.
Could be a buggy headphone connector (in the phone), where it send a faulty signal telling the system that you have unplugged the headphones. Does it only happen while using headphones?
My connector does that as well, but opposite. When not using headpones it sometimes signals that something has been plugged in, and all audio is routed to the non-existing headphones.
this bug definitively occurs on francoKernel!
Try flashing another kernel (Popcorn for example) and the bug is gone.
Seems to have something to do with the sound limit. If it's too loud it stops automatically. Try reducing the volume to 60% with the hard buttons and you'll see that it stops acting like that.
It's not a Franco's kernel only problem. I have the same issue on Stock 4.0.2 (GSM, unlocked, unrooted).
It is not the headphone connector that is buggy either since i'm experiencing this with bluetooth headset as well (A2DP headset).
The music app is not crashing either since it doesn't require a full "load" when i select the app. Press play again and all is good until next time.
It happens to me on stock as well. With both the music and listen apps. Seems to happen if I'm playing music for a half hour or so without using the phone.

I have noticed this. When i turn down the volume it stops doing it. But when i turn it up to max it will start doing it again

I experience this on google listen on stock 4.0.1. I thought it was a bug with the app losing audio focus. But then they updated and claimed an audio focus fix, yet it still happens. I can force this bug to happen by multitasking moderately. So i truly think this bug is related to the over aggressive memory management on this phone.
Yea I'm using Axi0m and I notice this. I think its an issue with the headphone jack. When I installed power amp, one of the features is to detect connection to the headphones... then the phone started to randomly start and stop playing music completely random.
I updated and it seems to be fixed. Still stops occasionally but at least I can listen for an extended period.

I'm running Lean Kernel and I get this all the time when I have the volume set to MAX on the device itself, I find if I turn it down just a bump then the problem goes away. This may be some type of fail safe for the phone itself. ??? But just turn your vol down one click and you're good to go.
I always had issues playing music with franco.kernel, it did me just like you are talking about. That **** used to drive me crazy! Anyways, no issues with CM10 M2. Also using the built in CM kernel.
yup, had this thing on both stock and codename android. google music app
Just gotta wake up this thread.
I'm having this issue on CM10.2... I had this same thing on stock JB some time ago when I connected to my BT headset..
Is there any fix for this?
Btw.
I don't use any custom kernels and this is not caused by any kernel and I don't think this to be caused by BLE.

I had the same issue and realized I had the volume up too loud with the mods I had installed. Keep the volume below 80% and the problem will disappear.
Possible solution
I used to have this issue as well, where after a certain period of not actually using the phone, the music playback would just pause itself.
I discovered that I had Play music "Greenified" which is basically a hibernating task manager. That was killing the background process of any music players I had open.
Wether or not you have the Greenify app, check for any automatic task killers and get rid of them.. Maybe that will help one of you guys, it sure helped me.
Only had this happen using headphone volume boost... don't use it

Music randomly playing out through speakers

Okay, so today I was listening to music, on my totally stock GS III. Suddenly the music switches through to the speaker, instead of going to my headphones. The first time this happen, it was when a song ended and a new song came on Google Music. The second time was when my friend texted me. My phone was on vibrate only. Obviously, this can be quite embarrassing especially when you are in a quiet zone. I checked to make sure the notification bar still had the headphone logo. I'm using regular no mic headphones. This happened earlier, is there anyway I can still logcat? Like doesn't it save all that until reboot? I don't even remember if I rebooted yet...probably..
Anyways, yeah, I tried searching, but I came up with threads on bluetooth and speakers just not working or crackling. So I think I might be the only one..?
Thanks for the help.
Only thing I can think of is maybe your headphone port is losing connectivity with your 3.5mm jack and it thinks no headphones are present?

1. background advertisements. Use adaware
2. poor installation/settings check google music and the app settings. worst comes to worst go to manage apps clear data, uninstall and re-install in market
It happened to me once or twice with google music player. Actually, since JB, google music is full of bug on my side, it randomly hangs on song switching, this bug, low volume bug until I pause and press play. Tried clearing cache/data, uninstalling couple of times, and no go.
I've given up on it and am now using rocket player with cloud music importer. I was never streaming anyway but I liked the google music interface... oh well
I'm on a stock based jellybean ROM rooted

Yes but the usual behavior is that when headphones are pulled out, it pauses the music.

I'm not sure what the advertisements have to do with the audio problem, but I do use ad blocker. I have tried flashing back to stick through kies and odin.

I have the same issue but I use rocket music player. But the worst issue I have is when I'm listening to music and someone calls me, after the call it puts full speaker volume out my headphones and blows my ears out. I would definitely be interested in a solution otherwise I will be going back to ICS myself; especially since I can't run Adobe Flash on web pages anymore.

I'll add to this I've had the same issues with my rooted stock JB from my google play player so I just switched players to power amp full version player and I could not be any happier!
Has happened to me twice in class. Was listening to a song in google music, song ended and the next one came on, except this time coming out of the speaker. Very embarrassing!

Recently read in a different forum that changing LPAplayer from true to false I think in the build.prop is a solution.... Can't remember where I read it, couldn't find it in history, probably was on my other machine...
Been looking into this more. Seems like more people are having this problem. Some suggest downgrading google music, some say the 11/12 update is bad, some say LPAplayer or something needs to be disabled, using default samsung player, which reminds me today I installed Pandora which happened to do the same thing so it must be touchwiz and it only happens on JB. Not trying to change my phone to CM10, thats a no for me. Has anyone found a real solution?

Music Problem

I have installed the latest build of PAC rom, and even before this I installed the new Liquid Smooth rom, all this on the same day. I wiped factory data, dalvik cache and everything else. When I listen to music while the headphones are in, and click into the app drawer / any other app, the song I'm listening too gets cut off, and it comes back on where it left off. It is extremely annoying, when the phone itself is in sleep and I'm listening to music it works fine, when I try to open up another app while my headphones are in, I consistently hear the crackling noise. I can't even listen to music properly, how can I fix this? I've installed other music players and its the same result, crackling while using the phone, no music crackling when phone is sleeping, could it be a hardware issue? I'm thinking it isn't because I updated to the official release of the Liquid Smooth rom today, which was EXTREMELY buddy, like legit couldn't handle the number of reboots that happened in 1 hour and the horrid battery, and it only started happening today, I am now on PAC rom and it is still happening, I tried rewiping and reflashing but it doesn't work. Any help?
This seems to be an issue for some on the latest build. If you've installed correctly and still face the same issue you can try reverting back to this RC2 build with the new headphone fix. It seems to be the most stable even with the music issue.

believe it or not, downloading power amp music player just fixed my issue, so if anyone is having this problem, just download poweramp, even though the UI kinda sucks, it gets rid of the crackling noise

Songs cut off before the end on stock music player

Ever since I updated my device to KitKat I noticed that the stock music player skips the end of the song and starts a new one without me pressing next. I have factory reset, and wiped the cache partition as suggested by a Samsung tech support (even though I think that they don't know what they are doing, but I give them credit for trying ?). I have tried different players and the songs do play all the way on those but not the stock player. I would prefer to fix the stock player because I'm used to it and really don't like the other players, but if i don't have any options then I guess I'm out of luck. Btw, I'm running stock 4.4.2 TW not rooted. Any help you be appreciated, thanks.

I am having the exact same problem. It's only for a specific few of songs and I can predict it when I hear a song that I know does it. This has been happening to me since before the kitkat update. Anyone one else having this problem or know a fix?
I have had the same issue. It's the music file. The file wasn't 1. Downloaded properly 2. The file wasn't uploaded fully to start with.

Well I forgot to add this in my post. If I seek through the song and get close to where it skips it does not skip the ending.
I also tried using a different music player, the play music app, and it too skipped as well.
Are you dowbloading from an app or buying the song?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm downloading them off my computer and putting them on through the "Easy Phone Sync" application. It allows you to copy songs from your iTunes to your phone. I've tested to see if its just the actual file and the song does not skip on iTunes.
Try to copy them straight from your PC to your phone

Temporary solution
I m using Nexus 5, Android 5.0.1 and I discovered something yesterday relating to this issue.
Play Music skips last few seconds of song and that always annoys me. But I found a temporary way to correct it.
While you are playing a song on Play Music, click Multi-Screen Soft button (next to Home soft button) and remove Play Music from stack of apps. In my phone, even though the app is removed from stack of apps, it still appears on notification ( top right corner of the screen) Now, pull down the home screen to go to notification and play the music from there. This solves the skipping of music.
I havent tested in other phones, but it works well on mine.
I have this problem too on my one touch evolve 2 running 4.4.2
Stock music player skipping...
My problem is a bit different from the ones above. I'm on a Galaxy 5 Kit Kat. The stock music player will skip the FIRST few seconds of tracks. Not all, but about 50% of them. Does not do it on the Google Player. Synced from WMP. Always worked with my Galaxy 3.

Note 7 * MEDIA KEEPS PAUSING* Major ISSUE

Good morning ladies & gentlemen,
I'm having an issue where when I listen to Spotify, PocketCast, or any other media player and my audio just suddenly pauses. It will resume play once I hit play the play button. I checked to see if it was bluetooth and that's not the issue it's really frustrating especially when I'm working in my studio and my music just cuts out.
Does it happen when your screen goes off? or random?
Just random times.
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk
Does media on the internal or sdcard storage do this? If not then it's your network connection and may not even be caused by the Note 7 at all. Try local media and see if it still happens.

I play my MP3's from my phone and stream without issue. Check your network.
I was noticing this with the screen off using Pandora on wifi. It would mostly do this between songs then if I woke screen it would start again. Very annoying. Never had this issue on any other Samsung device. It's either a deep sleep issue with Pandora, wifi or ram management.

If you are streaming them, make sure Power Saver is not on (or atleast the background network option).
If not, try clearing Cache from recovery (stock or twrp), try again. If it continues, clear cache/data from Settings>Applications>Music

I noticed that on my previous S7 Edge. It ended up being Greenify. It was putting my phone into doze too aggressively, and pausing the music playback.
